Background: Since 2020, China has piloted an innovative payment method known as the Diagnosis-Intervention Packet (DIP). This study aimed to assess the impact of the DIP on inpatient volume and bed allocation and their regional distribution. This study investigated whether the DIP affects the efficiency of regional health resource utilization and contributes to disparities in health equity among regions. Methods: We collected data from a central province in China from 2019 to 2022. The treatment group included 508 hospitals in the pilot area (Region A, where the DIP was implemented in 2021), whereas the control group consisted of 3,728 hospitals from non-pilot areas within the same province. We employed the difference-in-differences method to analyze inpatient volume and bed resources. Additionally, we conducted a stratified analysis to examine whether the effects of DIP implementation varied across urban and rural areas or hospitals of different levels. Results: Compared with the non-pilot regions, Region A experienced a statistically significant reduction in inpatient volume of 14.3% (95% CI 0.061–0.224) and a notable decrease of 9.1% in actual available bed days (95% CI 0.041–0.141) after DIP implementation. The study revealed no evidence of patient consultations shifting from inpatient to outpatient services due to the reduction in hospital admissions in Region A after DIP implementation. Stratified analysis revealed that inpatient volume decreased by 12.4% (95% CI 0.006–0.243) in the urban areas and 14.7% in the rural areas of Region A (95% CI 0.051–0.243). At the hospital level, primary hospitals experienced the greatest impact, with a 19.0% (95% CI 0.093–0.287) decline in inpatient volume. Furthermore, primary and tertiary hospitals experienced significant reductions of 11.0% (95% CI 0.052–0.169) and 8.2% (95% CI 0.002–0.161), respectively, in actual available bed days. Conclusions: Despite efforts to curb excessive medical service expansion in the region following DIP implementation, large hospitals continue to attract a large number of patients from primary hospitals. This weakening of primary hospitals and the subsequent influx of patients to urban areas may further limit rural patients' access to medical services. Background: Global budget payment is currently the prevailing payment strategy internationally. In China, the concept of multi-hospital global budget payment has been proposed with the aims of achieving cost control effects while also encouraging hospital collaboration and optimising allocation of healthcare resources. This study seeks to analyse the impact of multi-hospital global budget payment in China on healthcare expenditure and service volume. Materials and Methods: A retrospective comparative study was carried out in Dangyang County, China. The exposure cases were migrants who were not locally registered in the residence registration system. The study period encompassed January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2019. Including 3,246,164 outpatient medical records and 242,685 inpatient medical records. The key variables are medical expenditure and service volume indicators. Continuous variables were reported as mean and tested by t-test. We used interrupted time series analysis models to estimate the changes in the level and trend of each outcome measure after the policy. Results: After the outpatient global budget payment reform, the monthly medical expenditure of the hospital alliance has transitioned from a discernible upward trajectory to a deceleration in the rate of growth. The outpatient volume in public and private high-level hospitals decreased at a rate of − 419.26 person/month and − 137.04 person/month, respectively. In terms of inpatient service volume, only private high-level hospitals reported a decrease, with a reduction rate of − 15.38 individuals per month. Conclusion: This study presents new evidence demonstrating that the multi-hospital global budget payment can effectively control costs and promote resource reallocation when implemented jointly with hospital alliance policies. Objectives: In China, osteoporosis has become a major health concern among elderly population, imposing significant burden on the country’s social and economic systems. The monocyte to high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR) has been currently recommended as a novel marker of inflammation and oxidative stress associated with osteoporosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, its reliability in non-diabetic elderly populations remains unclear. The present study was to evaluate the association between MHR and osteoporosis in a non-diabetic elderly population. Methods: The clinical data of 240 non-diabetic elderly subjects (115 in the osteoporosis group and 125 in the normal bone group) were retrospectively analyzed and all statistical analyses were performed by using SPSS 26.0. Results: Differences in age, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, MHR, uric acid, creatinine, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were found to be statistically significant between the two groups. A binary logistic regression model was conducted by including age, MHR, UA and Cr as variables. The results showed that age was an independent risk factor and MHR was an independent protective factor for bone abnormality in the non-diabetic elderly population. The ROC analysis showed that the area under the curve for the predictive effect of MHR, age and their combined test on osteoporosis in non-diabetic elderly populations was 0.623, 0.728 and 0.761, respectively; the correlation analysis showed that MHR was positively correlated with lumbar and hip BMD, and negatively associated with femoral neck stress ratio, femoral intertrochanteric stress ratio, and femoral stem stress ratio, showing statistically significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusions: For the non-diabetic elderly population: the MHR is a protective factor against bone abnormalities and was significantly higher in the normal bone group than in the abnormal bone group. This study aims to assess the impact of DIP on medical expenditure, efficiency, and quality for inpatients covered by the Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance (UEBMI) and Urban and Rural Residents Basic Medical Insurance (URRBMI). It seeks to explore whether there are differences in these effects among inpatients of the two insurance types, thereby further understanding its implications for health equity. Materials and methods: We conducted interrupted time series analyses on outcome variables reflecting medical expenditure, efficiency, and quality for both UEBMI and URRBMI inpatients, based on a dataset comprising 621,125 inpatient reimbursement records spanning from June 2019 to June 2023 in City A. This dataset included 110,656 records for UEBMI inpatients and 510,469 records for URRBMI inpatients. Results: After the reform, the average expenditure per hospital admission for UEBMI inpatients did not significantly differ but continued to follow an upward pattern. In contrast, for URRBMI inpatients, the trend shifted from increasing before the reform to decreasing after the reform, with a decline of 0.5%. The average length of stay for UEBMI showed no significant changes after the reform, whereas there was a noticeable downward trend in the average length of stay for URRBMI. The out-of-pocket expenditure (OOP) per hospital admission, 7-day all-cause readmission rate and 30-day all-cause readmission rate for both UEBMI and URRBMI inpatients showed a downward trend after the reform. Conclusion: The DIP reform implemented different upper limits on budgets based on the type of medical insurance, leading to varying post-treatment prices for UEBMI and URRBMI inpatients within the same DIP group. After the DIP reform, the average expenditure per hospital admission and the average length of stay remained unchanged for UEBMI inpatients, whereas URRBMI inpatients experienced a decrease. This trend has sparked concerns about hospitals potentially favoring UEBMI inpatients. Based on the background of urbanization in China, we used the dynamic spatial panel Durbin model to study the driving mechanism of ozone pollution empirically. We also analyzed the spatial distribution of ozone driving factors using the GTWR. The results show that: i) The average annual increase of ozone concentration in ambient air in China from 2015 to 2019 was 1.68μg/m3, and 8.39μg/m3 elevated the year 2019 compared with 2015. ii) The Moran's I value of ozone in ambient air was 0.027 in 2015 and 0.209 in 2019, showing the spatial distribution characteristics of "east heavy and west light" and "south low and north high". iii) Per capita GDP industrial structure, population density, land expansion, and urbanization rate have significant spillover effects on ozone concentration, and the regional spillover effect is greater than the local effect. R&D intensity and