Adaptive evolution following colonization can affect the impact of invasive species. The fall webworm (FWW) invaded China 40 years ago through a single introduction event involving a severe bottleneck and subsequently diverged into two genetic groups. The well‐recorded invasion history of FWW, coupled with a clear pattern of genetic divergence, provides an opportunity to investigate whether there is any sign of adaptive evolution following the invasion. Based on genome‐wide SNPs, we identified genetically separated western and eastern groups of FWW and correlated spatial variation in SNPs with geographical and climatic factors. Geographical factors explained a similar proportion of the genetic variation across all populations compared with climatic factors. However, when the two population groups were analysed separately, environmental factors explained more variation than geographical factors. SNP outliers in populations of the western group had relatively stronger response to precipitation than temperature‐related variables. Functional annotation of SNP outliers identified genes associated with insect cuticle protein potentially related to desiccation adaptation in the western group and genes associated with lipase biosynthesis potentially related to temperature adaptation in the eastern group. Our study suggests that invasive species may maintain the evolutionary potential to adapt to heterogeneous environments despite a single invasion event. Following invasion, insects can become adapted to conditions experienced in their invasive range, but there are few studies on the speed of adaptation and its genomic basis. Here, we examine a small insect pest, Thrips palmi , following its contemporary range expansion across a sharp climate gradient from the subtropics to temperate areas. We first found a geographically associated population genetic structure and inferred a stepping-stone dispersal pattern in this pest from the open fields of southern China to greenhouse environments of northern regions, with limited gene flow after colonization. In common garden experiments, both the field and greenhouse groups exhibited clinal patterns in thermal tolerance as measured by critical thermal maximum (CTmax) closely linked with latitude and temperature variables. A selection experiment reinforced the evolutionary potential of CTmax with an estimated h 2 of 6.8% for the trait. We identified 3 inversions in the genome that were closely associated with CTmax, accounting for 49.9%, 19.6%, and 8.6% of the variance in CTmax among populations. Other genomic variations in CTmax outside the inversion region were specific to certain populations but functionally conserved. These findings highlight rapid adaptation to CTmax in both open field and greenhouse populations and reiterate the importance of inversions behaving as large-effect alleles in climate adaptation. Background: The two‐spotted spider mite (TSSM), Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae), is a cosmopolitan phytophagous pest in agriculture and horticulture. It has developed resistance to many acaricides by target‐site mutations. Understanding the status and evolution of resistant mutations in the field is essential for resistance management. Here, we applied a high‐throughput Kompetitive allele‐specific polymerase chain reaction (KASP) method for detecting six mutations conferring resistance to four acaricides of the TSSM. We genotyped 3274 female adults of TSSM from 43 populations collected across China in 2017, 2020, and 2021. Results: The KASP genotyping of 24 testing individuals showed 99% agreement with Sanger sequencing results. KASP assays showed that most populations had a high frequency of mutations conferring avermectin (G314D and G326E) and pyridaben (H92R) resistance. The frequency of mutation conferring bifenazate (A269V and G126S) and etoxazole (I1017F) resistance was relatively low. Multiple mutations were common in the TSSM, with 70.2% and 24.6% of individuals having 2–6 and 7–10 of 10 possible resistant alleles, respectively. No loci were linked in most populations among the six mutations, indicating the development of multiple resistance is mainly by independent selection. However, G314D and I1017F on the nuclear genome deviated from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium in most populations, indicating significant selective pressure on TSSM populations by acaricides or fitness cost of the mutations in the absence of acaricide selection. Conclusion: Our study revealed that the high frequency of TSSMs evolved multiple resistant mutations in population and individual levels by independent selection across China, alarming for managing multiple‐acaricides resistance. