This retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the prevalence, morbidity, mortality and the maternal/neonatal care of preterm neonates and the perinatal risk factors for mortality. We included data on 13,701 preterm neonates born in 15 hospitals for the period 2013–2014 in China. Results showed a prevalence of preterm neonates of 9.9%. Most infants at 24–27 weeks who survived more than 12 hours were mechanically ventilated (56.1%). Few infants born before 28 weeks received CPAP without first receiving mechanical ventilation (8.1%). Few preterm neonates received antenatal steroid(35.8% at 24–27 weeks, 57.9% at 28–31 weeks, 57.0% at 32–33 weeks and 32.7% at 34–36 weeks). Overall mortality was 1.9%. Most of the deaths at 24–27 weeks of gestation occurred within 12 hours after birth, accounting for 68.1%(32/47), and within 12–72 hours after birth at 28–36 weeks of gestation, accounting for 47.4%(99/209). Rates of survival to discharge increased from 68.2% at 24–27 weeks, 93.3% at 28–31 weeks, 99.2% at 32–33 weeks to 99.4% at 34–36 weeks. The smaller of the GA, there was a greater risk of morbidities due to prematurity. Preterm birth weight (OR = 0.407, 95% CI 0.346–0.478), antenatal steroid (OR = 0.680, 95% CI 0.493–0.938), and neonatal asphyxia (OR = 3.215, 95% CI 2.180–4.741) proved to significantly influence the odds of preterm neonatal death. Overall, our results support that most of the preterm neonates at 28–36 weeks of gestation survived without major morbidity. Rate of survival of GAs less than 28 weeks was still low. To support high-quality carbon peaking, a scenario analysis of carbon peaking pathways according to an industrial chain perspective considering both material and part production needs exploring. As a critical segment in the aluminum industrial chain, aluminum casting industry was focused on in this paper. A bottom-up scenario analysis approach was proposed for the carbon emission simulation of China's aluminum casting industry, including: (1) a carbon emission assessment model based on material flow analysis and life-cycle assessment, (2) key influence factor selection and variation scenario prediction, (3) static and dynamic scenario analysis, and (4) driving factor decomposition analysis. Key findings are as follows: (1) China's aluminum casting industry accounted for about 1.1% of the national carbon emissions in 2020; (2) the production stage accounted for around 15% of the total carbon emissions of China's aluminum casting industry in 2020; (3) carbon peaking probabilities before 2030 for the static and dynamic scenario analysis are around 60% and 35%, respectively; and (4) the carbon peaking result differences in whether considering the production stage are about 20% for the static simulation and average 40% for the dynamic simulation. The emplacement and differentiation mechanisms are significant parts of understanding the evolution of a magmatic system. There is debate regarding the emplacement mechanism of long-distance lateral transport of magma. Meanwhile, the differentiation mechanism mainly target rock assemblage in mantle plume-related or rift-related settings. As yet, few studies had been followed in the arc setting. In this contribution, the mafic-ultramafic sills formed by long-distance lateral transport of magma in the Fanjingshan area of South China have been selected to decode the magmatic emplacement and differentiation mechanisms in an arc system. Voluminous basaltic lava and mafic-ultramafic sills are emplaced, concordant to bedding, within the lower part of the Middle Tonian Fanjingshan Group and laterally extend for tens of kilometers. Some mafic-ultramafic sills display symmetrical lithology and geochemical distribution in vertical sections. We provide a detailed stratigraphic and geochemical analysis of the mafic-ultramafic sills of the Fanjingshan Group. The mafic sills within the underlying strata (the Taojinhe Formation) of the lower part of the Fanjingshan Group were intruded at 832 Ma, which is >8 Ma younger than the basaltic eruptions in the overlying strata (the Huixiangping Formation). Moreover, these mafic sills within the Taojinhe Formation have a positive ɛ Nd (t) value (+0.9–+1.6), the lowest Platinum Group Elements (PGE) content, and the highest Rare Earth Elements (REE) content. Compared with other mafic sills and basalts within different formations (the Huixiangping, Xiaojiahe, and Yujiagou formations), mafic sills within the Taojinhe Formation display a separate field on the principal component analysis diagram, suggesting two stages of mafic magma emplacement within a short interval for the Fanjingshan Middle Tonian volcanic plumbing system. The magma channels of the first-stage magma are subsequently used by the second-stage magma as suggested by ɛ Nd (t) values and Nb-Ti anomalies. Although arc magmas differ greatly from mantle plume magmas in volume, temperature, and composition, the calculated dimensionless temperature and dimensionless flux of magma imply that the solidification can contribute to the formation of