We introduce a new family of mechanisms for one-sided matching markets, denoted pick-an-object (PAO) mechanisms. When implementing an allocation rule via PAO, agents are asked to pick an object from individualized menus. These choices may be rejected later on, and these agents are presented with new menus. When the procedure ends, agents are assigned the last object they picked. We characterize the allocation rules that can be sequentialized by PAO mechanisms and the ones that can be implemented in a robust truthful equilibrium. We justify the use of PAO as opposed to direct mechanisms by showing that its equilibrium behavior is closely related to the one in obviously strategy-proof (OSP) mechanisms, but implements commonly used rules, such as Gale-Shapley DA and top trading cycles, which are not OSP implementable. We run laboratory experiments comparing truthful behavior when using PAO, OSP, and direct mechanisms to implement different rules. These indicate that agents are more likely to behave in line with the theoretical prediction under PAO and OSP implementations than their direct counterparts. From the perspective of supply and demand, in view of the unreasonable structure of logistics system and the inefficient use of logistics resources, a matching measurement method system of regional logistics system structure and logistics resources based on quantity, structure, space and time (QSST) equilibrium is proposed, mainly including the matching mechanism and process model, matching measurement model and matching discrimination analysis. It mainly includes the matching mechanism and process model, matching measurement model, and matching degree discriminant analysis. Combined with the coupled coordination degree model, an example analysis of the matching degree of logistics system structure and logistics resources in China is conducted using relevant panel data from 2011 to 2020, and the study confirms that structural mismatch is currently an important element affecting the sustainable development of China's logistics industry. This theory and method can better evaluate the matching state of logistics structure and resources, find the individual advantages of the matching relationship between the two in different stages, make a correct analysis and evaluation of the evolution trend of the matching relationship between the two, and then provide a basis for managers to plan the green, healthy and sustainable logistics structure. The Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) program is an innovative approach that provides economic incentives directly to natural resource exploiters in order to shape their behavior. Although the implementation of PES programs and the context in which these programs are implemented are often different across space, the spatial heterogeneities in the impacts of PES programs are often neglected in studies. In this study, we demonstrate the spatial and temporal dynamics of the Normalized Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI) in the grassland where China's Grassland Ecological Compensation Program (GECP) has been implemented, and we evaluate the impacts of the GECP on the NDVI. We found that most of the grassland in the GECP area showed small changes in NDVI between 2000 and 2010. On average, the GECP only had a marginal positive effect on the NDVI of grassland. Although the magnitude of impacts of the GECP was relatively small in most places where the program is implemented, we detected substantial heterogeneities in the impacts of the GECP on the NDVI. The impact of the GECP on the NDVI differed substantially, particularly between Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, and other provinces. Our findings suggest that there can be substantial heterogeneities in the impacts of PES programs across space, which can be leveraged to promote the efficacy of the GECP and many other PES programs around the world. University-enterprise cooperation has experienced nearly 30 years of development in China, there are still a large number of failure cases in practice, and academic research often presents a unilateral situation of 'enterprise-university'. This study starts with the bilateral matching between enterprises and universities, using data on invention patents jointly applied for by Chinese enterprises and universities from 2010 to 2020, discusses the influence of university-enterprise knowledge potential matching on the innovation performance of university-enterprise cooperation and the influence of university level and enterprise R&D investment intensity on the innovation performance of university-enterprise cooperation when the knowledge potential difference is similar. The results show that: (1) knowledge potential matching has a significant effect on the innovation performance of university-enterprise cooperation: the smaller the knowledge potential difference, the higher the innovation performance; (2) with similar knowledge potential difference, the level of the university has no significant impact on the innovation performance, and the R&D investment intensity of enterprises is positively correlated with the innovation performance of university-enterprise cooperation; (3) geographical proximity has a significant inverted U-shaped moderating effect on the relationship between knowledge potential matching and the innovation performance of university-enterprise cooperation. Accurately identifying the matching relationships between territorial space evolution and the resources and environment carrying capacity will directly guide the sustainable use of territorial space. Based on the evaluation of the territorial space dynamics of the lower Yellow River, this paper evaluates the