In Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), learners can post both text comments and overall ratings regarding the courses. There is growing interest in assessing the consistency of online reviews and the determinants of learner satisfaction. This study analyses the disconfirmation effect between textual review topics and the determinants of learner satisfaction in MOOCs. The MOOCs are categorised under three disciplines - Social Science, Technical Science, and Humanities & Natural Science. A crawler was employed to collect the corpus, extracting 93,679 reviews of 5,214 online courses from a Chinese university MOOC platform (icourse163.org). Textual analytics was used in the topic extraction. The empirical results suggest a strong disconfirmation effect between textual reviews and the determinants of learner satisfaction, i.e., not all textual review topics affect the overall learner satisfaction. Compared with positive reviews, negative (and neutral) reviews have a stronger disconfirmation effect. Further, the antecedents of learner attention are course-discipline specific. The disconfirmation effect is course-discipline dependent, with the most prominent for Technical Science courses, and the least for Humanities & Natural Science courses. This study provides a framework to guide platform managers and course instructors in better course delivery and enhancing overall learner satisfaction.

This study investigated 150 university lecturers from the perspective of their emotional labour, focusing on the effect of a playful climate on lecturers' innovation intention and job engagement. A structural equation model analysis determined the following: is positively related to lecturers' strategies of deep acting and expression of natural emotions, but its effect on surface action is not significant; deep acting partially mediates between university playfulness climate and innovation intention, and the expression of natural emotions partially mediates between university playfulness climate and job engagement. This study expands our knowledge regarding the effect of emotional labour on lecturers' individual positive performance and enriches our understanding of the effect of playfulness climate on teaching activities.

In recent years, the tourism industry has expanded rapidly and China will enter the mass tourism era comprehensively, with tourism becoming an important leisure lifestyle for people. However, natural disasters have the characteristics of high frequency, multiple types, wide distribution and large post-disaster losses, which often cause huge impact on tourism industry development. It is of great practical significance to explore the key factors for successful rescue of tourists after disasters. Taking the Wenchuan earthquake as an example, the article selects the Fuzzy Delphi Method and the Analytical Hierarchy Process as the data analysis method, and also randomly selects the local residents of 20 affected scenic spots as the research subjects. The results show that among the assessment dimensions, the most important dimension is prevention, followed by preparedness, response and recovery respectively. Meanwhile, among the 16 assessment indicators, the top five most valued indicators were regional emergency planning, management systems, prompt notification, publicity and education, training and emergency drill in order. Entrepreneurial risk is an important factor that individuals must consider when starting their own business. The COVID-19 continues to rage, bringing great challenges to China's economy and entrepreneurial activities. In this study, college students encounter greater entrepreneurial risks. There are two opposing views on the role of entrepreneurial risk in shaping individual entrepreneurial motivation: one view that risk is a threat, and the other view that entrepreneurial risk contains opportunity. Existing studies have discussed the issues from individual factors and environment factors, respectively, ignoring the combined effects of individual and environment factors. Person–situation transactions theory points out that individuals usually make their final behavior choices based on their comprehensive evaluation of environmental factors and themselves. Therefore, individual and environment factors should be integrated to investigate the effect of entrepreneurial risk on entrepreneurial motivation. Based on the person–situation transactions theory, this study establishes a theoretical model that entrepreneurial risk perception influences necessity and opportunity entrepreneurial motivation through entrepreneurial self-efficacy and discusses the moderating effect of entrepreneurship policy. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 595 fresh graduates from eight universities in China to obtain relevant data and the Structural Equation modelling was established to test the hypothesis. The results confirm that without the influence of external factors, college students regard entrepreneurial risk as a great threat, which not only weakens their entrepreneurial self-efficacy, but also reduces their necessity and opportunity entrepreneurial motivation. However, with the support of good entrepreneurial policies, entrepreneurial risk can be transformed into an opportunity to improve the entrepreneurs motivation driven by necessity of college students, but the impact on the opportunity motivation is not significant. This study deeply analyzes the dual characteristics of entrepreneurial risk perception in the process of shaping individual entrepreneurial motivation, expands the related research on entrepreneurial risk perception and entrepreneurial motivation, and has important implications for the government and universities to formulate entrepreneurial policies for college students. The support of entrepreneurial partners is key to social entrepreneurship and the continuous creation of social