education level have a significant negative impact on ozone concentration. iv) There is a decreasing trend in the inhibitory effect of educational attainment and R&D intensity on ozone concentration, and an increasing trend in the promotional effect of population urbanization rate, land expansion, and economic development on ozone concentration. Empirical results suggest a twofold policy meaning: i) to explore the causes behind the distribution of ozone from the new perspective of urbanization, and to further the atmospheric environmental protection system and ii) to eliminate the adverse impacts of ozone pollution on nature and harmonious social development. Background: China initiated the Medical Alliances (MAs) reform to enhance resource allocation efficiency and ensure equitable healthcare. In response to challenges posed by the predominance of public hospitals, the reform explores public-private partnerships within the MAs. Notably, private hospitals can now participate as either leading or member institutions. This study aims to evaluate the dynamic shifts in market share between public and private hospitals across diverse MAs models. Methods: Data spanning April 2017 to March 2019 for Dangyang County's MA and January 2018 to December 2019 for Qianjiang County's MA were analyzed. Interrupted periods occurred in April 2018 and January 2019. Using independent sample t-tests, chi-square tests, and interrupted time series analysis (ITSA), we compared the proportion of hospital revenue, the proportion of visits for treatment, and the average hospitalization days of discharged patients between leading public hospitals and leading private hospitals, as well as between member public hospitals and member private hospitals before and after the reform. Results: After the MAs reform, the revenue proportion decreased for leading public and private hospitals, while member hospitals saw an increase. However, ITSA revealed a notable rise trend in revenue proportion for leading private hospitals (p < 0.001), with a slope of 0.279% per month. Member public and private hospitals experienced decreasing revenue proportions, with outpatient visits proportions declining in member public hospitals by 0.089% per month (p < 0.05) and inpatient admissions proportions dropping in member private hospitals by 0.752% per month (p < 0.001). The average length of stay in member private hospitals increased by 0.321 days per month after the reform (p < 0.01). Conclusions: This study underscores the imperative to reinforce oversight and constraints on leading hospitals, especially private leading hospitals, to curb the trend of diverting patients from member hospitals. At the same time, for private hospitals that are at a disadvantage in competition and may lead to unreasonable prolongation of hospital stay, this kind of behavior can be avoided by strengthening supervision or granting leadership. Background: Multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) has attracted increasing attention in achieving the global goal of tuberculosis (TB) control. China has the second largest TB burden worldwide and has been experiencing large-scale domestic migration. This study aims to explore the effect of migrants on non-adherence to MDR-TB treatment. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Wuhan, China. The exposure cases were migrants who were not locally registered in the residence registration system. The control cases were local residents. Non-adherence cases were patients who were lost follow-up or refused treatment. Chi-square and t-test were used to compare variables between migrants and local residents. Logistic regression models using enter method were used to determine the relationship between migration and non-adherence to treatment. Moderation and medication effects on the association between migrant status and non-adherence were also explored. Results: We studied 73 migrants and 219 local residents. The migrants, who did not to adhere to treatment (55, 75.3%), was far higher than that of local residents (89, 40.6%). Migrants with MDR-TB had 10.38-times higher difficulty in adhering to treatment (adjusted OR = 10.38, 95% CI 4.62– 25.28) than local residents. This additional likelihood was moderated by age and treatment registration group. Migration had an indirect association with non-adherence to treatment via social medial insurance (adjusted OR = 1.05, 95% CI 1.01– 1.13). Conclusion: There a significant increased likelihood of non-adherence to treatment among migrants with MDR-TB, highlighting the importance of improving treatment adherence in this population. Open offshore areas boast strong physical self‐purification capacity and abundant non‐fossil energy resources, such as wind, waves, and solar energy. Consequently, the global community anticipates nearshore aquaculture to transition towards offshore to help increase production, alleviate eutrophication, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To date, China has constructed over 40 sets of deeper‐offshore aquaculture (DOA) infrastructures, encompassing various types of pens, cages and closed containment systems. Although DOA holds vast potential to address food security and aquaculture sustainability in China, its current development trajectory struggles to meet those goals and primarily achieves profitability by focusing on high‐value species or products. For DOA to realize its potential, innovative production systems must tackle three key contradictions: enterprise profitability versus product affordability, clean energy‐based products versus carbon‐intensive products, and automated operation versus re‐employment of coastal fish farmers. Resolving these contradictions requires the development of a large‐scale, anti‐typhoon offshore enclosure that integrates mariculture with other industries, such as wind farming, food processing, and tourism. Plant functional traits reflect the capacity of plants to adapt to their environment and the underlying optimization mechanisms. However, few studies have investigated trade-off strategies for functional traits in desert-wetland ecosystems, the mechanisms by which surface water disturbance and groundwater depth drive functional trait variation at the community scale, and the roles of intraspecific and interspecific variation. Therefore, this study analyzed specific differences in community-weighted mean traits among habitat types and obtained the relative contribution of intraspecific and interspecific variation by decomposing communityweighted mean traits, focusing on the Daliyabuyi Oasis in the hinterland of the Taklamakan Desert. We also explored the mechanisms by which surface water and groundwater influence different sources of variability specifically. The results showed that plant height, relative chlorophyll content, leaf thickness, leaf nitrogen content, and nitrogen-phosphorus ratio were the key traits reflecting habitat differences. As the groundwater depth becomes shallower and surface water disturbance intensifies, plant communities tend to have higher leaf nitrogen content, nitrogenphosphorus ratio, and relative chlorophyll content and lower height. Surface water, groundwater, soil water content, and total soil nitrogen can influence interspecific and intraspecific variation in these traits through direct and indirect effects. As arid to wet habitats change, plant trade-off strategies for resources will shift from conservative to acquisitive. The study concluded that community functional traits are mainly contributed by interspecific variation, but consideration of intraspecific variation and the covariation effects that exist between it and interspecific variation can help to further enhance the understanding of the response of community traits in desert-wetland ecosystems to environmental change. Regional innovation output is influenced by many factors such as macroeconomic environments, residents consumption, fixed asset investment, foreign trade, fiscal revenue and expenditure, education, and research and development (R&D) input. Correctly predicting regional innovation output is an important subject in the economic field. In this paper, we propose four regularized Poisson regressions to forecast regional innovation output for 31 provinces in China. Firstly, we screen out 20 important factors and combine with four penalties: ridge penalty (L2), least absolute shrinkage and selection operator penalty (LASSO), smoothly clipped absolute deviation penalty (SCAD), and minimax concave penalty (MCP) to construct four regularized Poisson regressions. Secondly, we introduce the cyclic coordinate descent (CCD) algorithm and the training set to complete variable selection and obtain the least squares weighted iterative estimators and make model selection by introducing three criterions to compare goodness of fit to different models. Finally, we apply the testing set and the learned regressions to exhibit the prediction performances and found that