Background and Aims Understanding adaptive genetic variation and whether it can keep pace with predicted future climate change is critical in assessing the genetic vulnerability of species and developing conservation management strategies. The lack of information on adaptive genetic variation in relict species carrying abundant genetic resources hinders the assessment of genetic vulnerability. Using a landscape genomics approach, this study aimed to determine how adaptive genetic variation shapes population divergence and to predict the adaptive potential of Pterocarya macroptera (a vulnerable relict species in China) under future climate scenarios. Methods We applied restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) to obtain 8244 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from 160 individuals across 28 populations. We examined the pattern of genetic diversity and divergence, and then identified outliers by genetic differentiation (F ST) and genotype–environment association (GEA) methods. We further dissected the effect of geographical/environmental gradients on genetic variation. Finally, we predicted genetic vulnerability and adaptive risk under future climate scenarios. Key Results We identified three genetic lineages within P. macroptera : the Qinling-Daba-Tianmu Mountains (QDT), Western Sichuan (WS) and Northwest Yunnan (NWY) lineages, which showed significant signals of isolation by distance (IBD) and isolation by environment (IBE). IBD and IBE explained 3.7–5.7 and 8.6–12.8 % of the genetic structure, respectively. The identified GEA SNP-related genes were involved in chemical defence and gene regulation and may exhibit higher genetic variation to adapt to the environment. Gradient forest analysis revealed that the genetic variation was mainly shaped by temperature-related variables, indicating its adaptation to local thermal environments. A limited adaptive potential was suggested by the high levels of genetic vulnerability in marginal populations. Conclusions Environmental gradient mainly shaped the population differentiation of P. macroptera. Marginal populations may be at high risk of extinction, and thus proactive management measures, such as assisted gene flow, are required to ensure the survival of these populations. We aimed to assess the feasibility and superiority of machine learning (ML) methods to predict the risk of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACEs) in chest pain patients with NSTE-ACS. Enrolled chest pain patients were from two centers, Beijing Anzhen Emergency Chest Pain Center Beijing Bo'ai Hospital, China Rehabilitation Research Center. Five classifiers were used to develop ML models. Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F-Measure and AUC were used to assess the model performance and prediction effect compared with HEART risk scoring system. Ultimately, ML model constructed by Naïve Bayes was employed to predict the occurrence of MACEs. According to learning metrics, ML models constructed by different classifiers were superior over HEART (History, ECG, Age, Risk factors, & Troponin) scoring system when predicting acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and all-cause death. However, according to ROC curves and AUC, ML model constructed by different classifiers performed better than HEART scoring system only in prediction for AMI. Among the five ML algorithms, Linear support vector machine (SVC), Naïve Bayes and Logistic regression classifiers stood out with all Accuracy, Precision, Recall and F-Measure from 0.8 to 1.0 for predicting any event, AMI, revascularization and all-cause death (vs. HEART ≤ 0.78), with AUC from 0.88 to 0.98 for predicting any event, AMI and revascularization (vs. HEART ≤ 0.85). ML model developed by Naïve Bayes predicted that suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS), abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG), elevated hs-cTn I, sex and smoking were risk factors of MACEs. Compared with HEART risk scoring system, the superiority of ML method was demonstrated when employing Linear SVC classifier, Naïve Bayes and Logistic. SUMMARY: Flowering cherry is a very popular species around the world. High‐quality genome resources for different elite cultivars are needed, and the understanding of their origins and the regulation of key ornamental traits are limited for this tree. Here, a high‐quality chromosome‐scale genome of Prunus campanulata 'Plena' (PCP), which is a native and elite flowering cherry cultivar in China, was generated. The contig N50 of the genome was 18.31 Mb, and 99.98% of its contigs were anchored to eight chromosomes. Furthermore, a total of 306 accessions of flowering cherry germplasm and six lines of outgroups were collected. Resequencing of these 312 lines was performed, and 761 267 high‐quality genomic variants were obtained. The origins of flowering cherry were predicted, and these 306 accessions could be classified into three clades, A, B and C. According to phylogenetic analysis, we predicted two origins of flowering cherry. Flowering cherry in clade A originated in southern China, such as in the Himalayan Mountains, while clades B and C originated in northeastern China. Finally, a genome‐wide association study of flower colour was performed for all 312 accessions of flowering cherry germplasm. A total of seven quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were identified. One gene encoding glycosylate transferase was predicted as the candidate gene for one QTL. Taken together, our results provide a valuable genomic resource and novel insights into the origin, evolution and flower colour variations of flowering cherry. Disentangling the numerous processes that affect patterns of genome‐wide diversity in widespread tree species has important implications for taxonomy, conservation, and forestry. Here, we investigate the population genomic structure of Asian white birch (Betula platyphylla) in China and seek to explain it in terms of hybridization, demography and adaptation. We generate whole genome sequence data from 83 individuals across the species range in China. Combining this with an existing data set for 79 European and Russian white birches, we show a clear distinction between B. pendula and B. platyphylla, which have sometimes been lumped taxonomically. Genomic diversity of B. platyphylla in north‐western China and Central Russia is affected greatly by hybridization with B. pendula. Excluding these hybridized populations, B. platyphylla in China has a linear distribution from north‐eastern to south‐western China, along the edge of the inland mountainous region. Within this distribution, three genetic clusters are found, which we model as long diverged with subsequent episodes of gene flow. Patterns of covariation between allele frequencies and environmental variables in B. platyphylla suggest the role of natural selection in the distribution of diversity at 7609 SNPs of which 3767 were significantly differentiated among the genetic clusters. The putative adaptive SNPs are distributed throughout the genome and span 1633 genic regions. Of these genic regions, 87 were previously identified as candidates for selective sweeps in Eurasian B. pendula. We use the 7609 environmentally associated SNPs to estimate the risk of nonadaptedness for each sequenced B. platyphylla individual under a scenario of future climate change, highlighting areas where populations may be under future threat from rising temperatures. SUMMARY: Structural variations (SVs) are critical factors affecting genome evolution and important traits. However, identification results and functional analyses of SVs in upland cotton are rare. Here, based on the genetic relationships, breeding history and cumulative planting area of upland cotton in China, nine predominant cultivars from the past 60 years (1950s–2010s) were selected for long read sequencing to uncover genic variations and breeding improvement targets for this crop. Based on the ZM24 reference genome, 0.88–1.47 × 104 SVs per cultivar were identified, and an SV set was constructed. SVs affected the expression of a large number of genes during fiber elongation, and a transposable element insertion resulted in the glandless phenotype in upland cotton. Six widespread inversions were identified based on nine draft genomes and high‐throughput chromosome conformation capture data. Multiple haplotype blocks that were always associated with aggregated SVs were demonstrated to play a pivotal role in the agronomic traits of upland cotton