Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic spread rapidly with considerable morbidity nationwide since China's liberalization in December 2022. Our work has focused on identifying different predictive factors from the laboratory examination of critically ill patients, and forecasting the unfavorable outcome of critically ill patients with COVID-19 through a combined diagnosis of biological markers. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study at the Department of First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, China, from December 24, 2022, to January 10, 2023, where 434 critically ill patients who met the inclusion criteria were involved. Machine analysis was employed to search for the parameters with the highest predictive value to calculate COVID-19 mortality by exploiting 66 typical laboratory results. Results: Combined diagnosis of serum albumin (ALB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), direct bilirubin (Dbil), ferritin, pulse oxygen saturation (SpO2), and neutrophil count (NEUT#) was evaluated, and the result with the highest predictive value (NEUT#) was selected as the predictor for COVID-19 mortality with a sensitivity of 89.2% and a specificity of 77.4%. Conclusions: The increased levels of LDH, Dbil, ferritin, and NEUT#, along with lowered ALB and SpO2 levels are the most decisive variables for forecasting the mortality for COVID-19 according to our machine-learningbased model. Scytinostroma is species-rich genus in Peniophoraceae, Russulales and has been shown to be polyphyletic. In this study, we performed phylogenetic analyses on the core clade of Scytinostroma based on concatenated ITS1-5.8S-ITS2-nrLSU sequence data. Fifteen lineages including four new species from China, Scytinostroma beijingensis, S. boidinii, S. subduriusculum, and S. subrenisporum, were recognized. The genus Michenera was nested within the Scytinostroma s.s. clade in the phylogenetic tree of Peniophoraceae. Sequences of S. portentosum (type species) and S. hemidichophyticum from Europe formed a strongly supported lineage sister to the S. portentosum sample from Canada. It is supposed that the European "S. portentosum" is S. hemidichophyticum, and the former species is restricted in distribution to North America. Scytinostroma duriusculum is supposed to be a species complex. Samples from Sri Lanka (the type locality) formed a lineage sister to those from China, Thailand and Vietnam (described herein as S. subduriusculum) and two samples from France that might represent an undescribed species. The four new species are described and illustrated, and an identification key to all the 14 Scytinostroma s.s. species worldwide is provided. Introduction: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) is effective for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). Moreover, remote programming is widely used in Mainland China. This necessitates evaluating the ability of remote programming to achieve the ideal postoperative effect. Therefore, we aimed to retrospectively evaluate the effects of different programming modes on the effectiveness of STN-DBS 12 months postoperatively in patients with PD. Methods: Clinical data were collected retrospectively, before and 12 months after surgery, in 83 patients with PD. Based on the programming modes voluntarily selected by the patients during 12 months postoperatively, they were divided into three groups, namely remote programming alone, hospital programming alone, and hospital + remote programming. We compared the programming data and the effects of different programming methods on STN-DBS-related improvements 12 months postoperatively among these groups. Furthermore, we analyzed STN-DBS-related improvements at 12 months postoperatively in 76 patients. Results: The effectiveness of STN-DBS was not influenced by the three programming modes. The postoperative Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale scores did not reveal statistically significant differences between the remote alone and hospital alone programming groups, except for motor examination. The postoperative decline in the levodopa equivalent daily dose was most apparent in the hospital programming alone group. The programming frequency of the hospital + remote programming group was considerably higher than that of the remaining groups. Seventy-six patients with PD displayed good STN-DBS surgical efficacy. We analyzed the economic benefits versus safety risks of sharing anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) vials during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. This single-center retrospective study analyzed the data of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) who received anti-VEGF between January 2016 and July 2021 at Renmin Hospital, Wuhan University, China. Costs were compared of the two protocols of intravitreal injections (IVIs) of ranibizumab, aflibercept and conbercept after (i) splitting the vial content for use in two patients and after (ii) disposal of the remaining vial content after use in a single patient, with the COVID-19 outbreak considered as the demarcation point. The incidence rates of post-injection endophthalmitis (PIE) pre- and post-outbreak were analyzed. The mean cost of a single IVI increased by 33.3%, from 3917.67±71.69 