Infection by the novel duck reovirus (NDRV) in ducklings causes high mortality, which leads to substantial economic losses in the duck industry in China. To date, no commercial vaccine is available for this disease. In this study, linear B cell epitopes of the sB protein of the NDRV were predicted and recombinant multiple linear B cell epitopes (MLBEs) were constructed through linkers. The recombinant MLBEs were then expressed and purified. One-day-old Muscovy ducklings were immunized with different doses of MLBEs and challenged with 5 × 104 ELD50 of the virulent CHY strain of NDRV 14 days after immunization. The ducklings vaccinated with 20 and 40 µg of MLBE performed no clinical signs or gross or histopathological lesions, indicating 100% protection against infection. The viral load in the liver and spleens of these birds was significantly lower than that in the control group. Additionally, these ducklings exhibited positive seroconversion at 7 days after vaccination on enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The objective of this study was to determine the differences of aroma and taste in three black sesame originsbefore and after processing via flavor and widely metabolomics. By analyzing the sensory characteristics and metabolites of raw and treated black sesame from China, Vietnam, and Myanmar, treated Chinese sesame have the most significant change in hardness after thermal processing, low viscosity and was easy to chew. The electronic nose could distinguish between raw and treated sesame due to the aroma distribution. The reason of treated sesame from China was "fragrant" is due to the highest content (2545.50 µg/kg) of total pyrazines including 2,5-dimethylpyrazine, 2-ethyl-5-methylpyrazine, 2,3,5-trimethylpyrazine, 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazine. 933 metabolites were detected via a wide targeted metabolomics in the taste of raw and treated sesame. Background: The aging population is increasing, making it essential to have a standardized, convenient, and valid electronic memory test that can be accessed online for older people and caregivers. The electronic version of the Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-Revised (HVLT-R) as a test with these advantages and its reliability and validity has not yet been tested. Thus, this study examined the reliability and validity of the electronic version of the HVLT-R in middle-aged and elderly Chinese people to provide a scientific basis for its future dissemination and use. Methods: We included 1,925 healthy participants aged over 40, among whom 38 were retested after 3-6 months. In addition, 65 participants completed both the pad and paper-and-pencil versions of the HVLT-R (PAP-HVLT-R). We also recruited 42 Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients, and 45 amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) patients. All participants completed the Pad-HVLT-R, the Hong Kong Brief Cognitive Test (HKBC), the Brief Visual Memory Test-Revised (BVMT-R), and the Logical Memory Test (LM). Results: (1) Reliability: the Cronbach's α value was 0.94, the split-half reliability was 0.96. The test-retest correlation coefficients were moderate, ranging from 0.38 to 0.65 for direct variables and 0.16 to 0.52 for derived variables; (2) Concurrent validity: the Pad-HVLT-R showed a moderate correlation with the HKBC and BVMT-R, with correlation coefficients between total recall of 0.41 and 0.54, and between long-delayed recall of 0.42 and 0.59, respectively. It also showed a high correlation with the LM, with correlation coefficients of 0.72 for total recall and 0.62 for long-delayed recall; (3) Convergent validity: the Pad-HVLT-R was moderately correlated with the PAP version, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.29 to 0.53 for direct variables and 0.15 to 0.43 for derived variables; (4) Discriminant capacity: the Pad-HVLT-R was effective in differentiating AD patients, as demonstrated by the ROC analysis with AUC values of 0.834 and 0.934 for total recall and long-delayed recall, respectively. Bacterial leaf streak (BLS) of rice is a severe disease caused by the bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc) that has gradually become the fourth major disease on rice in some rice-growing regions in southern China. Previously, we isolated a Bacillus velezensis strain 504 that exhibited apparent antagonistic activity against the Xoc wild-type strain RS105, and found that B. velezensis 504 was a potential biocontrol agent for BLS. However, the underlying mechanisms of antagonism and biocontrol are not completely understood. Here we mine the genomic data of B. velezensis 504, and the comparative transcriptomic data of Xoc RS105 treated by the cell-free supernatants (CFSs) of B. velezensis 504 to define differentially expressed genes (DEGs). We show that B. velezensis 504 shares over 89% conserved genes with FZB42 and SQR9, two representative model strains of B. velezensis, but 504 is more closely related to FZB42 than SQR9, as well as B. velezensis 504 possesses the secondary metabolite gene clusters encoding the essential anti-Xoc agents difficidin and bacilysin. We conclude that approximately 77% of Xoc RS105 coding sequences are differentially expressed by the CFSs of B. velezensis 504, which significantly downregulates genes involved in signal transduction, oxidative phosphorylation, transmembrane transport, cell motility, cell division, DNA translation, and five physiological metabolisms, as well