suitability of territorial space development by focusing on ecological protection, agricultural development, and urban construction. Specifically, the resources and environment carrying capacity is estimated by identifying and mediating potential conflicts in the development of territorial space. The matching relationship between the evolution of territorial space and the resources and environment carrying capacity is identified using the matching degree model. The results demonstrated that: (1) Between 2000 and 2020, the agricultural space of the lower Yellow River was relatively stable, while the ecological space was generally shrinking, and the urban space continued to increase; (2) The characteristics of suitability for the agricultural development and urban construction of the lower Yellow River are characterized by landform and land-sea differentiation. The carrying scale of resources and the environment is based on agricultural space and is increasing yearly, followed by ecological space, which is gradually decreasing, and urban space, which first increased and then decreased; (3) Between 2000 and 2020, the matching index of the ecological and agricultural space evolution and the resource and environmental carrying capacity in the lower Yellow River exhibited a downward trend, while the regional difference increased. Objective: The present study tested the efficacy of an unguided internet‐based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (iACT) program for depression, and identified the psychological characteristics of participants who benefitted the most from the program. Method: Undergraduate students with mild to severe symptoms of depression were randomized to the iACT group (n = 95) or the waiting‐list group (WLC group; n = 87). Depressive symptoms and positive mental health were assessed at baseline (T0), at the end of the 6‐week program (T1), and at a 3‐month follow‐up (T2). Results: Compared with the WLC group, the iACT group showed significantly more improvement in depressive symptoms (d = 1.27) and positive mental health (d = 0.59), both at T1 and T2. Latent Profile Analysis identified three classes of participants: Sensitive‐to‐Relationship, Low‐Reactive‐Depression, and Endogenous‐Depression group. In general, the treatment was particularly suitable for the Sensitive‐to‐Relationship class. Conclusion: The iACT was effective in treating the depressive symptoms of undergraduates, especially suitable for the clients with high baseline depression, high externality, high resistance, and high sensitivity to relationships. Overseas study is a global phenomenon and a major business internationally. But does overseas study pay off? Using data from the 2015 China Household Finance Survey (CHFS), we examine the labour market performance of overseas returnees in China. To obtain more accurate results, we matched each returnee with a local so that the domestic group is as similar as possible to the returnee group. We then conducted empirical analyses of the matched data. We find that compared with domestic postgraduates, returnee postgraduates earn about 20 per cent more annually. Moreover, the salary premiums paid for foreign graduate degrees can be attributed principally to the superior human capital gained from overseas education rather than from any "signalling" effect. Also, returnees with graduate degrees are more likely to enter high-income professions and foreign-funded ventures, and to reach higher positions in those organizations. However, we find no significant differences in income, occupation choices and positions between returnee and local bachelor's degree recipients. As such, we suggest that Chinese students and their families are best served when the students obtain a local undergraduate degree and then go overseas for graduate training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To compare long-term outcomes between pre-operative radiotherapy followed by open surgery and direct open surgery among women with Stage IB1-IIB cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Methods: A multicenter retrospective cohort study among women with Stage IB1-IIB cervical squamous cell carcinoma who underwent open surgery either directly (SD group) or with pre-operative radiotherapy (PR group) in China 2004-2016. Five-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between the two groups were compared by Kaplan-Meier methods and multivariate Cox regression.Results: Overall, 8385 women with Stage IB1-IIB were included (PR group, n = 447; SD group, n = 7938). Five-year OS and DFS was significantly lower in the PR than in the SD group (OS: 81.7% vs 91.6%, P < 0.001; DFS: 76.3% vs 86.7%, P < 0.001). As compared with direct surgery, pre-operative radiotherapy was an independent risk factor for 5-year OS (adjusted hazard raio [aHR], 1.75; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.34-2.30) and DFS (aHR, 1.37; 95% CI, 1.09-1.73) by multivariate Cox regression. Sensitivity analyses confirmed the findings.Conclusion: Among women with Stage IB1-IIB cervical squamous cell carcinoma, outcomes were found to be worse for those undergoing pre-operative radiotherapy followed by open surgery than for those undergoing direct open surgery. In recent years, China has experienced a trend of changing from the Boston mechanism (BM) to the Chinese parallel mechanism for high school and college admissions. Using a unique data set from the high-school-assignment system in China that combines survey data eliciting students' school preferences with administrative data that cover students' school choices and admission records under both mechanisms, this paper compares the welfare performance of BM, the Chinese parallel mechanism, and