and drove its adaptation to the northern planting region. Exotic introgression was the source of these haplotype blocks and increased the genetic diversity of upland cotton. Our results enrich the genome resources of upland cotton, and the identified SVs will promote genetic and breeding research in cotton. Significance Statement: The present study uncovered structural variants in upland cottons, many of which affected gene expression in cotton fibers. A transposable element insertion resulting in the glandless phenotype was identified. Inversions affecting population differentiation and adaptation in upland cotton were identified. Background: The society is aging in China, and the cognitive level of elderly post-stroke patients gradually declines. Face-to-face cognitive functional training is no longer sufficient. Immersive virtual reality (IVR) is a promising rehabilitation training device. In this study, we developed an IVR-based puzzle game to explore its effectiveness, feasibility, and safety in elderly stroke patients with cognitive dysfunction. Methods: A total of 30 patients with mild post-stroke cognitive impairment after stroke were randomly assigned to a control or IVR group. Patients in both groups received routine rehabilitation therapy. Patients in the control group received traditional cognitive training, and those in the IVR group received IVR-based puzzle game therapy. Before and after treatment, Montreal cognitive assessment (MOCA), trail-making test-A (TMT-A), digit symbol substitution test (DSST), digital span test (DST), verbal fluency test (VFT), and modified Barthel index (MBI) were evaluated in both groups. In addition, the IVR group was administered a self-report questionnaire to obtain feedback on user experience. Results: There was no significant difference in the baseline data between the two groups. After six weeks of treatment, the cognitive assessment scores were improved in both groups. Moreover, the IVR group showed more improvements than the control group in the DSST (Z = 2.203, p = 0.028 < 0.05, η2 = 0.16); MOCA (T = 1.186, p = 0.246 > 0.05, d = 0.44), TMT-A (T = 1.791, p = 0.084 > 0.05, d = 0.65), MBI (T = 0.783, p = 0.44 > 0.05, d = 0.28), FDST (Z = 0.78, p = 0.435 > 0.05, η2 = 0.02), BDST (Z = 0.347, p = 0.728 > 0.05, η2 = 0.004), and VFT(Z = 1.087, p = 0.277 > 0.05, η2 = 0.039) did not significantly improve. The significant difference in DSST represents an improvement in executive function and visual–spatial cognitive characteristics. The other assessment scores did not show such features. Therefore, we did not observe significant differences through this measure. According to the results of the self-report questionnaire, most of the patients were satisfied with the equipment stability and training content. Several individuals reported mild adverse reactions. Conclusions: This pilot study suggests that IVR-based puzzle games are a promising approach to improve post-stroke cognitive function, especially executive cognitive function, and visual–spatial attention in older adults. Background and Aims Delineating closely related and morphologically similar species is difficult. Here, we integrate morphology, genetics, ploidy and geography to resolve species and subspecies boundaries in four trees of section Costatae (genus Betula): Betula ashburneri , B. costata , B. ermanii and B. utilis , as well as multiple subspecies and polyploid races. Methods We genotyped 371 individuals (20–133 per species) from 51 populations at 15 microsatellite markers, as well as a subset of individuals, using restriction-site associated DNA sequencing and nuclear internal transcribed spacers. We determined the ploidy level of eight individuals using flow cytometry and characterized leaf variation for a subset of 109 individuals by morphometric analysis. Key Results Integration of multiple lines of evidence suggested a series of revisions to the taxonomy of section Costatae. Betula costata and B. ermanii were found to be valid. Molecular and leaf morphology analyses revealed little differentiation between diploid B. albosinensis and some samples of B. utilis ssp. utilis. By contrast, other B. utilis ssp. utilis samples and ssp. albosinensis formed a morphological continuum but differed based on genetics. Specifically, B. utilis ssp. albosinensis was divided into two groups with group I genetically similar to B. utilis ssp. utilis and group II, a distinct cluster, proposed as the new diploid species Betula buggsii sp. nov. Phylogenomic analysis based on 2285 620 single nucleotide polymorphisms identified a well-supported monophyletic clade of B. buggsii. Morphologically, B. buggsii is characterized by elongated lenticels and a distinct pattern of bark peeling and may be geographically restricted to the Qinling–Daba Mountains. Conclusions Our integrated approach identifies six taxa within section Costatae : B. ashburneri , B. buggsii , B. costata , B. utilis ssp. utilis , B. utilis ssp. albosinensis and B. ermanii. Examining how economic infrastructure affects China's industrial energy efficiency (EE) convergence is critical in the process of overall industrial EE improvement, especially under the background of promoting equitable growth and developing a modernized economy. Based on panel data from 30 China's provinces between 2000 and 2017, this paper explores the existence of industrial EE convergence and examines the influence of economic infrastructure on industrial EE convergence in China and three different regions. The results show clear evidence of convergence in industrial EE for China and the three regions, indicating that the lagging provinces tend to catch up with the advanced ones in the long term. The catch-up speed from the western region is the highest, followed by the central and eastern region. Economic infrastructure has significant impacts on industrial EE convergence in China and the three regions, while the impacts of different types of infrastructure are divergent across region. Energy infrastructure is conducive to industrial EE convergence in the eastern and western region, whereas transport infrastructure makes a better performance in the central region. The Huoyanshan iron meteorite shower, recently found in the Gobi Desert of Hami, Xinjiang, China, has very high Ni (21.1 wt%) content and low Au (2.0 ppm), Ir (0.02 ppm), Ge (1.7 ppm), and Ga (1.1 ppm) contents, and was classified into IAB‐sLH subgroup. The iron has a finest octahedrite structure of Widmanstätten pattern (the intergrowth of kamacite [α] and taenite [γ]) with plessite matrix, and euhedral schreibersite (Sch) crystals exclusively enclosed in kamacite bands. The textural features suggest the following formation process: γ→γ + Sch→γ + Sch + α, and then γ→α2 + γ. The metallographic cooling rate of Huoyanshan iron was determined to be 3–50°C/Myr using both the taenite Ni profile‐matching and taenite central Ni content methods, with the bandwidths corrected for crystallographic orientation by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The cooling rate of Huoyanshan is consistent with other sLH irons and confirms the slow cooling history of the IAB low‐Au subgroups. These slow cooling rates require immediate re‐accretion with a thick brecciated fragments layer in the parent body after the impact melting event. The depleted but unfractionated Re, Os, Ir, Ru, and Pt and the enriched Pd and Au abundances of Huoyanshan iron and other sLH subgroup irons show complementary feature to that of refractory metal nuggets in Ca‐, Al‐rich inclusions (CAIs), which could be explained by extracting the metallic Fe‐Ni with HSE predominantly remained in CAIs from a CAI‐bearing asteroid. The very high Ni content of sLH subgroup and its Mo isotope evidence (Worsham et al., 2017, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.epsl.2017.02.044) suggest it has an oxidized parent body with non‐carbonaceous chondrite‐like precursor composition. We propose that the sLH subgroup was produced by impact melting of a LL like and CAI‐bearing asteroid, followed by fast burying of thick and porous silicate breccia. Plain Language Summary: Iron meteorites are the metal remnants of asteroids, and they were classified as magmatic and non‐magmatic. IAB complex is the major non‐magmatic irons and was divided into several subgroups. The metal‐silicate fractionation of the IAB complex was likely related with impact events in the early stage of the solar system. Here, we present the detailed petrography, trace element composition, and metallographic cooling rate of the Huoyanshan iron meteorite found recently, a new member of the IAB‐sLH subgroup, in order to reveal its petrogenesis, post‐impact thermal history and the geochemical features of its precursor parent body. Our results suggest that IAB low‐Au subgroups were buried by thick silicate breccia layers immediately after the impact events, in order to hold their slow metallographic cooling rates. The very high Ni contents, the highly siderophile element patterns, and the Mo isotopes of IAB‐sLH irons suggest a genetic relationship with an oxidized non‐carbonaceous chondritic asteroid. Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Western China. Preclinical studies have suggested the protective effect of the C-type lectin receptor of family 4 member E (CLEC4E) from TB. Herein, we investigated the association between CLEC4E gene variants and TB susceptibility in a western Chinese Han population.Methods: We genotyped four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs10841856, rs10770847, rs10770855 and rs4480590 in the CLEC4E gene using the improved multiplex ligation detection reaction (iMLDR) assay in 900 TB cases and 1534 healthy controls.Results: After stratifying the whole data by sex, it was found that males exhibited mutant allele G of rs10841856 was more strongly associated with increased TB risk after Bonferroni correction (OR = 1.334, 95% CI: 1.142-1.560; P < 0.001 after adjusting for age; p = 0.001 after Bonferroni correction). The genetic model analysis found that rs10841856 was associated with the increased risk of TB among males under the dominant model (OR = 1.557, 95% CI = 1.228-1.984, P < 0.001 after adjusting for age, P < 0.001 after Bonferroni correction). Bioinformatics analysis suggested that rs10841856 might fall in putative functional regions and might be the expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) for CLEC4E and long noncoding RNA RP11-561P12.5.Conclusions: Our study revealed that rs10841856 in the CLEC4E gene might be related to increased TB risk, especially the dominant genetic model among male Han individuals from Western China. Existing research on the relationship among corruption, energy efficiency, and industrial carbon emissions is limited, while incorporating them into one analytical framework might provide new insights for the mechanism between corruption and industrial carbon emissions. Using the provincial panel data in China's industry from 2005 to 2015, this study applies the System Generalized Method of Moments (SYS-GMM) to explore the impacts of corruption and energy efficiency on industrial carbon emissions. The results indicate that under current economic development status, the effects of corruption and energy efficiency on industrial carbon emissions are divergent; i.e., corruption can enhance carbon emissions, whereas energy efficiency facilitates carbon emission reduction. Energy efficiency plays a mediating role in the relationship between corruption and carbon emissions for both the whole sample and the sub-samples. In other words, corruption aggravates industrial carbon emissions through lowering energy efficiency. Additionally, for the eastern region in China, there is an inverted U-shaped curve relationship between corruption and carbon emissions, as well as a U-shaped curve relationship between energy efficiency and carbon emissions. The Sinacanthida ordo nov. and Mongolepidida are spine- and scale-based taxa whose remains encompass some of the earliest reported fossils of chondrichthyan fish. Investigation of fragmentary material from the Early Silurian Tataertag and Ymogantau Formations of the Tarim Basin (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China) has revealed a diverse mongolepidid and sinacanthid fauna dominated by mongolepids and sinacanthids in association with abundant dermoskeletal elements of the endemic 'armoured' agnathans known as galeaspids. Micro-computed tomography, scanning electron microscopy and histological sections were used to identify seven mongolepid genera (including Tielikewatielepis sinensis gen. et sp. nov., Xiaohaizilepis liui gen. et sp. nov. and Taklamakanolepis asiaticus gen. et sp. nov.) together with a new chondrichthyan (Yuanolepis bachunensis gen. et sp. nov.) with scale crowns consisting of a mongolepid-type atubular dentine (lamellin). Unlike the more elaborate crown architecture of mongolepids, Yuanolepis gen. nov. exhibits a single row of crown elements consistent with the condition reported in stem chondrichthyans from the Lower Devonian (e.g. in Seretolepis, Parexus). The results corroborate previous work by recognising lamellin as the main component of sinacanthid spines and point to corresponding developmental patterns shared across the dermal skeleton of taxa with lamellin and more derived chondrichthyans (e.g. Doliodus, Kathemacanthus, Seretolepis and Parexus). The Tarim mongolepid fauna is inclusive of coeval taxa from the South China Block and accounts for over two-thirds of the species currently attributed to Mongolepidida. Background and Aims Differences in local abundance and ploidy level are predicted to impact the direction of introgression between species. Here, we tested these hypotheses on populations of Betula albosinensis (red birch) and Betula platyphylla (white birch) which were thought to differ in ploidy level, the former being tetraploid and the latter diploid. Methods We sampled 391 birch individuals from nine localities in China, and classified them into species based on leaf morphology. Twelve nuclear microsatellite markers were genotyped in each sample, and analysed using principal coordinates analysis and STRUCTURE software. We compared the effects of two different methods of scoring polyploid genotypes on population genetic analyses. We analysed the effect of ploidy, local species abundance and latitude on levels of introgression between the species. Key Results Leaf morphology divided our samples into red and white birch, but genetic analyses unexpectedly revealed two groups within red birch, one of which was tetraploid, as expected, but the other of which appeared to have diploid microsatellite genotypes. Five individuals were identified as early-generation hybrids or backcrosses between white birch and red birch and five were identified between red birch and 'diploid' red birch. Cline analysis showed that levels of admixture were not significantly correlated with latitude. Estimated genetic differentiation among species was not significantly different between determined tetraploid and undetermined tetraploid genotypes. Conclusions Limited hybridization and gene flow have occurred between red birch and white birch. Relative species abundance and ploidy level do not impact the direction of introgression between them, as genetic admixture is roughly symmetrical. We unexpectedly found populations of apparently diploid red birch and this taxon may be a progenitor of allotetraploid red birch populations. Background Yellowhorn (Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge), a deciduous shrub or small tree native to north China, is of great economic value. Seeds of yellowhorn are rich in oil containing unsaturated long-chain fatty acids that have been used for producing edible oil and nervonic acid capsules. However, the lack of a high-quality genome sequence hampers the understanding of its evolution and gene functions. Findings In this study, a whole genome of yellowhorn was sequenced and assembled by integration of Illumina sequencing, Pacific Biosciences single-molecule real-time sequencing, 10X Genomics linked reads, Bionano optical maps, and Hi-C. The yellowhorn genome assembly was 439.97 Mb, which comprised 15 pseudo-chromosomes covering 95.42% (419.84 Mb) of the assembled genome. The repetitive fractions accounted for 56.39% of the yellowhorn genome. The genome contained 21,059 protein-coding genes. Of them, 18,503 (87.86%) genes were found to be functionally annotated with ≥1 "annotation" term by searching against other databases. Transcriptomic analysis showed that 341, 135, 125, 113, and 100 genes were specifically expressed in hermaphrodite flower, staminate flower, young fruit, leaf, and shoot, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that yellowhorn and Dimocarpus longan diverged from their most recent common ancestor ∼46 million years ago. Conclusions The availability and subsequent annotation of the yellowhorn genome, as well as the identification of tissue-specific functional genes, provides a valuable reference for plant comparative