SCAD/MCP regularized Poisson regression predicts better than L2/LASSO regularized Poisson regression in terms of root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). In particular, MCP regularized Poisson regression outperforms the other three regularized Poisson regressions in predicting the number of granted patents in the three regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Medulloblastoma (MB) is a highly malignant neuroepithelial tumor occurring in the central nervous system. The objective of this study was to establish an effective prognostic nomogram to predict the overall survival (OS) of MB patients. Materials and methods: The nomogram was developed using data from a retrospective cohort of 280 medulloblastoma patients (aged 3–18 years) identified from Beijing Tiantan Hospital between 2016 and 2021 as the training cohort. To validate the performance of the nomogram, collaborations were formed with eight leading pediatric oncology centers across different regions of China. A total of 162 medulloblastoma patients meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled from these collaborating centers. Cox regression analysis, best subsets regression, and Lasso regression were employed to select independent prognostic factors. The nomogram’s prognostic effectiveness for overall survival was assessed using the concordance index, receiver operating characteristic curve, and calibration curve. Results: In the training cohort, the selected variables through COX regression, best subsets regression, and Lasso regression, along with their clinical significance, included age, molecular subtype, histological type, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, metastasis, and hydrocephalus. The internally and externally validated C-indexes were 0.907 and 0.793, respectively. Calibration curves demonstrated the precise prediction of 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS for MB patients using the nomogram. Conclusion: This study developed a nomogram that incorporates clinical and molecular factors to predict OS prognosis in medulloblastoma patients. The nomogram exhibited improved predictive accuracy compared to previous studies and demonstrated good performance in the external validation cohort. By considering multiple factors, clinicians can utilize this nomogram as a valuable tool for individualized prognosis prediction and treatment decision-making in medulloblastoma patients. Background: Creativity and self-directed learning (SDL) are prominent for undergraduate healthcare students to provide quality patient care in an increasingly complex healthcare environment. Research suggested that SDL is linked with creativity, yet the mechanism underlying the relationship between SDL and creativity has not been fully understood. Objective: This study examined the relationship between SDL and creativity and constructed a chain mediation model to identify the mediating effect of openness to diversity and challenge (ODC) and creative self-efficacy (CSE). Methods: Through convenience sampling, 575 healthcare undergraduates (average age = 19.28 years, SD = 1.124 years) were surveyed from Shandong Province in China. Creativity, SDL, ODC, and CSE were assessed using corresponding scales. Pearson’s correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis, a serial multiple mediation analysis, and bias-corrected percentile Bootstrap method were conducted by using structural equation modeling by AMOS 26.0. Results: The direct path between SDL and creativity was significant. SDL can positively predict both ODC and CSE, and the latter two variables can significantly and positively predict creativity. ODC and CSE played a significant partial mediating role in the relationship between SDL and creativity. The mediating effect consists of three indirect effects: SDL → ODC → creativity (the mediating effect value is 0.193, p = 0.012), SDL → CSE → creativity (the mediating effect value is 0.096，p = 0.001), and SDL → ODC → CSE → creativity (the mediating effect value is 0.035, p = 0.031). Conclusion: SDL can positively predict creativity. ODC and CSE had significant mediating effects between SDL and creativity, including single partial mediating effects of ODC and CSE and chain mediating effects of ODC-CSE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Germplasm resources are the source of herbal medicine production. The cultivation of superior germplasm resources helps to resolve the conflict between long-term population persistence and growing market demand by consistently producing materials with high quality. The fern species Cibotium barometz is the original plant of cibotii rhizoma ("Gouji"), a traditional Chinese medicine used in the therapy of pain, weakness, and numbness in the lower extremities. Long-history medicinal use has caused serious wild population decline in China. Without sufficient understanding of the species and lineage diversity of Cibotium, it is difficult to propose a targeted conservation scheme at present, let alone select high-quality germplasm resources. In order to fill such a knowledge gap, this study sampled C. barometz and relative species throughout their distribution in China, performed genome skimming to obtain plastome data, and conducted phylogenomic analyses. We constructed a well-supported plastome phylogeny of Chinese Cibotium, which showed that three species with significant genetic differences are distributed in China, namely C. barometz, C. cumingii, and C. sino-burmaense sp. nov., a cryptic species endemic to NW Yunnan and adjacent regions of NE Myanmar. Moreover, our results revealed two differentiated lineages of C. barometz distributed on the east and west sides of a classic phylogeographic boundary that was probably shaped by monsoons and landforms. We also evaluated the resolution of nine traditional barcode loci and designed five new DNA barcodes based on the plastome sequence that can distinguish all these species and lineages of Chinese Cibotium accurately. These novel findings on a genetic basis will guide conservation planners and medicinal plant breeders to build systematic conservation plans and exploit the germplasm resources of Cibotium in China. Metal pollution may lead to a variety of diseases; for this reason, it has become a matter of public concern worldwide. However, it is necessary to use biomonitoring approaches to assess the risks posed to human health by metals. In this study, the concentrations of 14 metal elements in 181 urine samples obtained from the general population of Gansu Province, China, were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Eleven out of fourteen target elements had detection frequencies above 85%, namely, Cr, Ni, As, Se, Cd, Al, Fe, Cu and Rb. The concentrations of most metal elements in the urine of our subjects corresponded to the medium levels of subjects in other regional studies. Gender exerted a significant influence (p < 0.05) on the concentrations of Tl, Rb and Zn. The concentrations of Ni, As, Pb, Sr, Tl, Zn, Cu and Se showed significant differences among different age groups and the age-related concentration trends varied among these elements. There were significant differences in the urine concentrations of Zn and Sr between those subjects in the group who were frequently exposed to soil (exposed soil > 20 min/day) and those in the group who were not, indicating that people in regular contact with soil may be more exposed to metals. Background: Youth football in schools has experienced rapid growth in China. Despite the increase of players engaging in more frequent, intensive, and organized sports training at their early ages, the controversy over early specialization (ES) still exists. This study aims to: a) investigate the training situation of players in the Chinese School Football Programme and b) examine the associations of early specialization, sports volume, and maturity status with musculoskeletal injury. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was used. Players who participated in the National School Football Winter Camp were invited to fill out a questionnaire that included the data of maturity, ES, sports volume, and injury history (n = 88 boys and n = 90 girls). Results: The results have shown that 80.3% of the athletes were classified as ES, while 19.7% of them were classified as non-ES. Almost all athletes (96%) participated in a sport for more than 8 months in a year. Most athletes (75.8%) spent more than twice of the time on organized sports than leisure activities. 