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry. As the world's most populous developing country and the world's largest carbon emitter, China has already completed its 2020 Intended National Determined Contribution set out in the Paris Agreement. It achieved this result by adopting a dual-goal strategy of economic growth and reducing carbon emission, that is, low-carbon economic growth. Based on both parametric and nonparametric methods, quantitative and qualitative conclusions about China's low-carbon economic growth are presented. It is found that since the beginning of this century, China has maintained an annual growth efficiency of 1% in low-carbon total factor productivity (TFP) and low-carbon technological progress rate. The Eastern region has leading advantages in low-carbon TFP, low-carbon technology advancement, low-carbon efficiency, and low-carbon technology revolution. It has the potential to be the first to reach its CO2 turning point. The inefficiency ratio of labor and CO2 is higher at the national level and in the Eastern region, with the two accounting for about seven tenths and eight to nine tenths, respectively. The difference is that at the national level, the input–output inefficiency is similar, and the inefficiency in the Eastern region is more from the input side, about eight tenths. At the present stage, China is still lenient in the implementation of low-carbon environmental regulations. In the future, the adjustment of low-carbon policy should pay attention to regional heterogeneity, focus on reducing labor and CO2 inefficiency, and be more stringent in policy implementation. BACKGROUND: The diamondback moth (DBM) Plutella xylostella has developed resistance to almost all insecticides used to control it. Populations of DBM in temperate regions mainly migrate from annual breeding areas. However, the distribution pattern of insecticide resistance of DBM within the context of long-distance migration remains unclear. RESULTS: In this study, we examined the frequency of 14 resistance mutations for 52 populations of DBM collected in 2010, 2011, 2017 and 2018 across China using a high-throughput KASP genotyping method. Mutations L1041F and T929I conferring pyrethroid resistance, and mutations G4946E and E1338D conferring chlorantraniliprole resistance were near fixation in most populations, whereas resistant alleles of F1020S, M918I, A309V and F1845Y were uncommon or absent in most populations. Resistance allele frequencies were relatively stable among different years, although the frequency of two mutations decreased. Principal component analysis based on resistant allele frequencies separated a southern population as an outlier, whereas the immigrants clustered with other populations, congruent with the migration pattern of northern immigrants coming from the Sichuan area of southwestern China. Most resistant mutations deviated from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium due to a lower than expected frequency of heterozygotes. The deviation index of heterozygosity for resistant alleles was significantly higher than the index obtained from single nucleotide polymorphisms across the genome. These findings suggest heterogeneous selection pressures on resistant mutations. CONCLUSION: Our results provide a picture of resistant mutation patterns in DBM shaped by insecticide usage and migration of this pest, and highlight the widespread distribution of resistance alleles in DBM. Few reports have investigated the predictive value of urinary cadmium (UCd) and telomere length on renal function impairment. Therefore, we constructed nomogram models, using a cross-sectional survey to analyze the potential function of UCd and telomere length in renal function impairment risk. We randomly selected two community populations in Shanxi, China, and general information of the subjects was collected through face-to-face questionnaire surveys. Venous blood of subjects was collected to detect absolute telomere length (ATL) by real-time quantitative chain reaction (RT-PCR). Collecting urinary samples detected UCd and urinary N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase (UNAG). Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was obtained based on serum creatinine (SCr). Nomogram models on risk prediction analysis of renal function impairment was constructed. After adjusting for other confounding factors, UCd (β = 0.853, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.739 ~ 0.986) and ATL (β = 1.803, 95%CI: 1.017 ~ 1.154) were independent risk influencing factors for increased UNAG levels, and the risk factors for eGFR reduction were UCd (β = 1.011, 95%CI: 1.187 ~ 1.471), age (β = 1.630, 95%CI: 1.303 ~ 2.038), and sex (β = 0.181, 95%CI: 0.105 ~ 0.310). Using UCd, ATL, sex, and age to construct the nomogram, and the C-statistics 0.584 (95%CI: 0.536 ~ 0.632) and 0.816 (95%CI: 0.781 ~ 0.851) were obtained by internal verification of the calibration curve, C-statistics revealed nomogram model validation was good and using decision curve analysis (DCA) confirmed a good predictive value of the nomogram models. In a nomogram model, ATL, UCd, sex, and age were detected as independent risk factors for renal function impairment, with UCd being the strongest predictor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: The western flower thrips (WFT) Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is an important invasive pest in agriculture and forestry. It has developed resistance to a frequently used pesticide spinetoram world widely, including the invading area of China. However, the mechanism of resistance to spinetoram is unclear in China. In this study, we found the presence of the G275E