This paper investigates the impact of volatility in profitability shock, capital price distortion and adjustment costs on capital misallocation among Chinese industrial firms. We estimate a dynamic model pertaining firms' investment decision, incorporating institutional differences between state and private firms, so the model can reproduce salient features observed from Chinese firms. Our analysis shows: (i) capital price distortion is more severe among state firms than private ones; (ii) adjusting capital is more costly for state than private firms; (iii) volatility in profitability shock is a major source that causes capital misallocation for both types of firms. In contrast to the 'community lost' argument describing the changing local social order in urban China, an increasing amount of local civic action is occurring in newly built Chinese commodity housing estates through the application of local social networks and capital, enabling the development of local community life. On the basis of the key themes underlying local civic action, in this study we develop a theoretical framework linking the application and development of local social networks and capital through multiple civic action steps by applying a dichotomised definition of social networks and considering the involvement of multiple stakeholders within China's institutions. In a case study of a newly built Chinese commodity housing estate, we used interviews and questionnaires to identify social changes in the neighbourhood inspired by civic action that promotes place attachment, mutual trust and civic responsibility. The development of local community life is created in a heterogeneous neighbourhood, and the influence of civic action on the local social order is reflected within the Chinese context. Aim: There are still patients of stage I lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) suffering from local or distant recurrence. Herein we conducted a meta‐analysis to investigate the prognostic value of tumor spread through air space (STAS), a new form of invasion pattern, in patients with pathologically confirmed stage I lung ADC. Methods: Related literature was searched using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases from the inception dates to September 4, 2021. Recurrence‐free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were set as primary outcome endpoints. In addition, subgroup analyses on operation mode, edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer TNM staging, sample size, and research regions were also investigated. Results: A total of 17 studies involving 9785 patients were included. The presence of STAS was detected in 31.2% of patients and was associated with poor RFS (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] = 1.93, p < 0.001) and OS (HR = 2.02, p < 0.001). In subgroup analysis on operation mode, the prognostic value of STAS was prominently shown in patients who underwent limited resection (RFS: HR = 3.58, p < 0.001; OS: HR = 3.37, p < 0.001), while for patients who underwent lobectomy, adverse impact of STAS on RFS was observed (HR = 1.60, p = 0.019), but no significant difference was observed on OS (HR = 1.56, p = 0.061). The results fluctuated in different regions while other factors did not alter the independent predictive value of STAS. Conclusion: Tumor STAS should be considered as an adverse prognostic indicator for patients with stage I lung ADC, especially for those under limited resection. Objectives: To find out whether the Chinese version of Montreal Cognitive Assessment Basic (MoCA-BC) and its subtests could be applied in discrimination among cognitively normal controls (NC), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), mild and moderate Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), and furthermore, to determine the optimal cutoffs most sensitive to distinguish between them. Design: A cross-sectional validation study. Setting: Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, China. Participants: There was a total of 1,969 participants: individuals with MCI (n=663), mild (n=345), moderate (n=441) AD, and cognitively NC (n=520) were recruited from the Memory Clinic, Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, China. Measurements: Baseline MoCA-BC scores were collected from firsthand data. Two subtests were calculated from MoCA-BC: the Memory Index Score of MoCA-BC (MoCA-BC-MIS) and the Non-memory Index Score of MoCA-BC (MoCA-BC-NM).Results: MoCA-BC was an effective cognitive tool to discriminate among NC, MCI, mild and moderate AD in the Chinese elderly across all education groups, implying that it was efficient not only for detecting MCI, but for different severities of AD as well. For MCI screening, the total score of MoCA-BC (MoCA-BC-T) and MoCA-BC-MIS had similar high sensitivity and specificity. For discrimination among MCI, mild and moderate AD, the MoCA-BC-T and MoCA-BC-NM had similar performance. Background The echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like-4-anaplastic lymphoma kinase ( EML4- ALK) fusion gene defines a novel molecular subset of non-small-cell lung cancer ( NSCLC). However, the clinicopathological features of patients with the EML4- ALK fusion gene have not been defined completely. Methods Clinicopathological data of 200 Chinese patients with advanced NSCLC were analyzed retrospectively to explore their possible correlations with EML4- ALK fusions. Results The EML4- ALK fusion gene was detected in 56 (28.0%) of the 200 NSCLC patients, and undetected in 22 (11.0%) patients because of an insufficient amount of pathological tissue. The median age of the patients with positive and negative EML4- ALK was 48 and 55 years, respectively. Patients with the EML4- ALK fusion gene were significantly