genomics, evolutionary studies, and molecular design breeding. BACKGROUND Osthol is a natural coumarin and lead compound that has been developed into commercial fungicides in China. Natural coumarins comprise five major subtypes: simple coumarins, linear furanocoumarins, angular furanocoumarins, linear pyranocoumarins and angular pyranocoumarins. Studies pertaining to the antifungal activities of linear pyranocoumarins are few, and no reports exist for the antifungal activities of angular pyranocoumarins. In order to discover more antifungal natural coumarins, we synthesised a series of simple natural coumarins and isolated several plant-based furanocoumarins and pyranocoumarins using previously described methods. The compounds were biologically evaluated against some plant fungal pathogens. RESULTS Several of the 35 coumarins evaluated here exhibited strong activities against specific fungal species, including compound 25 (Pd-D-V, a linear pyranocoumarin), compound 26 (libanorin, an angular furanocoumarin) and compound 34 (disenecioyl khellactone, an angular pyranocoumarin). Compound 25 exhibited a high activity against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum ( EC50 = 13.2 µg mL−1); compound 34 displayed a strong antifungal activity against Botrytis cinerea ( EC50 = 11.0 µg mL−1). CONCLUSION This study demonstrates that several natural coumarins (one linear pyranocoumarin and one angular pyranocoumarin in particular) exhibit strong antifungal activities. In July 2012, symptoms of irregular mosaic stripe and mottle were observed on maize leaves in field in Beijing, China. The causal pathogen was identified to be Cucumber mosaic virus ( CMV) based upon reverse transcription- PCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Western blotting and fulfilment of Koch's postulates. The isolate was named ZMBJ- CMV. Full sequence of ZMBJ- CMV RNA3 was determined, and it had the highest identity to that of strain K- CMV (95.03%) and SD- CMV (94.96%). Phylogenetic analysis revealed ZMBJ- CMV clustered with K- CMV and SD- CMV in subgroup IB. Acute renal failure (ARF) is a common complication in hospitalized patients, but little is known about the epidemiology of ARF in China. In this study, we performed a prospective examination of the cause, prognosis, and risk factors associated with ARF at a hospital in Shanghai, China. We considered all ARF patients who were admitted to our hospital from December 2003 to December 2006. Among the 320 ARF patients, 135 (42.2%) were over the age of 60. Sepsis, heart failure, and nephrotoxic drug use were the leading causes of ARF. The overall mortality rate was 31.9%, and mortality rate was significantly higher among the elderly. Logistic regression indicated that heart failure, respiratory failure, and malignant cancer were risk factors independently associated with poor prognosis. In this Shanghai hospital, there was a high incidence and mortality rate of patients hospitalized with ARF. The prognosis of patients who underwent renal replacement therapy was better than those who were treated more conservatively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• A method is developed to optimize landscape pattern in a valley level. • The method is applied in a GIAHS site for landscape and ecosystem conservation. • Ecological protection patches are much larger, with high connectivity. • The landscape pattern optimization planning map provides support to decision makers. The rice terrace agroecosystems in mountainous regions occupy an important position in regional sustainable development and cultural diversity; some of them are included in the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). Despite the considerable progress made in protecting these unique agroecosystems, the research for planners to limit properly protected areas systematically, considering both their aesthetic and ecological values, is insufficient. In this study, an overall protecting framework was developed at the spatial planning level by optimizing the landscape pattern. We considered Jiache Valley, the core area of Congjiang's Rice-Fish-Duck System rated in the GIAHS in 2011, as an example. Based on the indicators of visual sensitivity and ecological stability, we determined the protection scope of the core terrace area and performed a morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) to identify the core area of forest patches and corridor buffer zones. Then, an ecological network corridor was constructed with the minimum cumulative resistance model; finally, the landscape optimization pattern of Jiache Valley was determined. The proposed plan not only highlights the terrace patches individually, but it also systematically protects the components of the agroecosystem including water, forests, and fields, thereby making them sustainable and exert overall ecological effects. By optimizing the patches of different spatial types and developing land management strategies within variable protection levels, the sustainable development of Jiache Valley could be promoted. The method has high significance in the optimization of landscape planning and management of rice terrace agroecosystems; it can also serve as a reference for other types of agroecosystems. On the basis of well preserved specimens from the Lower Silurian of the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Shiqian County, Guizhou Province, People's Republic of China we describe in detail the histological structure of sinacanthid spines, the only known remains of a group of fishes common in Silurian strata from China. The sinacanthids have previously been assigned either to the acanthodians or to the chondrichthyans. The spine structure is composed of an outer layer of atubular dentine and an inner layer of globular calcified cartilage, and the nature and distribution of these tissues indicates that the spines were formed as a result of interaction between the endoskeleton and dermoskeleton. The tissue distribution and style of growth described herein places the sinacanthids crownwards of the placoderms, and possibly within the total group Chondrichthyes. A robust understanding of the effect of indigenous knowledge systems (IKSs) on spatial patterns of natural resource management (NRM) in mountain landscapes could contribute to fostering ecological sustainability and cultural diversity. This study addresses the mechanisms by which IKSs influence landscape through the management of various natural resources. Data was collected through multiple methods: in-depth interviews, a questionnaire survey, and spatial participatory mapping, in Jiabang region, Guizhou China. The results show that 1) local rice farming methods and livelihoods have influenced and been influenced by the creation and application of IKSs including resource management knowledge of the mountains, forests, water and agricultural resources; 2) the systems have shaped the communities' landscape and the resulting spatial diversity through the interlocking mediation of NRM with IKSs. This study also shows that IKSs continue to be transmitted well to the following generation. Based on these findings, the mechanism of the influence of IKSs on landscapes through NRM was discussed, and an ideal diagram of the sustainable landscape of the rice terraces was proposed. Transportation infrastructure plays an essential role in stimulating demand and booming economy in China. Meanwhile, evidence suggests that the development of transportation infrastructure and the resulting industrial agglomeration are highly associated with excessive energy consumption. Under the dual tasks of economic growth and environmental protection, we aim to investigate the mechanism by which transportation infrastructure and industrial agglomeration affect industrial energy efficiency in China. Based on panel data of China's 30 provincial-level regions from 2000 to 2017, we apply the threshold panel model to verify the nonlinear relationship between transportation infrastructure and industrial energy efficiency. The mediation model is also constructed to estimate the mediating effect of industrial agglomeration in the association between transportation infrastructure and energy efficiency. The results show that there exists a nonlinear relationship between transportation infrastructure and industrial energy efficiency. Transportation infrastructure positively affects industrial energy efficiency only when a certain threshold is exceeded. Also, industrial agglomeration functions as a mediator in the