Ion channel drugs have been increasing used for chronic pain management with progress in the development of selective calcium channel modulators. Although ion channel drugs have been proven safe and effective in clinical practice, uncertainty remains regarding its use to treat chronic pain. To standardize the clinical practice of ion channel drug for the treatment of chronic pain, the National Health Commission Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center for Pain Diagnosis and Treatment Special Ability Training Project established an expert group to form an expert consensus on the use of ion channel drugs for the treatment of chronic pain after repeated discussions on existing medical evidence combined with the well clinical experience of experts. The consensus provided information on the mechanism of action of ion channel drugs and their recommendations, caution use, contraindications, and precautions for their use in special populations to support doctors in their clinical decision-making. Information about throughfall, stemflow, and canopy interception loss is essential for the water use efficiency of crops and the dynamic processes of water erosion. A two-year field experiment was conducted under natural rainfall conditions to observe the characteristics and factors that affect throughfall, stemflow, and canopy interception loss in corn (Zea mays L.) and soybean (Glycine max L.) fields in northeast China from 2019 to 2020. Nine measurement sites (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I) were distributed horizontally between two planting rows under the crop canopy. The mean value of the throughfall volume (TF) in measurement locations B, C, and G under the corn canopy and measurement locations B and C could represent the mean level of TF of corn and soybean fields, respectively. The volume of TF, stemflow (SF), and canopy interception loss (CI) of two growing seasons from 2019 to 2020 accounted for approximately 58.5%, 30.1%, and 11.4% of the gross rainfall (GR) of two growing seasons in corn fields, and 78.0%, 7.5%, and 14.5% of the GR in the soybean field, respectively. The TF and TFR of each rainfall event in the corn and soybean fields could be predicted by linear regression models with a normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) lower than 25.0%. • The VOCs distribution was tracked from a large municipal solid waste landfill. • Seasonal and daily variations in occupational health risks of VOCs were assessed. • The risk species of VOCs at the sanitary landfill working face were identified. • The main influencing factors of the occupational health risks were screened. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission on the working face of a large sanitary landfill in northern China was characterized in a one-year long sampling campaign. A total of 67 VOCs with average annual concentration of 2903.01 μg/m3 were detected. Ethanol was the dominant species of detected VOCs, accounting for 76.4–82.3% of the total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) concentration. VOCs emission showed seasonal variation as the highest concentration was detected in summer and lowest appeared in winter. Furthermore, 50 VOCs identified were non-carcinogenic chemicals and 21 of them were carcinogenic chemicals. Risk assessment showed that the average total non-carcinogenic risk value (HI T) was 4.95, which far exceeded the threshold value of 1; and the average total carcinogenic risk value (Risk T) was 8.45 × 10−5, close to the limit of 1 × 10−4. That means both the non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks of long-term exposure to these VOCs could not be ignored. Some of the oxygenated compounds (Acrolein, Ethyl acetate, etc.), halocarbons (1,1,2-Trichloroethane, 1,2-Dichloropropane, etc.) and aromatic compounds (Naphthalene, m + p-Xylene, etc.) consisted the main contributors to non-carcinogenic risks. Meanwhile, carcinogenic risks were mainly caused by halocarbons (cis -1,2-Dichloroethylene, FREON11, etc.) and aromatic compounds (Benzene, Ethylbenzene, etc.). In addition, statistical analysis revealed that the HI T values were related to the concentrations of risk aromatic compounds, halocarbons and hydrocarbons; Risk T values were only related to the concentrations of risk aromatic compounds and halocarbons. Soil nutrient prediction has been eliciting increasing attention in agricultural production. Backpropagation (BP) neural networks have demonstrated remarkable ability in many prediction scenarios. However, directly utilizing BP neural networks in soil nutrient prediction may not yield promising results due to the random assignment of initial weights and thresholds and the tendency to fall into local extreme points. In this study, a BP neural network model optimized by an improved genetic algorithm (IGA) was proposed to predict soil nutrient time series with high accuracy. First, the crossover and mutation operations of the genetic