30.3% of the athletes trained on average more hours per week than the number of their ages. Binomial logistic regression models reflected the significant differences in the odds ratios (OR) of reporting a history of injury among athletes with different levels of specialization (p = 0.024) and the OR of reporting a history of leg injury among players with different weekly sports volumes (p = 0.038). Significant differences were also shown in the OR of players reporting foot injuries between players with different maturity states (p = 0.046), and the Chi-squared test showed significant differences in the OR of reporting acute injuries between players with different levels of specialization (p = 0.048) and weekly activity (p = 0.022). No significant differences were found between the remaining variables. Conclusion: Most school football elite players follow the ES pathway even though ES increases the risk of injury, especially acute injury. Pre-pubertal and early pubertal players have a higher incidence of foot injuries. Players who train more hours per week than their ages have more leg injuries and acute injuries. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2019, this paper uses a two-stage DEA model to measure regional innovation efficiency, then non-parametric test is used to examine the impact of innovation network structure and government R&D investment on regional innovation efficiency. The results show that, at the provincial level, innovation efficiency of regional R&D is not necessarily in direct proportion to the innovation efficiency in the commercialization stage. Commercialization efficiency is not necessarily high in provinces with high technical R&D efficiency. At the national level, the innovation efficiency gap between our country's R&D and commercialization stage is small, indicating that the development of the national innovation efficiency is more and more balanced. Innovation network structure can promote the R&D efficiency, but has no significant effect on the commercialization efficiency. Government R&D investment helps to improve the R&D efficiency, but it is not conducive to the improvement of commercialization efficiency. The interaction between innovation network structure and government R&D investment will have compound effects on regional innovation efficiency; the region with underdeveloped innovation network structure can increase the government R&D investment to make it have a higher level of R&D. Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the genomic epidemiology of human adenoviruses (HAdVs) in Hubei, China, using metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). Methods: In total, 25 HAdV-positive samples collected from 21 pediatric patients were sequenced and subjected to mNGS using the NextSeq 550 and GenoLab M sequencing platforms. The metagenomic data were assembled de novo for molecular typing, phylogenetic and recombination analyzes. Results: We assembled 50 HAdV genomes, 88% (22/25) genomes from GenoLab M, and 84% (21/25) genomes from NextSeq 550 have perfect alignments to reference genomes with greater than 90%. The most fully assembled 25 genomes were categorized into 7 HAdV genotypes, the most abundant of which were HAdV-B3 (9/25) and HAdV-C2 (6/25). Phylogenetic analyzes revealed that the newly isolated HAdV-B3 strains diverged into separate clusters according to their genotypes. Vigilance is needed that HAdV-B3 isolates have begun to form new distinct clusters. High nucleotide identity was observed in the whole genome level within the same HAdV genotypes, while marked differences of three capsid genes across HAdV genotypes were noted. The high nucleotide diversity regions were concordant with the reported hypervariable regions. Further, three recombinant strains were identified: S64 and S71 originated from the parental strains HAdV-B14 and HAdV-B11, and S28 originated from HAdV-C1, HAdV-C5, and HAdV-CBJ113. GenoLab M and NextSeq 550 showed comparable performance with respect to data yield, duplication rate, human ratio, and assembly completeness. Conclusion: The sequencing quality and assembly accuracy showed that mNGS assembled genomes can be used for subsequently HAdV genotyping and genomic characterization. The main purpose of the paper is to investigate the relationship between technological innovation and income inequality for China based on the financial Kuznets curve (FKC) hypothesis. The study uses time-series data from 1985 to 2019. We employ the Johansen cointegration, ARDL model and VECM Granger causality techniques to analyze the links between the variables. We also use the DOLS, FMOLS and CCR mechanisms to estimate the long-run parameters. The paper finds that the FKC is valid for China's economy in the long run. Technological innovation positively affects the urban-rural income gap, while there is an inverted-U shaped between financial development and the urban-rural income gap. The relationship between financial development and the urban-rural income gap is bi-directional causality. Technological innovation and the urban-rural income gap cause each other. Empirical results suggest a twofold policy meaning: i) to further the financial system and ii) to eliminate the adverse impacts of technological innovations on income distribution. A new species, Lysimachia fenghwaiana G.Hao & H.F.Yan (Primulaceae), from Hunan Province, China, is described and illustrated. This new species belongs to Lysimachia subgen. Lysimachia sect. Nummularia and is morphologically similar to L. crista-galli and L. carinata, but is distinctive in its leaf shape and arrangement of flowers. It can be further distinguished from L. crista-galli by the absence of calyx lobule spur, and from L. carinata by the black glandular striates in the corolla lobes, rather than punctate. Granite is the main carrier of geothermal energy of hot dry rock. Therefore, the study of influence of different temperatures on the physical-mechanical properties and energy evolution characteristics of granite after high temperature treatment is an important way to guide the successful exploitation of hot dry rock geothermal resources. Physical tests and uniaxial compression tests were carried out on granite after high temperature treatment ranging from 25-350 °C. The results show that change rates in volume, mass, density, P-wave velocity and porosity of granite increase with increasing temperature. The research results can provide basic data support for the safe and efficient development of hot dry rock in China, and also develop the theory of high temperature rock mechanics. Background: This paper is to explore the composition and antibiotic resistance of pathogens isolated from blood cultures of patients with bloodstream infection (BSI) in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: A retrospective study has been performed to identify the pathogens isolated from blood cultures of 147 patients with BSI in the ICU of our Hospital over 12 years (January 2008 to December 2019). The antibiotic resistance and susceptibility of the isolates were tested. Results: Among the 152 pathogens isolated from positive blood cultures, 61.84% were Gram-positive bacteria, 34.87% were Gram-negative bacteria, and 3.29% were fungi. The most frequently isolated pathogens were coagulase-negative Staphylococci, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli. The pathogen distributions remained stable over 12 years. Gram-positive cocci were highly susceptible to vancomycin, linezolid, and teicoplanin. Extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing pathogens were highly susceptible to amikacin, imipenem, meropenem, and polymyxin B. Acinetobacter were relatively sensitive to amikacin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and polymyxin, whereas Pseudomonas aeruginosa were sensitive to amikacin, gentamicin, levofloxacin, imipenem, meropenem, and ciprofloxacin, with resistance rates less than 30%. Conclusions: Gram-positive bacteria were the dominant pathogens isolated from blood cultures of ICU-BSI patients and were susceptible to vancomycin, linezolid, and teicoplanin. The antibiotic susceptibility of Gram-negative bacteria varies greatly. Our results provide important information to guide the treatment decisions in the management of ICU-BSIs. Background: Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is an increasingly serious global issue. DR-TB has a lower success rate and more severe interruption of treatment than ordinary tuberculosis. Incomplete treatment not only reduces recovery rate in DR-TB patients but also increases the spread of DR-TB. Optimizing medical security policies for DR-TB can reduce the economic burden of patients and can thereby improve treatment success rate. Methods: Patients with DR-TB who were registered in Wuhan Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention from January 2016 to December 2019 were selected as research subjects. General descriptive statistical analysis methods were used in analyzing patients' treatment outcomes and medical security compensation rate. The binary logistic regression was used in analyzing the impacts of medical security level on treatment outcomes of DR-TB. Results: A total of 409 DR-TB patients were included in the study, and the refusal rate was 12.47%. The treatment success rate was only 37.09% for patients who started treatment and had treatment outcomes. The total