Over the past 20 years, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), and its successor mission, GRACE‐Follow On (GRACE‐FO) have made significant contributions to time‐variable gravity field modeling. A Chinese low‐low satellite‐to‐satellite tracking gravimetry mission (i.e., Chinese future gravimetry mission) has been confirmed to be selected as the polar‐orbiting satellite gravimetry mission for China, because of the capability to collect gravity data globally. However, the analysis of potential contributions to geosciences from GRACE‐FO coupling with the Chinese future gravimetry mission is still limited. This study combines GRACE‐FO and Chinese future gravimetry missions as the Dual GRACE‐like Polar satellite Constellation (DGPC). By carefully choosing the initial orbit parameters of the Chinese future gravimetry mission with the differential evolution algorithm, the DGPC is expected to mitigate the temporal aliasing effects by improving the temporal resolution of time‐variable gravity solutions (i.e., 1‐day and 3‐day solutions). Regarding the spectral‐domain evaluation, zonal, tesseral, and sectorial coefficients estimated by the DGPC show approximately 6.01%–13.42% noise reductions compared with GRACE‐FO. Regarding the spatial‐domain evaluation, the DGPC can suppress noises of about 39.44% and 31.12% in annual amplitude and long‐term trend, respectively. On this basis, this paper analyzes the effectiveness of the DGPC in potential contributions to geosciences (e.g., hydrology, glaciology, and seismology). Specifically, the DGPC can improve accuracy by about 36.96%, 25.85%, and 33.16% with respect to GRACE‐FO for signals in the subhumid basin, signals of ice‐sheet mass balance over Greenland, and coseismic displacement of the fault zone, respectively. In general, the potential capability for high‐frequency signals recovery of the DGPC would facilitate contributions of satellite gravimetry to geosciences. What can we expect from the dual GRACE‐like polar satellite constellation? In this study, we introduce an optimization algorithm (i.e., differential evolution algorithm) to carefully choose the initial orbit parameters of the Chinese future gravimetry mission. The dual GRACE‐like polar satellite constellation has been demonstrated to have the potential to mitigate the temporal aliasing effects of time‐variable gravity solutions. It is found that the dual GRACE‐like polar satellite constellation can improve accuracy by about 36.96%, 25.85%, and 33.16% with respect to GRACE‐FO for signals in the subhumid basin, signals of ice‐sheet mass balance over Greenland, and coseismic displacement of the fault zone, respectively. To determine the association between intraoperative renal tissue desaturation as measured using near-infrared spectroscopy and increased likelihood of developing postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) in older patients undergoing hepatectomy. A multicenter prospective cohort study. The study was conducted at two tertiary hospitals in China from September 2020 to October 2021. 157 older patients (≥ 60 years) undergoing open hepatectomy surgery. Renal tissue oxygen saturation was continuously monitored during operation using near-infrared spectroscopy. The exposure of interest was intraoperative renal desaturation, defined as at least 20% relative decline in renal tissue oxygen saturation from baseline. The primary outcome was postoperative AKI, defined using the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes criteria according to the serum creatinine criteria. Renal desaturation occurred in 70 of 157 patients. Postoperative AKI was observed in 23% (16/70) and 8% (7/87) of patients with versus without renal desaturation. Patients with renal desaturation were at higher risk of AKI than patients without renal desaturation (adjusted odds ratio 3.41, 95% confidence interval: 1.12–10.36, p = 0.031). Predictive performance was 65.2% sensitivity and 33.6% specificity for hypotension alone, 69.6% sensitivity and 59.7% specificity for renal desaturation alone, and 95.7% sensitivity and 26.9% specificity for combined use of hypotension and renal desaturation. Intraoperative renal desaturation occurred in >40% in our sample of older patients undergoing liver resection and was associated with increased risk of AKI. Background: China has thousands years of goat breeding and abundant goat genetic resources. Additionally, the Hainan black goat is one of the high-quality local goat breeds in China. In order to conserve the germplasm resources of the Hainan black goat, facilitate its genetic improvement and further protect the genetic diversity of goats, it is urgent to develop a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chip for Hainan black goat., Results: In this study, we aimed to design a 10K liquid chip for Hainan black goat based on genotyping by pinpoint sequencing of liquid captured targets (cGPS). A total of 45,588 candidate SNP sites were obtained, 10,677 of which representative SNP sites were selected to design probes, which finally covered 9,993 intervals and formed a 10K cGPS liquid chip for Hainan black goat. To verify the 10K cGPS liquid chip, some southern Chinese goat breeds and a sheep breed with similar phenotype to the Hainan black goat were selected. A total of 104 samples were used to verify the clustering ability of the 10K cGPS liquid chip for Hainan black goat. The results showed that the detection rate of sites was 97.34% -99.93%. 