relationship between transportation infrastructure and energy efficiency, indicating that transportation infrastructure not only directly affects energy efficiency, but also exerts an indirect effect through industrial agglomeration. Infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) is a bi-segmented, double-stranded RNA virus that belongs to the genus Avibirnavirus of the family of Birnavirideae . The co-evolution of genome segments is a major evolutionary feature for IBDV. However, in recent years, some strains exhibited markedly different genetic relationships for segments A and B. In this study, we firstly isolated a new type of reassortment IBDV strain named IBD13HeB01 from northern China. The full-length genomes of segments A and B were cloned and identified. Sequence analysis revealed that IBD13HeB01 was a segment-reassortment strain, whose segment A was derived from very virulent strain and segment B from attenuated IBDV. In addition, the virulence of IBD13HeB01 strain was evaluated using SPF chickens. This study is not only beneficial for further understanding of the viral evolution but also suggests the potential risk of application of the live vaccines of IBDV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urban park green spaces (UPGS) constitute a vital component of urban ecosystems, and the unequal distribution of UPGS can significantly impact the well-being of residents. Therefore, investigating the spatial delineation methods of UPGS service levels from the perspective of opportunity equity contributes to enhancing people's quality of life and promoting social harmony. Taking the Yingze District of Taiyuan City as an example, this study uses a modified accessibility measurement method of UPGS with the smallest clustered unit (building) as the service demand point and the UPGS entrance/exit as the service provision point, to establish a micro-scale evaluation framework for spatial equity considering the service radius and service quality of UPGS. The findings are as follows: after setting different service radius for UPGS at different levels, additional areas not covered by UPGS service were identified compared to setting the same service radius uniformly, which could prevent these areas from being overlooked in urban plans. After considering the quality of UPGS services, additional areas with low and high UPGS service levels were identified. Accurate spatial delineation of UPGS service level can avoid wasting public resources by including areas with high service levels in the scope of new UPGS requirements, while areas with low service levels lose opportunities for consideration in future urban infrastructure planning. This study emphasizes the residents' demand for both the quantity and quality of UPGS, facilitating an accurate assessment of whether urban residents can enjoy UPGS, the number of UPGS options available to them, and evaluate the quality of UPGS services experienced. Background: Internet gaming addiction (IGA) is a global concern, especially among young children. There have been some suggestions that childhood psychological maltreatment influences the development of IGA, but evidence for this has thus far been lacking., Objective: The goal of this study was to investigate the association between childhood psychological maltreatment and IGA in adolescents and the mediation roles of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies and psychosocial problems (depression and social anxiety)., Methods: This study recruited 1280 (girls = 690) middle school students with a mean age of 16.09 ± 0.98 years old. All participants undertook a standardized assessment of childhood psychological maltreatment, maladaptive emotion regulation strategies, psychosocial problems (depression and social anxiety), and IGA., Results: We examined whether the effect of childhood psychological maltreatment on IGA was mediated by maladaptive emotion regulation strategies and psychosocial problems (depression and social anxiety). Both parallel and sequential mediation analysis showed that maladaptive emotion regulation strategies and depression mediated the relationship between childhood psychological maltreatment and IGA., Conclusions: Childhood psychological maltreatment is positively associated with IGA in adolescents. Although there is guidance from different regulatory agencies, there are opportunities to bring greater consistency and stronger applicability to address the practical issues of establishing and operating a data monitoring committee (DMC) for clinical studies of Chinese medicine. We names it as a Chinese Medicine Data Monitoring Committee (CMDMC). A panel composed of clinical and statistical experts shared their experience and thoughts on the important aspects of CMDMCs. Subsequently, a community standard on CMDMCs (T/CACM 1323-2019) was issued by the China Association of Chinese Medicine on September 12, 2019. Background: Shenyankangfu Tablet (SYKFT) is a Chinese patent medicine that has been used widely to decrease proteinuria and the progression of chronic kidney disease., Objective: This trial compared the efficacy and safety of SYKFT, for the control of proteinuria in primary glomerulonephritis patients, against the standard drug, losartan potassium., Design, Setting, Participants and Intervention: This was a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial. Primary glomerulonephritis patients, aged 18-70 years, with blood pressure ≤ 140/90 mmHg, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥ 45 mL/min per 1.73 m 2 , and 24-hour proteinuria level of 0.5-3.0 g, were recruited in 41 hospitals across 19 provinces in China and were randomly divided into five groups: SYKFT, losartan potassium 50 mg or 100 mg, SYKFT plus losartan potassium 50 mg or 100 mg., Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was change in the 24-hour proteinuria level, after 48 weeks of treatment., Results: A total of 735 participants were enrolled. The percent decline of urine protein quantification in the SYKFT group after 48 weeks was 8.78% ± 2.56% (P = 0.006) more than that in the losartan 50 mg group, which was 0.51% ± 2.54% (P = 1.000) less than that in the losartan 100 mg group. Compared with the losartan potassium 50 mg group, the SYKFT plus losartan potassium 50 mg group had a 13.39% ± 2.49% (P < 0.001) greater reduction in urine protein level. Compared with the losartan potassium 100 mg group, the SYKFT plus losartan potassium 100 mg group had a 9.77% ± 2.52% (P = 0.001) greater reduction in urine protein. With a superiority threshold of 15%, neither was statistically significant. eGFR, serum creatinine and serum albumin from the baseline did not change statistically significant. The average change in TCM syndrome score between the patients who took SYKFT (-3.00 [-6.00, -2.00]) and who did not take SYKFT (-2.00 [-5.00, 0]) was statistically significant (P = 0.003). No obvious adverse reactions were observed in any group., Conclusion: SYKFT decreased the proteinuria and improved the TCM syndrome scores of primary glomerulonephritis patients, with no change in the rate of decrease in the eGFR. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) imparts a high risk of developing postpartum diabetes and is considered to be an early stage of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In this study, a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test was performed on 472 women with GDM at 6-8 weeks after delivery. The clinical and metabolic characteristics were compared between the patients with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) and abnormal glucose metabolism (AGM). These data were then compared between pre-diabetic and diabetic patients. A total of 37.7% of the women with GDM continued to have abnormal glucose levels after delivery. Compared with the women who reverted to normal, HOMA-IR was significantly higher in AGM. A multiple stepwise regression analysis revealed that age, the postpartum body mass index (BMI), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), 2 h glucose load plasma glucose (2 h PG), triglycerides (TG), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), 1 h glucose load plasma insulin (INS) level, and 2 h INS level were independent risk factors for the development of insulin resistance after delivery. This study has identified a high prevalence of AGM after GDM. Insulin resistance appears to be the major contributor. Any treatment to reduce the postpartum BMI and lipids level may be beneficial to decrease insulin resistance.