as depresses an additional set of virulence-associated genes encoding the type III secretion, type II secretion system, type VI secretion system, type IV pilus, lipopolysaccharides and exopolysaccharides. We also show that B. velezensis 504 is a potential biocontrol agent for bacterial blight of rice exhibiting relative control efficiencies over 70% on two susceptible cultivars, and can efficiently antagonize against some important plant pathogenic fungi including Colletotrichum siamense and C. australisinense that are thought to be the two dominant pathogenic species causing leaf anthracnose of rubber tree in Hainan province of China. B. velezensis 504 also harbors some characteristics of plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium such as secreting protease and siderophore, and stimulating plant growth. Background: Cervical cancer is still present a major public health problem, especially in developing countries. In International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics 2018, allowing assessment of retroperitoneal lymph nodes by imaging and/or pathological findings and, if deemed metastatic, the case is designated as stage IIIC (with r and p notations). Patients with lymph node metastases have lower overall survival (OS), progression free survival (PFS), and survival after recurrence, especially those who have unresectable macroscopical positive lymph nodes. Retrospective analysis suggests that there may be a benefit to debulking macroscopic nodes that would be otherwise difficult to sterilize with standard doses of radiation therapy. However, there are no prospective study reporting that resecting macroscopic nodes before concurrent chemoradiation therapy (CCRT) would improve PFS or OS of cervical cancer and no guidelines for surgical resection of bulky lymph nodes. The CQGOG0103 study is a prospective, multicenter and randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluating lymph node dissection on stage IIICr of cervical cancer. Methods: Eligible patients are histologically confirmed cervical squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, adeno-squamous cell carcinoma. Stage IIICr (confirmed by computed tomography [CT]/magnetic resonance imaging/positron emission tomography/CT) and the short diameter of image-positive lymph node =15 mm. 452 patients will be equally randomized to receive either CCRT (pelvic external-beam radiotherapy [EBRT]/extendedfield EBRT + cisplatin [40 mg/m2] or carboplatin [the area under curve=2] every week for 5 cycles + brachytherapy) or open/minimally invasive pelvic and para-aortic lymph node dissection followed by CCRT. Randomization is stratified by status of para-aortic lymph node. The primary endpoint is PFS. Secondary endpoints are OS and surgical complications. Objective. To investigate the relationship between sleep duration and activities of daily living (ADL) disability, and to explore the optimal sleep duration among oldest-old Chinese individuals. Methods. In this cross-sectional study, 1,798 participants (73.2% female) were recruited from Dongxing and Shanglin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China in 2019. The restricted cubic spline function was used to assess the dose-response relationship between sleep duration and ADL disability, and the odds ratios (ORs) of the associations were estimated by logistic regression models. Results. The overall prevalence of ADL disability was 63% (64% in females and 58% in males). The prevalence was 71% in the Han population (72% in females and 68% in males), 60% in the Zhuang population (62% in females and 54% in males) and 53% in other ethnic population (53% in females and 53% in males). A nonlinear relationship between sleep duration and ADL disability was observed. Sleep duration of 8-10 hours was associated with the lowest risk of ADL disability. Sleep duration (-12 hours) was associated with the risk of ADL disability among the oldest-old individuals after adjusting for confounding factors (OR D 1.47, 95% CI [1.02, 2.10], p<0:05). Conclusion. Sleep duration more than 12 hours may be associated with an increased risk of ADL disability in the oldest-old individuals, and the optimal sleep duration among this population could be 8-10 h. Background: The number of patients suffering from depression is continuously increasing in China. Demographic characteristics, physical health levels, and individual lifestyles/healthy behaviors are associated with the severity of depression. However, the major risk factor for depression remains unclear. Materials and methods: In this investigation, 16,512 patients were screened using the CHARLS (China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study) database after being determined to be eligible based on the inclusion criteria. Depressive symptoms were evaluated through the CESD-10 (10-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale). Consequently, various models were developed based on potential predictive factors, employing stepwise LR (Logistic Regression)/RF (Random Forests) models to examine the influence and weighting of candidate factors that affect depression. Results: Gender, residential address location, changes in health status following last interview, physical disabilities, chronic pain, childhood health status, ADL (activity of daily living), and social activity were all revealed to be independent risk factors for depression (p < 0.05) in this study. Depression has a synergic effect (across chronic pain and age groups). In