algorithm (GA) were improved. Next, the IGA was used to optimize the BP model. The symmetric nature of the model lies in its feedforward and feedback connections, i.e., the same weights must be used for the forward and backward passes. An empirical evaluation was performed using annual soil nutrient data from China. Soil pH, total nitrogen, organic matter, fast-acting potassium, and effective phosphorus were selected as evaluation indicators. The prediction results of the IGA–BP, GA–BP, and BP neural network models were compared and analyzed. For the IGA–BP prediction model, the coefficient of determination for soil pH was 0.8, while those for total nitrogen, organic matter, fast-acting potassium, and effective phosphorus were all greater than 0.98, exhibiting a strong generalization ability. The root-mean-square errors of the IGA–BP prediction models were reduced to 50% of the BP models. Cancer is one of the greatest threats to human health. Gastric cancer (GC) is the fifth most common malignant tumor in the world. Invasion and metastasis are the major difficulties in the treatment of GC. Herbal medicines and their extracts have a lengthy history of being used to treat tumors in China. The anti-tumoral effects of the natural products derived from herbs have received a great deal of attention. Our previous studies have shown that the traditional Chinese herb Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb extract (COE) can inhibit the invasion and metastasis of GC cells, but the specific anti-cancer components of COE are still unclear. Dozens of natural products from COE have been isolated and identified by HPLC spectroscopy in our previous experiments. Triptonoterpene is one of the active ingredients in COE. In this study, we focused on revealing whether Triptonoterpene has an excellent anti-GC effect and can be used as an effective component of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb in the treatment of tumors. We first observed that Triptonoterpene reduces GC cell proliferation through CCK-8 assays and colony formation experiments. The cell adhesion assays have shown that Triptonoterpene inhibits adhesion between cells and the cell matrix during tumor invasion. In addition, the cell migration assay has shown that Triptonoterpene inhibits the invasion and migration of GC cells. The high-connotation cell dynamic tracking experiment has also shown the same results. The effects of Triptonoterpene on epidermal mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)-related proteins in gastric cancer cells were detected by Western blots. We found that Triptonoterpene could significantly inhibit the changes in EMT-related and invasion and metastasis-related proteins. Altogether, these results suggest that Triptonoterpene is capable of inhibiting the migration and invasion of GC cells. Triptonoterpene, as a natural product from Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb, has significant anti-gastric cancer effects, and is likely to be one of the major equivalent components of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. Introduction: Few studies have examined the epidemiology of herpes zoster (HZ) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) in China. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of HZ and PHN in China, and to examine the clinical characteristics of patients identified with PHN. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 24 hospitals in seven cities in China. Prevalence of HZ and PHN was determined by physician (n = 100) chart review of patients (n = 36,170) aged ≥ 40 years seeking medical care over a 30- to 60-day period. The health history of patients identified with PHN was obtained and included time since diagnosis of HZ or PHN, time since onset of PHN-related pain, and the methods used for diagnosing HZ and PHN. Results: The prevalence rates of HZ and PHN were 7.7% [95% confidence interval (CI) 7.5–8.0] and 2.3% (95% CI 2.2–2.5), respectively. Of patients with HZ, 29.8% developed PHN. Rates of HZ and PHN increased with age and were highest in patients aged ≥ 70 years (10.6% and 4.1%, respectively). The majority of patients with PHN were diagnosed with HZ (80.9%) and PHN (83.8%) for < 1 year, and had experienced PHN-related pain for < 1 year (80.5%). Patient description and clinical examination were most commonly used to diagnose HZ and PHN. Conclusion: These results provide current estimates of the prevalence of HZ and PHN in the general adult population in urban China. Background: This study was designed to determine the Human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence and its distribution of genotypes in various regions of Yunnan Province, China.Method: In this study, participants were recruited during routine gynecologic examination between Oct 2013 and Feb 2015. A total of 17,898 women were recruited. Polymerase chain reaction was used for detecting the HPV positive samples and HPV geno-array test was used for