to 5222.67±84.98 Chinese Yuan during the pandemic. The incidences of IVI-related culture-positive PIE were 0.0134% (3 in 22448) and 0.0223% (1 in 4479), respectively, before and after the pandemic (P=0.6532). We conclude that vial sharing of IVIs in a large clinical institution is not associated with increased PIE risk and can significantly reduce the cost of therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Here we describe Oxytropis shennongjiaensis, a new species of Fabaceae from Central China (Hubei Province). Morphologically, O. shennongjiaensis is closely similar to O. sitaipaiensis, O. melanocalyx and O. kansuensis, but differs in stem characters, with less conspicuous internodes; persistent herbaceous stipules; pale yellow to white corolla; and stipitate legumes, 3-5 mm with a long beak. Phylogenetic analysis, based on the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) and two chloroplast markers (trnL-F and psbA-trnH), also identified O. shennongjiaensis as a new species, which is consistent with our morphological analyses. Considering the morphological data and phylogenetic data presented here, we believe that this evidence satisfies the required diagnostic criteria to identify O. shennongjiaensis as a new species. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are transcripts longer than 200 nt that are involved in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). To determine whether lncRNAs are involved in stable angina pectoris (SAP), we analysed the expression profile of lncRNAs and mRNAs on a genome-wide scale in SAP of Uyghur population. Five pairs of SAP patients and healthy controls were screened by an Agilent microarray (human lncRNA + mRNA Array V4.0). Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to validate the lncRNA expression levels in 50 SAP and 50 controls. Data analyses were performed using R and Bioconductor. A total of 1871 up- and 231 down-regulated lncRNAs were identified to be differentially expressed in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Microarray analysis results identified the lncRNAs NR 037652.1, ENST00000607654.1, ENST00000589524.1 and uc004bhb.3, which were confirmed by qRT-PCR. Among screened lncRNAs, the annotation result of their co-expressed mRNAs showed that the most significantly related pathways were the NF-κB signalling pathway, apoptosis and the p53 signalling pathway, while the main significantly related diseases were the cholesterol, calcium and coronary disease. Our study indicated that clusters of lncRNAs were significantly differentially expressed between SAP patients and matched controls. To investigate the effect of exercise on adiponectin in young healthy human males, we examined serum total adiponectin and high-molecular-weight (HMW) adiponectin in newly recruited male soldiers who participated in an 8-week basic military training (BMT). A total of 95 males (mean age, 18.79 ± 1.50 years) were sampled from among 1,100 new male army recruits in China. Participants were separated into 3 groups according to their body mass index (BMI): overweight group (BMI: 24.9 kg/m² to < 30 kg/m²; n = 26); normal-weight group (BMI: 18.5 kg/m² to < 24.9 kg/m²; n = 40); and underweight group (BMI: < 18.5 kg/m²; n = 29). Anthropometric measurements, fasting serum total adiponectin, HMW adiponectin, and lipid profiles were recorded at baseline and at the end of the 8-week BMT. After the 8-week BMT, the HMW/total adiponectin ratio (HMW/total ratio) and HDL cholesterol improved significantly (p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). HMW/total ratio showed significant correlations with HDL cholesterol. Our study suggests that an 8-week BMT can improve the HMW/total ratio in healthy young males regardless of their BMI and anthropometry. Both HMW/total ratio and HDL cholesterol can serve as potential biomarkers for assessing the efficacy of exercise and may have metabolic benefits for preventing obesity and obesity-related disease. Face in China is a well-known word but still lacks a precise and authoritative definition. Other than the counterpart connotation of social norms in western culture, Chinese face is also a cultural construct strongly connected with situational context. In order to explore the general context and the specific connotation of Chinese face, this paper focuses on comparing the difference between Reflective Models and Formative Models when measuring the construct of Chinese face. We find that RM is more reliable and stable than FM in terms of face measurement, but is inferior to FM in explaining the connotations of Chinese face. Moreover, we also explore the effects of different dimensions of Chinese face on consumer preference for ecological products. This study not only enriches the existing research on Chinese face, but also exploratively answers a controversial problem in this area. This paper reports the mineralogy and geochemistry of the Early Permian No. 5 coal from the Chuancaogedan Mine, Junger Coalfield, China, using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Low-temperature ashing X-ray diffraction (LTA-XRD) in combination with Siroquant software, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The minerals in the No. 5 coal from the Chuancaogedan Mine dominantly consist of kaolinite, with minor