value. However, social entrepreneurship in China does not receive sufficient support from venture partners, contrary to the moral spirit of benevolence advocated by traditional Chinese Confucianism. From the perspective of the legitimacy judgement of entrepreneurial partners and using information processing theory, we construct a theoretical model of the interaction between uncertainty and entrepreneurial passion in entrepreneurial engagement and test hypotheses with data from 325 questionnaires completed in China. The results show that uncertainty negatively affects social entrepreneurial engagement, entrepreneurial passion positively affects social entrepreneurial engagement, and legitimacy judgement plays a mediating role in the relationship among uncertainty, entrepreneurial passion, and entrepreneurial engagement. The interaction between uncertainty and entrepreneurial passion affects entrepreneurial engagement through pragmatic legitimacy judgements and moral legitimacy judgements but not through relational legitimacy judgements. We examine why it is difficult for meritorious Chinese social entrepreneurial activities to obtain sufficient support from the perspective of entrepreneurial partners' judgements, extending the legitimacy judgement theory of social entrepreneurship from the perspective of interaction between individuals and the context. Purpose: Previous studies overemphasize the negative effects of social media usage (SMU) within organizations and underestimate its positive influences on employees' behavior. This study attempts to link employees' social media use at work to their creativity performance. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the bounded generalized reciprocity theory and unbounded indirect reciprocity (UIR) theory, the authors developed a research model. To test the model, the authors collected a set of 172 paired data of organizations and employees from 31 knowledge-intensive enterprises in China to test the hypothesis. Findings: This research found that the social, cognitive and hedonic uses of social media all directly affect employee creativity. Relational energy fully mediates the effects of the cognitive and hedonic usages on creativity. Moreover, job autonomy moderates the effects of the relationships among the social, cognitive and hedonic uses on employee creativity. Originality/value: The conclusions not only enriched authors' understanding of the effectiveness of interpersonal interaction but also extended the research boundary of the relationship between SMU and employee creativity. New media technology can effectively support teacher–student rapport. In this study, Chinese students befriended their teachers on social media, and we compared their blended learning (N=455) based on this social media interaction with face-to-face learning (N=450). The results indicate that affective learning and cognitive learning in blended learning were superior to face-to-face learning. However, no significant differences in social presence, academic self-concept, or grade point average were observed between blended learning and face-to-face learning. According to a multi-group structural equation modelling analysis, the mediating effect of affective learning in blended learning was superior to that in face-to-face learning; in addition, academic self-concept significantly influenced cognitive learning. No significant difference was found for grade point average. Venture capital investment has serious conflicts of interest and information asymmetry. Venture capitalists often make investment decisions on the basis of the passion of entrepreneurs, including enthusiasm and preparedness, in the process of interacting with them. Most of the previous research on relational capital have focused on the cooperative relationship between suppliers and buyers. However, the role of relational capital in the process of partnership between venture capitalists and entrepreneurs has not been revealed. On the basis of signaling theory, we explore the relationship between entrepreneurial passion and venture capitalists' willingness to invest. We also examine the mediating and moderating roles of relational capital. This study takes 79 projects between venture capitalists and entrepreneurs as samples for empirical analysis to verify our hypothesis. Results show that entrepreneurs' enthusiasm and preparedness have a significant positive impact on venture capitalists' willingness to invest. Relational capital plays a mediating role between entrepreneurial passion and venture capitalists' willingness to invest. Relational capital positively moderates the relationship between preparedness and venture capitalists' willingness to invest but has no moderating effect between enthusiasm and venture capitalists' willingness to invest. Results deepen the understanding of the relationship between entrepreneurs' passion and venture capitalists' willingness to invest, which has guiding significance for venture capital practice in China. Workplace stressors were identified to have critical impacts on employee creativity. However, little is known about how and when involuntary citizenship behavior [i.e., compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB)]-induced stress might exert an influence on employee creativity. To fill this knowledge gap, the present study firstly develops a moderated mediation model to investigate the CCB–employee creativity association as well as the underlying mechanism and contextual condition of this relationship. By integrating social cognitive theory such as self-efficacy theory and conservation of resources (COR) theory, we propose that CCB predicts employee creativity through the mediating role of creative self-efficacy (CSE), with the individual characteristics (i.e., personality traits) of negative affect acting as a boundary condition. Using two-wave time-lagged survey data collected