genotyping.Results: The overall HPV infection rate (19.9 %) among the south-western women was significantly higher (P = 0.001) than that among the north-western (18.0 %), south-eastern (13.3 %), north-eastern (11.1 %) and central women (12.9 %). The high-risk (HR) (18.1 %, P = 0.001) and single genotype (16.7 %, P = 0.001) infection rates among the South-western women were also significantly higher than those of among the north-western (13.9 %, 11.3 %), south-eastern (11.6 %, 10.5 %), north-eastern (9.6 %, 9.1 %) and central women (10.5 %, 10.0 %), respectively. While, the infections with multiple HPV (4.2 %) genotypes were significantly more common (P = 0.001) among women in north-western Yunnan than women in the south-western (1.3 %, 3.1 %), south-eastern (1.7 %, 2.7 %), north-eastern (1.5 %, 2.0 %) and central Yunnan (2.4 %, 2.9 %). A total of 30 HPV genotypes were detected; among them 13 were HR-HPV, 3 were PHR-HPV (Potential High risk), 8 were LR-HPV (Low risk) and six were unclassified. The most common HPV genotypes were HPV-52, 16, 58, 53 in control group, HPV-16, 52, 58, 39 and 53 in CINI (Cervical intraepithelial Neoplasia), HPV-52, 16, 58, 33, 53 and 81 in CINII, HPV16, 58, 18, 52, 81 in CINIII and HPV-16 18, 58, 52 in cervical cancer (CC), respectively. Such variation has also been observed about distribution of HPV genotypes distribution among single and multiple infections.Conclusion: This study gives an epidemiological estimate of HPV prevalence and different genotype distribution in various region of Yunnan province and further explains its prevalence in different neoplastic lesions. To date, there is a lack of fine-scale forest biological hazard risk (FBHR) data for Chinese forests on a national scale. This study explored the spatial and temporal patterns of the FBHR in prefecture-level cities in China. Data on the forest biological hazard (FBH) damage area and forest cover area of each prefecture-level city in China from 2007 to 2019 were used. Based on the statistical analysis characteristics of the FBH rate of each prefecture-level city in recent years, the spatial pattern of the FBHR of prefecture-level cities in China was obtained by optimal fitting. The results of the study show that the overall average annual occurrence of FBHs in China from 2007 to 2019 was 11,420 thousand hectares. Although the incidence rate showed a decreasing trend, the occurrence area showed a decreasing and then increasing trend. The incidence of FBHs in each prefecture-level city in China showed a pattern of "heavy in the north and light in the south"; the overall incidence of FBHs showed a pattern of "high in the central part and low in the north and south". The FBHR at the prefecture level in China showed a circular scattering spatial pattern, and significant geographical differences were observed, with an average annual expected incidence of approximately 1.3‰. Among them, the highest FBHR at the prefecture level, was mainly concentrated along the Henan, Anhui and Shandong borders. A high FBHR was distributed in the Jiangsu, Xinjiang, and Ningxia-Neimenggu areas. A medium FBHR was distributed in the North China Plain, Liaoning and Sichuan. A low FBHR was distributed in Central China, North China, Xinjiang and Liaoning. An extremely low FBHR was concentrated in Heilongjiang-Jilin-Qinghai-Gansu, southern East China, Southwest China and South China. HPV genotypes have distinct distributions among various ethnic populations worldwide. In December 2013, 237 and 159 cervical samples were collected from Hani and Han ethnic women, respectively, in Mojiang, a rural county in southern Yunnan. The overall HPV infection rate (21.1%) among the Hani women was significantly higher than that among the Han women (12.6%). The high-risk (HR) and low-risk (LR) HPV and single- and multiple-genotype infection rates among the Hani women were 11.0%, 4.6%, 15.6%, and 5.5%, respectively. HPV-16 (3.8%) was the most prevalent genotype among the Hani women, followed by HPV-52 (1.7%), HPV-31 (0.8%), and HPV-33 (0.8%). Comparatively, the Han women had lower infection rates of high-risk (8.2%), low-risk (1.2%), single-genotype (9.4%), and multiple-genotype HPV infections (3.1%). HPV-16 (3.1%) was also the predominant genotype among the Han women, followed by HPV-52 (1.3%), HPV-33 (0.6%), HPV-44 (0.6%), and HPV-54 (0.6%). The area background, number of children, and past history of STIs were recognized as potential risk factors for HPV infection. Rural background, age, education level, number of children, and illness history were significantly associated with HPV infection among the Hani women. Three different isolation techniques, specifically microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD), ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), and conventional hydrodistillation (HD) were employed to obtain essential oils from whole plants, leaves, roots, and stems of Perilla frutescens. The essential oils were analyzed using gas