amounts of quartz, pyrite, magnetite, gypsum, calcite, jarosite and mixed-layer illite/smectite (I/S). The most abundant species within high-temperature plasma-derived coals were SiO2 (averaging 16.90%), Al2O3 (13.87%), TiO2 (0.55%) and P2O5 (0.05%). Notable minor and trace elements of the coal include Zr (245.89 mg/kg), Li (78.54 mg/kg), Hg (65.42 mg/kg), Pb (38.95 mg/kg), U (7.85 mg/kg) and Se (6.69 mg/kg). The coal has an ultra-low sulfur content (0.40%). Lithium, Ga, Se, Zr and Hf present strongly positive correlation with ash yield, Si and Al, suggesting they are associated with aluminosilicate minerals in the No. 5 coal. Arsenic is only weakly associated with mineral matter and Ge in the No. 5 coals might be of organic and/or sulfide affinity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Although chondroprotective activities have been documented for polysaccharides, the potential target of different polysaccharide may differ. The study was aimed to explore the effect of glucan HBP-A in chondrocyte monolayer culture and chondrocytes-alginate hydrogel constructs in vivo, especially on the expression of type II collagen. Methods: Chondrocytes isolated from rabbit articular cartilage were cultured and verified by immunocytochemical staining of type II collagen. Chondrocyte viability was assessed after being treated with HBP-A in different concentrations. Morphological status of chondrocytes-alginate hydrogel constructs in vitro was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The constructs were treated with HBP-A and then injected to nude mice subcutaneously. Six weeks after transplantation, the specimens were observed through transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mRNA expressions of disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 5 (ADAMTs-5), aggrecan and type II collagen in both monolayer culture and constructs were determined by real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The expression of type II collagen and matrix metalloproteinases-3 (MMP-3) in chondrocyte monolayer culture was also tested through Western blot and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. Results: MMP-3 secretion and ADAMTs-5 mRNA expression in vitro were inhibited by HBP-A at 0.3 mg/mL concentration. In morphological study, there were significant appearance of collagen in those constructs treated by HBP-A. Accordingly, in both chondrocyte monolayer culture and chondrocytes-alginate hydrogel constructs, the expression of type II collagen was increased significantly in HBP-A group when compared with control group ( P<0.001). Conclusions: The study documented that the potential pharmacological target of glucan HBP-A in chondrocytes monolayer culture and tissue engineered cartilage in vivo may be concerned with the inhibition of catabolic enzymes MMP-3, ADAMTs-5, and increasing of type II collagen expression. Aim The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of dyslipidemia in Xinjiang, China. Method Stratified sampling method was used to select a representative sample of the general population including Chinese Han, Uygur, and Kazak in this geographic area. Seven cities were chosen. Based on the government records of registered residences, one participant was randomly selected from each household. The eligibility criterion for the study was ⩾ 35 years of age. Results A total of 14,618 participants (5,757 Han, 4,767 Uygur, and 4,094 Kazak), were randomly selected from 26 villages in 7 cities. The prevalence of dyslipidemia was 52.72% in the all participants. The prevalence of dyslipidemia was higher in Han than that in the other two ethnic (58.58% in Han, 48.27% in Uygur, and 49.60% in Kazak, P < 0.000 ). The prevalence of dyslipidemia was higher in men than that in women (56.4% vs. 49.3%, P < 0.000). Among the participants with dyslipidemia, the proportion of those who aware, treat, control of dyslipidemia were 53.67%, 22.51%, 17.09% in Han, 42.19%, 27.78%, 16.20% in Uygur, 37.02%, 21.11%, 17.77% in Kazak. Conclusion Dyslipidemia is highly prevalent in Xinjiang. The proportion of participants with dyslipidemia who were aware, treated, and controlled is unacceptably low. Background Type IV collagen is important for the structural integrity and function of basement membranes. Basement membranes surround vascular smooth muscle cells in the media, COL4A1 is the most abundant component of type IV collagen in all Basement membranes. However, the relationship between COL4A1 genetic polymorphisms and coronary artery disease (CAD) remains unclear. We performed a case-control study to explore the association of COL4A1 genetic polymorphisms with CAD in Uygur population of China. Methods 1095 Uygur people (727 men, 368 women) including 471 CAD patients and 624 controls were selected for the present study. Two SNPs (rs605143 and rs565470) were genotyped by using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length (PCR-RFLP) method. Results For total and men, the rs605143 was found to be associated with CAD by in a dominate model (p = 0.014, p = 0.013, respectively). The difference remained statistically significant after multivariate adjustment (p = 0.036, p = 0.014, respectively). The rs565470 was also found to be associated with CAD in a recessive model for total and men (both p < 0.001), and