out-of-pocket expenses (OOPs) per capita for DR-TB patients were 13,005.61 Chinese yuan. The outpatient effective compensation ratio (ECR) of DR-TB patients was only 51.04%. The outpatient ECR of DR-TB with subsidies of public health projects (SPHPs) were nearly 80% higher than those without SPHP. high outpatient ECR helped optimize treatment outcomes (P < 0.001, OR = 1.038). The inpatient ECR had no effect on patients' treatment outcomes (P = 0.158, OR = 0.986). Conclusion: Many DR-TB patients did not receive complete treatment. The key breakthrough point in improving DR-TB treatment outcomes is to optimize the outpatient medical insurance compensation policy. Including the costs of DR-TB in expenses for severe diseases in outpatient care is recommended, and financial investment should be appropriately increased to ensure the high coverage ratio of subsidies for public health projects. Excessive iodine can lead to goiters. However, the relationship between the water iodine concentration (WIC) and goiter rate (GR) is unclear. This study aims to explore the factors that influence children's GR in areas with high WIC and analyse the threshold value of the GR increase associated with the WIC. According to the monitoring of the areas with high WIC in China in 2018–2020, a total of 54 050 children in eight high water iodine provinces were chosen. Drinking water, urine and edible salt samples of children were collected. The thyroid volume (Tvol) was measured. A generalised additive model (GAM) was used to analyse the relationship between the WIC and GR in children. Among the 54 050 children in areas with high WIC, the overall GR was 3·34 %, the median of water iodine concentration was 127·0 µg/l, the median of urinary iodine concentration was 318 µg/l and the non-iodised salt coverage rate (NISCR) was 63·51 %. According to the GAM analysis results, water iodine and urinary iodine are factors that influence the Tvol and GR, while the NISCR affects only the GR. When the WIC was more than 420 µg/l or the urinary iodine concentration was more than 800 µg/l, the GR increased rapidly. When the NISCR reached more than 85 %, the GR was the lowest. Thus, in areas with high WIC, WIC more than 420 µg/l may increase the risk of goiter, and the NISCR should be increased to over 85 % to avoid goiters in children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It has been unclear whether Holocene lake evolution in the Badain Jaran Desert of northwestern China, an area in which lakes are mainly recharged by groundwater, responded to climate change. In this study, we analyzed the Mg/Ca ratio and phytolith assemblages from 10 Holocene calcareous root tube samples from the desert to reconstruct changes in effective moisture and mean annual precipitation (MAP) at the millennial scale during the Holocene and to explore the factors affecting lake evolution. Our results revealed that the effective moisture at 7000-5000 cal yr BP was higher than that of 5000-2000 cal yr BP. Similarly, the MAP was higher at 7000-5000 cal yr BP (175 ± 37 to 205 ± 37 mm) than at 5000-2000 cal yr BP (145 ± 37 to 165 ± 39 mm). The expansion of the lakes during the Early Holocene would have resulted from the input of groundwater from the meltwater in the recharge area. High lake levels in the Middle Holocene corresponded to increased monsoonal precipitation and groundwater recharge. Phoebe bournei (Hemsl.) Yang is used as a commercial wood in China and is enlisted as a near-threatened species. Prolonged droughts pose a serious threat to young seedlings (1-2 years old). A transcriptome sequencing approach, together with the measurement of growth parameters and biochemical analyses were used to understand P. bournei's drought responses on 15d, 30d, and 45d of drought stress treatment. The stem and root dry weights decreased significantly with drought stress duration. Activities of antioxidative enzymes i.e., peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) increased significantly with the increase in drought stress duration. A total of 13,274, 15,648, and 9,949 genes were differentially expressed in CKvs15d, CKvs30d, and CKvs45d, respectively. The differential expression analyses showed that photosystem I and II underwent structural changes, chlorophyll biosynthesis, and photosynthesis were reduced. The genes annotated as POD, SOD, and CAT were upregulated in droughttreated leaves as compared to control. Additionally, plant-hormone signal transduction, MAPK signaling-plant, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, flavonoid biosynthesis, and starch and sucrose metabolism pathways showed large-scale expression changes in major genes. We also found that members of 25 transcription factor families were differentially expressed. Our study presents and discusses these transcriptome signatures. Employability of college students has been attached great importance by higher education institutions, employers, and governments because college graduates are the strategic human resource for the sustainable growth of universities, organizations, and countries across the world. It is also receiving growing attention from academic community. This study aimed to examine the psychological mechanism that impacts college students' employability. It adopted an empirical approach by collecting data from 646 final-year students from 9 universities in the mainland of China. SPSS 25.0 was used for description, correlation, and regression analysis. AMOS 24.0 was utilized for path analysis. Model 6 Bootstrap method of PROCESS Version 3.5 was adopted for mediation analysis. The results showed that achievement motivation positively predicted self-efficacy, academic performance, and employability among undergraduates. Participants' self-efficacy did not significantly impact their employability or play a mediating role in the relationship between achievement motivation and employability, while academic performance was a significant mediator of this association. Self-efficacy and academic performance served as chain mediators in the prediction of achievement motivation on college students' employability. After controlling gender and family residence, achievement motivation still had significant and positive impact on employability of college students. This research made several noteworthy contributions to the existing studies on college students' employability and provided insight for practitioners in strengthening their employability through these psychological constructs. Objective: To evaluate the correlation between abdominal aortic atherosclerotic lumen distortion and atherosclerosis risk in vascular branches in older adults by dual-source computed tomography (CT). Methods: CT angiography data of 275 patients with abdominal aortic atherosclerosis in our hospital were collected to record vascular distortion and compare the involvement of the celiac trunk branch, superior mesenteric artery (SMA), bilateral renal artery (RA), and inferior mesenteric artery. Study participants were grouped as follows: group A (age, 65-74 years; n = 68), group B (age, 75-85 years old; n = 123), and group C (age, > 85 years old; n = 84). Results: The rate of arterial distortion in senile abdominal aortic atherosclerosis was 44.4% (122 cases), which was positively correlated with age (r = 0.759, p < 0.05). SMA and RA involvement were highest in all age groups (61.5% and 77.0%, respectively), and distortion did not occur in 153 cases (55.6%). There was no significant correlation between the incidence of branch lesions and patient age (r = 0.354, p < 0.05), although age was associated with the degree of the lesion. Conclusions: The risk of secondary atherosclerosis in the vascular branches of older adult patients with abdominal aortic atherosclerosis increases with age. Soil salinization is a major ecological threat to crop growth and production. Biochar addition can alleviate the negative impacts of saline-sodic stress in crops. Here, a two-year field experiment was conducted in a highly saline-sodic paddy field to evaluate the response of soil physico-chemical properties, ionic concentration, and rice yield to biochar applications. The soil was amended with peanut shell biochar as follows: zero biochar (B0), 33.75 t ha−1 (B1), 67.5 t ha−1 (B2), and 101.25 t ha−1 (B3). Biochar significantly reduced soil bulk density (BD), while it markedly increased total porosity (TP) and saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks). Furthermore, biochar markedly decreased the Na+ concentration, Na+ /K+ ratio, Na+ /Ca2+ ratio, HCO3 -, and CO3 2- while it increased the concentrations of K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ . Biochar significantly decreased the electrical conductivity of soil saturation extract (ECe). The exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) of B1, B2, and B3 were 53.6%, 62.3%, and 71.0% lower, respectively, than that of B0, and the corresponding decrease in sodium adsorption ratio (SARe) was 