Tracing coupled ocean closure and intra-continental orogenic processes using tectonomagmatic thermal events is important for performing plate reconstructions. In this study, we collected geochronological data obtained from Jurassic–Early Cretaceous volcanic sequences in the Great Xing apos; an Range (GXR) and compared and merged the data to obtain a better understanding of the timing of volcanism in the GXR. Jurassic–Early Cretaceous volcanism, which is mainly represented by the Tamulangou, Manketouebo, and Manitu formations, are ubiquitous in the GXR and do not contain a magmatic hiatus. Thus, 'diachronous' volcanism did not occur in the GXR. The volcanic sequences in these formations are also slightly ambiguous and therefore cannot be used to determine the timing of volcanism. However, absolute ages and rock assemblages can provide better constraints on this timing. Combined with data from Jurassic–Early Cretaceous tectonomagmatic thermal events in Mongolia, Siberia, and NE China, we re-evaluated the influences of the Jurassic–Early Cretaceous closure of the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean (MOO), as well as the subduction and rollback of the Izanagi Plate, at different times in the GXR. The GXR likely underwent flat-slab subduction during the Late Jurassic–early Cretaceous as the MOO closed in an irregular 'scissor-like' fashion (i.e. not in a progressive west to east manner). Large-scale lithospheric delamination likely led to a large pulse of magmatism and mineralisation in the GXR during the late Early Cretaceous. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Triassic magmatism in Northeast (NE) China was geodynamically controlled by the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean (MOO), Palaeo-Asian Ocean (PAO), and Palaeo-Pacific Ocean (PPO) tectonic regimes. To define the mechanisms of crustal accretion and geodynamics, the magmatic processes generated by ocean closure and plate subduction must be determined. In the present study, we assembled geochronological, geochemical, Cu (Mo)-porphyry deposit, and zircon Hf isotopic data from magmatic rocks throughout NE China. Central-NE China harbours more reworking of juvenile continental crustal material than the NE China margin. The widespread Triassic felsic magmas in NE China are primarily due to the recycling of juvenile and ancient crustal components during the tectonic evolution of the PAO. During the Triassic, NE China was subjected to a syn- to post-collisional orogenic regime accompanied by scissor-like basin closure and bidirectional subduction of the eastern PAO, before transitioning to the PPO tectonic regime in the latest Triassic. Magmatism in the Erguna and the central–northern Xing'an blocks was more affected by the MOO tectonic regime. Magmatism in the central–southern Xing'an Block, the southwestern Songliao Basin, and northern Lesser Xing'an–Zhangguangcai Range was linked to the closure of the PAO. Triassic magmatic rocks along the eastern Songliao Basin are extensional and formed during the opening of the Mudanjiang Ocean. The central Great Xing'an Range contains widespread exposures of Mesozoic igneous rocks, yet the origin of its Late Mesozoic volcanic rocks has long been controversial. They are composed of andesite, trachyte, trachyandesite, trachydacite, rhyolite, and minor basaltic andesite. The intermediate rocks are enriched in large ion lithophiles and light rare earth elements (LILEs and LREEs) and are depleted in high field strength elements (HFSEs) such as Nb, Ta, and Ti, with positive εHf(t) values (+6.2 to +13.4) and Hf single-stage model ages (TDM1 = 556–227 Ma). This indicates that they were derived from the partial melting of a mantle wedge that was modified by previously subducted slab-derived fluids was likely introduced with limited crustal contamination. The felsic rocks show positive εHf(t) values (+4.3 to +10.2) and Hf two-stage model ages (TDM2 = 910–544 Ma), with more enrichment of LILEs and LREEs and more depletion of HFSEs and negative Eu anomalies. This indicates that felsic rocks were mainly derived from partial melting of Neoproterozoic accreted quartz-amphibolite facies mafic crust. We summarise the geochronological and Hf-Nd isotope data for Mesozoic igneous rocks within the central Great Xing'an Range (CGXR), the northern Xing'an block (NXB), and the Erguna block (EB), with the aim of constraining the geochronological framework for Mesozoic volcanism and comparing the growth of continental crust. The evolution of Late Mesozoic magmatism in the three areas reached its climax ~125 Ma ago. Our data, together with regional isotope evidence, suggest that crustal accretion of the CGXR occurred during the Neoproterozoic–Phanerozoic. However, that of the EB occurred during the Meso- to Neoproterozoic. The EB exhibits more lateral and vertical heterogeneities and ancient continental crust than the CGXR and NXB in the northern magma source region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we report on LA‐ICP‐MS zircon U–Pb dates of 14 Mesozoic volcanic rocks from the central Great Xing'an Range (CGXR). These data are integrated with the temporal and spatial distribution of