the Deferred Acceptance (DA) mechanism. We find a non-monotonic relationship between the manipulability and efficiency of school choice mechanisms: DA yields significantly higher welfare than the Chinese parallel mechanism and BM, but BM yields higher welfare than Chinese parallel mechanism although not significantly. We also find that switching from BM to Chinese parallel mechanism hurts students regardless of their socioeconomic status, but benefits students with higher test scores. Students with lower socioeconomic status benefit more than those with higher socioeconomic status when switching from BM to DA, but when switching from Chinese parallel mechanism to DA, students with higher socioeconomic status benefit more. A field study conducted in Shanghai identified a robust inconsistency between real estate developers' desired sales pattern (selling all apartments in a building at similar rates) and the actual sales pattern (selling good apartments faster). The authors explain this inconsistency using Tversky, Sattath, and Slovic's (1988) prominence principle, according to which buyers, who were in a choice mode, weighed the desirability of floors more heavily than developers, who were in a matching mode when setting prices. This explanation is corroborated by controlled experiments involving potential home buyers and professional real estate price setters. The research relates an intriguing anomaly originally found in paper-and-pencil surveys to a real-world issue in one of the world's most active markets. Rapid expansion of China's exports and inward foreign direct investment (FDI) are characteristic of China's outward-oriented economy. Based on a unique micro-level survey on the co-development between domestic enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises in Kunshan County of Jiangsu Province, this paper finds that domestic enterprises can improve their productivity by matching (in terms of supply, processing, or original equipment manufacturer [OEM] relationship) with foreign-invested enterprises. A self-selection mechanism of matching is at work for domestic enterprises involved in exports: when foreign-invested enterprises operate in China, domestic enterprises compete to match with them, which eventually helps them improve. Empirical analysis supports the emergence of this mechanism, together with a learning-by-exporting effect and a peer effect. In addition, with respect to the peer effect, the improvement in productivity at domestic enterprises whose main product is intermediate inputs depends more on skilled or high-quality labor, while that of domestic enterprises whose main products are capital and consumable products depend more on management staff. Integrating ecosystem services supply-demand relationships into ecological management zoning is a hot topic. Most studies have focused on the matching relationship between the supply and demand of ecosystem services. However, the extent to which both are coordinated at different matching levels is ignored, that is, whether ecosystem services supply and demand tend to reinforce each other at high levels or constrain each other at low levels. Therefore, taking Dalian as an example, this study constructed a research framework for ecological management zoning by integrating the matching and coupling coordination relationship of ecosystem services supply-demand. We found that the supply of ecosystem services in Dalian decreased by 23.70% and the demand increased by 22.54% from 2005 to 2019. There was an obvious mismatch and disharmony in the supply and demand of ecosystem services, and the matching and coordination often did not exist simultaneously. Overlay analysis was used to divide Dalian into four ecological management zones: eco-conservation, eco-development, eco-improvement, and eco-restoration zones. Drawing on a recently collected nationwide survey in mainland China, this article examines the average level of generalized trust among urban Protestants. This is the first rigorous quantitative study addressing the relationship between religion and trust in the context of mainland Chinese society. Through propensity score matching, this study also demonstrates how to deal with potential selection bias, a long-time overlooked issue in the sociology of religion. The findings in this article reveal that both male and female urban Protestants, compared with non-Protestants, show a significantly lower level of generalized trust in an average person. A similar pattern was not detected in Buddhists. Finally, urban Protestants in contemporary China on average exhibit a higher level of trust in religious adherents and religious organizations. Taken together, this study provides a preliminary portrait of urban Protestants in terms of their attitudes towards the trustworthiness of generalized others, religious followers, and religious organizations. The uneven distribution and spatial mismatch between water and land resources (WLR) limit the utilization efficiency of agricultural water and land resources (AWLR), and then pose a threat to food production. There is a critical need to understand their matching characteristics for strategic resource allocation decisions and management. In this study, a holistic index (RSI) derived from resource equivalency analysis (REA) was developed which contributed to examine the abundance or deficiency of agricultural water and land resources (AWLR) based on the conception of generalized water resources (including blue water and green water). Results indicate that the matching degree of AWLR was the lowest in Northeast China, North China and Gansu in Northwest China, while the highest value was in Xinjiang due to the higher blue water use. In