As a severe public health concern directly endangering life safety, adolescent suicide has been extensively investigated in variable-centered studies. However, gaps remain in the knowledge of heterogeneous suicide risk patterns and their developmental nature. Additionally, little is known about protective factors associated with suicide risk patterns and changes. This study applied person-centered approaches to explore suicide risk profiles and transitions over time in early Chinese adolescents, along with their protective factors. A total of 1518 junior high school students (49.6% girls, Mage = 13.57, SD = 0.75) participated in two surveys within a 12-month interval. Latent Profile Analysis and Latent Transition Analysis were used to model the profiles and transitions of suicide risk. Three risk profiles were identified at both time points: low risk profile (73.9, 78.3%), medium risk-high threat profile (16.2, 10.2%), and high risk profile (9.9, 10.2%). Low risk profile was stable, while medium risk-high threat and high risk profiles showed great transitions over 12 months. Sense of control, meaning in life, and regulatory emotional self-efficacy served as protective factors against suicide risk profiles and transitions. Findings underscore the importance of comprehensively illustrating suicide risk states from multiple aspects, as well as understanding the fluid nature of transitions between different risk states. Prevention and intervention strategies aimed at enhancing resilience, such as increasing sense of control, perceived meaningfulness, and belief in emotional regulation, may contribute to reducing the risk of suicide among adolescents. Although research has demonstrated that childhood maltreatment is a distal factor for suicide risk, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. This study aims to test whether psychache mediates the relationship between college students' recalled childhood maltreatment and suicide risk and whether meaning in life moderates the indirect path. Participants were recruited by a convenient sampling method and data was collected via an online survey in this cross-sectional study. A total of 767 Chinese college students (aged 18–24) filled out self-report questionnaires regarding demographic information, childhood maltreatment, psychache, meaning in life, and suicide risk. Results showed that (a) recalled childhood maltreatment was positively associated with suicide risk, (b) psychache partially mediated the association between recalled childhood maltreatment and suicide risk, and (c) meaning in life moderated the association between psychache and suicide risk. The effect of psychache on suicide risk was weaker in college students with higher levels of meaning in life. Findings highlight the significance to consider those risk and protective factors when evaluating suicide risk and developing suicide prevention and intervention strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) and interstitial lung disease (ILD) among patients with anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 antibody (MDA5)-positive DM. Method In this retrospective study, serum SOD of 90 health check-ups were tested in our hospital. A total of 94 hospitalized patients with anti-MDA5-positive DM had ILD. Their serum SOD, serum ferritin and autoantibody levels were determined and lung high-resolution CT was performed. Results The serum SOD level was significantly lower in the anti-MDA5-positive DM group compared with the control group. The SOD level was significantly lower in patients positive for both anti-MDA5 antibodies and anti-Ro-52 antibodies than in those positive for only anti-MDA5 antibodies before treatment. The SOD level was significantly lower in the higher serum ferritin group compared with the lower serum ferritin group before treatment. After treatment, the serum SOD level decreased in patients with exacerbation of ILD, while it increased in those with alleviated ILD. The SOD level was significantly lower in the death group than in the survival group before treatment. Conclusions In patients with anti-MDA5-positive DM, the low SOD level before treatment indicated the presence of oxidative stress in the disease; the serum SOD level was affected by anti-Ro-52 antibodies and ferritin; there is a close relationship between serum SOD level and ILD among patients with anti-MDA5-positive DM, suggesting that SOD might serve as an effective indicator to evaluate the changes in ILD in these patients; and the low SOD level is an important indicator of poor prognosis in these patients, which deserves attention from rheumatologists. Located in Luoning County, western Henan Province, Central China, the Zhonghe Ag−Pb−Zn ore field, is a newly discovered deposit in the Xiaoshan District. Ore bodies controlled by NNW Faults occur as veins within the Paleoproterozoic Xiong'er Group or the Early Cretaceous porphyritic granite. Given that the Zhonghe deposit has