mafic-ultramafic sills in the Fanjingshan arc systems. At the same time, the difference in rigidity of the upper and lower strata is not the main controlling factor responsible for the formation of the mafic-ultramafic sills as suggested by the statistical analysis of the mafic-ultramafic sills occurrence between different wall-rock lithology associations. Through the comparative study of the sills formed by the long-distance lateral transport of magma, it is proposed that the clastic wall-rock provides the first-order control for the sills formed by the long-distance lateral transport of magma. According to the detailed geochemical study of an M-shaped geochemical profile of mafic-ultramafic sill within the Huixiangping Formation, two steps of in situ crystallization model have been suggested. In the first step, minerals crystallizing from the inflowing magma on the floor and roof of mafic-ultramafic sills will become more primitive inwards. In the second step, the magma evolves both downward and upward by uninterrupted in situ crystallization in a closed system which results in the whole-rock becoming more evolved in composition inward and create an M-shaped geochemical profile. • The Middle Tonian arc volcanic plumbing system in South China was investigated. • The long-distance lateral transport of magma was controlled by clastic wall-rocks. • A two-stage of magmatic emplacement model is proposed. • Two steps of crystallization produce a sill with an M-shaped profile. Daoist wushi (五石, five minerals ) have been uncovered from archaeological sites in different regions in China and this has generated great interest amongst archaeologists, historians and Daoists. This paper presents an interdisciplinary study concerning groups of wushi found in three tombs dated to the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25–220), located in Xianyang city, Shaanxi province. The research analyzes wushi and discusses their identifications by using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction for the first time. The results indicated the presence of azurite, cinnabar, calcite, orpiment, realgar, magnetite, fluorite, crystal quartz, and sulfur, which is much more diverse than the conventional opinions of wushi held by historians and archaeologists in terms of Daoist literature. Meanwhile, it reveals that different minerals sometimes use the same name but without uniformity in their identification, which proves the uncertainty to distinguish wushi only by deciphering the archaeological inscriptions. In addition, the observation of wushi shows that their orientations in the tomb are not completely in accordance with the Five Phases theory derived from Daoism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Psychrotrophic bacteria are the dominant organisms in refrigerated raw milk, which may have potentially adverse effects on the quality and shelf-life of dairy products. In this study, we investigated the concentration and microbial composition of psychrotrophic bacteria in raw milk from Heilongjiang Province (China) in winter and summer using traditional cultivation and single molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing methods. The results showed that the mean counts of psychrotrophic bacteria were 3.73 log CFU/mL based on traditional cultivation method. The isolated psychrotrophic bacteria (45 genera, 120 species) showed high diversity. Pseudomonas , Lactococcus , Acinetobacter , Chryseobacterium and Staphylococcus were the most frequently isolated genera. Moreover, 2 potential novel genera and 3 unknown species were discovered. The SMRT sequencing method could accurately determine the relative abundance of psychrotrophic bacteria in raw milk. Brevundimonas (10.1%), Janthinobacterium (10.0%), Acinetobacter (8.9%), Sphingomonas (8.5%) and Enterococcus (8.1%), as the predominant genera, were present in all raw milk samples. The concentration and community structure of psychrotrophic bacteria varied significantly relying on the season. [Display omitted] • Emplacement ages of the diamondiferous rocks in South China have been constrained. • They were formed intermittently and eccentrically between 492 and 441 Ma. • They may be induced by the contribution of the upwelling of the lowest mantle. • The mantle evolution and the diamond potential have been reviewed. Mantle-derived magmas provide windows to the deep earth, and precise dating of the deep magmatic rocks such as kimberlite and related lithologies is crucial to attaining a better understanding of the mantle evolution and mantle-crust interaction in conjunction with global geodynamic cycle. Here we report a geochronology investigation of the diamondiferous kimberlite and related rocks from the southeastern side of the Yangtze Craton in China with the aim to constrain the deep mantle magma emplacement patterns and mantle evolution through time. Ultrabasic magmatic events occurred intermittently between 492 and 441 Ma, as inferred from apatite U-Pb dating and phlogopite 40Ar-39Ar dating. Combined with the previous