mutation in the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor Foα6 in the early invading populations, which has now increased to a high frequency in China. There was a correlation between the frequency of the G275E mutation and resistance to spinetoram as characterized by median lethal concentration. Our results showed that G275E mutation is one of the mechanisms conferring spinetoram resistance in invading populations in China, as in many other countries. Our study highlights the rapid spread of the G275E mutation in China in the 2009–2021 period. Field-evolved resistance to the pesticide spinetoram is an increasing problem in the chemical control of this pest. Here, we examined changes in the frequency of a genetic mutation associated with spinetoram resistance, the G275E mutation in the acetylcholine receptor Foα6, in 62 field populations collected from 2009 to 2021 across areas of China invaded by this pest. We found a low frequency of the G275E mutation in populations collected at the early invasion stage, in contrast to a high frequency in native USA populations. However, the frequency of the G275E mutation has increased to a high level in recently collected populations, with the mutation becoming fixed in some populations. There was a correlation between the frequency of the G275E mutation and resistance to spinetoram as characterized by median lethal concentration, although two populations were outliers. These results showed that G275E mutation is one of the mechanisms conferring spinetoram resistance in many invading populations in China. Ongoing dispersal of the WFT may have facilitated a rapid increase in the G275E mutation across China. A political act is a typical self-serving behavior that works to promote or protect self-interest. However, limited research explores its relationship with daily downstream behavior. Based on the ego depletion theory, the present study attempts to clarify when and how daily political acts will be transformed into interpersonal deviance. We collected 760 cases nested in 152 full time workers in mainland China through the experience sampling method. Via a multilevel structural equation model and hierarchical linear model, we tested the mediated moderation model. The results showed that political acts correlated with interpersonal deviance on a daily basis. Moral self-efficacy buffers the relationship between political acts and interpersonal deviance, whereas chronic job strain amplifies the relationship. Background: Patients with multimorbidity often experience treatment burden as a result of fragmented, specialist‐driven healthcare. The 'family doctor team' is an emerging service model in China to address the increasing need for high‐quality routine primary care. Objective: This study aimed to explore the extent to which treatment burden was associated with healthcare needs and patients' experiences. Methods: Multisite surveys were conducted in primary care facilities in Guangdong province, southern China. Interviewer‐administered questionnaires were used to collect data from patients (N = 2160) who had ≥2 clinically diagnosed long‐term conditions (multimorbidity) and had ≥1 clinical encounter in the past 12 months since enrolment registration with the family doctor team. Patients' experiences and treatment burden were measured using a previously validated Chinese version of the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCAT) and the Treatment Burden Questionnaire, respectively. Results: The mean age of the patients was 61.4 years, and slightly over half were females. Patients who had a family doctor team as the primary source of care reported significantly higher PCAT scores (mean difference 7.2 points, p <.001) and lower treatment burden scores (mean difference −6.4 points, p <.001) when compared to those who often bypassed primary care. Greater healthcare needs were significantly correlated with increased treatment burden (β‐coefficient 1.965, p <.001), whilst better patients' experiences were associated with lower treatment burden (β‐coefficient −0.252, p <.001) after adjusting for confounders. Conclusion: The inverse association between patients' experiences and treatment burden supports the importance of primary care in managing patients with multimorbidity. There is little investigation on the independent effects of left-behind experience (LBE) on self-esteem and aggressive behavior in Chinese young adult populations, or the interaction effects of LBE and self-esteem on aggressive behavior. Thus, a school-based health survey was conducted in Anhui province in China in 2017. A total of 4,154 college students completed standard questionnaires which contain details of left-behind–related characters, self-esteem, aggressive behavior, and sociodemographic profile. Of included students, 55.3% were those with LBE (LBEs). Compared to students without left-behind experiences (NLBEs), LBEs had significantly increased scores of aggressive behavior and decreased score of self-esteem. The increased aggression in LBEs was highly related to longer left-behind duration, younger age of left-behind for the first time, and decreased self-esteem. On the other side, the aggressive behavior was