Background: Automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) can cater to individual needs, provide treatment while asleep, take into account the adequacy of dialysis, and improve the quality of life. Currently, independent research and development of APD machines made in China are more conducive to patients. A randomized, multicenter, crossover study was conducted by comparing an APD machine made in China with an imported machine. The safety, effectiveness, and manipulability of the two machines were compared., Methods: Two hundred and sixty patients who underwent peritoneal dialysis (PD) on a regular basis in 18 centers between August 2015 and February 2016 were included. The inclusion criteria include age ≥18 years and PD ≥30 days. The exclusion criteria were as follows: hemodialysis; exit site or tunnel infection; and peritonitis ≤30 days. The patients were randomly divided into Group A, who were first treated with a FM machine made in China, then changed to an imported machine; and Group B, who were treated using the reverse sequence. APD treatment was performed with 10 L/10 h and 5 cycles of exchange. After 72 h, the daily peritoneal Kt/V, the accuracy of the injection rate, accuracy of the injection temperature, safety, and manipulability of the machine were assessed. Noninferiority test was conducted between the two groups., Results: The daily peritoneal Kt/V in the APD machine made in China and the imported APD machine were 0.17 (0.14, 0.25) and 0.16 (0.13, 0.23), respectively. There was no significant difference between the groups (Z = 0.15, P = 0.703). The lower limit of the daily Kt/V difference between the two groups was 0.0069, which was greater than the noninferiority value of -0.07 in this study. The accuracy of the injection rate and injection temperature was 89.7% and 91.5%, respectively, in the domestic APD machine, which were both slightly better than the accuracy rates of 84.0% and 86.8% in the imported APD machine (89.7% vs. 84.0%, P = 0.2466; 91.5% vs. 86.8%, P = 0.0954). Therefore, the APD machine made in China was not inferior to the imported APD machine. The fuselage of the imported APD machine was space-saving, while the APD machine made in China was superior with respect to body mobility, man-machine dialog operation, alarm control, and patient information recognition., Conclusions: The FM machine made in China was not inferior to the imported APD machine. DNA barcodes have been increasingly used in authentication of medicinal plants, while their wide application in materia medica is limited in their accuracy due to incomplete sampling of species and absence of identification for materia medica. In this study, 95 leaf accessions of 23 species (including one variety) and materia medica of three Pharmacopoeia-recorded species of Angelica in China were collected to evaluate the effectiveness of four DNA barcodes (rbcL, matK, trnH-psbA and ITS). Our results showed that ITS provided the best discriminatory power by resolving 17 species as monophyletic lineages without shared alleles and exhibited the largest barcoding gap among the four single barcodes. The phylogenetic analysis of ITS showed that Levisticum officinale and Angelica sinensis were sister taxa, which indicates that L. officinale should be considered as a species of Angelica. The combination of ITS + rbcL + matK + trnH-psbA performed slight better discriminatory power than ITS, recovering 23 species without shared alleles and 19 species as monophyletic clades in ML tree. Authentication of materia medica using ITS revealed that the decoction pieces of A. sinensis and A. biserrata were partially adulterated with those of L. officinale, and the temperature around 80 °C processing A. dahurica decoction pieces obviously reduced the efficiency of PCR and sequencing. The examination of two cultivated varieties of A. dahurica from different localities indicated that the four DNA barcodes are inefficient for discriminating geographical authenticity of conspecific materia medica. Background: QTLs controlling individual sugars and acids (fructose, glucose, malic acid and tartaric acid) in grape berries have not yet been identified. The present study aimed to construct a high-density, high-quality genetic map of a winemaking grape cross with a complex parentage (V. vinifera × V. amurensis) × ((V. labrusca × V. riparia) × V. vinifera), using next-generation restriction site-associated DNA sequencing, and then to identify loci related to phenotypic variability over three years., Results: In total, 1 826 SNP-based markers were developed. Of these, 621 markers were assembled into 19 linkage groups (LGs) for the maternal map, 696 for the paternal map, and 1 254 for the integrated map. Markers showed good linear agreement on most chromosomes between our genetic maps and the previously published V. vinifera reference sequence. However marker order was different in some chromosome regions, indicating both conservation and variation within the genome. Despite the identification of a range of QTLs controlling the traits of interest, these QTLs explained a relatively small percentage of the observed phenotypic variance. Although they exhibited a large degree of instability from year to year, QTLs were identified for all traits but tartaric acid and titratable acidity in the three years of the study; however only the QTLs for malic acid and β ratio (tartaric acid-to-malic acid ratio) were stable in two years. QTLs related to sugars were located within ten LGs (01, 02, 03, 04, 07, 09, 11, 14, 17, 18), and those related to acids within three LGs (06, 13, 18). Overlapping QTLs in LG14 were observed for fructose, glucose and total sugar. Malic acid, total acid and β ratio each had several QTLs in LG18, and malic acid also had a QTL in LG06. A set of 10 genes underlying these QTLs may be involved in determining the malic acid content of berries., Conclusion: The genetic map constructed in this study is potentially a high-density, high-quality map, which could be used for QTL detection, genome comparison, and sequence assembly. It may also serve to broaden our understanding of the grape genome.

