Most coal resources are deposited in the form of inclined coal seams, and surface subsidence basin morphology induced by the mining of inclined coal seams is frequently skewed. The probability integral method with symmetrical distribution characteristics is widely used at present in surface subsidence prediction in coal mining in China. However, this method performs poorly when the inclined coal seam mining subsidence is predicted, and prediction accuracy decreases considerably with an increase in coal seam inclination. To solve this problem, this study first establishes three coordinate systems: a working surface rectangular coordinate system, a working face body-following coordinate system, and a surface rectangular coordinate system. Then, a random medium theory is applied to realize the superposition integral operation of the subsidence influence of unit mining in the working faces body-following coordinate system. Subsequently, the subsidence effect of a certain point on the surface is converted into the surface rectangular coordinate system. Finally, the inclined coal seam mining subsidence prediction model is constructed under the surface rectangular coordinate system. Results show that the surface subsidence caused by the mining of the inclined coal seam units conforms to the Weibull polar distribution law, and the effectiveness of the prediction model is verified through examples. The relative mean squared error of the prediction is less than 10%. The results of the study can provide theoretical and technical support for the subsidence prediction of similar mining areas. Coal seam mining in the gully area easily causes ground cracks and even induces landslides, which endanger the safety of mining areas. In this paper, combined with the mining conditions of a mining area in southern Shanxi Province, China, ground crack mapping, crack width dynamic monitoring, and the numerical simulation method are used to study the static and dynamic evolution law and the formation mechanism of ground cracks in the gully area. The research shows that ground cracks mainly include dynamic in-plane cracks and boundary cracks. The dynamic in-plane cracks show the characteristics of "opening first and closing later". The boundary cracks show the characteristics of "only opening and not closing". It is found that the closure of the dynamic in-plane cracks will decrease (compared with plain areas). The development of ground cracks experiences three stages: the initial formation stage, the dynamic development stage, and the gradually stable stage. The "goaf–surface" structure model and force chain arch structure model are established to more intuitively analyze the formation mechanism of ground cracks. The mining of underground coal resources can trigger geological hazards such as subsidence basins, cave-in pits, and step cracks. In China, the probability integral method (PIM), the most popular method for predicting surface movement deformation caused by coal resource mining, has a prediction accuracy that is mainly influenced by both the measurement data (i.e., quantity and quality) from ground movement observatories and the parameter inversion method. To obtain more accurate PIM parameters in the absence of observational data, we propose a combined machine learning model (RF-AGA-ENN)—random forest (RF) extracts the best combination of features as the input layer of Elman neural network (ENN); ant colony algorithm (ACO) and genetic algorithm (GA) are combined (called AGA) for the weights and thresholds of ENN optimization. The results of the study show that (1) the RF-AGA-ENN model is used to obtain PIM values with MAXRE values between 1.94% and 9.18%, AVERY values between 0.98% and 3.98%, and RMSE values between 0.0050 and 0.9632. (2) Compared with the PIM parameters obtained from BP neural network, RF-ENN, RF-ACO-ENN, and RF-GA-ENN models, the PIM parameters obtained from the RF-AGA-ENN model have better stability and accuracy. (3) According to the PIM parameters obtained by the RF-AGA-ENN model, the predicted and measured values of surface settlement at the 11111 working face have a high degree of agreement. China's urbanization has attracted many scholars' attention due to its significant impact on socioeconomic sustainability. Many studies have explored the spatial pattern and effects of the factors influencing urban expansion. However, the spatiotemporal dynamics integrating spatial and temporal dimensions and the spatial scales of the influencing factors are always ignored. This study applied the framework of exploratory space–time data analysis (ESTDA) to investigate the spatiotemporal dynamics of urban expansion across 342 cities in China from 1990 to 2017 and, further, used multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) to estimate the effects of influencing factors on urban expansion. We found that urban expansion had an obvious south–north division, and yet the effects of influencing factors usually showed an east–west division. We also found that the dynamic local spatial dependency of urban expansion was accompanied by a volatile coevolution process and inclined to transfer from heterogeneity to homogeneity, and homogeneity tended to be stable. The coevolution of urban expansion between cities and other neighboring ones became