84.5% of SNP sites were polymorphic. The heterozygosity rate was 3.08%-36.80%. The depth of more than 99.4% sites was above 10X. The repetition rate was 99.66%-99.82%. The average consistency between cGPS liquid chip results and resequencing results was 85.58%. In addition, the phylogenetic tree clustering analysis verified that the SNP sites on the chip had better clustering ability., Conclusion: These results indicate that we have successfully realized the development and verification of the 10K cGPS liquid chip for Hainan black goat, which provides a useful tool for the genome analysis of Hainan black goat. Purpose: Retinal and optic nerve diseases have become the primary cause of irreversible vision loss and blindness. However, there is still a lack of thorough evaluation regarding their prevalence in China., Methods: This artificial intelligence-based national screening study applied a previously developed deep learning algorithm, named the Retinal Artificial Intelligence Diagnosis System (RAIDS). De-identified personal medical records from January 2019 to December 2021 were extracted from 65 examination centers in 19 provinces of China. Crude prevalence and age-sex-adjusted prevalence were calculated by mapping to the standard population in the seventh national census., Results: In 2021, adjusted referral possible glaucoma (63.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 57.12-68.90 cases per 1000), epiretinal macular membrane (21.84, 95% CI = 15.64-29.22), age-related macular degeneration (13.93, 95% CI = 11.09-17.17), and diabetic retinopathy (11.33, 95% CI = 8.89-13.77) ranked the highest among 10 diseases. Female participants had significantly higher adjusted prevalence of pathologic myopia, yet a lower adjusted prevalence of diabetic retinopathy, referral possible glaucoma, and hypertensive retinopathy than male participants. From 2019 to 2021, the adjusted prevalence of retinal vein occlusion (0.99, 95% CI = 0.73-1.26 to 1.88, 95% CI = 1.42-2.44), macular hole (0.59, 95% CI = 0.41-0.82 to 1.12, 95% CI = 0.76-1.51), and hypertensive retinopathy (0.53, 95% CI = 0.40-0.67 to 0.77, 95% CI = 0.60-0.95) significantly increased. The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in participants under 50 years old significant increased., Conclusions: Retinal and optic nerve diseases are an important public health concern in China. Further well-conceived epidemiological studies are required to validate the observed increased prevalence of diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and macular hole nationwide., Translational Relevance: This artificial intelligence system can be a potential tool to monitor the prevalence of major retinal and optic nerve diseases over a wide geographic area.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the correlation between preoperative frailty and the risk of postoperative delirium (POD) in older patients undergoing hip fracture surgery., Methods: In total, 148 patients with hip fractures who were admitted to Tsinghua Changgung Hospital (Beijing, China) between January 2022 and January 2023 were involved in this study. Preoperative frailty scales were assessed, of which the CAM scale was postoperatively administered every morning and evening on days 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7. Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the correlation between preoperative frailty and the risk of POD., Results: Among 148 older patients with hip fractures, 71 (48.0%) were identified as preoperative frail and 77 (52.0%) as non-frail. The overall incidence of POD on day 7 was 24.3% (36/148), and preoperative frailty was associated with a significantly higher risk of POD compared with non-frailty (42.3% vs. 7.8%, P < 0.001). The binary logistic regression analysis revealed that preoperative frailty was noted as an independent risk factor for the risk of POD in older patients undergoing hip fracture surgery (P = 0.002)., Conclusion: Preoperative frailty increased the risk of POD in older patients undergoing hip fracture surgery., Discussion: Preoperative assessment of frailty in geriatric hip surgery can timely identify potential risks and provide interventions targeting frailty factors to reduce the incidence of POD in older patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. The findings suggested that preoperative frailty could increase the risk of POD in older patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. Further research is necessary to determine whether perioperative interventions aimed at enhancing frailty can mitigate the risk of POD and improve prognosis in older patients undergoing hip fracture surgery., (© 2024. Background: The quality of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) directly impacts their clinical efficacy and drug safety, making standardization a critical component of modern TCMs. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is an effective physical detection method with speed, sensitivity, and suitability for large sample analyses. In this study, a SERS analysis method was developed using a nano-silver sol as the matrix to address the interference of fluorescence components in TCMs and overcome the limitations of traditional detection methods., Results: The higher sensitivity and efficiency of SERS was used, enabling detection of a single sample within 30 s. Coptis chinensis Franch. (CCF) was chosen as the model medicine, the nano-silver sol was used as the matrix, and CCF's fourteen main fluorescent alkaloids were tested as index components. Typical signal peaks of the main components in CCF corresponded to the bending deformation of the nitrogen-containing ring plane outer ring system, methoxy stretching