data, two pulses of diamondiferous magmatism (ca. 488 Ma and ca. 450 Ma) are identified. The emplacement ages and patterns of these deep-seated diamondiferous magmas are unrelated to the reported Pan-African tectonothermal event (peak at ca. 522 Ma), Kwangsian Orogeny (peak at ca. 435 Ma), and Emeishan plume event (peak at ca. 260 Ma) in the South China Continent. Instead, we infer that the kimberlite and associated rocks in the South China Continent may be related to the upwellings from the edges of the Large Low Shear Velocity Province located at the core-mantle boundary at that time. The lack of magmatic event during 760 to 460 Ma and the existence of the thick lithosphere (>175 km) beneath the South China Continent are suitable for lithospheric diamond formation during the Early Paleozoic. These data suggest that future diamond exploration should be focused on the kimberlites emplaced during the Cambrian–Ordovician transition on the southeastern side of the former Yangzte Craton. Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in females worldwide. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified CC-related susceptibility loci in HLA regions. To investigate the associations between HLA genes and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) or cervical cancer (CC), six loci of HLA class I (HLA-A, -B, and -C) and II (HLA-DRB1, -DPB1, and -DQB1) were selected for genotyping, and the associations between these alleles or their haplotypes with CIN or CC risk or protection from disease were evaluated. In total, 2193 participants, including 909 healthy individuals in the control group, 769 patients with CC, and 515 patients with CIN2+ (CIN II and III), were enrolled in the current study. HLA genes were genotyped using the NGSgo Illumina MiSeq workflow, and the associations between these loci and CIN2+ or CC at the allele and haplotype levels were analyzed. The allele frequencies of HLA-A*33:03, B*58:01, C*03:02, DPB1*05:01, and DRB1*12:01 were lower in both the CC and CIN2+ groups than in the control group, whereas those of B*55:02, C*04:03, and DPB1*03:01 were higher in the CC group than in the control group. In the histologic CC type analysis, the differences in the frequencies of these alleles in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the cervix and stage I CC showed a consistent trend. In the haplotype analysis, the frequency of A*33:03-C*03:02-B*58:01 was lower in the CC and CIN2+ groups than in the control group, and that of A*24:02-C*04:03-B*15:25 was higher in the CC group than in both the control and CIN2+ groups. These three different haplotype frequencies were also identified in the FIGO CC stage analysis. In addition, in human papilloma virus (HPV) genotype analyses, the frequencies of HLA-C*03:02 and DPB1*05:01 were significantly lower in the CC and CIN2+ groups than in the control group, and in SCC subgroup, the frequencies of HLA-DQB1*04:01 and DRB1*04:05 were higher in the HPV other genotype infection group than in the HPV16 infection group. In both HPV16 single infection and coinfection with other HPVs, the frequency of haplotype A*33:03-C*03:02-B*58:01 was lower in both CC and CIN2+ than in the control group, while the frequencies of A*11:01-C*14:02-B*51:01 and A*24:02-C*03:04-B*13:01 were higher in the CIN2+ than in CC and the control group. In the HPV16 and other HPV infection comparisons, the frequencies of DRB1*04:05-DQB1*04:01-DPB1*02:01 and DRB1*11:01-DQB1*03:01-DPB1*05:01 were lower in the HPV16 infection group than in the other HPV infection group. Our results suggest that the HLA class I and II genes may affect the risk of CIN and CC as well as the histologic CC types and FIGO stages of CC in the Han Chinese population. Objectives: To propose an original and standardized scoring system to quantify the functional and anatomical characteristics of adrenal tumor., Materials and Methods: Four groups of consecutive adrenalectomies (n = 458) with heterogeneity in tumor characteristics and surgical approaches, including 212 laparoscopic cases (Group 1) and 105 robotic cases (Group 2) from The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, 28 robotic cases from Temple University Hospital (Group 3) and 113 laparoscopic cases from The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University (Group 4). All patients were followed up for 4.5 to 5.5 years. Six parameters including functional status or suspicion of malignancy, tumor size, relationship to adjacent organs, intratumoral enhancement on CT, nearness of the tumor to major vessels and body mass index were assessed and scored on a 0, 1 and 2 points scale. Correlation between the sum of the 6 scores and tumor laterality (ADRENAL score) verse operative time (OT), estimated blood loss (EBL), perioperative complications, transfusion, conversion and length of hospital stay was analyzed., Results: ADRENAL score was a strong predictor of both OT and EBL in all four groups (p < 0.05 for all tests). In Group 2 and 4, higher ADRENAL score seemed to correlate with longer hospital stay. No