demonstrated negatively correlated with self-esteem in both LBEs and NLBEs. There was an interaction effect of left-behind duration and self-esteem on physical aggression and of frequency of contacting with parents and self-esteem on verbal aggression. Besides, the interaction of primary caregiver and self-esteem on hostility and aggression toward self were also observed, respectively. Our results indicated LBEs and low self-esteem are associated with increased risk of aggressive behavior in Chinese young adults. The increased aggressive behavior in LBEs were highly related to longer left-behind duration, younger age of left-behind for the first time and decreased self-esteem. In those LBEs with some certain left-behind–related characters, aggressive behavior decreased more prominently with the increase of self-esteem. Strategies to improve self-esteem, particularly among young adults who have certain characters of LBE, should be a significant component of prevention and interventions of aggressive behavior. Background: Follow-up care is crucial but challenging for disease management particularly in rural areas with limited healthcare resources and clinical capacity, yet few studies have been conducted from the perspective of rural primary care physicians (PCPs). We assessed the frequency of follow-up care delivered by rural PCPs for hypertension and type 2 diabetes – the two most common long-term conditions. Methods: We conducted a multi-centre, self-administered survey study built upon existing general practice course programmes for rural PCPs in four provinces. Information on follow-up care delivery were collected from rural PCPs attending centralised in-class teaching sessions using a set of close-ended, multiple choice questions. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to examine physician-level factors associated with non-attainment of the target frequency of follow-up care for hypertension and type 2 diabetes, respectively. The final sample consisted of rural PCPs from 52 township-level regions. The Complex Samples module was used in the statistical analysis to account for the multistage sample design. Results: The overall response rate was 91.4%. Around one fifth of PCPs in rural practices did not achieve the target frequency of follow-up care delivery (18.7% for hypertension; 21.6% for type 2 diabetes). Higher education level of physicians, increased volume of daily patients seen, and no provision of home visits were risk factors for non-attainment of the target frequency of follow-up care for both conditions. Moreover, village physicians with less working experiences tended to have less frequent follow-up care delivery in type 2 diabetes management. Conclusions: Efforts that are solely devoted to enhancing rural physicians' education may not directly translate into strong motivation and active commitment to service provision given the possible existence of clinical inertia and workload-related factors. Background: In China, because of the growth of economically driven rural-to-urban migration, there are lots of children in rural area who are separating or have separation experience with their parents. Until now, few studies focused on solely maternal separation and no research studied whether its pattern will affect children's later psychological status. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine whether early or late maternal separation affects depression and dysfunctional attitude in middle school students and what is the role of cumulative duration and meeting frequency. Methods: Maternal separation experience was obtained by using questionnaires. We got early maternal separation group first. Then, late maternal separation and control group were obtained with the same number by matching grade, sex and family socioeconomic status. All the students in the three groups completed the scales of Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and Dysfunctional Attitude Scale (DAS). Results: Both CDI and DAS scores of early separation group are higher than the other two groups. When we split the data by sex, only females presented the same results. When cumulative duration is short, there is significant difference in both scores of CDI and DAS among the three groups, which showed the scores of early separation group are higher than the other two groups. When the cumulative duration is long, there is no significant difference among the three groups. When meeting frequency is high, there is no significant difference among the three groups. When it is low, there is significant difference among the three groups, which showed the CDI and DAS scores of early separation group are higher than the other two groups. Furthermore, the same results are also found in females. Conclusion: Early maternal separation may exert negative influence on student's depression and dysfunctional attitude. Improvements in energy-saving and low-carbon technologies in the economic system are foundations of sustainable economic development. Therefore, measuring the bias of technical change from the perspective of energy-saving and low-carbon is a prerequisite for clarifying whether economic growth is manifested as low-carbon and sustainable. In