local magmatism‐related Mesozoic mineralization, in an effort to develop an understanding of the geodynamic evolution of the region. Periodic magmatic events in the GXR date from ~1,703 through ~145 Ma. Mesozoic volcanism in the CGXR can be subdivided into three episodes: Triassic (250–205 Ma), Early–Middle Jurassic (182–165 Ma), and Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous (155–115 Ma). A revision of the previously defined volcanic sequence is offered using a combination of our zircon U–Pb ages and published Mesozoic geological and geophysical evidence from northeast China. We propose that (a) Early–Middle Triassic volcanism in the CGXR resulted from subduction of the Paleo‐Asian oceanic plate; (b) Late Triassic volcanism was related to subduction of the Mongol–Okhotsk oceanic plate (especially near the Erguna Block) and subsequent extension after the closure of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean; (c) Early–Middle Jurassic volcanism was mainly controlled by the southward subduction of the Mongol–Okhotsk oceanic plate; (d) Late Jurassic–initial Early Cretaceous magmatism was initiated by closure of the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean; and (e) late Early Cretaceous volcanism was induced following the final closure of the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean and rollback of the Paleo‐Pacific oceanic plate. Mesozoic mantle-derived potassic magmatic rocks in the Trans-North China Orogen (TNCO) are important for constraining tectonic evolution. However, potassic intermediate plutons in this orogen are rarely reported in literature, despite the significance of such a potassic magmatic event being well understood. Here, we describe the petrography of the Longmen potassic diorites and present zircon U–Pb ages and elemental and Sr–Nd–Mg isotopic compositions for this pluton. The Longmen potassic diorites were emplaced during the Early Cretaceous (ca. 140 Ma), showing shoshonite features with marked depletion of high-field strength elements relative to large ion lithophile elements with a slightly negative Eu anomaly. It possesses restricted ranges of initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.70592 to 0.70667), ε Nd (t) values (−15.86 to −13.26), and low δ26Mg (−0.37 to −0.26‰). Low-degree partial melting of the ancient and enriched mantle, characterised by amphibole-bearing lherzolite in the spinel–garnet transition zone, was the likely mantle source of the evaluated Longmen potassic diorites, resulting from fluid-related metasomatism and upwelling mantle (carbonated) peridotite. Minor crustal materials were present in the lithospheric mantle because of Eastern Block and Western Block subduction/collision during the Paleoproterozoic. Based on our data and previous studies, slab sinking and rollback of the Izanagi plate (Paleo-Pacific plate) may have created an ancient, enriched mantle beneath the East Asian continent, inducing lithospheric thinning and heterogeneity of the lithospheric mantle in the North China Craton and lithospheric extension via thermo-mechanical erosion at 145–110 Ma in the TNCO. This study presents new zircon U–Pb ages, Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic data, and whole‐rock geochemical data obtained from the Early Cretaceous volcanic rocks from the north‐western Great Xing'an Range, Northeast China, to constrain the late Mesozoic magmatism and geodynamic setting of this region, which is located in the eastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). Zircon U–Pb age determinations show that the studied samples formed at 124–114 Ma with an Early Cretaceous magmatic event produced voluminous felsic and minor mafic volcanic rocks. The mafic rocks are dominantly basalt and basaltic andesite, with relatively low SiO2 contents (49.88–56.64 wt.%). These rocks are enriched in Th, U, large‐ion lithophile elements (LILE; e.g., Rb, Ba, and K) and light rare‐earth elements (REEs), and depleted in high‐field‐strength elements (HFSE; e.g., Nb, Ta, and Ti) and heavy REEs (Yb and Lu). The rocks have εNd(t) values of 0.44–0.75 and initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.70499–0.70548. These results indicate that the mafic rocks were derived from the partial melting of enriched lithospheric mantle that had been previously metasomatized by subduction‐related fluids and experienced variable amounts of fractional crystallization and moderate crustal contamination. In contrast to the mafic rocks, the felsic rocks are dominantly peraluminous trachytes, rhyolites, and dacites with high SiO2 contents and low MgO contents. These felsic rocks display enriched and variable concentrations of LILEs and REEs, show negative Eu anomalies, and have εHf(t) values of +2.6 to +8.3 with TDM2 ages of 1,014–655 Ma, indicating they were derived from partial melting of juvenile crustal materials. These Early Cretaceous igneous rock assemblages record a post‐collisional lithospheric extensional setting resulting from the closure of the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean, consistent with the results of previous studies on the contemporaneous tectono‐magmatic activities in NE China.
