As part of government efficiency, government technical efficiency is the ratio of government inputs to outputs in supplying the basic public goods. Based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) method, this paper measures the provincial governments' technical efficiency in China during 2001-2009 by constructing a government input-output indicator system. The measurement shows that, at the overall level of the country, the government's high-tech efficiency reflects the stream- lining of administrative functions and efficiency wage inputs; and the technical efficiency always has a significant difference between the provinces during the period. Furthermore, most of the provincial governments' technical efficiency is increasing but one of the eastern and middle regions is relatively higher than that of the western region.