Background: Huanglongbing (HLB) or citrus greening is a devastating disease of citrus. The gram-negative bacterium Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las) belonging to the α-proteobacteria is responsible for HLB in North America as well as in Asia. Currently, there is no cure for this disease. Early detection and quarantine of Las-infected trees are important management strategies used to prevent HLB from invading HLB-free citrus producing regions. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) based molecular diagnostic assays have been routinely used in the detection and diagnosis of Las. The oligonucleotide primer pairs based on conserved genes or regions, which include 16S rDNA and the β-operon, have been widely employed in the detection of Las by qRT-PCR. The availability of whole genome sequence of Las now allows the design of primers beyond the conserved regions for the detection of Las explicitly., Results: We took a complimentary approach by systematically screening the genes in a genome-wide fashion, to identify the unique signatures that are only present in Las by an exhaustive sequence based similarity search against the nucleotide sequence database. Our search resulted in 34 probable unique signatures. Furthermore, by designing the primer pair specific to the identified signatures, we showed that most of our primer sets are able to detect Las from the infected plant and psyllid materials collected from the USA and China by qRT-PCR. Overall, 18 primer pairs of the 34 are found to be highly specific to Las with no cross reactivity to the closely related species Ca. L. americanus (Lam) and Ca. L. africanus (Laf)., Conclusions: We have designed qRT-PCR primers based on Las specific genes. Among them, 18 are suitable for the detection of Las from Las-infected plant and psyllid samples. The repertoire of primers that we have developed and characterized in this study enhanced the qRT-PCR based molecular diagnosis of HLB.

Objective: To investigate the chemical constituents in the roots of Angelica nitida., Methods: The chemical constituents were isolated by silica gel,their structures were identified by spectral analysis., Results: Nine compounds were isolated and identified as isoimperatorin(I), imperatorin(II), cnidilin(III), beta-sitosterol(IV), isopimpinellin(V), phellopterin(VI), neobyakangelicol(VII), (3S)-2,2-dimethyl-3,5-dihydroxy-8-hydroxylmethyl-3,4-dihydro-2H,6H-benzo[1,2-b: 5,4-b'] dipyran-6-one(VIll) and byakangelicin (IX)., Conclusion: All the compounds are isolated from the plant for the first time.

Objective: To investigate how to establish good eating behavior and correct bad eating habits in infants by means of the child health care outpatient clinic and to promote the growth and development of infants., Methods: Infants aged 0-3 months, who were randomly selected from the urban area of Chongqing, were divided into intervention and control groups. The infants in the intervention group received all intervention measures in the study, while those in the control group received conventional health care. Both groups were subjected to regular monitoring of eating behavior indices including time of introduction of foods, frequency of adding complementary foods and intake frequency of unhealthy foods to analyze the effect of intervention., Results: In the intervention group, foods were introduced at a reasonable time (P<0.01). Compared with those in the control group, the children aged 9 and 12 months in the intervention group had a significantly higher intake frequency of meat, vegetables and fruits (P<0.01) and a significantly lower intake frequency of sweet drinks (P<0.05), children aged 18 and 24 months in the intervention group had a significantly lower intake frequency of sweet drinks (P<0.01), and the children aged 24 months in the intervention group had a significantly lower intake frequency of ice cream (P<0.01)., Conclusions: Eating behavior intervention can promote the proper introduction of foods and regular addition of supplementary foods, as well as decrease the intake frequency of unhealthy foods such as sweet drinks and ice cream, thus improving the eating behavior of infants.

Estuary and nearshore waters have complicated environment, where plankton community has a frequent feedback regulation and a very unstable particle size structure. In this paper, an investigation was made on the particle size structure of plankton in the turbidity zone of nearshore and port area waters in Liaoning Province of Northeast China. In the waters with high concentration inorganic nitrogen, phytoplankton biomass was mainly of small particle sizes, with the equivalent sphere diameter (ESD) being primarily 20-100 micro m, while in low nutrient waters, the phytoplankton biomass was mainly of larger size particles, with the ESD>100 micro m, indicating that the phytoplankton feedback regulation caused the phytoplankton community to be comprised of small sized organisms as part of the biological responses to high concentration suspended solids, which reduced the individual number of larger organisms such as Coscinodiscus. sp. and other species, and in turn, directly affected the fisheries resources, including a variety of fish and shrimp larvae fed on phytoplankton. A normalized biomass size spectrum with the characteristics of nearshore shallow aquatic oceanic ecosystems exhibiting eutrophication was constructed. The spectrum slope indicated that the plankton community biomass would gradually increase in size. The feasibility of using dinoflagellates and cladocerans as the bio-indicators for eutrophication was discussed.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of overweight and obesity among infants in Chongqing urban area, and to provide a basis for early intervention in cases of childhood obesity., Methods: A total of 2139 infants aged one month were selected by stratified cluster sampling. They underwent growth monitoring and evaluation at 3, 6, 9, 12 and 18 months after birth. Meanwhile, related factors were investigated using a standardized questionnaire. The data was subjected to multiple logistic regression analysis to determine the risk factors for overweight and obesity among infants aged 18 months., Results: The detection rate of overweight and obesity increased rapidly after birth, reaching 26.04% at six months, and then decreased gradually, reaching 15.89% at 18 months. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed nine variable factors that were significantly correlated with overweight and obesity among infants aged 18 months, including nutritional status of the father, nutritional status of the infants at birth and at 6, 9 and 12 months after birth, feeding patterns at 3 months, frequency of vegetable intake at 12 months, frequency of sweet beverage addition at 18 months, and bedtime at 18 months., Conclusions: Overweight and obesity are prevalent among infants in Chongqing urban area, and these conditions are affected by multiple factors. Early comprehensive intervention is recommended to curb prevalence.

Background: To identify the risk factors for early kidney damage in hospitalized Chinese patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD)., Methods: A total of 12 multicenter cross-sectional studies were conducted between January 2005 and January 2006 in Chinese CKD patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equal to or more than 30 mL/min/1.73 m2 in Shanghai. CKD was defined according to the K/DOQI guideline. GFR was estimated by the simplified modification of diet in renal disease equation. The demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed among eligible patients stratified by three different CKD groups (CKD stages 1, 2, and 3). The relevant clinical and laboratory risk factors for early kidney damage with a GFR < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 were determined by logistic regression., Results: A total of 822 CKD patients were enrolled in this study. There were significant differences in age and gender among patients with CKD stages 1, 2, and 3. The prevalence of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cerebral vascular disease, anemia, and hyperuricemia increases when the eGFR declines. Logistic analysis showed that age, hypertension, anemia, and hyperuricemia were independently associated with early kidney damage., Conclusions: In CKD patients, we have identified only age, hypertension, anemia, and hyperuricemia as the risk factors for early kidney damage. Risk factors should be managed to prevent accelerated kidney damage in CKD patients.