chromatography with flame ionization detection and gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. Variations in chemical composition were observed; these were attributed to differences in plant organs. Variations in the percentages of the main constituents of the oils extracted based on plant organ were irregular and affected the quantity and composition of the oils. Oil yields were affected by the method of extraction and extraction organ variation. The maximum volume of oil was extracted from leaves via MAHD and the minimum was extracted from roots via UAE. Oil yields ranged from 0.05% to 0.53%. The contents of essential oil varied significantly with the plant organ. In the essential oils of the plant parts studied were showed a predominance of oxygenated monoterpenes. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) released from landfills have received increased attention because of their health risks. In this study, individual external and internal exposures of BTEX in a municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill were simultaneously studied for the first time. Eight workers from the landfill (as the case group) and eight control subjects were enrolled in the study. In total, 88 air samples and 232 urine samples (194 samples from the case group and 38 samples from the control group) were obtained from 2018 to 2019. According to the results of external exposure monitoring, benzene was the predominant component of BTEX, and the exposure level was higher in winter than in other seasons. Carcinogenic (Risk T) and noncarcinogenic (HI T) risks were calculated based on a dose-response model. The Risk T (1.64 × 10−8–1.09 × 10−6) might exceeded the limit, whereas HI T (9.84 × 10−4–1.40 × 10−2) was within their thresholds. Benzene was the major contributor to both Risk T and HI T. Internal exposures were evaluated by measuring urinary metabolites of BTEX. Levels of urinary BTEX metabolites for case group were higher than those for control group. A remarkable increase in urinary metabolites was observed from the urine samples of the case group after their shift compared with those before their shift. t,t -MA, the metabolite of benzene, was found to exceed the biomonitoring guidance limits of both China and the United States of America. Landfills can be considered as a potential BTEX exposure source for landfill employees. Minimizing occupational exposures and appropriate personal protective equipment are needed in reducing BTEX exposures. This meta-analysis systematically evaluated the effects of water improvement and defluoridation on fluorosis-endemic areas in North and South China. The study used PubMed, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang to retrieve relevant research studies published between January 2000 and October 2019. The data included water fluoride levels, dental fluorosis prevalence in children 8–15 years of age, urinary fluoride levels in children and adults, and skeletal fluorosis prevalence in adults. Fixed-effects and random-effects models were used in the meta-analysis. A total of 17 research articles met the inclusion criteria and had an average water improvement period of 15.8 years. With water improvement, water fluoride levels decreased from 2.72 mg/L to 0.54 mg/L (95% confidence intervals: −2.75, −1.58), which was below the standard for drinking water (1.5 mg/L). Additionally, after water improvement, the prevalence of dental fluorosis decreased from 54.5% to 36.2% (95% confidence intervals: 0.12, 0.31) in children, and the prevalence of skeletal fluorosis decreased from 13.7% to 4.2% (95% confidence intervals: 0.16, 0.40) in adults. Urinary fluoride levels decreased from 3.06 mg/L to 1.70 mg/L (OR = −2.03, 95% confidence intervals: −2.77, −1.30) in children and from 2.29 mg/L to 1.72 mg/L (OR = −0.57, 95% confidence intervals: 0.65, −0.49) in adults. The results showed that the prevalence of dental fluorosis and skeletal fluorosis and urinary fluoride levels were significantly reduced by water improvement. This study findings revealed that the effects of water improvement and defluoridation were greater in South China than in North China, and it is obviously related to the time of water improvement and reducing fluoride. Trichosporon loubieri is an opportunistic pathogenic fungus that could causes invasive infections for human, which rarely been reported. In the present study, we reported a case of bloodstream infection from a patient with Ph-positive B-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia (B-ALL) due to Trichosporon loubieri. Trichosporon loubieri was identified by Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) gene sequencing. The patient was treated by intravenous voriconazole (VCZ) and amphotericin B (AmB) according to antifungal susceptibility testing and he was still alive so far. To the best of our knowledge, this is the fourth report of human bloodstream infection due to Trichosporon loubieri and the first survival