the difference remained statistically significant after multivariate adjustment (P = 0.002, P = 0.001, respectively). Background. Non-small cell lung cancer patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations have mixed responses to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Intertumor heterogeneity in EGFR mutations is one potential explanation for this phenomenon. Methods. We performed direct sequencing to identify EGFR mutations in 180 pairs of lung adenocarcinoma samples (from 3,071 patients). The high-resolution melting method was used in discordant cases to confirm EGFR mutation status. Matching samples were divided into four groups: primary lesions detected at different times, primary tumors with matched metastatic lymph nodes, multiple pulmonary nodules, and primary tumors with matched distant metastases. Multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate correlations between heterogeneity and patient characteristics. Results. In the study population, the discordance rate was 13.9% (25 of 180). The multiple pulmonary nodules group had the highest discordance rate of 24.4% (10 of 41; odds ratio for heterogeneity in primary lesions detected at different times, 6.37; 95% confidence interval, 1.71-23.72; p = .006). Discordance rates in the metachronous and synchronous settings were 15.7% (22 of 140) and 7.5% (three of 40), respectively. In the 34 patients who developed EGFR TKI resistance, 10 (29.4%) cases exhibited heterogeneity and five (14.7%) patients exhibited a mixed response to the drug. Three (8.8%) of the patients with a mixed response also exhibited discordant EGFR mutations. Conclusions. The overall discordance rate of EGFR mutation heterogeneity in Asian patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma is relatively low, but the rate in patients with multiple pulmonary nodules is significantly higher. Background: Appropriate patient selection is needed for targeted therapies that are efficacious only in patients with specific genetic alterations. We aimed to define subgroups of patients with candidate driver genes in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer. Methods: Patients with primary lung cancer who underwent clinical genetic tests at Guangdong General Hospital were enrolled. Driver genes were detected by sequencing, high-resolution melt analysis, qPCR, or multiple PCR and RACE methods. Results: 524 patients were enrolled in this study, and the differences in driver gene alterations among subgroups were analyzed based on histology and smoking status. In a subgroup of non-smokers with adenocarcinoma, EGFR was the most frequently altered gene, with a mutation rate of 49.8%, followed by EML4-ALK (9.3%), PTEN (9.1%), PIK3CA (5.2%), c-Met (4.8%), KRAS (4.5%), STK11 (2.7%), and BRAF (1.9%). The three most frequently altered genes in a subgroup of smokers with adenocarcinoma were EGFR (22.0%), STK11 (19.0%), and KRAS (12.0%). We only found EGFR (8.0%), c-Met (2.8%), and PIK3CA (2.6%) alterations in the non-smoker with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) subgroup. PTEN (16.1%), STK11 (8.3%), and PIK3CA (7.2%) were the three most frequently enriched genes in smokers with SCC. DDR2 and FGFR2 only presented in smokers with SCC (4.4% and 2.2%, respectively). Among these four subgroups, the differences in EGFR, KRAS, and PTEN mutations were statistically significant. Conclusion: The distinct features of driver gene alterations in different subgroups based on histology and smoking status were helpful in defining patients for future clinical trials that target these genes. This study also suggests that we may consider patients with infrequent alterations of driver genes as having rare or orphan diseases that should be managed with special molecularly targeted therapies. Background: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and distribution of type 2 diabetes and to determine the status of type 2 diabetes awareness, treatment, and control in Xinjiang, China. Our data came from the Cardiovascular Risk Survey (CRS) study designed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in Xinjiang from October 2007 to March 2010. A total of 14 122 persons (5583 Hans, 4620 Uygurs, and 3919 Kazaks) completed the survey and examination. Diabetes was defined by the American Diabetes Association 2009 criteria. Methodology/Principal Findings: Overall, 9.26% of the Han, 6.23% of the Uygur, and 3.65% of the Kazak adults aged ≥35 years had diabetes. Among diabetes patients, only 53.0% were aware of their blood glucose level, 26.7% were taking hypoglycemic agents, and 10.4% achieved blood glucose control in Han, 35.8% were aware of their blood glucose level, 7.3% were taking hypoglycemic agents, and 3.13% achieved blood glucose control in Uygur, and 23.8% were aware of their blood glucose level, 6.3% were taking hypoglycemic agents, and 1.4% achieved blood glucose control in Kazak, respectively. Conclusions/Significance: Our results indicate that diabetes is highly prevalent in Xinjiang. The percentages of those with diabetes who are aware, treated, and controlled are unacceptably low. Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a complex multifactorial and polygenic disorder where multiple environmental and genetic factors are involved simultaneously. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the interaction of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) gene polymorphism and smoking and CAD in a Uighur population. Methods: Using a case-control study of Chinese Uighur CAD patients (n=430) and healthy controls (n=470), we investigated the roles of G-765C polymorphism in the COX-2 gene ( PTGS2) by the use of polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis. Results: The PTGS2 GG genotype was significantly more prevalent in CAD patients (84.6% vs. 78.3%; p=0.014). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed two independent risk factors: smoking (OR 1.89, 95% CI 1.01-5.24; p=0.008) and hypertension (OR 2.73, 95% CI 1.59-7.21; p=0.001). Moreover, there was a synergistic effect between smoking and the PTGS2 polymorphism and the occurrence of CAD (interaction p=0.009). The odds ratio (OR) estimated by the combined analysis of the PTGS2 GG genotype and smoking history (OR 4.09, 95% CI 2.7-9.3) was markedly higher than that estimated separately from the PTGS2 GG genotype (OR 1.28, 95% CI 0.8-1.9) or smoking (OR 2.51, 95% CI 1.5-5.7) alone. Plasma 6-keto-PGF1α, a stable metabolite of PGI2, was lower in individuals with the PTGS2 GG genotype (p<0.05). Smoking could further lower plasma 6-keto-PGF1α concentrations in GG genotype carriers than non-smokers, especially in patients with CAD. Background: Serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is not only an inflammatory factor, but also an apolipoprotein that can replace apolipoprotein A1 (apoA1) as the major apolipoprotein of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which has been linked to atherosclerosis. However, the relationship between genetic polymorphisms of SAA and the intima-media thickness (IMT) of the common carotid artery in healthy subjects remains unclear. We investigated the role of SAA1 and SAA2 gene polymorphisms with IMT in a cohort of healthy subjects participating in the Cardiovascular Risk Survey (CRS) study. Methodology/Principal Findings: Anthropometric and B-mode ultrasound of the carotid IMT were measured in 1914 subjects (849 men; 1065 women) recruited from seven cities in Xinjiang province, (western China). Four SNPs (rs12218, rs2229338, rs1059559, and rs2468844) were genotyped by use of the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. The SNP rs12218 was associated with carotid IMT by analyses of a dominate model (P<0.001) and additive model (P = 0.003), and the difference remained significant after multivariate adjustment (P = 0.008, P<0.001, respectively). This relationship was also observed in rs2468844 after multivariate adjustment by recessive model analysis (P = 0.011) but this was not observed in rs2229338 and rs1059559 before and after multivariate adjustment. These associations were not modified by serum HDL concentration. Furthermore, there were significant interactions between rs2468844 and rs12218 (interaction P<0.001) and rs2229338 (interaction P = 0.001) on carotid IMT. Conclusion/Significance: Both rs12218 of the SAA1 gene and rs2468844 of SAA2 gene are associated with carotid IMT in healthy Han Chinese subjects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the rapid development of the rubber industry and its downstream sectors in China, the resulting sharp increase in the number of scrap tires is creating great environmental pressure. By considering the tire production, consumption, collection, and reuse processes as a whole system of tire material flows, and based on physical input–output analysis (IOA), this article analyzes the status quo of China's tire industry and performs a comparative study between China and Europe. The study shows that the tire industry of China in 2005 and that of Europe in 1996 are similar in material-flow characteristics. To make the best use of materials, it is necessary to strengthen the reuse of scrap tires in China. The rapid increase of pasture containing lucerne (Medicago sativa) has increased demands for the continual supply of high quality seed, especially in China. Irrigation times are important for seed production. Five irrigation treatments, including (1) irrigation at podding and flowering and regrowth (when the shoots start emerging from the crown); (2) irrigation at podding and regrowth stages; (3) irrigation at flowering and regrowth; (4) irrigation at branching and regrowth; (5) irrigation at the regrowth stage only, were used to determine the effect of irrigation times on seed yield, its components, and seed distribution within plant in this field experiment. Treatment 5 is the local farmer irrigation practice, and was used as the control treatment. There were significant differences in seed yields between treatments, but not between two successive seasons. Irrigation at regrowth and podding produced the greatest seed yield, followed by, in decreasing order: regrowth stage; flowering and regrowth stage; podding and flowering and regrowth stage; branching and regrowth stage. Compared with irrigation at the regrowth stage only, irrigation at podding and regrowth stages significantly increased the fertile shoots per plant, racemes per plant and pods per raceme, which contributed to higher seed yield. Irrigation at flowering or branching greatly increased the shoots per plant, but reduced the fertile