statistically significant correlation between ADRENAL score and complication, transfusion or conversion was noted yet., Conclusions: ADRENAL score appears to be a valid predictor of surgical outcomes. The host immune system plays a crucial role in multiple types of cancer, including non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) protein heterodimer complexes might promote intracellular antigen peptide binding with class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC-I) molecules, and in recent years, TAP1 and TAP2 have been reported to be associated with multiple cancer risks. In the current study, we investigated the association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TAP1 and TAP2 with NSCLC in a Han Chinese population. Six and seven TAP1 and TAP2 SNPs, respectively, were genotyped and analysed in healthy controls and NSCLC patients. Based on our data, none of the six SNPs in TAP1 is associated with NSCLC risk (P > 0.0038). However, rs2228396 alleles in TAP2 were significantly different between NSCLC patients and healthy controls, and the A allele might be associated with an increased risk of this cancer (P = 0.001, OR = 1.65, 95%CI: 1.23 ∼ 2.21). Moreover, the genotype frequencies of rs2228396 were significantly different between patients and healthy controls (P = 7 × 10 -4 ). Additionally, TAP2 rs241441 alleles exhibited a trend of difference between NSCLC patients and healthy controls, with the C allele possibly being associated with increased risk of NSCLC (P = 0.013; OR = 1.30, 95%CI: 1.06 ∼ 1.60). Moreover, the genotypes of rs241441 in TAP2 showed a significant difference between NSCLC patients and healthy controls (P = 1 × 10 -4 ). In haplotype analysis, the TAP2 SNP haplotype (CAC, TAP2*0102) was significantly associated with increased NSCLC risk in the Han Chinese population (P = 0.003; OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.17 ∼ 2.10). The host immune system plays an important role in infectious diseases and cancers. The heterodimer formed by transporter associated with antigen presenting (TAP)1 and TAP2 is responsible for intracellular peptide loading onto MHC-I molecules. Studies have shown that single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TAP genes might affect the expression and function of TAP and be associated with cancer risk. We aimed to investigate the association of SNPs in the TAP1 and TAP2 genes with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer (CC) in a Chinese Han population. Six SNPs in the TAP1 gene and seven in the TAP2 gene were selected. The 13 SNPs were genotyped in 1255 healthy individuals, 575 patients with CIN and 1034 patients with CC using the SNaPshot assay. The association between these SNPs and CIN and CC risk was analysed. The allelic and genotypic distributions of rs41549617 and rs1135216 showed significant differences between the control and CC groups (P < 0.0038). The T allele of rs41549617 was associated with a decreased risk of CC (OR = 0.476, 95%CI: 0.286-0.791). Moreover, the G allele of rs1135216 appears to be associated with a decreased risk of CC (OR = 0.746; 95%CI: 0.632-0.881). The allele and genotype distribution of rs241441 showed a significant difference between the control and CC groups (P < 0.0038), and the rs241441 G allele was associated with an increased risk of CC (OR = 1.232, 95%CI: 1.092-1.398). In addition, the results of the association between TAP alleles and CC showed that TAP1*020101 and TAP1*0301 have an association with CC (P = 0.001 and P = 0.002, respectively). Major depressive disorder (MDD) is recognized as a primary cause of disability worldwide, and effective management of this illness has been a great challenge. While genetic component is supposed to play pivotal roles in MDD pathogenesis, the genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity of the illness has hampered the discovery of its genetic determinants. In this study, in an independent Han Chinese sample (1824 MDD cases and 3031 controls), we conducted replication analyses of two genetic loci highlighted in a previous Chinese MDD genome-wide association study (GWAS), and confirmed the significant association of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs12415800 near SIRT1. Subsequently, using hypothesis-free whole-brain analysis in two independent Han Chinese imaging samples, we found that individuals carrying the MDD risk allele of rs12415800 exhibited aberrant gray matter volume in the left posterior cerebellar lobe compared with those carrying the non-risk allele. Besides, in independent Han Chinese postmortem brain and peripheral blood samples, the MDD risk allele of rs12415800 predicted lower SIRT1 mRNA levels, which was consistent with the reduced expression of this gene in MDD patients compared with healthy subjects. These results provide further evidence for the involvement of SIRT1 in MDD, and suggest that this gene might participate in the illness via affecting the development of cerebellum, a brain region that is potentially underestimated in previous MDD studies.