case of its kind in an immunocompromised patient. Runoff loss and soil erosion are the main factors threatening grain production in the corn belt of northeast China (CBNC) and are closely related to the planting pattern, row direction, and practice of straw mulching. A 4-year (2017–2020) field experiment was conducted under natural rainfall conditions from 2017 to 2020 to ascertain the effects of the planting pattern, including continuous corn (C), perennial alfalfa (A), and soybean-corn rotation (S-C); row direction including parallel slope (PS) and cross slope (CS); and practice of straw mulching (marked by the subscript SM) on runoff and soil erosion from sloped farmland in the CBNC. Runoff depth and the amount of soil loss under continuous corn with parallel-slope cultivation (PSC) were higher than those of alfalfa with parallel-slope cultivation (PSA) and soybean-corn rotation with parallel-slope cultivation (PSS-PSC) during 2017–2020. Cross-slope planting (CSA, CSC, and CSS-CSC) reduced runoff loss by 7.8–23.3% and the amount of soil erosion by 15.9–73.7% when compared to parallel-slope planting (PSA, PSC, and PSS-PSC). The CSA treatment generated the least runoff depth and soil erosion amount among CSA, CSC, and CSS-CSC. Straw mulching (PSC SM and PSS SM -PSC SM) decreased runoff by 82.6–85.5% and reduced the amount of soil erosion by 87.9–91.5% relative to not using straw mulching treatments (PSC and PSS-PSC). Therefore, cross-slope cultivation and straw mulching can significantly reduce surface runoff and soil erosion on slope farmland. Background: Hypospadias is a congenital genitourinary malformation, with the etiology remaining complex and poorly understood. Despite several genes have been identified to be associated with the risk of hypospadias, current understanding of the susceptibility loci for hypospadias yet remained largely improved. The CACNA1D gene encodes calcium voltage-gated channel subunit alpha 1d and may be involved in androgen signaling. However, the genetic susceptibility of CACNA1D associated with hypospadias has yet been addressed., Objective: To evaluate the association between CACNA1D polymorphisms and the susceptibility to hypospadias., Methods: In this study, we accessed the association between two potential regulatory SNPs (rs3774491 and rs898415) within CACNA1D and hypospadias in a cohort of southern Chinese population which comprised of 740 cases and 948 healthy individuals. Both SNP and haplotypic associations were evaluated. Bioinformatic analysis of the regulatory abilities of the CACNA1D SNPs were carried out by utilizing public ChIP-seq and DNase-seq data. The expression of Cacna1d in mouse external genitalia and testis was evaluated by qPCR., Results: We found that the allele C in rs3774491 and allele G in rs898415 were significantly associated with an increased risk of hypospadias, especially for proximal hypospadias. Further model-based genotypic analyses showed that these association were prominent in additive model and recessive models. Bioinformatic analyses indicated that both SNPs were colocalized with DNase and multiple histone marker across multiple tissues, suggesting the regulatory potentials for these variants. Cacna1d is detectable in both testis and external genitalia of mouse, but the expression level was more prominent in testis than that in external genitalia, suggesting tissue-specific differences in its expression., Conclusion: Our findings provide evidence for CACNA1D as a novel predisposing gene for hypospadias, shedding new light on the genetic basis of malformation of urinary tract. Microbial (bacteria and fungi) community structures and their distributions in urban household municipal solid waste (HMSW) were characterized in a sampling campaign in 38 cities of China covering 5 climatic zones. All samples were collected from garbage containers in residential communities during the Winter of 2022, from January 11 to 26. A total of 247 bacterial genera belonging to 22 phyla were identified among the samples. Firmicutes (44.3 %), Bacteroidetes (33.77 %) and Proteobacteria (21.54 %) were the top 3 dominant phyla, and Arcicella (33.11 %) and Leuconostoc (21.87 %) were the dominant genera. Meanwhile, 124 fungal genera from 7 fungal phyla were detected. Ascomycota was the most dominant phylum, with an average relative abundance of 77.31 %. Hanseniaspora (24.03 %), Debaryomyces (13.47 %), Candida (12.18) were the top 3 dominant fungal genera. Alpha-diversity analysis showed that the species richness and diversity of bacterial and fungal communities of HMSW samples belonging to different climatic zones did not differ significantly. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) analysis confirmed that climatic had an effect on microbial communities but did not show a significant correlation. In addition, the distribution of microbial community in different samples from the same climate zone varied considerably, suggesting the HMSW source play important role in shaping microbial community composition. Considering that residential HMSW is relatively fresh, we speculates that the original microorganisms residing in different components of HMSW are key influencing factor for the community, while the reshaping force driven by environmental conditions are relatively weak. In addition, the study identified 13 bacterial and 16 fungal pathogens with Pseudomonas putida (0.25 %) and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (2.12 %) as the most abundant potential pathogenic bacteria and fungi, respectively. The working surface of landfills is an important source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which have received increasing attention because of their role in potentially forming ozone and secondary organic aerosols (SOAs). In this study, 99 monitoring datasets on VOC emissions from a landfill working surface were obtained in 9 months and used to evaluate their ozone formation potential (OFP) and SOA formation potential (SOAFP) from a statistical perspective and compared using various methods. December was found to have the highest total OFP and SOAFP caused by VOC emissions from the landfill working surface. Both the propylene equivalent concentration (PEC) and maximum incremental reactivity (MIR) methods indicated that oxygenated compounds, especially ethanol, contributed the most to the OFP, accounting for 16.1 %-95.4 % and 44.9 %-98.6 % of the total OFP during the entire observation period, respectively. The fraction aerosol coefficient (FAC) method highlighted the effect of aromatic hydrocarbons which contributed to over 97 % of the total SOAFP. In contrast, the SOA potential (SOAP) method indicated that both aromatic hydrocarbons and oxygenated compounds play important roles, contributing 26.6 %-93.9 % and 21.6 %-73.4 % of the total SOAFP, respectively. Based on their mechanisms and comprehensiveness, PEC and SOAP methods are considered more appropriate for evaluating the OFP and SOAFP of VOCs released from landfill working surfaces. The annual total OFP and SOAFP of VOCs from landfill working surfaces of China in 2020 were thus estimated as 1.5 × 10 4  t and 135 t, respectively, with high variations among different regions along with the population, waste management system, and the amount of landfilled waste. Effect of different fermentation methods on heavy metal bioaccessibilities in wheat flour is undetermined. In this work, gastric and gastrointestinal heavy metal bioaccessibility in wheat flour products (control-wheat dough, T1-mantou made with normally fermented dough, T2-mantou made with over-fermented dough and T3-mantou made with over-fermented dough + Na 2 CO 3 ) made from two wheat flour samples (NX and QD) was assessed via a modified physiologically-based extraction test. Cadmium, Zn and Mn bioaccessibility in the gastric phase (GP) was greater than in the gastrointestinal phase (GIP), yet the opposite was observed for Cu (p < 0.05). Lead bioaccessibility in the GIP of the QD sample was 1.37-4.08 times greater than that in the GP, while only the control had greater bioaccessibility in the GIP than that in the GP (p < 0.05) for the NX sample. Treatments T2 and T3 had greater Cd, Cu, Zn and Mn bioaccessibilities than the control and T1 in the GP (p < 0.05). In the GIP, however, only T3 had greater Mn bioaccessibility than the control for the NX sample. Enhanced degradation of the heavy metal-phytate following over-fermentation may have led to greater heavy metal bioaccessibility. Objective: Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) originates from disruption of normal neural crest cell migration, differentiation, and proliferation during the fifth to eighth weeks of gestation. This results in the absence of intestinal ganglion cells in the distal intestinal tract. However, genetic variations affecting embryonic development of intestinal ganglion cells are unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigated the potential value of miR-492 rs2289030 G>C as a marker of susceptibility to HSCR., Methods: In this case-control study in southern Chinese children, we collected samples from 1473 controls and 1470 patients with HSCR. TaqMan genotyping of miR-492 rs2289030 G>C was performed by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction., Results: Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that there was no significant association between the presence of the miR-492 rs2289030 G>C polymorphism and susceptibility to HSCR by evaluating the values of pooled odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Similarly, among different HSCR subtypes, rs2289030 G>C was also not associated with HSCR in hierarchical analysis., Conclusions: Our results suggest that the miR-492 rs2289030 G>C polymorphism is not associated with susceptibility to HSCR in southern Chinese children. These results need to be further confirmed by investigating a more diverse ethnic population of patients with HSCR.