comparison to other factors, RF results showed that chronic pain had a stronger impact on depression. Background: Ischemic stroke refers to ischemic necrosis or softening of limited brain tissue caused by ischemia and hypoxia due to impaired blood circulation in the brain. Ischemic stroke is a major classification of cerebrovascular disease, accounting for about 80% of patients with cerebrovascular disease in China, with a high rate of disability and death. Recently, miRNAs were reported to participate in ischemic stroke pathogenesis and development. In the study, we aimed to study the role and underlying mechanism of miR-641 in ischemic stroke. Methods: Serum samples were extracted from acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients and healthy controls. The oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) method was used to treat SH-SY5Y cells to construct an ischemic stroke in vitro model. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assay and western blot analysis were conducted to detect miR-641 and MCL-1 expressions. The targeted relationship between miR-641 and MCL-1 was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter, RNA pull-down, and rescue assays. CCK-8, flow cytometry, and ELISA assays were performed to measure cell viability, apoptosis, and inflammation. The activation of the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway was verified by western blot assay. Results: MiR-641 was increased while MCL-1 was decreased in serum samples from AIS patients, serving as highly-sensitive biomarkers in AIS diagnosis. After OGD/R treatment, SH-SY5Y cell viability, and MCL-1 expression were decreased, along with increased miR-641 expression, cell apoptosis, and inflammation. MiR-641 aggravated while MCL-1 mitigated OGD/R-triggered injury and inflammation in SH-SY5Y cells. MCL-1 was a downstream target of miR-641, which could be negatively regulated by miR-641. Finally, miR-641 exacerbated the progression of OGD/R-triggered SH-SY5Y cell injury via the MCL-1/Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. Conclusions: MiR-641 may be a novel therapeutic agent for ischemic stroke by modulating the MCL-1/Wnt/ß-catenin axis on neuronal damage in brain tissue in the ischemic region after ischemic stroke. Background Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of hospitalization and mortality for older chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. However, the epidemiological data is scarce. We aimed to determine the prevalence of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and HF, and to explore the risk factors for HF among those patients. Methods This is a cross-sectional analysis of the China Hypertension Survey conducted between October 2012 and December 2015. A total of 5,808 participants aged ≥ 65 years were included in the analysis. Self-reported history of HF and any other cardiovascular diseases was acquired. 2-D and Doppler echocardiography were used to assess LV dysfunction. CKD was defined as either estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 mL/min per 1.73 m² or urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR) ≥ 30 mg/g. Results Among CKD patients aged ≥ 65 years, the weighted prevalence of HF, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), heart failure with mid-range ejection fraction (HFmrEF), and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) was 4.8%, 2.5%, 0.8%, and 1.7%, respectively. The weighted prevalence of HF was 5.0% in patients with eGFR < 60 mL/min per 1.73 m², and was 5.9% in patients with ACR ≥ 30 mg/g. The prevalence of LV systolic dysfunction was 3.1%, and while it was 8.9% for moderate/severe diastolic dysfunction. Multivariate analysis showed that smoking was significantly associated with the risk of HF. Furthermore, age, smoking, and residents in rural areas were significantly associated with a risk of LV diastolic dysfunction. The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has rapidly spread globally. Cancer patients are at a higher risk of being infected with the coronavirus and are more likely to develop severe complications, as compared to the general population. The increasing spread of COVID-19 presents challenges for the clinical care of patients with gynecological malignancies. Concerted efforts should be put into managing gynecological malignancies in an orderly manner by strictly implementing the measures that are specifically developed for controlling the spread of COVID-19. We have drafted Recommendations on Management of Gynecological Malignancies during the COVID-19 Pandemic based on our experience on controlling COVID-19 pandemic in China. We recommend that patients with gynecological malignancies should be managed in hierarchical and individualized manners in combination with local conditions related to COVID-19. Medical care decision should be balanced between controlling COVID-19 pandemic spread and timely diagnosis and treatment for gynecologic oncology patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Post-cesarean section uterine diverticulum (PCSUD) is a recess in the lower uterine segment of the cesarean section incision that protrudes to the serosa due to healing defects. With the abolition of the one-child policy, allowing couples to have two children in the past year in China, more and more couples plan to give birth to a second baby. However, with the significant increase in the cesarean section rate in the past two decades in China, the incidence of PCSUD also obviously increased. Aim: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of hysteroscopy combined with laparoscopy in treatment of patients with PCSUD. Material and methods: Fifty-two cases of patients with post-cesarean section uterine diverticulum (PCSUD) who suffered from conservative treatment failure in the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital (affiliated to Beijing Capital Medical University) between January 2012 and June 2017 were retrospectively analyzed in this study. Patients with reproductive requirements were treated with hysteroscopy combined with laparoscopy surgery (experimental group, n = 31); those without reproductive requirements were treated with hysteroscopic surgery (control group, n = 21). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay period, clinical efficacy and recurrence rate of the two groups were compared. Results: All the patients successfully completed the operation procedure in both experimental and control groups. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss and post-operative hospital stay in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in clinical efficacy or recurrence between the two groups (p > 0.05). Six months after the operation, the uterus muscularis thickness was 4.2 ±1.9 mm and 9.8 ±6.2 mm for control and experimental groups respectively, which indicates that the muscularis thickness in the experimental group was significantly greater than that of the control group (p < 0.05). Dissolved oxygen (DO) depression in urban rivers appears to be increasing in developing countries, which causes severe aquatic ecosystem stresses. One urban river which suffers DO depression under low flow conditions and requires systematic research for effective mitigation strategies is the Nanfei River (Hefei, China). We investigated its longitudinal profiles of DO and other related water constituents with high spatial resolution monitoring at low flow. A mechanistic DO model for the reach was customized and calibrated with the data obtained. We found that the daily average DO levels within the 11 km study reach shifted from supersaturation (11.5 mg L-1) upstream of the Wangtang Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to serious depletion (3.6 mg L-1) downstream. Process analysis indicated that DO production via strong algal photosynthesis overwhelmed the DO consumptions upstream from the WWTP. In contrast, DO sources could not compensate for DO consumptions, wherein carbonaceous deoxygenation was the largest consumer of the DO (approximately 70%) downstream the WWTP. Rather than directly contributing labile organics, the WWTP effluent affected the DO balance by shifting the metabolism from upstream autotrophy to downstream heterotrophy. Background: Studies in western countries have examined the specific vulnerability hypothesis of Dykman's theory of goal-orientation predispositions to depression through two-time point designs. The purpose of this prospective longitudinal study was to investigate the moderating effects of intrinsic and extrinsic goals on stress and depressive symptoms in Chinese undergraduate students. Methods: A total of 462 undergraduate students [46 % female; mean age, 19.06 (range, 17-22) years] completed self-reported measures assessing intrinsic and extrinsic goals, depressive symptoms, and the occurrence of social and academic hassles. Every 3 months over the subsequent 12 months, the undergraduate students completed measures assessing depressive symptoms and the occurrence of daily hassles. Results: Results of hierarchical linear modeling analyses indicated that undergraduate students with low levels of intrinsic goals reported greater depressive symptoms following the occurrence of social and academic hassles than did those with high levels of such goals. However, undergraduate students with high levels of extrinsic goals did not report greater depressive symptoms following the occurrence of social and academic hassles than did those possessing low levels. Conclusions: These findings suggest that intrinsic goals can protect undergraduate students experiencing high levels of social and academic hassles from depressive symptoms. The study findings provide new insight into the course of depressive symptoms among undergraduate students, and offer psychologist and psychiatrists ways to protect individuals from depressive symptoms by building up intrinsic goals. Introduction: Reference intervals (RIs) for younger population may not apply to the elderly population. The aim of this study was to establish gender- and age-specific RIs for serum liver function tests among the elderly population and to compare with younger population RIs currently used in China and other countries. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective study, and subjects (= 18 year-old) were recruited from the laboratory information system (LIS) at the First Hospital of Jilin University between April 2020 and April 2021. The following parameters were collected: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), total bilirubin (TBIL), and direct bilirubin (DBIL). The Tukey method was used to eliminate outliers. Reference intervals were established by the nonparametric method. Results: A total of 23,597 healthy individuals were enrolled in the study. From all parameters AST, ALT, TP and ALB required no gender partition, while ALT, GGT, TP, ALB and DBIL required different partitions for age. Activities and concentrations of ALT, ALB, and TP showed a downward trend in the elderly aged 60-89. In contrast, DBIL showed a gradual upward trend. Conclusion: The RIs for liver function tests among healthy elderly population were different from those among young population in China. There were apparent gender and age differences in the RIs of liver function for elderly and significant differences compared with national standards and RIs in other countries. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether use, duration, and types of early antibiotics were associated with neonatal outcomes and late antibiotic use in preterm infants without infection-related diseases. METHODS: This cohort study enrolled infants admitted to 25 tertiary NICUs in China within 24 hours of birth during 2015-2018. Death, discharge, or infection-related morbidities within 7 days of birth; major congenital anomalies; and error data on antibiotic use were excluded. The composite outcome was death or adverse morbidities. Late antibiotic use indicated antibiotics used after 7 days of age. Late antibiotic use rate was total antibiotic use days divided by the days of hospital stay after the first 7 days of life. RESULTS: Among 21 540 infants, 18 302 (85.0%) received early antibiotics. Early antibiotics was related to increased bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.28; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.05-1.56), late antibiotic use (aOR, 4.64; 95% CI, 4.19-5.14), and late antibiotic use rate (adjusted mean difference, 130 days/1000 patient-days; 95% CI, 112-147). Each additional day of early antibiotics was associated with increased BPD (aOR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.04-1.10) and late antibiotic use (aOR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.39-1.43). Broad-spectrum antibiotics showed larger effect size on neonatal outcomes than narrow-spectrum antibiotics. The correlation between early antibiotics and outcomes was significant among noncritical infants but disappeared for critical infants. CONCLUSIONS: Among infants without infection, early antibiotic use was associated with increased risk of BPD and late antibiotic use. Judicious early antibiotic use, especially avoiding prolonged duration and broad-spectrum antibiotics among noncritical infants, may improve neonatal outcomes and overall antibiotic use in NICUs. BACKGROUND: Risk stratification of patients with cervical cancer accompanied by positive lymph nodes (stage IIIC) (the 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics [FIGO] new staging system) yields a clinically heterogeneous group. In this study, we investigated the prognostic performance of the 2018 FIGO staging system for stage IIIC cervical cancer. METHODS: The study included patients with stage III cervical cancer based on the 2018 FIGO staging system, who visited Chongqing University Cancer Hospital between January 2011 and December 2014. Kaplan-Meier curves were generated to evaluate overall survival (OS), which was compared using the log-rank test. The Cox proportional hazard regression model was used for multivariable analysis. RESULTS: A total of 418 patients were eligible for analysis. The 5-year OS was 54.1% for stage IIIC1, 43.3% for stage IIIA, 40.6% for stage IIIB, and 23.1% for stage IIIC2 (P < .001). Multivariable analysis revealed that compared with stages IIIA (hazard ratio [HR] 1.432, 95% con- fidence interval [CI] 0.867-2.366, P = .161) and IIIB (HR 1.261, 95% CI 0.871-1.827, P = .219), stage IIIC1 cancer was not significantly associated with an increased mortality risk. Stage IIIC2 was independently associated with an increased mortality risk compared with stages IIIA (HR 2.958, 95% CI 1.757-4.983, P < .001) and IIIB (HR 2.606, 95% CI 1.752-3.877, P < .001). We stratified patients with stage IIIC1 based on the T stage. The 5-year OS was significantly longer in patients with stage IIIC1 (T1) than in those with stage IIIA (P = .004) or IIIB (P < .001). Analysis of multiple factors revealed that the mortality risk was 2.75-fold higher in patients with stage IIIC1pN>2 than in patients with stage IIIC1pN1-2 (HR 2.753, 95% CI 1.527-4.965, P = .001). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with stage IIIC1 cervical cancer showed heterogeneous clinical characteristics that reflected variable prognoses, depending on the T stage and the extent of pelvic lymph node metastases. Objective: We aimed to assess the efficacy of applying a two-stage primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with an antibiotic-laden cement spacer block to treat infected osteoarthritic knees.Methods: This retrospective study included 17 cases of severely infected osteoarthritic knees treated with two-stage primary TKA. Open debridement and irrigation with insertion of a well-designed antibiotic cement spacer was performed as the first stage. Systemic antibiotics were used in the interval period. Two-stage TKAs were performed after elimination of infection. The pre- and post-operative Hospital for Special Surgery Knee (HSS) score as well as range of motion (ROM) were assessed.Results: Elimination of infection was achieved in 16 patients. C-reactive protein returned to normal levels in an average of 3.4 wks (range, 1-7 wks), whereas erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) recovered in an average of 11.4 wks (range, 6-19 wks). The average interval between the two-stage operations was 16.8 wks (range, 10-27 wks). Compared with the pre-operative level, the mean HSS score had a substantial increase