from a sample of 251 frontline employees in 10 manufacturing firms in Southern China, the results show that: (a) CSE mediates the negative relationship between CCB and employee creativity; (b) negative affect moderates the relationship between CCB and CSE; (c) negative affect moderates the indirect influence of CCB on employee creativity through CSE. As the level of negative affect rises, this indirect relationship is stronger. Finally, important theoretical and managerial implications and promising avenues for future research are addressed. Purpose: This research paper examines how hub firm transformation and restructuring of network partnerships shape the development of industrial clusters in China. Design/methodology/approach: Questionnaire data were collected from 210 managers (response rate 70.9 percent) from the manufacturing industrial clusters in Eastern China. Findings: The results inform that a cluster's hub firm transformation influences the evolution of the cluster. Though the hub firm may possess transformation capabilities, the cluster is likely to be weakened if network partnerships and resource synergy are not formed amongst the cluster members. Research limitations/implications: This paper, in examining the individual- and firm-level attributes of orchestration capability and their interactions, sheds light on the firm level and inter-firm level relationships between resources and innovation in an industrial cluster. Practical implications: To facilitate learning and the upgrading of firms within an industry cluster and promote a cluster's innovation network, policymakers can initiate preferential policy measures to cultivate support to strategically transform a cluster's hub firm, thus fostering cluster network growth. Originality/value: The paper studies the evolution of clusters by investigating the hub firm transformation and member firm interaction. Purpose: This study investigates the effect of psychic distance (PD) on outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) by multinational firms originating in emerging economies and the moderating effect of firm heterogeneity on this relationship. Design/methodology/approach: An empirical analysis based on a negative binomial regression model is conducted using OFDI data from 2008 to 2017 on companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges in China, an emerging economy. Findings: The results suggest a U-shaped relationship between PD and OFDI by firms in emerging economies. Both executive foreign experience and state ownership negatively moderate the U-shaped relationship between PD and OFDI. Practical implications: Emerging economies should encourage and guide multinational firms in engaging in OFDI and emphasize the advantages and disadvantages of PD for multinational firms. Additionally, non-sate-owned firms should recruit those who have a foreign education to provide support for OFDI by firms in emerging economies. Multinational firms should determine investment locations by consulting with executives with foreign experience to improve their ability to engage in OFDI. Originality/value: This study combines macro and micro perspectives and integrates PD and firm heterogeneity into the same model with a sample of multinational firms originating in China. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the restrictive effect of abusive supervision on employees' feedback-seeking behavior (FSB) through organizational-based self-esteem (OBSE) and the moderation of this mediation by leader-member exchange (LMX). Design/methodology/approach: This study conducted hierarchical regression and path analysis to analyze the 312 manager–employee dyads data gathered from five companies in China. Findings: The authors found that abusive supervision had a detrimental effect on employee FSB, partially through OBSE, and that both the direct and indirect effects were moderated by LMX. Practical implications: Organizations should seek to inhibit supervisors' abusive behavior in the workplace. Supervisors should not occasionally mistreat subordinates with whom they have a good relationship. Originality/value: This study reveals the underlying influence mechanism of abusive supervision on employee FSB using the self-concept theory and suggests that OBSE is critical in determining how abusive supervision influences employee FSB. Few studies have examined the relationship between personality traits and social networking sites (SNSs) with a dominant concentration on the personality alterations under SNSs influence. The relationship between personality and privacy control was less focused and discussed. In order to figure out the internal mechanism of such link among youth SNSs users, the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was extended by including Five-Factor Model of Personality to explore how personality traits interact with privacy control behavior on SNSs. The investigation using the theoretical method mentioned led to several hypotheses which were later assessed by an online study conducted within randomly chosen college students (N = 201) from two randomly chosen universities in China. This sampling strategy was designed to mimic the situation of targeted research population in the most reasonable way. The results suggested neuroticism and openness predicted SNSs privacy. The capability of learners to work cooperatively and to coordinate efforts in a team is becoming more important to the success of any job and advancement of knowledge. In cooperative learning, the literature regarding the impact of social technologies is controversial. Because of this controversy, the object of this study is to examine students' experiences and feedback regarding teamwork in cooperative simulation interactions. The research object was addressed in a two-phase study with an experimental design. The participants were 328 students of 6 classes from a