north China, other provinces suffered water scarcity except in Jilin, Liaoning, Henan, while all provinces in south China suffered land scarcity except in Tibet and Jiangsu. Meanwhile, the matching of AWLR was not exactly consistent with the distribution pattern of precipitation. The higher proportion of green water resources was not located in southeast China with rich precipitation; it had to do with water management. Too much or little water resources can result in the increasing of blue water use. The proposed approach can be a powerful instrument to implement public policies and management strategy as an attempt to improve the utilization efficiency and enhance the optimize-allocation of AWLR. This paper investigates the effects of domestic privatisation or foreign acquisition of Chinese State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) on employment growth, using firm level data for China and a combination of propensity score matching and difference-in-differences in order to identify the causal effect. Our results suggest that, controlling for output growth there is some evidence that domestic privatisation leads to contemporaneous reductions in employment growth compared to firms that did not undergo an ownership change. Transformation and upgrading are crucial for the development of agri-products, whereas an appropriate creative agri-product scheme is the key. How to match the demanders and suppliers of creative agri-product schemes based on the demand analysis of demanders and the expected implement effect analysis of creative schemes provided by suppliers is of great significance, while research concerning this issue is still relatively scarce, especially in how to organize and mine the demand information and expected implement effect information. The purpose of this paper is to develop a novel sentiment analysis-based method for matching creative agri-product scheme demanders and suppliers by taking a case study from China. The procedure of this method includes five parts: first, structured processing of demand documents of different demanders; second, formation of creative agri-product scheme demand matrix; third, formation of creative agri-product scheme supply matrix; fourth, measurement of matching degrees of creative agri-product scheme supply and demand; fifth, construction and solution of a multi-objective optimization model for the matching problem. To illustrate the use of the proposed method, an empirical analysis of generating suitable creative agri-product scheme demand and supply matching pair for nut agri-products in XS village is given. Based on inventor-author analysis, we describe a matching and disambiguation procedure for identifying the tacit university-industry collaborations in Chinese patents. We then make a detailed and comprehensive description of their characteristics. Using 11,336 inventor-patent instances selected from the application data of invention patents in the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) between 1985 and August 30, 2016, we have identified the inventors' affiliations in each patent by combining publication information in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The findings show that there are indeed more scientific collaborations than the co-application information represents, especially after the year 2004 and in eastern regions. Also, although the application number of tacit patents invented by academic and industrial inventors is high, the granted number of them is lower, indicating that the omission bias can be weakened when we take patent value into consideration. Environmental labels are designed to signal environmental and health information on products throughout their life cycle to consumers and other stakeholders. Investigating A-share listed manufacturing firms in China for the 2004–2018 period, this paper sheds new light on the nexus of environmental labeling certifications and firm performance. We find that there is a grouping difference in firm performance between treatment firms and comparison firms, no matter whether measured by ROA, Tobin's Q, or TFP. Based on the difference-in-difference (DID) regression, we show that manufacturing firms significantly increase their financial performance and productivity after obtaining environmental labeling certifications. Our research also reveals that the effects of environmental labels on firm performance stem from both the labeling effect and technical factor. The results are robust when we use the micro-level DID model. Further examination shows that the intervention effect is mainly driven by the mechanism of price markup rather than by market share. • Propose an optimal assignment matching strategy for a freight O2O platform. • Jointly optimize the delivery route and pricing strategies for multiple-delivery-points service. • Suggest HSLR strategy for high-tier cities, whereas and ST strategy for low-tier cities. • Explore the impact of customer segmentation on the selection of pricing strategies. A multiple-delivery-points service that matches a vehicle to distribute goods from a merchant to multiple retailers is a novel and important business model in freight O2O platforms. Thus far, the distribution matching strategy that does not consider the pricing strategy has found wide use in practice. In this study, using mixed integer linear programming, we propose an assignment matching strategy that jointly optimizes the matching and pricing strategies with optimal delivery routes to multiple retailers. Based on practical data from Zallsoon, a famous freight O2O platform in China, the results show that the proposed assignment matching strategy has the potential to improve the pickup distance by 