younger ( P < 0.001). The detection rate of the EML4- ALK fusion gene in patients who received primary tumor or metastatic lymph node resection was significantly higher than in patients who received fine-needle biopsy ( P = 0.003). The detection rate of the EML4- ALK fusion gene in patients with a time lag from obtainment of the pathological tissue to EML4- ALK fusion gene detection ≤48 months was significantly higher than in patients >48 months ( P = 0.020). The occurrence of the EML4- ALK fusion gene in patients with wild-type epidermal growth factor receptor ( EGFR) was significantly higher than in patients with mutant-type EGFR (42.5% [37/87] vs. 6.3% [1/16], P = 0.005). Conclusions Younger age and wild-type EGFR were identified as clinicopathological characteristics of patients with advanced NSCLC who harbored the EML4- ALK fusion gene. Understanding the influences of climate change and human activities on vegetation change is the foundation for effective ecosystem management. Based on the 250 m MODIS-NDVI data from 2002 to 2020, we employed Theil-Sen Median trend analysis and the Mann-Kendall test to quantify vegetation change in Hunan Province. By combining with meteorological, nighttime light index, land cover and other data, residual analysis and correlation analysis, we examined the impacts of human activities and climate change on vegetation dynamics at both the pixel level and the county level. The results showed that the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in Hunan Province exhibited a spatial pattern of "overall improvement with localized degradation" during 2002-2020. Approximately 64.9% of the study area experienced significant vegetation improvement, mainly occurring in the western and central-southern parts of Hunan Province. 1.4% of the study area experienced significant vegetation degradation, mostly in the newly developed urban areas and the farmland in the Dongting Lake Plain. Human activities and climate change jointly promoted vegetation improvement in 67.9% of the study area. Human activities and climate contributed to 96% and 4% of the NDVI change, respectively. At the county level, human activities contributed to over 80% of the NDVI change in each district or county. The impacts of human activities on vegetation change exhibited significant spatial heterogeneity. Urban expansion led to vegetation degradation in the newly developed areas, while vegetation growth appeared in the old developed urban areas. The ecological restoration projects promoted vegetation restoration in the western part of Hunan Province. This study could help us better understand the spatiotemporal variations of vegetation and their responses to climate change and human activities, which would offer scientific basis for effective ecological restoration policy.

Purpose: To investigate the diagnostic value of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) and Inhibin B (InhB) in menopausal women with osteoporosis from the Chinese Daur ethnic group., Methods: A total of 175 menopausal women were selected and divided into the osteoporosis group ( N = 90) and the control group ( N = 85). BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, and laboratory indicators of osteoporosis, for example, serum osteocalcin (OC), β-collagen special sequence (β-CTX), and procollagen type I amino-terminal propeptide (PINP), bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP), AMH, and InhB were measured by commercial kits. The relationship between osteoporosis and AMH or InhB was analyzed. The predictive values of AMH and InhB were reflected by the ROC curve and logistic regression., Results: The level of BMD was decreased and the levels of OC, β-CTX, PINP, and BALP of the menopausal osteoporosis group were increased. The concentration of AMH and InhB in the menopausal osteoporosis group was decreased and they had connections with each other. AMH and InhB could be used as independent indicators for the occurrence of osteoporosis in menopausal women and their combination had a higher diagnostic value., Conclusion: AMH and InhB measurements in menopausal women had a certain clinical significance in the detection of osteoporosis. To screen out sweet-waxy maize varieties with low accumulation characteristics suitable for planting in lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) complex contaminated soils, 39 maize varieties were selected, and the enrichment characteristics and differences of grains and straws on Pb and Cd were studied through field trials. Maize yield, bioaccumulation factors, and soil Pb and Cd risk thresholds were used as evaluation indicators for screening low accumulation maize varieties. The results showed that there were significant differences between the yield and Pb and Cd contents in grains and straws of different varieties of maize ( P <0.05). Bioaccumulation factors of grains for Pb and Cd were in the range of 0.00003-0.00230 and 0.01-0.15, respectively, and those of straws for Pb and Cd were in the range of 0.003-0.065 and 0.64-4.28, respectively. Through the cluster analysis of bioaccumulation factors, the soil Pb and Cd risk thresholds of different varieties of maize were comprehensively obtained:Huitian 5, Xinmeitian 818, and Yunuo 9 could be safely produced in the farmland with Pb and Cd content exceeding the risk control value, and Tianguinuo 937 and Jinwannuo 2000 could be safely produced in the farmland with Cd content exceeding the risk screening value. Huitian 5, Xinmeitian 818, and Yunuo 9, as low Pb and Cd accumulation varieties, were suitable to be popularized on Pb and Cd polluted soil in Guangxi, China. Tianguinuo 937 and Jinwannuo 2000, as low grain and high Cd accumulation varieties, are suggested to be used as phytoremediation resources.