Cervicogenic headache is a relatively common but unique form of headache, and in China, as well as in several other countries, both diagnosis and a clear evidence-based treatment plan remain controversial. Therefore, the Chinese Association for the Study of Pain organized a meeting of pain management experts and created an expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of cervicogenic headache in China. This article summarizes the conclusions of the consensus group regarding the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of cervicogenic headache in China.

Background: The relationship between microRNA-1 (miR-1) expression and prognosis has not been reported in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The present study aimed to explore the clinicopathological significance and the prognostic role of miR-1 in HCC., Methods: The expression levels of miR-1 were quantified using real-time quantitative PCR (q-PCR) in 40 surgically resected HCC samples and matched adjacent non-cancerous tissues., Results: MiR-1 expression was significantly downregulated in HCC compared with matched non-cancerous tissues. Aberrant miR-1 expression was significantly correlated with gender, expression of hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg), tumor differentiation, vein invasion, and TNM stage. Patients with low expression of miR-1 had significantly reduced overall survival compared with patients with high expression of miR-1 (p = 0.04).The multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that miR-1 expression (HR = 2.79; p = 0.005), gender (HR = 0.087; p = 0.005), vein invasion (HR = 0.172; p = 0.007), and TNM stage (HR = 3.421; p = 0.001) were independent prognostic factors for overall survival., Conclusions: Low miR-1 expression is associated with shortened survival time. MiR-1 may act as a potential prognostic biomarker for HCC patients.

Conventional hydrodistillation (HD) and microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD) were performed to obtain the volatile oils of Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb. harvested in three different regions of China, which were subsequently characterized by GC-FID and GC/MS analyses. Compared with HD, MAHD was advantageous in terms of energy savings and extraction time (60 vs. 240 min for MAHD and HD, resp.). The chemical composition varied among the different oils obtained, and the variations in the contents of the main constituents of the oils were irregular. Hence, these variations affected both the quantity and composition of the oils. The oil yields (0.15-0.21%) were affected by the method of extraction and the region of harvest, with the maximum amount of oil obtained by MAHD for the plants collected in Hubei (HB) and the minimum yield obtained by HD for the plants from Zhejing (ZJ). Hexadecanoic acid constituted the major compound of the essential oils, with the highest content found in the oil obtained by HD for plants from HB (41.18%) and the lowest one found in the oil obtained by MAHD from plants from ZJ (11.83%). Microwave irradiation did not adversely affect the composition of the essential oils. Vibrio cholerae O139, the second etiological serogroup of cholera, triggered the first outbreak of O139 cholera in China in 1993. To analyze the clone polymorphism of O139 isolates in China, 117 strains of V. cholerae O139, isolated from different areas in China between 1993 and 1999, were selected to characterize the phylogenetic relationships by molecular techniques. Analysis of restriction fragment length polymorphism in the conserved 16S rRNA gene revealed seven different ribotypes within the 117 strains. Among these strains, there were eight that lacked the cholera toxin gene (ctxAB), zot, and the repetitive sequence (RS); these eight strains belonged to three individual ribotypes. Our results suggested that V. cholerae O139 strains in China had clone diversity in phylogeny. The results of our hybridization patterns for CTX genetic elements (ctxAB, zot, and RS) showed that CTXPhi genomes in most V. cholerae O139 strains had two or more copies and had extensive restriction patterns even for the strains which belong to the same ribotype. For 22 (20.1%) strains, the copies of ctxAB were different from those of zot, suggesting that a ctxAB-negative CTXPhi genome may exist in O139 strains. This ctxAB-negative CTXPhi genome may coexist with the intact CTXPhi genome in a strain. In addition, the dendrogram for I-CeuI-generated pulsed-field gel electrophoresis patterns showed that V. cholerae serogroup O139 has a closer relationship with one strain of serogroup O22 than with the strains of serogroup O1. The results of this study showed the clonal diversity and the distribution of O139 strains in China, suggesting multiple origins of the O139 cholera epidemic or sporadic events.