75–81.81%. Further, the choice of pricing strategies could contribute 60–93.33% in improvements to the transportation cost for cities with various order structures and promotion levels. The Chang'E-2 digital elevation model (DEM, named CE2TMap2015), which is the highest resolution DEM product in China, was released with global coverage of the lunar surface. A detailed geometric quality assessment of the product is desirable for wider applications by users. A novel procedure for evaluating DEM geometric quality, which investigates both the global geometric uncertainty and local gross errors, is proposed in this paper. First, the DEM was divided into regular blocks and matched with the reference DEM. Then, the characteristics of errors were investigated using the statistical information of the matched tie points. Next, the local outlier factor (LOF) algorithm was performed to locate the gross errors. In our experiment, CE2TMap2015 was evaluated using the proposed method, with SLDEM2015 as the reference DEM. The results show that there were widespread geometric inconsistencies with an area-weighted average of 183.1 m horizontally (with the standard deviation being 101.2 m) and 2.3 m vertically (with the standard deviation being 15.4 m). Gross errors were detected automatically and were excluded in the statistical analysis. The periodic errors were extracted in the frequency domain using a Fourier transform. Our research results provide instructional information for the utilization of CE2TMap2015 by world-wide users. Protected areas (PAs) form the backbone of global conservation efforts. Although many studies have evaluated the impact of PAs on land cover, human disturbances, and people's welfare, PAs' impact on wildlife habitat quality remains poorly understood. By integrating wildlife habitat mapping and information of 2183 rural households, we assessed the impacts of nature reserves (a type of PAs) across the entire geographic range of giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) on panda habitat suitability change between 2001 and 2013 using the matching approach. We found the impact of nature reserves is concentrated in areas susceptible to human pressure, where 65% of the habitat suitability increase is attributable to the nature reserves' protection. The impact of nature reserves has spilled over to nearby unprotected areas and enhanced habitat suitability there. Nature reserves supported by the central government showed higher performance in improving habitat suitability than their counterparts supported by local governments. Older nature reserves perform better than those established more recently. Our results also show that local households' participation in tourism and labor migration (people temporarily leaving to work in cities) enhanced the ability of nature reserves to improve habitat suitability. Based on the panel data of 20,594 fourth- and fifth-grade students in the western provinces A and B in China, this paper analyzed the effect of boarding at school on the mental health of students using a combination of the propensity score matching (PSM) and difference-in-differences (DID) methods. The results showed that boarding had no significant effect on the mental health of students, but the tendency of loneliness among boarding school students was increased. Heterogeneity analysis found that fifth-grade students whose parents had both left home to work were more likely to have poorer mental health when boarding. This paper has essential policy significance for guiding rural primary schools to improve the mental health of boarding school students, especially left-behind children.

Objective: To compare survival outcomes of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and laparotomy in early-stage cervical cancer (CC) patients., Methods: A multicenter retrospective cohort study was conducted with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO, 2009) stage IA1 (lymphovascular invasion)-IIA1 CC patients undergoing MIS or laparotomy at four tertiary hospitals from 2006 to 2017. Propensity score matching and weighting and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed. Survival was compared in various matched cohorts and subgroups., Results: Three thousand two hundred and fifty-two patients (2439 MIS and 813 laparotomy) were included after matching. (1) The 2- and 5-year recurrence-free survival (RFS) (2-year, hazard ratio [HR], 1.81;95% confidence interval [CI], 1.09-3.0; 5-year, HR, 2.17; 95% CI, 1.21-3.89) or overall survival (OS) (2-year, HR, 1.87; 95% CI, 1.03-3.40; 5-year, HR, 2.57; 95% CI, 1.29-5.10) were significantly worse for MIS in patients with stage I B1, but not the cohort overall (2-year RFS, HR, 1.04; 95% CI, 0.76-1.42; 2-year OS, HR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.70-1.41; 5-year RFS, HR, 1.12; 95% CI, 0.76-1.65; 5-year OS, HR, 1.20; 95% CI, 0.79-1.83) or other stages (2) In a subgroup analysis, MIS exhibited poorer survival in many population subsets, even in patients with less risk factors, such as patients with squamous cell carcinoma, negative for parametrial involvement, with negative surgical margins, negative for lymph node metastasis, and deep stromal invasion < 2/3. (3) In the cohort treated with (2172, 54%) or without adjuvant treatment (1814, 46%), MIS showed worse RFS than laparotomy in patients treated without adjuvant treatment, whereas no differences in RFS and OS were observed in adjuvant-treatment cohort. (4) Inadequate surgeon proficiency strongly correlated with poor RFS and OS in patients receiving MIS compared with laparotomy., Conclusions: MIS exhibited poorer survival outcomes than laparotomy group in many population subsets, even in low-risk subgroups.