51.2%, 58.1%, and 60.5%. Biochar had no effect on the soil pH but significantly increased the soil cation exchange capacity (CEC). This study is the first to analyse the daily cycle of melatonin in Dybowski's frogs (Rana dybowskii), a species with economic importance in north-eastern China. The concentrations of melatonin in the serum, whole brain, and liver, skin, and retinal tissue samples collected from Dybowski's frogs were measured using highperformance liquid chromatography every 4 h over a 24 h cycle. A significant melatonin peak (P< 0.05) was observed at 00:00 in the serum samples (203.25 ± 5.06 ng/L). This peak was synchronised with peak melatonin concentrations in the retinal (1513.25 ± 3.15 ng/L), liver (49.34 ± 3.67 ng/L), and whole brain (426.85 ± 6.85 ng/L) tissue samples, although melatonin concentrations in skin tissue samples peaked at 12:00 (270.02 ± 4.60 ng/L). Therefore, the time of day should be considered when examining the physiological status of this frog, given the potential effects of fluctuating daily melatonin concentrations on physiological variables. Diazinon is one of the most widely used organophosphate insecticides, one that is frequently detected in the environment. In this study, a diazinondegrading bacterium, DI-6, previously isolated from diazinon-contaminated soil in China has been subsequently identified as Sphingobium sp. on the basis of its physiological and biochemical characteristics, as well as by virtue of a comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences. This strain is capable of using diazinon as its sole carbon source for growth and was able to degrade 91.8% of 100 mg L−1 diazinon over a 60-h interval. During the degradation of diazinon, the following seven metabolites were captured and identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis: diazoxon, diazinon aldehyde, isopropenyl derivative of diazinon, hydroxyethyl derivative of diazinon, diazinon methyl ketone, O-[2-(1-hydroxyethyl)-6- methylpyrimidin-4-yl] O-methyl O-hydrogen phosphorothioate, and O-(6- methyl pyrimidin-4-yl) O,O-dihydrogen phosphorothioate. Based on these metabolites, a novel microbial biodegradation pathway of diazinon by Sphingobium sp. DI-6 is proposed. Background: Glycogen storage disease (GSDs) is characterized by abnormally inherited glycogen metabolism. GSD IXd, which is caused by mutations in the PHKA1 gene, is an X-linked rare disease with mild myopathic symptoms. To date, only 13 patients with GSD IXd have been reported. In this study, we aimed to expand the clinicopathological-genetic spectrum of GSD IXd at a neuromuscular center in China. Methods: Data on patients diagnosed with GSD IXd at our neuromuscular center were collected retrospectively. Clinical features, electrophysiology, muscle pathology, and genetic information were analyzed. Results: Between 2015 and 2021, three patients were diagnosed with GSD IXd based on clinical manifestations, pathological findings, and genetic testing. One patient presented with mitochondrial myopathy. All patients exhibited muscle weakness and elevated levels of creatine kinase. Electromyography-detected myopathic changes were found in two patients, whereas one patient refused to undergo this examination. Pathological examinations in all patients revealed subsarcolemmal accumulation of glycogen under PAS staining. All patients had mutations in the PHKA1 gene and the patient with mitochondrial myopathy also had a mutation in the MT-TL1 gene. Conclusion: Our study expands the clinicogenotype and phenotype of GSD IXd in a Chinese population. Human thermal comfort measures the combined effects of temperature, humidity, and wind speed, etc., and can be aggravated under the influences of global warming and local human activities. With the most rapid urbanization and the largest population, China is being severely threatened by aggravating human thermal stress. However, the variations of thermal stress in China at a fine scale have not been fully understood. This gap is mainly due to the lack of a high-resolution gridded dataset of human thermal indices. Here, we generate the first high spatial resolution (1 km-1 km) dataset of monthly human thermal index collection (HiTIC-Monthly) over China from 2003 to 2020. In this collection, 12 commonly used thermal indicators are generated by the LGBM machine learning algorithm from multisource gridded data, including MODIS land surface temperature, topography, land cover and land use, population density, and impervious surface fraction. Their accuracies were comprehensively assessed based on observations at 2419 weather stations across the mainland of China. The results show that our dataset has desirable performance, with mean R2, root mean square error, mean absolute error, and bias of 0.996, 0.693°C, 0.512°C, and 0.003°C, respectively, by averaging the 12 indicators. Moreover, the predictions exhibit high agreements with observations across spatial and temporal dimensions, demonstrating the broad applicability of our dataset. The comparison with two existing datasets also suggests that our high-resolution dataset can describe a more explicit spatial distribution of the thermal information, showing great potentials in fine-scale (e.g., intra-urban) study. Further investigation reveals that nearly all indicators exhibit increasing trends in most parts of China during the year 2003~2020. The increase is especially stronger in North China, Southwest China, the Tibetan Plateau, and parts of Northwest China, and in the spring and summer seasons. The rapid popularity of government social media has generated huge amounts of text data, and the analysis of these data has gradually become the focus of digital government research. This study uses Python language to analyze the big data of the Chinese provincial government Weibo. First, this study uses a web crawler approach to collect and statistically describe over 360,000 data from 31 provincial government microblogs in China, covering the period from January 2018 to April 2022. Second, a word separation engine is constructed and these text data are analyzed using word cloud word frequencies as well as semantic relationships. Finally, the text data were analyzed for sentiment using natural language processing methods, and the text topics were studied using LDA algorithm. The results of this study show that, first, the number and scale of posts on the Chinese government Weibo have grown rapidly. Second, government Weibo has certain social attributes, and the epidemics, people's livelihood, and services have become the focus of government Weibo. Third, the contents of government Weibo account for more than 30% of negative sentiments. The classified topics show that the epidemics and epidemic prevention and control overshadowed the other topics, which inhibits the diversification of government Weibo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main purpose of this article is to investigate the impact of the optimum level of cash holdings on corporate performance. Moreover, in this paper, the impact of financial constraints is tested as moderating factor between the relationship of cash holdings and corporate performance. The present study uses the system generalized method of moments (GMM) as the main estimation methodology. Using a sample of companies listed on stock exchanges of China, empirical pieces of evidence find that cash holdings-corporate performance relation is a nonlinear concave and depicts similar evidence for firms with financial constraints. The financially constrained firms maintain optimal cash holding at a higher level, which corresponds to debt rationing, difficulty to access financial markets, and the high cost of external finance. Moreover, propensity-score-matching depicts statistically significant differences in the level of cash holdings amid financially constrained and unconstrained firms. Purpose: Pollen sensitization is increasing in children. However, there is little evidence regarding the characteristics of anaphylaxis in individuals with pollen sensitization. Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of patients with anaphylaxis combined with pollen sensitization who attended an allergy department in a tertiary children's hospital from 2014 to 2021. Results: A total of 157 anaphylaxis events in 108 patients were analyzed; the mean age at the reaction was 5.8 ± 4.17 years. A total of 99.1% (107/108) of the patients came from northern China. The most common sensitizing pollen was mugwort (93.5%,101/108), followed by ragweed (68.5%, 74/108) and birch (40.7%, 44/108). A total of 76.9% (83/108) of the patients showed polysensitization to pollen. Allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis was the most common comorbidity (87.0%, 94/108). Children with severe anaphylaxis were more likely to have a history of recurrent urticaria (16.1% vs 3.9%, p = 0.028). The most frequently implicated foods were fruits/vegetables (22.3%, 35/157), followed by wheat (8.9%, 14/157) and milk (8.3%, 13/157), and the most common fruit allergen was peach (n = 7). Of 14% (22/157) exercise-induced reactions, 63.6% (14/22) occurred in pollen season. Skin symptoms were the most frequent (86.0%, 135/157) symptoms, followed by respiratory (73.9%, 116/157) and gastrointestinal (21%, 33/157) symptoms. Regarding acute management, only 7.4% of the patients were treated with epinephrine. Conclusion: Our findings revealed the characteristics of anaphylaxis in children with pollen sensitization. Fruits/vegetables accounted for a substantial percentage of anaphylaxis triggers. The suboptimal use of epinephrine highlights the need for educational programs promoting the use of epinephrine. PM2.5-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with adverse effect on human and ecosystem health is of concern worldwide. In this study, they were measured in summer and winter at an urban site in Chongqing, a megacity of southwest China to investigate their potential sources, to evaluate the inhalation cancer risks and to identify the dominant source responsible for health risk. The mean concentration of total PAHs was 9.67 ± 2.53 ng/m3 in summer, much lower than that in winter (49.6 ± 16.5 ng/m3). The source apportionment method of Positive Matrix Factorization combined with diagnostic ratios was successfully applied in this study and identified coal combustion and vehicle emission (contributing to 56% of the total PAHs mass), biomass burning (21%) and volatilization (23%) as the potential sources of PM2.5-bound PAHs in Chongqing. Regional transport from southern and southeastern regions have contributed to the elevated PM2.5-bound PAHs in summer while local and nearby areas acted as main source regions in winter mainly due to the specific topographic and meteorological conditions in Chongqing. Daily Benzo[a]pyrene equivalent (BaPeq) concentrations (2.47–17.9 ng/m3) during 97% of the winter campaign exceeded the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (2.5 ng/m3). Furthermore, the lifetime cancer risk (LCR) values denoted a high potential cancer risk in winter, especially during aerosol pollution period. The contribution from the mixed source of coal combustion and vehicle emission (64%) to LCR was higher than that to the mass concentration while that of biomass burning (13%) was lower, which may result from the emission of higher toxic compounds from the mixed source. Elevated contribution from the mixed source was observed in winter especially during pollution days, indicating the significance of controlling the sources with high health risks. In China, historical documents have recorded large quantities of information related to natural disasters, and these disasters have had long-lasting effects on economic and social activities. Understanding the occurrence of the natural disasters and their spatio-temporal variation characters is crucial for sustainable of our society. Therefore, based on the collection and collation of historical documents, and adopting mathematical statistics, Kriging interpolation, correlation analysis and other methods, we systematically explored the meteorological disasters in Henan Province during the past two millennia in analyzing their spatio-temporal distribution characters and driving forces. The results demonstrate that there were five major types of meteorological disasters in Henan Province, including drought, flood, hails, low temperature and frost and insect pests, which presented obvious spatio-temporal variations and have occurred frequently during the past two millennia. According to the historical documents, the major meteorological disasters occurred 1,929 times in Henan from 221 BCE to 2000 CE. On the whole, the disaster frequency show that the occurrence cycle of the meteorological disasters has obvious changes, which mainly occurred in the middle and late stages during the past two millennia, especially after 1300 CE. Furthermore, we also find that the variation of meteorological disaster events is consistent with the variation of temperature in eastern China and the frequency of meteorological disaster increases in the cold period, but decreases in the warm period. In addition, there are obvious differences in the spatial distribution of the major meteorological disaster, which were mainly distributed in the northwest and southern part region of the Henan Province before 1911 CE. While after 1911 CE, the northern and southeastern parts were the meteorological disaster-prone areas in this region during this period. Spatial correlation analysis of each meteorological disaster before and after 1911 CE points out the droughts disaster frequency-occurring district has transferred in different periods, while the hail and low temperature and frost disasters just have a smaller transferred during these two periods. Conversely, the frequency-occurring districts of floods and insect pest disasters have no obviously transferred in different periods. Background: Medical insurance and social security cards are an important incentive for the floating population to live a stable life in their current residence, but there has been little studies on their effect on settlement intentions. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to study the impact of basic medical insurance for urban employees and application for personal social security cards on the settlement intentions of the floating population. With the increase of the desire to settle, the health management and the development of public health will be improved. Methods: Based on the 2017 survey data from the dynamic monitoring of China's floating population, we explored the influence of basic medical insurance for urban employees and social security cards on the floating population's settlement intentions. Additionally, this study also examined the comprehensive causal relationship, with social integration as the mediator variable. We used SPSS 21.0 software. The input method was used to analyze the influence of the above variables by binary logistic regression. Then we used AMOS22.0 software to establish the structural equation model of the relationship between the above three independent variables. Finally, we used bootstrapping method to analyze the direct effect, indirect effect and total effect of independent variables on settlement intention. Results: The settlement intention of members of the floating population after participating in basic medical insurance for urban employees was 23.2% higher than that of those who did not participate. The decision as to whether to apply for a personal social security card is related to their settlement intention. The standardized regression coefficients among social insurance and security, social integration, and settlement intention were positive values, and the Z values of the overall effect, indirect effect, and direct effect were all greater than 1.96; the confidence interval of the indirect effect did not include 0. We found that this model is a partial intermediary model, with an intermediary ratio of 10.66%. Conclusions: This article highlights the important impact of basic medical insurance for urban employees and individual social security cards on the floating population. The conclusions of this study provide suggestions for the government to use when designing policies to enhance the settlement intentions of the floating population and to improve the development of public health undertakings. The genus Hemileccinum belongs to the subfamily Xerocomoideae of the family Boletaceae. In this study, phylogenetic inferences of Hemileccinum based on sequences of a single-locus (ITS) and a multi-locus (nrLSU, tef1-α, rpb1, rpb2) were conducted. Four new species, namely H. abidum, H. brevisporum, H. ferrugineipes and H. parvum were delimited and proposed based on morphological and molecular evidence. Descriptions and line-drawings of them were presented, as well as their comparisons to allied taxa. Our study shed new light on the recognition of the genus. The pileipellis of the species in this genus should mostly be regarded as (sub)epithelium to hyphoepithelium, because the pileipellis of most studied species here is composed of short inflated cells in the inner layer (subpellis) and filamentous hyphae in outer layer (suprapellis). Until recently, the causal agent of Botryosphaeria canker was assumed to differ from that causing ring rot on fruit and warts on branches on apple trees in China and East Asia. However, recent research documented that Botryosphaeria dothidea caused both disease symptoms on apple. Inoculations with strains isolated from cankers and warts on branches were conducted to investigate symptom progression caused by B. dothidea and conditions inducing the two symptom types. The results confirmed that both cankers and warts are caused by B. dothidea. Warts are the results of hyperplasia and suberization of bark tissues induced by fungal infection, whereas