In order to explore the migration and transformation characteristics of soil heavy metals in rice in an area of ground source cadmium anomaly and to evaluate the safe planting of rice, a total of 91 pairs of soil and rice samples were collected from paddy fields in the typical area of Liuzhou city, Guangxi province, and the contents of heavy metals such as Cd, soil pH, and organic matter were tested. The results showed that:① Cd, Cu, Ni, and Zn in the paddy field exceeded the background values of 92.31%, 34.07%, 36.26%, and 90.11%, respectively. Compared with the screening values in the Soil Environmental Quality Agricultural Land Soil Pollution Risk Control Standard, Cd and Zn exceeded 30.53% and 25.26%, respectively. Super standard points were mainly distributed in Fushi Town. ② Cd and Ni exceeded 35.16% and 3.30%, respectively, and Daliang town had the highest Cd enrichment coefficient and Cd exceeded rate. ③ Correlation analysis showed that soil pH was the main influencing factor of heavy metals in rice, and Cd and Ni had similar pollution sources in rice. ④ The results of rice health risk assessment showed that the THQ value of rice Cd in Daliang town was greater than 1.0, indicating the potential health risk of rice Cd in this area. The TTHQ values were all greater than 1.0, indicating that the risks to children were higher than those to adult women, which were higher than those of adult men, showing that reasonable dietary structure is crucial to prevent heavy metal intake in different ages and genders. Therefore, there are certain risks in rice planting in the Liuzhou area of ground source cadmium anomaly, which need to be controlled using different safety utilization measures.

Background: Escherichia coli are mostly commensals but also contain pathogenic lineages. It is largely unclear whether the commensal E. coli as the potential origins of pathogenic lineages may consist of monophyletic or polyphyletic populations, elucidation of which is expected to lead to novel insights into the associations of E. coli diversity with human health and diseases., Methods: Using genomic sequencing and pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) techniques, we analyzed E. coli from the intestinal microbiota of three groups of healthy individuals, including preschool children, university students, and seniors of a longevity village, as well as colorectal cancer (CRC) patients, to probe the commensal E. coli populations for their diversity., Results: We delineated the 2280 fresh E. coli isolates from 185 subjects into distinct genome types (genotypes) by PFGE. The genomic diversity of the sampled E. coli populations was so high that a given subject may have multiple genotypes of E. coli, with the general diversity within a host going up from preschool children through university students to seniors. Compared to the healthy subjects, the CRC patients had the lowest diversity level among their E. coli isolates. Notably, E. coli isolates from CRC patients could suppress the growth of E. coli bacteria isolated from healthy controls under nutrient-limited culture conditions., Conclusions: The coexistence of multiple E. coli lineages in a host may help create and maintain a microbial environment that is beneficial to the host. As such, the low diversity of E. coli bacteria may be associated with unhealthy microenvironment in the intestine and hence facilitate the pathogenesis of diseases such as CRC.

Objectives: Patients' stress and satisfaction concerning cancer clinical trials (CCT) may affect study accrual and quality. Our study aimed to evaluate stress and satisfaction in CCT and the influencing factors., Design: Cross-sectional analysis done by a questionnaire after informed consent., Setting: Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences., Participants: 199 CCT participants. Primary and secondary outcome measures self-assessed stress and satisfaction in CCT., Results: Among 199 participants, 83.9% would join CCT again; 72.9% had enough time to decide on trial participation; 73.9% claimed complete awareness of CCT; 3.5% doubted CCT's significance and scientific quality; 33.2% deemed CCT time-consuming; 73.9% scored satisfaction ≥9/10; and 25.6% claimed moderate to severe stress. Positive factors for satisfaction were enough decision time (OR=0.36, p=0.0003), better impressions of doctors (OR=0.41, p=0.047) and less time-consuming trials (OR=0.43, p<0.0001). Individuals with more prior uninsured medical expenses (OR=1.23, p=0.026), less time consumption (OR=2.35, p<0.0001) and more tests in CCT (OR=0.64, p=0.035) were less likely to experience stress. Phase III study participants bore less stress than phase II (OR=0.29, p=0.032) but more than phase I (OR=1.18, p=0.009)., Conclusions: Our study addressed factors influencing CCT participants' stress and satisfaction.