this paper, the production function from the perspective of energy-saving and low-carbon in China is constructed, and ridge regression is used to estimate it to measure energy and carbon bias in China's technical change. The results indicate that technical change is biased towards energy use and carbon emissions relative to capital and labor, but this bias is weakening. In general, China's economic system has always biased towards carbon emissions, and its carbon-biased technical change has the largest share in directed technical change. Objective: To explore the association between polymorphism of the human leukocyte antigen G (HLA-G) and susceptibility of esophageal carcinoma (EC) in Kazakh and Han nationality in Xinjiang. Methods: The 14 bp deletion/insertion (rs16375) and 0105N (rs41557518) of HLA-G genotyping were determined by PCR and PCR-RFLP, respectively in 239 patients and 467 controls. Results: There was a 2.69-fold ( Pc == 0.04, 95% CI: 1.30-5.55) increased risk of developing EC in individuals with the −14 bp/−14 bp genotype (rs16375) compared with those carrying ++14 bp/++14 bp genotype in Kazakh after Bonferroni correction, there was no association of 0105N (rs41557518) both in Kazak and Han population. And there was a 2.82-fold ( Pc == 0.04, 95% CI: 1.32-6.04) increased risk of developing EC in individuals with −14 bp/−14 bp and C/C genotypes compared with those who had ++14 bp/++14 bp and C/C genotypes in Kazakh. Conclusions: The study demonstrates that EC is associated with polymorphism of HLA-G14 bp in Chinese Kazak population. Aim: To assess the influence of health education for type 2 diabetic patients with and without coexisting hypertension in routine primary care where intensive educational consultations were absent.Methods: A longitudinal cohort was constructed from 342 diabetic subjects who previously had regular exposure to face-to-face health education delivered quarterly during 2016-2017 under the national basic public health (BPH) service provision in an urbanised township in China. Clinical parameters were retrieved electronically from computerised BPH data platform at prior check-ups (2016-2017) and at the most recent check-up (2019).Results: The satisfactory clinical improvements upon health education were not sustained during subsequent observational years among study subjects. A significant increase in total cholesterol (0.28 mmol/L for between-group net changes, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.01-0.55 mmol/L, p = 0.039) were observed in diabetic subjects with coexisting hypertension. Older patients (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 0.87, 95%CI = 0.83-0.91, p less than 0.001), males (aOR = 0.50, 95%CI = 0.26-0.98, p = 0.043), and subjects with lower education level (aOR = 0.34, 95%CI = 0.17-0.67, p = 0.002) were less likely to maintain improvement of biomedical parameters.Conclusion: The influence of face-to-face health education may not be prolonged in routine primary care where intensive provisions of educational consultations were less common. The fall armyworm (FAW), native to the Americas, has rapidly invaded the whole of Southern China since January 2019. In addition, it can survive and breed in the key maize- and rice- growing area of the Yangtze River Valley. Furthermore, this pest is also likely to continue infiltrating other cropping regions in China, where food security is facing a severe threat. To understand the potential infestation area of newly-invaded FAW from the Yangtze River Valley, we simulated and predicted the possible flight pathways and range of the populations using a numerical trajectory modelling method combining meteorological data and self-powered flight behavior parameters of FAW. Our results indicate that the emigration of the first and second generations of newly-invaded FAW initiating from the Yangtze River Valley started on 20 May 2019 and ended on 30 July 2019. The spread of migratory FAW benefitted from transport on the southerly summer monsoon so that FAW emigrants from the Yangtze River Valley can reach northern China. The maize-cropping areas of Northeastern China, the Korean Peninsula and Japan are at a high risk. Air pollution has become a key problem to be solved in the process of sustainable development in China. Most existing research on environmental regulation has focused on one dimension or several aspects of environmental regulation. This paper quantitatively scored environmental policies in China from multiple dimensions to construct the index of environmental regulation and used a spatial econometric model and satellite-monitored PM2.5 data for 280 cities in 2002–2016 to analyze the effects of environmental regulation on city air pollution treatment in the country. The empirical results showed that (a) there was a significant positive correlation for the spatial distribution of air pollution in China (0.87 in 2007) and the current air pollution situation was susceptible to the effects of its previous (the time lag effect of urban air pollution in eastern China is the strongest, which was 0.347); (b) environmental regulation could significantly improve the air pollution situation in the cities of northern and eastern