cankers result from the rapid growth of hyphae from inside warts, lenticels, or wounds. Resistance to B. dothidea exists in living apple branches. When a living branch is infected via lenticels, the pathogen induces proliferation and suberization of cortical cells that restricts the growth and expansion of the hyphae, leading to warts. However, under certain stress conditions such as drought, the hyphae inside host tissues expand rapidly and kill cortical cells, leading to canker development. Host resistance may recover during active growth periods, which suppresses or even stops rapid expansion of the hyphae, leading to the intermediate symptom of canker warts. Abiotic factors, such as drought or high temperature in early spring, can result in rapid extension of colonized hyphae in branches and conversion of warts to cankers. As a convenient and efficient public transport system, high speed railway (HSR) was rapidly deployed in China. Since the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication system is commercially applied, it is necessary for mobile terminals antennas to cover multiple operating bands to be compatible with various communication systems. Here a HSR-mounted broadband and high-gain monopole antenna is proposed. By using the meander technology and introducing the tapered structure, the proposed antenna operates over a bandwidth of 694-960 MHz and 1350-5975 MHz (VSWR<1.8), which covers both 2G-5G mobile communication and WiFi frequency bands. OBJECTIVE: To investigate prostate cancer detection rate of different biopsy protocols in different PSA value groups in rural China. METHODS: A total of 186 patients underwent contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in order to determine the puncture target prior to biopsy were enrolled in this retrospective study. All patients underwent 12-core SB combined with CEUS-TB. The biopsy results of different biopsy protocols were compared in patients with stratification by PSA value. RESULTS: Among the 186 patients underwent prostate biopsy, the histopathologic results revealed prostate cancer (PCa) in 117 cases (62.9%) and benign lesions in 69 cases (37.1%). The PCa detection rate between 8-core SB and 12-core SB showed no significant difference in PSA 4–10 ng/ml group, while the 12-core SB was significantly higher than CEUS-TB (44.9% versus 32.7%, P = 0.01). In PSA 10–20 ng/ml group, the significant difference was not seen between SB and CEUS-TB (50.0% versus 45.7%, P = 0.15). As for PSA greater than 20 ng/ml group, the PCa detection rate by SB was higher than CEUS-TB, but showed no statistically significance (79.1% versus 76.9%, P = 0.15). In the overall patients, the biopsy core positive rate of CEUS-TB was significantly higher than SB (97% versus 55.5% and 28.5%, P = 0.0001). CONCLUSION: The flexible use of SB combined with CEUS-TB can reduce the number of biopsy cores in higher PSA groups. River regulations and changing land management practices are generally perceived to be the dominant drivers of river flood changes in countries with rapid economic growth, such as China. Here, we demonstrate based on the most comprehensive flood database to date, that climate variations dominate the spatial pattern of changes in annual flood peak discharge in China, despite intense human alterations of the river and land systems over the past four decades. Regional flood increases are mainly associated with increasing precipitation due to changes in the East Asian Summer Monsoon, tropical cyclones and the subtropical westerly jet. Regional flood decreases are due to decreased soil moisture in the North China plain. Our results highlight the need for flood management policies to go beyond local measures and adapt to the effects of climate change. Pinus koraiensis is a well-known precious tree species in East Asia with high economic, ornamental and ecological value. More than fifty percent of the P. koraiensis forests in the world are distributed in northeast China, a region with abundant germplasm resources. However, these natural P. koraiensis sources are in danger of genetic erosion caused by continuous climate changes, natural disturbances such as wildfire and frequent human activity. Little work has been conducted on the population genetic structure and genetic differentiation of P. koraiensis in China because of the lack of genetic information. In this study, 480 P. koraiensis individuals from 16 natural populations were sampled and genotyped. Fifteen polymorphic expressed sequence tag-simple sequence repeat (EST-SSR) markers were used to evaluate genetic diversity, population structure and differentiation in P. koraiensis. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) of the EST-SSR marker data showed that 33% of the total genetic variation was among populations and 67% was within populations. A high level of genetic diversity was found across the P. koraiensis populations, and the highest levels of genetic diversity were found in HH, ZH, LS and TL populations. Moreover, pairwise Fst values revealed significant genetic differentiation among populations (mean Fst = 0.177). According to the results of the STRUCTURE and Neighbor-joining (NJ) tree analyses and principal component analysis (PCA), the studied geographical populations cluster into two genetic clusters: cluster 1 from Xiaoxinganling Mountains and cluster 2 from Changbaishan Mountains. These results are consistent with the geographical distributions of the populations. The results provide new genetic information for future genome-wide association studies (GWAS), marker-assisted selection (MAS) and genomic selection (GS) in natural P. koraiensis breeding programs and can aid the development of conservation and management strategies for this valuable conifer species. Ardisia gigantifolia is a medicinal plant; its herbal medicinal product has played important roles in the ways of life of people in China. However, commercial products of this herbal medicine are frequently adulterated with Rhododendron molle root and Clerodendrum cyrtophyllum stem. In fact, R. molle has hepatotoxic effects which could pose health issues to the end user. In this study, we applied DNA barcoding coupled with high resolution melting (Bar-HRM) to distinguish A. gigantifolia and adulterant products. Two DNA barcode loci (ITS2 and psbA-trnH) were chosen for Bar-HRM analysis. We found that ITS2 and psbA-trnH regions contain some inter-species variability, which showed enough discrimination capability for Bar-HRM analysis. We applied the Bar-HRM method to test the method, and found that some products labelled as "A. gigantifolia" collected from local markets in China were identified to contain C. cyrtophyllum. Our study demonstrated that DNA barcoding coupled with high resolution melting can be used as a routine test to guarantee the quality of A. gigantifolia herbal products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study intends to investigate the prognostic risk factors of bloodstream infection in Beijing. Methods: This study is a clinical retrospective study. Four hundred forty-six patients with community-onset bloodstream infections (COBSI), admitted to the emergency department and inpatient department of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital from January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2019, were selected as the main research objects. According to whether the patient survives for 100 days or not, 363 cases were in the survival group, and 83 cases were in the death group. By analyzing the clinical data of the two groups of patients, the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, bacterial resistance, and risk factors affecting the prognosis of the patients were analyzed. Results: A total of 446 pathogenic bacteria were isolated in this study, including 324 Gramnegative (G-) bacteria (72.6%), 121 Gram-positive (G+) bacteria (27.1%). The results of the study showed that there were significant differences in MDR, initial antibiotic use, solid tumor, CKD, septic shock, acute liver injury, AKI, central venous catheter, urinary catheter, blood replacement therapy, invasive operation, and use of three or more antibiotics between the two groups (p<0.05). The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that solid tumors (OR=3.339, 95% CI: (1.441, 7.734), p=0.005), combined septic shock (OR=20.729, 95% CI: (10.235, 41.982), p<0.001), indwelling catheters (OR=3.556, 95% CI: (1.538, 8.222), p=0.003) and continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH, OR=19.548, 95% CI: (8.724, 35.641), p=0.003) are independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of COBSI patients. Appropriate initial antibiotic therapy is a protective factor affecting the prognosis of COBSI patients. Conclusion: Solid tumors, combined septic shock, indwelling catheters, CVVH are independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of COBSI patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
