It is argued here that even with the development of objective algorithms, convection-allowing numerical models, and artificial intelligence/machine learning, conceptual models will still be useful for forecasters until all these methods can fully satisfy the forecast requirements in the future. Conceptual models can help forecasters form forecast ideas quickly. They also can make up for the deficiencies of the numerical model and other objective methods. Furthermore, they can help forecasters understand the weather, and then help the forecasters lock in on the key features affecting the forecast as soon as possible. Ultimately, conceptual models can help the forecaster serve the end users faster, and better understand the forecast results during the service process. Based on the above considerations, construction of new conceptual models should have the following characteristics: 1) be guided by purpose, 2) focus on improving the ability of forecasters, 3) have multiangle consideration, 4) have multiscale fusion, and 5) need to be tested and corrected continuously. Bacillidium spp. exclusively infect oligochaetes and these microsporidian pathogens are typically characterized by their rod-shaped spores. Seven Bacillidium spp. are presently reported from different organs of oligochaetes. Here, we describe two new Bacillidium species, Bacillidium sinensis n. sp. and Bacillidium branchilis n. sp., from coelomocytes of Branchiura sowerbyi. This is the first report of Bacillidium spp. in oligochaetes from China. Both species of Bacillidium elicit the formations of opaque xenoma-like lesions in coelomocytes of the host. A diplokaryotic nucleus occurs in all life stages of these two new Bacillidium species. Mature spores of B. sinensis are 15.9 ± 0.6 (14.7–17.1) μm long (average ± standard error, range, n = 50) and 2.5 ± 0.1 (2.3–2.7) μm wide in fresh preparations. A new type of exospore (sixteen-layered exospore) is discovered from B. sinensis n. sp. which is distinctly different from B. branchilis n. sp., and other Bacillidium spp. (double-layered exospore) reported previously. These two Bacillidium species are morphologically distinguished from each other and all Bacillidium spp. described previously in terms of hosts, infection sites, spore size, spore wall or polar filament thickness. BLASTn searches indicated that these two new microsporidian parasites are surprisingly most similar to Janacekia tainanus (94.76% for B. sinensis and 90. 2% for B. branchilis) isolated from the fat body of midge larva (Kiefferulus tainanus). Phylogenetic analysis demonstrates that the two novel taxons cluster with J. debaisieuxi, J. tainanus , and Bacillidium sp. within the Jirovecia-Bacillidium-Janacekia clade. Other available 18S rRNA gene sequences for microsporidia that infect oligochaetes include J. sinensis , B. vesiculoformis , Neoflabelliforma aurantiae , and Bacillidium sp., but these do not form a single cluster with B. sinensis and B. branchilis , but are instead dispersed through the clade. • The microsporidium Agglomerata daphniae n. sp. is described from Daphnia magna. • Phylogenetic analyses positioned A. daphniae within the "Agglomeratidae" sensu clade. • A daphnia is the first zooplankton-infecting microsporidium in China. A new microsporidian species was described from the hypoderm of Daphnia magna sampled from gibel carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) ponds located in Wuhan city, China. The infected cladocerans generally appeared opaque due to numerous plasmodia distributed in the host integument. The earliest stages observed were uninucleate meronts that were in direct contact with the host cell cytoplasm. Meronts developed into multinucleate sporogonial plasmodia enclosed in sporophorous vesicles. Sporoblasts were produced by the rosette-like division of sporogonial division. Mature spores were pyriform and monokaryotic, measuring 4.48 ± 0.09 (4.34–4.65) µm long and 2.40 ± 0.08 (2.18–2.54) µm wide. The polaroplast was bipartite with loose anterior lamellae and tight posterior lamellae. Polar filaments, arranged in two rows, were anisofilar with two wider anterior coils, and five narrower posterior coils. The exospore was covered with fibrous secretions and was composed of four layers. Phylogenetic analysis based on the obtained SSU rDNA sequence, indicated that the present species clustered with three unidentified Daphnia pulicaria -infecting microsporidia with high support values to form a monophyletic lineage, rather than with the congener, Agglomerata cladocera. The barcode motif of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the novel species was unique among representatives of the "Agglomeratidae" sensu clade (Vávra et al., 2018). Based on the morphological characters and SSU rDNA-inferred phylogenetic analyses, a new species was erected and named as Agglomerata daphniae n. sp. • A microsporidium Jirovecia sinensis sp. n. is described from an oligochaete. • Phylogenetic analyses positions J. sinensis in the Bacillidium - Janacekia - Pseudonosema clade. • The first SSU rDNA sequence of a species in Genus Jirovecia is provided. • Pinocytotic canals were located in the periphery of infected coelomocytes. • The pinocytotic canals may be related to nutrient acquisition from the host. We report a new microsporidium Jirovecia sinensis sp. n. from a freshwater oligochaete, Branchiura sowerbyi collected in Hongze city, Jiangsu province, East China. Numerous whitish hypertrophied coelomocytes of 0.33–0.59 mm in diameter indicated infection. Transmission electron microscopy observations revealed that all developmental stages were diplokaryotic. The earliest