regions; (c) the decomposition of the spatial spillover effect confirmed the role of environmental regulation in improving air quality in the region or surrounding areas. (d) we found the inverted U-shaped relationship between city economic development and air pollution in southern cities, the environmental Kuznets curve was verified; In the future, breaking the "barriers" in pollution treatment between regions and strengthening regional conversation and cooperation are effective approaches to treating air pollution. To understand the variations in greenhouse gas fluxes during the process of returning cropland to wetland in the Sanjiang Plain, we selected naturally restored wetlands of 4, 7, 11, 16 and 20 years as research objects to compare with a cultivated site (soybean plantation for 13 years) and an uncultivated marsh dominated by Deyeuxia purpurea and Carex schmidtii . We measured carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and methane (CH 4 ) fluxes using a static chamber-gas chromatography and explored the main influencing factors. The results showed that there were seasonal variations in growing-season CO 2 and CH 4 fluxes of the restored wetlands, with the seasonal trends in greenhouse gases becoming gradually similar to that of natural marsh with increasing restoration time. The mean growing-season CO 2 fluxes increased during the early stage of restoration, but then decreased during the late stage, which decreased from 893.4 mg·m -2 ·h -1 to 494.0 mg·m -2 ·h -1 in the 4-year and 20-year sites, respectively. Mean CH 4 fluxes increased with restoration time, ranging from a weak CH 4 sink (soybean fields, -0.6 mg·m -2 ·h -1 ) to a CH 4 source of 87.8 mg·m -2 ·h -1 (20-year restored site). The CH 4 fluxes of experimental plots were consistently lower than that of natural marsh (96.4 mg·m -2 ·h -1 ). Increases in water level and soil conductivity resulting from restoration were the main driving factors for the decrease in CO 2 fluxes. The increases in water level and soil dissolved organic carbon resulting from restoration were the primary drivers for the increase of CH 4 fluxes in the restored wetlands. The global warming potentials increased with restoration time, ranging from 27.8 t·CO 2 -eq·hm -2 (soybean fields) to 130.8 t·CO 2 -eq·hm -2 (plot of 20-year restoration), which gradually approached that of natural marsh (156.3 t·CO 2 -eq·hm -2 ). The emission of GHGs from restored wetlands in the Sanjiang Plain gradually approached those of natural marsh. Further monitoring is required to identify the maturity of restored wetlands for achieving greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that of natural marshland.

Background: Current endoscopic methods in the control of acute nonvariceal bleeding have a small but clinically significant failure rate. The role of over-the-scope clips (OTSCs) as the first treatment has not been defined., Objective: To compare OTSCs with standard endoscopic hemostatic treatments in the control of bleeding from nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal causes., Design: A multicenter, randomized controlled trial. (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03216395)., Setting: University teaching hospitals in Hong Kong, China, and Australia., Patients: 190 adult patients with active bleeding or a nonbleeding visible vessel from a nonvariceal cause on upper gastrointestinal endoscopy., Intervention: Standard hemostatic treatment ( n  = 97) or OTSC ( n  = 93)., Measurements: The primary outcome was 30-day probability of further bleeds. Other outcomes included failure to control bleeding after assigned endoscopic treatment, recurrent bleeding after initial hemostasis, further intervention, blood transfusion, and hospitalization., Results: The 30-day probability of further bleeding in the standard treatment and OTSC groups was 14.6% (14 of 97) and 3.2% (3 of 93), respectively (risk difference, 11.4 percentage points [95% CI, 3.3 to 20.0 percentage points]; P  = 0.006). Failure to control bleeding after assigned endoscopic treatment in the standard treatment and OTSC groups was 6 versus 1 (risk difference, 5.1 percentage points [CI, 0.7 to 11.8 percentage points]), respectively, and 30-day recurrent bleeding was 8 versus 2 (risk difference, 6.6 percentage points [CI, -0.3 to 14.4 percentage points]), respectively. The need for further interventions was 8 versus 2, respectively. Thirty-day mortality was 4 versus 2, respectively. In a post hoc analysis with a composite end point of failure to successfully apply assigned treatment and further bleeds, the event rate was 15 of 97 (15.6%) and 6 of 93 (6.5%) in the standard and OTSC groups, respectively (risk difference, 9.1 percentage points [CI, 0.004 to 18.3 percentage points])., Limitation: Clinicians were not blinded to treatment and the option of crossover treatment., Conclusion: Over-the-scope clips, as an initial treatment, may be better than standard treatment in reducing the risk for further bleeding from nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal causes that are amenable to OTSC placement., Primary Funding Source: General Research Fund to the University Grant Committee, Hong Kong SAR Government.

