Background: Reliable data for causal implication of neonatal survival in China are lacking. We assumed that by analyzing surviving data of in-hospital neonatal care based on all livebirths in Huai’an, prevalence of neonatal morbidity, mortality and causal relations may be derived comprehensively. Materials and methods: Data of all regionally hospitalized neonates were retrospectively linked with corresponding whole livebirths (59,056) in 2015 as a cohort. Diagnoses of diseases and causes of deaths were redefined and categorized. Disease patterns, prevalence of morbidities, case-fatality rate (CFR), and cause-specific mortality rate (CSMR) referring to livebirths were presented. Perinatal and disease-specific risks of death were estimated by multivariable logistic regression. Results: In 7,960 (134.8‰) hospitalized patients, 168 (2.1%) died in hospital (2.85‰ of livebirths). Prevalence of major morbidities were 76.8‰ hyperbilirubinemia, 57.4‰ pneumonia, 32.7‰ intraventricular hemorrhage, 20.7‰ sepsis, 20.2‰ birth asphyxia, 9.69‰ congenital anomalies (CA), and 5.30‰ respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). The CFR (CSMR) of major diseases were 30.4% (0.12‰) meconium aspiration syndrome, 17.6% (0.22‰) necrotizing enterocolitis, 14.1% (0.75‰) RDS, 9.09% (0.88‰) CA, 5.26% (0.07‰) bronchopulmonary dysplasia, 1.71% (0.36‰) sepsis and 1.51% (0.31‰) asphyxia. Overall mortality rates were 4.6% and 6.8% in the preterm and low birthweight, and >50% in those of <28 week gestation or <1000 g birthweight, respectively. Mortality risks associated with the perinatal and neonatal morbidities were markedly declined with variable magnitude by multivariable regression models. Conclusions: The in-hospital neonatal survival datafile, depicted as the prevalence of major morbidities and CSMR of livebirth population in Huai’an, denoted overall and specific quality and efficiency of the perinatal-neonatal care system. Its concept and methodology should be relevant, and outcome extrapolated, to other countries or domestic regions, with similar socioeconomic development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Left‐behind children have become a particular concern in mainland China, and unintentional injury among these children has attracted increasing attention. This review aims to present the prevalence of unintentional injury among left‐behind children and subgroups in mainland China. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using four Chinese and two English databases. The included publications were cross‐sectional studies in mainland China, of which the population was recruited according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Information was collected using self‐administered questionnaires. The risk of bias was estimated using the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology, and pooled prevalence was estimated through the DerSimonian‐Laird proportion method. Results: This review included 34 cross‐sectional studies consisting 58,348 left‐behind children in mainland China. Results showed that the pooled prevalence of unintentional injury was 38.24% (95% confidence interval (CI): 28.40–48.08) among left‐behind children. The prevalence was higher among left‐behind children (38.76%) than among non‐left‐behind children (27.94%), with an odds ratio of 1.65 (95% CI: 1.47–1.85). Furthermore, the prevalence of injury was higher among boys (39.12%) than among girls (28.61%), with an odds ratio of 1.58 (95% CI: 1.41–1.77). Falls had the highest prevalence of 20.79% among the types of unintentional injury. Furthermore, home was the occurrence location with the highest prevalence (16.20%). No significant difference in injury prevalence was observed among left‐behind children without accompanying parents and those with single parent accompanying them. Conclusions: This review showed a relatively high injury prevalence among left‐behind children in mainland China. Boys had a higher prevalence than girls. Background: After the promotion of the two-child policy in recent years, the population of children in mainland China was bound to have a rapid growth, which would bring great challenges to public health. A number of cross-sectional studies on the epidemic of childhood asthma in mainland China were recently conducted, and varied prevalences were reported. Thus, knowing the epidemiology of childhood asthma in mainland China is of great necessity. Objective: Our study aimed to summarize the pooled prevalence of childhood asthma in mainland China and its time trend, gender difference, regional distribution, and age structure. Methods: Studies that reported the prevalence of childhood asthma in mainland China were identified via a systematic data base search through July 1, 2016. Meta-analysis was used to estimate the prevalence of childhood asthma and its subgroups, including gender, age groups, years, and regions. The regional distribution of the prevalence was set by province with the help of a geographic mapping software. The autoregressive integrated moving average model was used to predict the current prevalence of asthma. Results: A total of 117 studies published from 1988 to 2014 in mainland China with a total sample size of 2,678,696 were included. The overall current prevalence and lifetime prevalence of childhood asthma was 2.112% (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.977-2.247%) and 2.502% (95% CI, 2.166 -2.838%), respectively. The difference of the prevalences between male and female patients was significant: odds ratio 1.54 (95% CI, 1.47-1.62) for the current prevalence and odds ratio 1.61 (95% CI, 1.47-1.77) for the lifetime prevalence. Conclusion: The prevalence of childhood asthma in mainland China was low but has been increasing remarkably since 1998. Boys are more likely to have asthma throughout most of their childhood. Preschoolers (3-6 years old) showed a higher prevalence than the other age groups. The current prevalence of childhood asthma probably increased slightly from 2017 to 2019. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

According to the characteristics of groundwater in arid area, this paper proposes DRAV model for groundwater vulnerability assessment, where D is groundwater depth, R is the net recharge of aquifer, A is the aquifer characteristics, and V is the lithology of vadose zone. As a case study, the paper assesses the vulnerability of pore phreatic water in Tarim Basin of Xinjiang, China by using the DRAV model. The results indicate that the areas of phreatic water with vulnerability index ranges of 2–4, 4–6, 6–8 and >8 accounting for 10.1, 80.4, 9.2 and 0.2% of the total plain area of the Tarim Basin respectively, and the areas with the latter two vulnerability ranges (6–8 and >8) are mainly located in the irrigation districts with thin soil layer (20–30 cm thick surface soil of vadose zone, mainly with underlying sandy gravel) and with silty and fine sand layer. Such vadose zone generally lacks sandy loam and clayey soil and has larger recharge by infiltration of irrigation water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