Objective: To study the prevalence, treatment policy and control of hypertension in patients with maintenance hemodialysis, and to analyze the influencing factors of hypertension control., Methods: We studied the current status of 1382 patients with maintenance hemodialysis in 11 dialysis centers in Shanghai, among them 809 were male, and 573 were female. Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure (SBP)≥140 and/or diastolic blood pressure (DBP)≥90 mm Hg (1 mm Hg=0.133 kPa). Those who had a history of hypertension and requiring antihypertensive therapy were also diagnosed as hypertension though their blood pressure was within normal range during the survey. Hypertension control was defined as blood pressure<140/90 mm Hg before each dialysis session., Results: The prevalence of hypertension in the hemodialysis patients was 86.3%. The treatment rate and control rate in those patients were 96.8% and 25.5% respectively. More than half (50.4%) of patients were treated with only one kind of anti-hypertensive drug, and 34.4% with 2 kinds, 14.2% with 3 kinds, 1.0% with 4 kinds or more. Calcium channel blocker (CCB) was the most frequently prescribed drug (61.0%), followed by angiotensin II receptor blockers (56.4%), centrally acting anti-hypertensive agent (26.4%), beta blockers and alpha, beta-blockers (14.0%). The control rate of hypertension in those hemodialysis people was aggravated by the existence of coronary artery disease. The patients who need more kinds of antihypertensive agents have a poorer control rate of hypertension. The hypertension control rate elevated significantly with the adequate hemodialysis., Conclusions: There is a very high prevalence of hypertension in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Although the treatment rate is high, the control rate is unsatisfactory. So the control of hypertension in hemodialysis patient is still a clinical challenge. Appropriate dialysis adequacy, reasonable use of erythropoietin, treatment of heart disease and judicious use of antihypertensive drugs may be helpful to improve the clinical outcome.

Objective: To investigate the incidence and prognosis of drug-induced acute renal failure (ARF) in Shanghai., Methods: The registration forms of ARF patients admitted in 17 hospitals of and over the middle class in Shanghai from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2006 were screened prospectively. The data, such as epidemiology, survival, mortality, and morbidity were analyzed., Results: 347 of the 1200 ARF patients (28.9%), 224 males and 123 females, aged (58+/-20), suffered from drug-induced ARF. 51.0% of the 347 patients were older than 60. 60.2% of the drug-induced ARF in the non-surgical departments were community-acquired, while 55.7% of the drug-induced ARF in the surgical departments were hospital-acquired. Among the non-surgical departments, the incidence of hospital-acquired drug-induced ARF was the lowest in the department of nephrology (9.5%), while higher in the departments of hematology, cardiology, and neurology, and among the surgical departments, it was the lowest in department of renal surgery, while higher in the departments of liver transplantation, neurosurgery, and cardiovascular surgery. The most common complication was chronic kidney disease (CKD) (n=69, 19.9%), followed by cerebrovascular disease (n=59, 17.0%), diabetes mellitus (n=43, 12.4%), and hypertension (n=41, 11.8%). Renal biopsy showed acute tubular necrosis (18, 37.5%), acute interstitial nephritis (11, 22.9%), and acute infectious tubulo-interstitial nephritis (6, 12.5%). Antibiotics (47.8%) were the head causes of drug-induced ARF, especially aminoglycoside (17.0%) and cephalosporins (12.7%), followed by diuretics (22.2%) and radiocontrasts (13.3%). 22.5% of the drug-induced ARF patients had used two or more drugs. 119 patients (34.3%) needed renal replacement treatment. 100 of the 347 patients (28.8%) died. 188 of the surviving patients (54.2%) had their renal function recovered completely, the renal function of 42 of them (12.1%) was recovered partially, and 17 of then (4.9%) required dialysis when discharged., Conclusion: Drug-induced ARF is common with higher incidence in the patients with complications. Antibiotics, diuretic agents, and contrast medium are the main causes.

Objective: Food allergy as one of social health problems has gained more attention of people. However, few reports on prognosis of food allergy, the relation between infant food allergy and other allergic diseases, and factors affecting prognoses of infant food allergy in China. The present study was designed to investigate the evolution of infancy food allergy and to explore predicting factors of the tolerance to these foods and factors of other allergic diseases to provide a clue for managing children with food allergy reasonably and to improve their prognoses., Methods: Totally 119 children with food allergy during infancy, who were diagnosed in the Department of Primary Child Care, Children's Hospital, Chongqing University of Medical Sciences from January 2000 to June 2003, were studied retrospectively by analyzing the follow-up data before March 2004. The occurrence of food tolerance and other allergic diseases were counted. Kaplan-Meier methods were used to calculate the cumulative tolerance probability. And the predicting factors of persistent food allergy and influential factors of other allergic diseases were analyzed by unconditional Logistic regression models., Results: The cumulative tolerance probabilities of cow's milk and egg were 42% and 31% one year after diagnosis respectively, 63% and 62% 2 years later, 77% and 80% 3 years later, and 100% after 4 years. And the severity of skin prick test reactions to cow's milk and egg was the predicting factor for persisting hypersensitivity to cow's milk and egg (OR = 2.535, 95% CI: 1.159-5.543; OR = 2.654, 95% CI: 1.302-5.410, P < 0.05). Thirteen cases presented with hypersensitivity to other foods (15.6 +/- 6.1) months after the diagnosis was confirmed, and the risk factor was the long-lasting hypersensitivity to egg (OR = 6.109, 95% CI: 1.818-20.527, P < 0.05). After 4 cases and 15 cases were diagnosed as allergic rhinitis and asthma, respectively, (16.8 +/- 8.3) months after diagnoses and the risk factors were the long-lasting hypersensitivity to egg and the respiratory symptoms (OR = 3.596, 95% CI: 1.429-9.045; OR = 4.235, 95% CI: 1.152-15.563, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: At least 75% of children with egg or cow's milk allergy could develop tolerance to egg or cow's milk within 3 years after diagnoses; 10.9%, 12.6% and 3.4% of children with food allergy suffered from other food allergy, asthma and allergic rhinitis. Strengthening the screening and management of children at high risk for persistent food allergy will contribute to improvement of the prognoses of food allergy.