Background: The diamondback moth (DBM) Plutella xylostella has developed resistance to almost all insecticides used to control it. Populations of DBM in temperate regions mainly migrate from annual breeding areas. However, the distribution pattern of insecticide resistance of DBM within the context of long-distance migration remains unclear., Results: In this study, we examined the frequency of 14 resistance mutations for 52 populations of DBM collected in 2010, 2011, 2017 and 2018 across China using a high-throughput KASP genotyping method. Mutations L1041F and T929I conferring pyrethroid resistance, and mutations G4946E and E1338D conferring chlorantraniliprole resistance were near fixation in most populations, whereas resistant alleles of F1020S, M918I, A309V and F1845Y were uncommon or absent in most populations. Resistance allele frequencies were relatively stable among different years, although the frequency of two mutations decreased. Principal component analysis based on resistant allele frequencies separated a southern population as an outlier, whereas the immigrants clustered with other populations, congruent with the migration pattern of northern immigrants coming from the Sichuan area of southwestern China. Most resistant mutations deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium due to a lower than expected frequency of heterozygotes. The deviation index of heterozygosity for resistant alleles was significantly higher than the index obtained from single nucleotide polymorphisms across the genome. These findings suggest heterogeneous selection pressures on resistant mutations., Conclusion: Our results provide a picture of resistant mutation patterns in DBM shaped by insecticide usage and migration of this pest, and highlight the widespread distribution of resistance alleles in DBM. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry., (© 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.)

Objective: Cancer burden can be reduced when the population's knowledge of cancer prevention and control measures is increased. However, current epidemiological research investigating cancer prevention and control knowledge in China is limited. This study aimed to examine the core knowledge levels of cancer prevention and control measures as well as its influencing factors among adults in Fujian, China., Study Design: A cross-sectional study., Methods: From September to December 2021, a total of 2,440 Chinese urban and rural adults from Fujian Province, located in Southeastern China, were randomly selected for this cross-sectional study. The probability proportionate approach to sampling was used. A 38-item questionnaire that covered demographics and basic knowledge of cancer, including concepts, screening, therapy, and rehabilitation-related key points was used to measure knowledge levels of cancer prevention and control measures among 2,074 participants. The level of each participants' core knowledge of cancer prevention and control measures was defined as a rate calculated by the number of correct answers divided by the total number of questions. The binary logistic regression model was used to determine if influencing factors were associated with core knowledge awareness., Results: In total, 1,290 participants (62.2%) were in the low knowledge group and 784 (37.8%) were in the high knowledge group. The average knowledge rate of cancer prevention and control measures among all participants was 56.01%. Participants from urban areas, who held white-collar jobs, were married, had a bachelor's degree or above, had a family history of cancer, or self-rated their health level as good or average were associated with higher rates of cancer prevention and control core knowledge (overall p < 0.05)., Conclusion: These findings may assist healthcare providers and/or researchers in designing effective primary preventive interventions to enhance the general population's cancer prevention and control knowledge, and subsequently decrease the cancer burden in China., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2022 Yang, Lin, Lin, Chen and Huang.)