vibration, and isoquinoline ring deformation vibration. Through SERS detection of different parts, the distribution content of the main active components in the cortex of CCF was found to be lower than that in the xylem and phloem. Additionally, rapid quality control analyses indicated that among the nine batches of original medicinal materials purchased from Emei and Guangxi, the main active ingredient showed a higher content., Significance: A SERS-based method for the rapid localization and analysis of multiple components of TCMs was established. Objective: To explore the genetic basis for a patient with Alport syndrome (AS) and confirm the existence of a splicing variant., Methods: An AS patient diagnosed at the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University on January 8, 2021 for significant proteinuria and occult hematuria was selected as the study subject. Clinical data was collected. Peripheral blood samples were collected for the extraction of genomic DNA. Whole exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were carried out to identify potential genetic variants. An in vitro experiment was also conducted to verify the abnormal mRNA splicing. Bioinformatic software was used to analyze the conservation of amino acids of the variant sites and simulate the 3D structure of the variant collagen IV protein. Immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry were carried out on renal tissues from the patient to confirm the presence of AS kidney injury., Results: The patient, a 21-year-old male, had a 24-hour urine protein of 3.53 g/24 h, which fulfilled the diagnostic criteria for proteinuria. His blood uric acid has also increased to 491 μmol/L. DNA sequencing revealed that he has harbored a c.835-9T>A splice variant of the COL4A5 gene, which was not found in either of his parents. In vitro experiment confirmed that the variant has removed 57 bp from the exon 15 of the mRNA of the COL4A5 gene. The deletion may cause loss of amino acid residues from positions 279 to 297, which in turn may affect the stability of the secondary structure of the α5 chain encoded by the COL4A5 gene. The amino acids are conserved across various species. The result of homology modeling indicated that the trimerization of Col-IV with the mutated α5 chain could be achieved, however, the 3D structure was severely distorted. The AS kidney damage was confirmed through immunofluorescence assays. Based on the guidelines from the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, the c.835-9T>A variant was classified as likely pathogenic (PVS1&#95;Moderate+PS3&#95;Moderate+PM2&#95;Supporting+PS2+PP3+PP4)., Conclusion: The c.835-9T>A variant of the COL4A5 gene probably underlay the AS in this patient. In vitro experiment has confirmed the abnormal splicing caused by the variant. Histopathological examination of the kidney tissue has provided in vivo evidence for its pathogenicity. Above finding has expanded the mutational spectrum of the COL4A5 gene.

River delta-front estuaries (DEs) are vital interfaces for fluxes between terrestrial and marine environments. However, deep uncertainty exists in estimating the sedimentary pollutant flux from terrestrial environments in DEs due, in part, to a lack of direct measurements in these dynamic and complicated regions and uncertainty in the calculation method. Due to its high sediment content, the Yellow River (YR) has a strong ability to adsorb phosphorus; therefore, it reliably reflects estuarine sedimentary processes. Here, through the comprehensive analysis of field samples, monitoring data and remote sensing images, we conclude that riverine fine particles control the deltaic estuary pollution status and that particle size is the key factor. Based on the stable relationships between phosphorus and heavy metals, with r 2 values of 0.990, 0.992, and 0.639 for As, Cd, and Cr, respectively, we estimated that the P flux reached 22.68 g/m 2 yr in 2017. Analysis of the YR high-silt sediment load, which has a strong phosphorus adsorption ability and constitutes a substantial fraction of global fluvial sediment transport, revealed a negative correlation between the riverine sediment load and the estuarine phosphorus flux.

The Dongsha Shoal is one of the largest shoals in the South Yellow Sea and has important marine ecological value. The shoal extends in a south-north direction and is controlled by the regional dominating tidal currents. Recently, due to human activities and some natural factors, the geomorphic dynamics of the Dongsha Shoal has undergone drastic changes. However, few people have proposed quantitative research on the changes of tidal flat morphology, let alone the long-term sequence analysis of sand ridge lines. Hence, we attempt to take the Dongsha Shoal in the Radial Sand Ridges as the research area, and analyze the trends of the long-term morphological evolution of the sand ridge lines over the period 1973-2016 based on a high-density time series of medium-resolution satellite images. The sand ridge line generally moves from southeast to northwest, and the position distribution of the sand ridge line from north to south has gradually changed from compact to scattered. We also found that the geomorphological dynamics at different positions of the sand ridge line are inconsistent. The north and south wings are eroded on the west side, while the central area is eroded on the east side. Most of the sand ridge line is moving eastward. In addition, the change of sand ridge line is affected by multiple factors such as sediment supply, typhoon, reclamation and laver cultivation.
