Abstract

The article presents a study which compares the reading performance of primary students in Hong Kong, China with that in developed countries around the world. Highlights of the study include student factors that influence achievement, reading habits of students outside school, and home reading activities. Details on the objective of the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), Students' Attitudes Toward Reading (SATR) and Students' Reading Self-Concept (SRSC) are also considered.