life stages observed were meronts that were in direct contact with host cytoplasm, accumulated peripherally in the hypertrophied coelomocytes and connected with host cytoplasm through many pinocytotic canals. Mature spores are rod-shaped with a blunt end, measuring 17.0 ± 0.1 (14.9–18.5) μm long and 2.0 ± 0.2 (1.7–2.2) μm wide. The most conspicuous character of the novel microsporidian parasite is the tail-like posterior prolongations, with a length of 29.6–40.8 μm. Mature spores have a manubrium with a diameter of 447–485 nm which consist of six density-discontinuous concentric circles. Spores possess a collar-shaped anchoring disk and a bipartite polarplast with an anterior lamellar region and a posterior tubular section. SSU rDNA-based phylogenetic analysis indicated with high support values that the new species clustered with two Bacillidium species (B. vesiculoformis and Bacillidium sp.) infecting the freshwater oligochaetes and Janacekia debaisieuxi infecting the insect Simulium maculatum. Background: Treatment of pediatric cataract remains challenging because of the extremely high incidence of postoperative adverse events (AEs), especially the AEs related to the locations of secondary implanted intraocular lens (IOL). There are two common locations for secondary IOL implantation in pediatric aphakic eyes: ciliary sulcus or in-the-bag implantation. However, there are currently no large, prospective studies comparing complication rates and visual prognosis of in-the-bag versus ciliarysulcus secondary IOL implantation in pediatric patients. Whether or how much secondary in-the-bag IOL implantation benefits the pediatric patients more than sulcus implantation and deserves to be performed routinely by surgeons remains to be elucidated. Here, we describe the protocol of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of two approaches of IOL implantation in pediatric aphakia. Methods: The study is a multicenter, single-blinded RCT with 10 years of follow-up. Overall, a minimum of 286 eyes (approximately 228 participants assuming 75% have two study eyes) will be recruited. This study will be carried out in four eye clinics across China. Consecutive eligible patients are randomized to undergo either secondary in-the-bag IOL implantation or secondary sulcus IOL implantation. Participants with two eyes eligible will receive the same treatment. The primary outcomes are IOL decentration and the incidence of glaucoma-related AEs. The secondary outcomes include the incidence of other AEs, IOL tilt, visual acuity, and ocular refractive power. Analysis of the primary and secondary outcomes is to be based on the intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis. Statistical analyses will include the χ2 test or Fisher's exact test for the primary outcome, mixed model and generalized estimated equation (GEE) model for the secondary outcome, Kaplan–Meier survival curves for the cumulative probability of glaucoma-related AEs over time in each group. Discussion: To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first RCT to evaluate the safety and efficacy of secondary IOL implantation in pediatric aphakia. Simple Summary: In this study, in order to understand the distribution and optimal living environment of Quasipaa spinosa in China, we made predictions about the impacts of different environmental climates on its habitat. Our results show that our model is highly reliable. The mountainous areas in southern China with sufficient water supply are the main suitable areas for this species. The future reduction in emission concentration will be friendly to the ecological environment in the suitable areas of this species, better protecting the reproduction of its natural population. Quasipaa spinosa is a large cold-water frog unique to China, with great ecological and economic value. In recent years, due to the impact of human activities on the climate, its habitat has been destroyed, resulting in a sharp decline in natural population resources. Based on the existing distribution records of Q. spinosa, this study uses the optimized MaxEnt model and ArcGis 10.2 software to screen out 10 factors such as climate and altitude to predict its future potential distribution area because of climate change. The results show that when the parameters are FC = LQHP and RM = 3, the MaxEnt model is optimal and AUC values are greater than 0.95. The precipitation of the driest month (bio14), temperature seasonality (bio4), elevation (ele), isothermality (bio3), and the minimum temperature of coldest month (bio6) were the main environmental factors affecting the potential range of the Q. spinosa. At present, high-suitability areas are mainly in the Hunan, Fujian, Jiangxi, Chongqing, Guizhou, Anhui, and Sichuan provinces of China. In the future, the potential distribution area of Q. spinosa may gradually extend to the northwest and north. The low-concentration emissions scenario in the future can increase the area of suitable habitat for Q. spinosa and slow down the reduction in the amount of high-suitability areas to a certain extent. In conclusion, the habitat of Q. spinosa is mainly distributed in southern China. Because of global climate change, the high-altitude mountainous areas in southern China with abundant water resources may be the main potential habitat area of Q. spinosa. Predicting the changes in the distribution patterns of Q. spinosa can better help us understand the biogeography of Q. spinosa and develop conservation strategies to minimize the impacts of climate change. We collected eleven bench samples of No. 6 coal from the Heidaigou Surface Mine, Jungar Coalfield, Inner