Background: To explore the perceptions and experience of oral health management among rural older people in China. Methods: Qualitative methodologies were used in this study. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted. Thirteen older adults in rural areas were purposively sampled at two metropolitan hospitals in Hunan, China. The data were transcribed and thematically analyzed, and MAXQDA software was used to assist with coding. Results: Three overarching major themes and ten sub‑themes capturing the perceptions and experience of oral health management among rural older people were identified. Three themes emerged from the thematic analysis: oral health cognitive bias, poor management behaviors, and limited oral health services. Oral health management as a whole is negative, oral health behaviors are poor, oral health service utilization is limited. Conclusions: Based on these findings, there is great scope here for improving the current status of oral health for rural older people around awareness, behavior, and access. Oral health education, improved oral health services and primary oral health promotion are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Oral health is important for general health; nurses are expected to possess good oral health awareness and work together for public oral health promotion. The purpose of this study is to investigate oral health literacy (OHL)and oral health behaviors of nurses, and explore the association between oral health literacy with demographic variables and oral health behaviors. Methods: A cross-sectional study in a tertiary hospital was conducted using a short-form Health Literacy in Dentistry-14 (HeLD-14) and a 16-items oral health behaviors questionnaire. Information about the subjects' demographic details including age, gender, place of residence, marital status, marital status, education level, monthly household income, working experience, etc. were collected. Independent sample t- test, One- way ANOVA, and multivariable regression were used to identify the association of oral health literacy with demographic variables and oral health behaviors. Results: A total number of 317 nursing nurses participated in the survey, with a mean OHL score of 36.72, SD10.531, 21.8% were categorized as good, 34.1% medium and 44.2% poor oral health literacy; monthly household income, self-rated oral health, brushing time, use of fluoride toothpaste, and regular oral examination were signficantly associated with OHL scores. Conclusion: The overall oral health literacy of the nurse population is at a moderate to low level. These findings may help to map and design an oral health education intervention to improve oral health literacy amongst nurses, especially nurses with low monthly household income and poor self-assessed oral health status. Background and Purpose: Oral health plays an important role in overall health. But little is known about the problems with oral health behaviors and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among dental patients in China. This study aimed to investigate oral health behaviors and OHRQoL, as well as to examine the effects of oral health behaviors and associated factors on OHRQoL among dental patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2022 to July 2022 in the Department of Stomatology of the First Mobile General Hospital of Armed Police, Hebei, China. The five-item short form of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-5) was used to evaluate OHRQoL. Oral health behaviors were assessed by a 16-items oral health behavior questionnaire, and socio-demographic data were collected by a socio-demographic questionnaire. The t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to investigate the associations between the study variables. Results: 186 participants were included in the study. The average age of the participants was 24.62 years (SD = 10.67). The mean OHIP-5 score was 4.31 (SD =3.35). Oral health-related quality of life differed significantly by smoking history, history of alcohol consumption, work status, economic pressure, self-rated oral health status, daily brushing frequency, dental caries condition, and whether they take the initiative to learn about oral health. Multivariate analysis found that the self-rated oral health status and work status were significantly associated with the OHIP scores. The retired people and those with poor self-rated oral health displayed poor OHRQoL. Conclusion: In general, dental patients' oral health needs to be improved, the majority of patients reported practicing poor oral health behaviors, among which the retired population and hose with poor self-rated oral health showed poor OHRQoL. Cyclocarya paliurus (Batalin) Iljinsk is a medicinal plant belonging to the Juglandaceae family, and its leaves are used for a traditional sweet herbal tea with bioactivity against obesity and hyperglycaemia in China. It contains various bioactive specialised metabolites, such as flavonoids, triterpenes and their glucosides, while no glycosyltransferases (GTs) have been reported in C. paliurus to date. Herein, we identified and cloned the first glucosyltransferase C. paliurus GT1. The expression profiles of C. paliurus GT1 showed very high expression in young leaves, callus and branches, but relatively low expression in old leaves and bark and no expression in root. The recombinant C. paliurus GT1 protein was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli and exhibited catalytic activity towards multiple flavonoids favouring substrate- and regio-specific biosynthesis. Further enzyme assays indicated a preference for certain hydroxyl group glucosylation by C. paliurus GT1. C. paliurus GT1 actively catalysed the glucosylation of flavones and flavonols, but it was less active towards isoflavones, flavanones or triterpenes. C. paliurus GT1 was also able to catalyse the attachment of sugars to the thiol (S -) or amine (N -) sites on aromatic compounds but not on aliphatic compounds. Molecular docking and site-directed mutagenesis analyses indicated that A43F, V84P, and M201Y dramatically altered the regio-selectivity and activity, and the W283M mutation and deletion of the V309-D320 region enhanced the activity and the formation of disaccharides. Herein, we present the identification and characterization of the first multi-functional glucosyltransferase in C. paliurus and provide a basis for understanding the biosynthesis of flavonoid glucosides. C. paliurus GT1 could be utilized as a synthetic biology tool for the synthesis of O -, N -, or S -glucosylated natural/unnatural products.