after the first-stage and second-stage surgery (p<0.05). The post-operative maximum extension degree was smaller and the maximum flexion and ROM degree were larger than the pre-operative degree (all p<0.05). There were no recurrent infections and no patients lost to follow-up. One patient chose to receive arthrodesis because of uncontrolled infection after numerous operations and treatments.Conclusions: Two-stage TKA with open debridement, irrigation, and insertion of a well-designed antibiotic-laden cement spacer at the first stage could provide effective pain relief and function restoration as well as infection control in the interval. This treatment protocol provided an encouraging final clinical outcome, which could be a reliable alternative for patients with infected osteoarthritic knees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have investigated the antidiabetic effect and mechanism of methanolic extract of Berberis julianae Schneid. (BJSME) in STZ induced Type 2 diabetes mellitus mice. T2DM mice were induced by high fat diet and low dose streptozotocin (STZ). BJSME was orally administrated at the doses of 60, 120, and 240mg/kg/d, for 21 days.Metformin was used as positive control drug. Food intake, body weight, plasma glucose, oral glucose tolerance test, insulin tolerance test, insulin, and blood-lipid content weremeasured. The effects of BJSME on the glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) translocation in L6myotubes and the GLUT4 protein expression in skeletal muscle as well as phosphorylation of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in liver and muscle were examined. In vitro and in vivo results indicate that BJSME increased GLUT4 translocation by 1.8-fold and BJSME significantly improved the oral glucose tolerance and lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) of serumand reduced bodyweight, glucose, and other related blood-lipid contents.The BJSME treatment also stimulated the phosphorylation of AMPK.Thus, BJSME seems to possess promising beneficial effects for the treatment of T2DM with the possible mechanism via stimulating AMPK activity. Objectives: To summarize the clinical characteristics of patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant and explore the risk factors affecting the progression in a Fangcang hospital, Shanghai, China., Methods: A total of 25,207 patients were retrospectively enrolled. We described the clinical characteristics and performed univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify the risk factors for non-severe to severe COVID-19 or death., Results: According to the outcomes, there were 39 severe patients (including 1 death) and 25,168 non-severe patients enrolled in this study. Among the 25,207 cases, the median age was 45 years (IQR 33-54), and 65% patients were male. Cough (44.5%) and expectoration (38.4%) were the most two common symptoms. Hypertension (10.4%) and diabetes (3.5%) were most two common comorbidities. Most patients (81.1%) were fully vaccinated. The unvaccinated and partially vaccinated patients were 15.1% and 3.9%, respectively. The length of viral shedding time was six days (IQR 4-9) in non-severe patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that age (OR=1.062, 95%CI 1.034-1.090, p&lt;0.001), fever (OR=2.603, 95%CI 1.061-6.384, p=0.037), cough (OR=0.276, 95%CI 0.119-0.637, p=0.003), fatigue (OR=4.677, 95%CI 1.976-11.068, p&lt;0.001), taste disorders (OR=14.917, 95%CI 1.884-118.095, p=0.010), and comorbidity (OR=2.134, 95%CI 1.059-4.302, p=0.034) were predictive factors for deterioration of SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant infection., Conclusions: Non-critical patients have different clinical characteristics from critical patients. Parameters about composition of refuse such as mass percentage of biodegradable matter, volatile solid, organic carbon, cellulose, total sugar, and settlement were monitored and analyzed in a large-scale experimental unit. The empirical formulas between composition and refuse age were established in terms of the data obtained from the experimental unit and verified by comparing with the corresponding parameters of refuse in the closed landfill units from 1991 until 1994 in the Shanghai Laogang Municipal Landfill. Furthermore, the long-term prediction for the composition of refuse was made, and it was predicted that the half-life is 7 to 11 years for biodegradable matter, 9 to 12 years for organic carbon or volatile solid, 7 to 16 years for cellulose, and 4 to 6 years for total sugar. In addition, a mathematical model, based on the mechanism of refuse biodegradation in the landfill, was developed to simulate the relationship between the settlement and the refuse age and manifests the secondary settlement potential. The mathematical model was proved not only to be reliable but also should be accurate for predicting the settlement of the landfill. The secondary settlement, which mainly results from the slow and gradual biodegradation of refuse, is linear with respect to the exponent of refuse age. Finally, according to the settlement model and empirical biodegradation formulas, it may be predicted that, 79.4% of biodegradable matter, 92.9% of total sugar, 72.7% of volatile solid and organic carbon, and 73.1% of cellulose will be biodegraded and that 79% of the maximum secondary settlement potential will occur before the Shanghai Laogang Municipal Landfill is in a high stabilization situation, i.e., approximately 21 years after final closure.