Mongolia, China, and four samples from the affiliated coal preparation plant. Based on these samples, we used inductively coupled-plasma mass spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer techniques, and borehole exploration data, to investigate the distribution, occurrence and enrichment causes of gallium (Ga) in the coals. Our results show: (1) Gallium is significantly enriched in the coal seams from the study area, with an average content of 18.8-26.0 ppm. Gallium is distributed heterogeneously in the coals, and reaches ore-forming scales only in No. 6 coal of Heidaigou Surface Mine, not in the other mining districts of Jungar Coalfield. (2) On the horizontal plane, Ga is enriched in the main minable coals from the northern and middle part of the coalfield. In the vertical profile, Ga content in the coal seams is higher at the base of Taiyuan Formation (Nos. 8 and 9) and Shanxi Formation (Nos. 3 and 4) than at the top of the Taiyuan Formation. Within the identical coal seam, Ga content is higher in the benches near the roof and floor than in the middle section. (3) Gallium in the coals is associated mainly with kaolinite and boehmite. Additionally, Ga may be adsorbed to some extent by humic acid, resulting in a high level in weathering coal. (4) Geological factors affect Ga enrichment in coal, such as the property of parent rocks in the source area, the sedimentary environment, organic matter, structure, and past magmatic hydrothermal activity. Especially, Ga content in parent rocks plays a leading role. (5) The mobility and precipitation of trace elements like Ga are controlled principally by the geochemical behavior of the major element Al. Terrestrial and transgressive environments can cause the precipitation of bauxite, whereas marine-continental depositional environments may cause the separation of Ga from Al. In addition, Ga may migrate in the form of gas, and may be affected by the ground temperature. Thus, it is relatively enriched in high-volatile coal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Radar data assimilation (DA) can improve short-term precipitation forecasts. However, assimilating radar observations into a numerical prediction model may produce spurious precipitation and large errors in the position and magnitude of precipitation, and high-frequency cyclic assimilation may exacerbate this problem. In this paper, a severe convection case that occurred on 27 June 2018 over eastern China was used to investigate the impacts of the radar DA frequency and large-scale constraint on precipitation forecasts. The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) three-dimensional variational (3D-Var) DA system was used to assimilate radial velocity and reflectivity data. The sensitivity of the DA frequency using 15-min and 1-h assimilation intervals was examined first, revealing that the 15-min DA interval produced a greater overprediction bias of precipitation. A diagnosis of the analysis fields showed that higher-frequency DA cycling produced excessive wind speed and water vapor convergence at low levels and exaggerated upward movement. Then, the large-scale constraint was imposed on the regional model by the spectral nudging (SN) technique, which assimilated Global Forecast System (GFS) forecast field data during the forecast periods. The results demonstrated that the application of SN could significantly reduce the positional deviation of the precipitation forecast and the magnitude of overpredicted precipitation. SN could effectively adjust large-scale circulation fields, thereby improving the conditions of water vapor convergence. Moreover, SN also improved the forecasts of surface variables such as wind, temperature, and humidity. • The impacts of the radar data assimilation frequency and large-scale constraint on precipitation forecasts are investigated. • A higher frequency of radardata cyclic assimilation leads to a larger overprediction bias of precipitation. • Using the spectral nudging to assimilate GFS forecast data in the forecast periods can improve precipitation forecasting. Purpose: To investigate the changes in Chinese adults' physical activity (PA) behavior and determinants before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: A total of 1028 adults (aged 19–59 years) were recruited from 127 urban and rural neighborhoods in China using stratified three-stage probability sampling. Data collection was conducted in December 2019 and July 2020. Results: Compared with the data before the pandemic, individuals' weekly moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA (MVPA) decreased significantly from 139 min to 120 min, seven months after the outbreak (p = 0.01), with female and rural populations displaying a more significant decrease (p = 0.02). Overall, 13.7% of participants met the PA guidelines (World Health Organization) both before and during the pandemic, while 21.8% met the guidelines only before the pandemic and 18.1% increased their PA and met the PA guidelines during the pandemic. A total of 46.4% did not meet the PA guidelines before or during the pandemic. Determinants of PA behavior change before and during the pandemic included sports skills, self-determined motivation and support from sports organizations. Conclusions: The Chinese adults' PA levels decreased significantly from before to during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly among the female population. It is suggested that the enhancement of self-determined motivation, improvement of sport skills, and support from sports organizations might be effective in facilitating individuals' engagement in PA during the pandemic.