large city in China. In this experiment, communication through face-to-face encounters, mobile instant messaging, and combinations thereof were executed based on qualitative and quantitative data. Our research results describe the differences between experimental treatments. Organizational career management (OCM) is believed to be a useful practice to stimulate the potential of employees. However, how this can be achieved is still under investigation. This research aims to explore the mechanisms that explain the effects of OCM by clarifying its impact on employees' psychological states and their capability, based on a socially embedded model of thriving. To examine our hypotheses, we conducted a three-wave survey study with 272 full-time employees in China from diverse industries. The study lasted for three months and there was a one-month interval after each wave. We asked the participants to report OCM, career plateau and demographic variables at Time 1, their appraisal of learning and vitality at Time 2, and their self-perceived employability and job burnout at Time 3. We utilized regression analysis to examine our theoretical model and path analysis using the bias-corrected bootstrap method to test the significance of the indirect and moderation effects. The findings showed that OCM positively affected employees' learning and vitality at work, which increased their self-perceived employability and subsequently decreased job burnout. Furthermore, the effects of OCM were found to be weaker for employees with a high degree of career plateau. These findings demonstrate that OCM benefits employees by "enabling" and "energizing" them to better themselves in terms of their employment and they shed light on the boundary condition of the career plateau. Therefore, organizations may provide OCM to facilitate employees' capability and their motivation to engage in self-development, and to further enhance the effects by decreasing their perception of a career plateau.

This study aims to examine the effect of perceived environmental dynamism on entrepreneurial team member's innovation. Based on the uncertainty reduction theory, this study constructs a multilevel moderated mediation model of the relationship between perceived environmental dynamism and entrepreneurial team member's innovation. By collecting questionnaires from 117 entrepreneurial team leaders and 479 team members in China, this research found that perceived environmental dynamism could stimulate entrepreneurial team members' innovation via triggering their information exchange behavior. In addition, entrepreneurial team members' intolerance for uncertainty and team cooperative climate can moderate the indirect positive relationship between perceived environmental dynamism and individual innovation. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of entrepreneurial team members' responses to dynamic environment and their innovation behavior.

A central-local dual governance system is the basic system of environmental governance in China. Co-governance between the central environmental protection department (CEPD) and local environmental protection departments (LEPDs) is an important means to effectively promote China's carbon emission reduction strategy. Accordingly, this paper discusses their interactive decision-making and investigates how to optimize the strategic relationships between the CEPD, LEPDs, and carbon emission enterprises (CEEs) under the dual governance system by constructing a trilateral evolutionary game model and analyzing evolutionary stability strategies, achieving a numerical experiment simulation of evolution processes and determining the impacts of various factors using MATLAB, leading to several countermeasures and suggestions. The results indicate that the CEPD should rationally use the incentive mechanism for LEPDs, improve the carbon tax system, and further penalize the nepotistic relationship of LEPDs and CEEs. Furthermore, it is essential to reform the current LEPD performance evaluation system and reduce the cost of LEPD positive regulation through subsidies and financial transfer payments. Additionally, the CEE strategy is affected by carbon reduction tax rates, penalties, subsides, and emission reduction costs and revenues. This study reveals the consequences of interactions between CEPD, LEPDs, and CEEs and presents options for the redesign of incentive and regulatory mechanisms to improve carbon emission reduction performance in China.

It is crucial to actively encourage the development of agriculture green technology, which has been regarded as one of the most effective solutions to the environmental degradation caused by agricultural activities. However, agriculture green technology diffusion is indeed a challenging task and still faces numerous barriers. The stakeholders who can potentially deal with these barriers, however, have been overlooked by previous studies. To address these issues, social network analysis was performed to identify critical stakeholders and barriers. Their interactions in agriculture green technology diffusion were analyzed based on the literature, a questionnaire survey and expert judgments. A two-mode network and two one-mode networks were used to analyze the relationships among the identified 12 barriers and 14 stakeholders who can influence these 12 barriers identified. The results show that agricultural research institutes, universities, agribusiness, agencies of township promotion, the government and farmers' relatives are key stakeholders and that the limited market demand for green technology and the high cost of its diffusion are two main barriers. However, poor green technology operability and farmer families in distress are factors that are not as important as previously perceived. Finally, some recommendations and suggestions are provided to promote agriculture green technology diffusion in China.