shoots per plant, and further decreased the seed yield. Seed weight per 100 pods in the treatment irrigated in the podding and regrowth stages was significantly greater than that in the other irrigation treatments. Analysis of a large database of the stratigraphic distribution of fusulinacean Foraminifera reveals an Early Permian event of significant decline of species diversity in South China. Data from Late Carboniferous to Early Permian sections without apparent unconformity in southwest China were evaluated to determine if the apparent pattern of species disappearance was caused by bias in fossil preservation associated with Early Permian sea-level changes. Statistical analysis suggests that the Early Permian event started in the Late Sakmarian with a significant drop of species diversity in the Robustoschwagerina ziyunensis Zone and continued through the Pamirina darvasica Zone of the Artinskian and into the Brevaxina dyhrenfurthi Zone of the Early Kungarian, resulted in a total loss of about 40% species diversity in the fusulinacean fauna. The Early Permian event is the most extensive bioevent in the history of fusulinacean Foraminifera at the species level although it is less significant at the generic level. Because a similar faunal change has been found among the fusulinacean assemblages in North America and in various regions of Tethys, this event may represent a major faunal turn-over in response to the Early Permian changes in sea level and could be of a global nature. Based on the analysis of monitoring data on six pollution indexes of SO2, NO2, CO, O3, PM10 and PM25 from 53 monitoring points in 7 cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, etc., from April 8 of 2014 to July 23 of 2014, this article adopted Pearson correlation coefficient method to determine the relevance among each pollutant of these cities with the help of SPSS. The results showed that such three leading indexes as SO2, PM10 and PM2.5 had strong correlation in Beijing, Tianjin and main cities of Hebei. To investigate the methane adsorption capacity and the characteristics of gas shales under high pressures, we conducted total organic carbon (TOC), low-pressure nitrogen adsorption (LPNA), and high-pressure methane adsorption experiments (up to 30.0 MPa) on eight Lower Silurian Longmaxi shale samples collected from northeastern Chongqing, China. The experimental results show that the excess adsorption capacity increases to its maximum value and then decreases with further increasing pressures. TOC and the specific surface area of micro-pores are positively correlated with the maximum methane adsorption capacity. The density of adsorbed phase is the key parameter for converting excess adsorption isotherms into absolute adsorption isotherms and has been determined based on three methods for comparison. The DR-based excess adsorption model in the third method has shown to be more reliable than other methods, in which the density of supercritical methane is considered to be lower than the liquid methane density at the boiling point (0.423 g/cm 3 ). The absolute adsorption isotherms were obtained after determining the density of adsorbed phase. The actual adsorption capacity would be underestimated when only low-pressure experiments (0–10 MPa) were performed. The analysis of the adsorbed-phase volume demonstrates that the adsorbed methane is stored not only in micropores (<2 nm) but also in meso-macropores (2–200 nm) as V micro < V a < V BJH . In order to better reveal the vulnerability characteristics of the wind-solar-thermal coupled system in northern China, this paper proposes a node vulnerability ranking and identification method. Firstly, according to the characteristics of AC faults and the inherent topology of the network, a set of dynamic and static evaluation indexes is constructed. Secondly, the intuitionistic fuzzy analytic hierarchy process and sparrow search algorithm are used to solve the combined weight optimization model. Then, combined with the improved MABAC method, the results of the comprehensive evaluation model are mapped to the percentile interval, and the severity grading evaluation reference table is established based on the weakness score reference value. Finally, taking a regional coupling system in Liaoning Province of China as an example, the node vulnerability under different conditions of single fault, double fault and new energy proportion is evaluated. Based on the risk theory, the fault risk model is introduced, and the results further show the consistency with the evaluation results of the proposed method. Background: To determine whether TG/HDL-C ratio, which has been shown to be an indicator of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and insulin resistance (IR), can predict cardiovascular risk factors in the Chinese Han population in Xinjiang.Methods: The cardiovascular risk survey (CRS) was conducted from October 2007 to March 2010. A total of 14,618 representative participants were selected using a four-stage stratified sampling method. A total of 5757 Han participants were included in the study. The present statistical analysis was restricted to the 5595 Han subjects who had complete anthropometric data. The sensitivity, specificity, and distance on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve in each TG/HDL level were calculated. The shortest distance in the ROC curves was used to determine the optimal cutoff of the TG/HDL-C ratio for detecting cardiovascular risk factors.Results: The prevalence of hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and hypertriglyceridemia was higher with higher TG/HDL-C ratio for both men and women. The TG/HDL-C ratio was positively associated with systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and serum concentrations of total cholesterol. The optimal TG/HDL-C ratio cutoffs for predicting hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and ≥2 of these risk factors for Han adults in Xinjiang were 1.3, 1.3, 1.4, and 1.4 in men and 0.9, 1.0, 1.0, and 1.1 in women, respectively.Conclusions: The evaluation of TG/HDL-C ratio should be considered for one of cardiovascular risk factor predictors among Han adults in Xinjiang. Dental calculus is a potential material that can be used for assessing chronic exposure to trace heavy metals in oral cavity as it is a long-term reservoir. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between dental calculus copper levels and risk of oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) due to chewing dried areca-nut quids in Mainland China. This study included 34 OSF (grade 1) sufferers with dried areca-nut quids chewing as the patient group and 23 healthy individuals without areca-nut chewing as the control group. The dental calculus sample was obtained from all 57 participants and evaluated by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for dental calculus level of copper. This work revealed that the mean copper level of dental calculus was significantly higher in OSF (grade 1) sufferers with areca-nut chewing than those in healthy individuals without areca-nut chewing (p < 0.001). This work provided an evidence to support that there may be a positive correlation between elevated levels of copper in dental calculus caused by chewing dried areca-nut quids and an increased risk of developing OSF in Mainland China., (© 2022. Sweet osmanthus ( Osmanthus fragrans Lour.) (OF) is one of the ten most famous flowers in China for its unique and delicate fragrance. A combined solid-phase microextraction and solvent-assisted flavor evaporation method was used to accurately capture the overall aromatic profile and characterize the predominant odorants of fresh osmanthus with the help of gas chromatography (GC)-olfactometry and comprehensive two-dimensional GC-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC × GC-QTOF-MS). Twenty-six volatiles were identified for the first time in OF. A total of 23 potent odorants, dominated by monoterpene oxides and C 6 aliphatic aldehydes, were identified. The efficacy of pectinase, β-glucosidase, and their combination on the aroma enhancement of OF was evaluated by quantitation of the target aroma components using GC-triple quadrupole-MS. The total concentration of key aroma components increased in all three enzyme treatment groups, and the increase was more significant in two β-glucosidase-treated groups. Changes in odor activity values and odor spectrum values of key odorants indicated that the pectinase-treated sample had more prominent floral, green, and potato-like scents. In contrast, the β-glucosidase-treated sample had more dominant floral, woody, almond-like, and fruity notes but less green odor, which was confirmed by sensory evaluation. β-Glucosidase and pectinase complement one another very well, and together, promote a remarkable aroma enhancement in OF.

Background: To document the clinical features, management and visual outcome of fireworks-related ocular injuries during the Spring Festival., Methods: A retrospective analysis of all patients with fireworks-related ocular injuries attending the Department of Ophthalmology in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University from January 20 to February 10, 2009. Age, gender, laterality, type of fireworks, location of incident, initial best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), diagnosis, management, and final BCVA at last follow-up were documented. Relevant clinical features and visual outcome were evaluated., Results: We observed 25 eyes in 24 patients. Injuries were more frequent in children (ten, 41.7%), males (19, 79.2%), and as open globe injury (15, 62.5%). The most common pyrotechnical products causing accidents were firecrackers (12, 50%). Rural residents had significantly higher rates of injury compared to urban residents (P = 0.023). Of 25 eyes, the most common injuries were corneal/scleral/corneoscleral open globe trauma (15, 60%), traumatic cataract (14, 56%), vitreous hemorrhage (seven, 28%) and retinal detachment (seven, 28%). Most eyes (23, 92%) received surgical intervention, including one (4%) eye enucleation. Vitrectomy was the most surgical treatment. After management, visual outcomes showed statistically significant improvement (P = 0.008). Initial BCVA correlated strongly with final BCVA (P = 0.010)., Conclusion: Fireworks-related ocular injuries occur mainly in children, males and rural settings, are frequently severe and visually devastating. Therefore, preventive measures should be strengthened, including public education and legal restriction on the sale and use of fireworks.