been covered by thick Quaternary sediments, the paragenetic mineral assemblage was determined mainly by microscopic observations, including the quartz-siderite-pyrite alteration (Stage I), polymetallic sulfide precipitation (Stage II), silver mineralization (Stage III), and quartz-carbonate stage (Stage IV). The host minerals for silver are diverse, such as freibergite, pyrargyrite, polybasite, argyrodite, canfieldite, argentite, and native silver, whereas those for Pb and Zn are galena and sphalerite, respectively. In order to constrain the ore-forming components of the Zhonghe deposit, a combined in-situ analysis was conducted on represented sulfides from Stage II and Stage III. In-situ δ34S values of the analyzed sulfides, including the pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, and galena, display a relatively narrow range (0.90‰–5.0‰), which is close to magmatic sulfur source. The 206Pb/204Pb and 207Pb/204Pb ratios show a narrow range (17.140–17.360 and 15.385–15.490), whereas the 208Pb/204Pb ratios exhibit a broad variation (36.601–37.943), indicating a contamination of the Xiong'er Group. Synthesis of geochronological and geochemical data from the Xiaoshan District, we contend that the ore-forming materials of the Zhonghe Ag−Pb−Zn deposit are originated from the lower crust, which has presumably been influenced by the large-scale lithospheric delamination of the eastern North China Craton during the Early Cretaceous. In consideration of the geological setting, mineralogy, and geochemical compositions, we suggest that the Zhonghe Ag−Pb−Zn deposit is characterized as intermediate sulfidation type epithermal deposit, and may be a potential exploration target for porphyry Mo−Cu deposits. Lake Taihu, which is the third largest freshwater lake in China, has experienced extensive cyanobacterial ( Microcystis spp.) blooms over the past two decades. However, the distribution, dynamics and succession of the blooms have not been fully studied. To better understand the basic characteristics of Microcystis blooms in Lake Taihu, samples were collected from December 2008 to December 2009. The distribution and dynamics of different Microcystis morphotypes were characterized. Microcystis genotypes were analyzed also by sequencing the clone library of the internal transcribed spacer of the rRNA operon (ITS). The abundance of total Microcystis and the proportion of microcystin-producing subpopulation were estimated by using a quantitative PCR assay. Marked succession in both morphotypes and genotypes of the Microcystis population occurred during the course of the Microcystis bloom. The 2337 ITS sequences were obtained and were revealed to contain 618 Microcystis genotypes, which was the highest Microcystis genetic diversity reported in Lake Taihu. The T1 genotype, which was characterized by strains of Microcystis flos-aquae , was the most dominant genotype during winter and spring around the entire lake and likely acted as the main inoculum for forming blooms the following year. Water temperature periodically affected the succession of both Microcystis genotypes and morphotypes, whereas the micro-environment influenced the spatial distribution of Microcystis genotypes and morphotypes. High ratios of mcyD containing Microcystis subpopulations were detected during the onset and later bloom phases. A redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that the water temperature and PO 4 -P were the major factors controlling both the total Microcystis abundance and the proportion of microcystin-producing Microcystis in hyper-eutrophic waters. Optimization is one of the key technologies of realizing CIMS for continuous processes. But for many industries in China, the quality of raw materials cannot be guaranteed, production circumstance is execrable and the boundary condition is sharp, so the traditional optimization methods are unable to solve the problem of their optimal-setting control. In this paper, a method of optimal-setting control based on integrated control is presented and employed to a six-zone walking beam reheat furnace. Abstract: Cyanobacterial blooms, forming massive scum and various cyanotoxins, increasingly spread in a wide range of freshwater ecosystems. One heavy Microcystis bloom occurred in the entire Qinhuai River basin in 2010 summer for the first time. To determine the Microcystis populations and their spatial distributions along Qinhuai River, a molecular approach was applied by sequencing the DNA library based on the internal transcribed spacer sequences of 16-23S rRNA (ITS). The parsimony network (TCS) analysis showed that 9 groups were formed based on the main 24 genotypes, and each group was dominated by one highly represented root sequence. Marked changes in the composition and proportion of the Microcystis ITS genotype were detected from the upper to the lower reaches. The seed sources forming the bloom were probably located at 4 different locations. Furthermore, it was found that pH was the primary factor affecting the spatial distribution of the main genotype group among samples. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: Progress in cardiovascular health is increasingly concentrated in high-income countries, while the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is high in low- and middle-income countries, a clear health inequity that must be urgently addressed., Objective: This study aims to evaluate the prevalence and clustering of CVD risk factors in the three Lancang-Mekong regions., Methods: We conducted a population-based cross-sectional survey from January 2021 to March 2023 in China, Laos, and Cambodia. We compared the prevalence and clustering of CVD risk factors-including hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, overweight/obesity, current smoking status, current drinking status, inadequate vegetable and fruit intake, and insufficient physical activity-across the three regions, further stratifying the data by gender and age. Multivariate logistic regression models were performed to explore factors influencing the aggregation of CVD risk factors (≥2, ≥3, ≥4)., Results: A total of 11,005 adults were included in the study. Hypertension emerged as the primary metabolic risk factor in Laos (36.8%) and Cambodia (23.5%), whereas overweight/obesity was the primary risk factor in China (37.6%). In terms of behavioral risk factors, participants in all three regions showed insufficient vegetable and fruit intake. The prevalence of individuals without CVD risk factors was 10% in China, 1.9% in Laos, and 5.2% in Cambodia. Meanwhile, the prevalence of two or more risk factors was 64.6% in China, 79.2% in Laos, and 76.0% in Cambodia. Multivariate logistic regression models revealed that the propensity for CVD risk factors clustering was higher in men and increased with age in all three countries., Conclusions: CVD risk factors and multiple clustering are pressing health threats among adults in low- and middle-income areas along the Lancang-Mekong River Basin. Objectives: To determine and compare the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in patients with connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD)., Methods: The level of vitamin D was determined by the serum levels of 1,25(OH)2D3. We evaluated 144 patients in our study, including 53 subjects in the CTD-ILD group and 91 subjects in the CTD group without ILD. CTD was diagnosed following the American College of Rheumatology criteria, and ILD was diagnosed by high-resolution computed tomography. Patients with other known causes of ILD and other pulmonary diseases were excluded. Vitamin D deficiency level was <20 ng/ml. This is a retrospective study., Results: Serum vitamin D levels were significantly lower in CTD-ILD patients (p<0.0001). Vitamin D deficiency was lower in the CTD-ILD group (mean±SD: 11.5±4.1 ng/ml) than in the control group (13.9±4.8 ng/ml, p=0.004). The CTD-ILD group was older (p=0.002), had higher levels of fibrinogen (p=0.028) and positive anti-CCP (p=0.026), faster ESR (p=0.001), lower serum levels of serum calcium (p=0.002), and more immunosuppressive therapies (p=0.011). Decreased serum albumin and higher positive antinuclear antibodies (ANA) were associated with reduced vitamin D levels in the vitamin D subgroups. When the odds ratio was adjusted for CTD-ILD, vitamin D deficiency was also a risk factor for CTD-ILD, whereas serum levels of calcium was a protective factor for CTD-ILD., Conclusions: Serum vitamin D deficiency is associated with CTD-ILD and is a risk factor. Therefore, vitamin D may play a role in the pathogenesis of CTD-ILD.

The earthy-musty compounds geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) produced by cyanobacteria are considered as the main biological causes of off-flavor events, especially in aquatic ecosystems. More than 50 filamentous cyanobacteria species have been documented as geosmin or MIB producers; however, little is known about the species coproducing these two metabolites. In this study, an epiphytic sample was collected from a river in Hubei, China. Three isolated strains (A2, B2, and B4) producing earthy odors were successfully isolated and identified as the cyanobacterium Leptolyngbya bijugata Anagnostidis et Komárek 1988 based on morphology and 16S rDNA sequences. Gas chromatography analysis confirmed that the isolated L. bijugata strains were geosmin and MIB coproducers, with accumulation ranging from 13.6 to 22.4 and 12.3 to 57.5 μg L(-1), respectively. The partial fragments of geosmin and MIB synthesis genes in the L. bijugata strains were cloned and sequenced. Further sequences and phylogenetic analysis indicated the high conservation and a common origin of these genes in cyanobacteria. This study is the first to report and characterize the coproduction of geosmin and MIB by L. bijugata, representing a new source for potential risk of off-flavor events.