Background: Universal 2-child policy was proposed in 2015 in China, but it was still uncertain whether having a second child would have any impacts on maternal health, especially mental health. So, the aim of this study was to compare the incidence of perinatal depression between the first-child women and the second-child women and to describe the patterns of perinatal depression from the first and third trimesters to 6 weeks postpartum., Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in a university hospital, 969 first-child women and 492 second-child women registered in this hospital from Dec 2017 to Mar 2018 were involved in the study. The Mainland Chinese version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was applied to screen perinatal depressive symptoms, while socio-demographic and obstetric data were obtained by self-administered questionnaires. Multiple logistic regression analyses were used to compare the risk of depression between 2 groups, and repeated measures of analysis of variances (ANOVAs) were used to determine the EPDS scores of 2 groups across 3 stages., Results: The incidence of perinatal depression was 21.78% to 24.87% and 18.29% to 22.15% in the first-child group and the second-child group, respectively. The second-child women were less likely to exhibit depressive symptoms than the first-child women in the first trimester (Adjusted OR = 0.630, 95%CI = 0.457-0.868, P = .005), but no significant difference was found between the 2 groups in the third trimester and at postpartum period. During the whole perinatal period, no significant difference was found in EPDS scores of the first-child group among the three stages. However, the EPDS scores of the second-child group were higher in the first trimester than that at the postpartum period., Conclusion: The risk of perinatal depression for the second-child women was no higher than for the first-child women, and the EPDS scores of the second-child women were decreasing during the perinatal period. So couples in West China are recommended to consider having a second child without much worry about its negative effects on mental health under the universal 2-child policy.

The present study emphasizes the indirect influences of coworker helping behavior on emotional exhaustion through psychological availability and the moderating role of perceived task demands on a daily basis. Using a two-wave experience sampling method with data collected via mobile phones, we collected 345 matched data from 69 samples over five consecutive days in mainland China. We developed a moderated mediation model to test our conceptual model, with the following significant results: (1) Daily coworker helping behavior decreased employee emotional exhaustion; (2) daily psychological availability mediated the influence of coworker helping behavior on employee emotional exhaustion; (3) through psychological availability, perceived task demands moderated the indirect influence of daily coworker helping behavior on emotional exhaustion. The indirect influence of daily coworker helping behavior only emerged with a low perception of job demands. This research explores the mechanism and boundary conditions of the relationship between daily coworker helping behavior and employee emotional exhaustion with the job demands-resources model framework. In practice, leaders should adopt beneficial interventions to enhance team cohesion, to facilitate team members' helping behavior, and to manage task demands.

Two pairs of new enantiomers, lucidulactones A and B (1 and 2), and two known compounds were isolated from Ganoderma lucidum. Their structures were determined by means of spectroscopic methods. The chiral HPLC was used to separate the ( - )- and (+)-antipodes of the new compounds.

Two new dopamine derivatives divesamides A (1) and B (2), along with six known N-containing compounds were isolated from the Chinese black ant (Polyrhachis dives). Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic methods. Compound 1 is a racemate, and chiral HPLC separation yielded a pair of antipodes. The absolute configuration of (+)-1 was assigned by a computational method. The double signals in the (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra of 2 that resulted from the presence of a formamide group were discussed. The T- and B-lymphocytes proliferation assay showed that 2 has moderate immunosuppressive activity toward T- and B-lymphocytes proliferation at a concentration of 20 μM.

According to the existing Provisions for Drug Registration (SFDA Order No. 28), applications for new drugs of traditional Chinese medicine are divided into two parts: the applications for drug clinical trial and for drug production (including new drug certificate). It will last for about 10 years from the application for drug clinical trial to get approving, and it also remains many problems and the low probability to succeed. From the sight of pharmaceutical review, there are mainly two aspects of regulatory compliance and technical issues, mainly for changes without approval of the competent authorities of the country. For example, sample preparation and approval of clinical trial process are significant changes. Technical problems are reporting incomplete data or information submitted does not comply with the technical requirements for review, such as: production process validation does not provide information, the preparation of samples for clinical trials and field inspection, production information, or the information provided does not meet the technical requirements. This paper summarizes the frequently asked questions and to make recommendations to advise applicants concerned, timely detection of problems, avoid risk, improving the quality and efficiency of the application for registration.