stronger with increases in time and regional integration. These findings support the use of customized urban planning for specific regions in different spatial dependence to improve land-use efficiency and coordinate regional development. In the mining stage of shallow thick coal seam in the western mining area of China, there is often severe mine pressure and serious surface subsidence and damage. In this paper, theoretical analysis and PFC (Particle Flow Code) numerical simulation are combined to study the caving characteristics and force chain evolution characteristics of the overlying strata of stope. We analyze the stability of the structure of the "inclined step cutting body" on the overlying strata and obtain the calculation formula of the support force of the working face based on the instability of the structure. The force chain arch curve equation is modified according to the evolution law of force chains, from which the force chain can be the basis for judging the large area damage of the surface. The results demonstrate that the rock mass i1 ≤ 0.86, the structure of "inclined step cutting body," is not prone to sliding and instability. Considering that i = 1.0~1.4 under the condition of shallow buried thick coal seam, the structure of the "inclined step cutting body" is prone to being destroyed leading to instability, resulting in severe rock pressure.The minimum supporting force to maintain structural stability is 0.2Fn, which is in line with the actual support force in the mining process of the working face. Taking the mining technical parameters of the nearby working face into the force chain arch formula, it can be concluded that, when the working face advances to 175 m, large-scale subsidence damage begins to appear on the surface, which agrees with the survey results. Therefore, the force chain is the main force system to bear the load of the overlying strata. PFC has unique advantages in simulating discontinuous deformation of overburden rock. The results of the study reasonably explain the phenomena of severe mine pressure and serious surface damage caused by the mining of the shallow thick coal seam working face, which has a certain reference value for preventing ground disasters caused by underground mining and land ecological restoration. Under the mining condition of extrathick coal seam, the overburden moves violently, the surface is destroyed seriously, and the discontinuous deformation such as cracks is fully developed. Taking Datong mining area as an example, this paper studies and analyzes the development characteristics and generation mechanism of surface cracks in loose layer covered area and bedrock exposed area by means of field measurement and similar model experiment. In the bedrock exposed area, there is no main crack. The width, length, number, and step drop of surface cracks are relatively small. There are many cracks with the same scale and distributed evenly and parallel. However, in the loose covered area, the main cracks are mainly located above the open-off cut and the stoppage line side that is deviated from the working face. There are many secondary cracks around the main crack, with a large crack density and a few cracks in the outer edge of the main crack. Through research, it is found that three mining faces belong to the typical three-zone mining mode and the main fracture is consistent with the O-ring fracture distribution theory. High-intensity coal mining activities in China's western mining area are damaging fragile ecological environments. The key to coordinating ecological protection and coal mining is to understand the law of overlying strata migration in high-intensity mining. However, it is difficult for conventional monitoring methods to efficiently monitor overburden movement in high-intensity mining areas in real time. In this paper, a space-sky-surface (3S) integrated system is proposed to conquer this challenge. This monitoring system consists of three parts: a space monitoring component (a combination of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR)), a sky observation component (an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a measuring camera (MC)), and a surface exploration component (ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and high-density electricity method (HDEM)). This system was successfully applied to the 12,401 longwall face in the Shangwan coal mine (the maximum mining height is 8.8 m). The deformation cloud map of the entire mining area was obtained through InSAR monitoring technology accompanying the 3D laser scanning to improve the accuracy in the local region of 12,401 longwall face. The distribution characteristics and dynamic evolution of surface fractures were obtained using UAV and MC (visible light camera + infrared camera). Using the HDEM and GPR technologies, the fracture development was well detected. Based on the strata movement theory, combined with the monitoring results, a three-dimensional model of overburden rock fracture after 12,401 longwall face mining was constructed. Mining cities are special ecosystems that distinguish from general mining areas. They combine the influence of mining activities, natural factors, and other anthropogenic factors. In this study, we proposed a method called MMD to extract the mining disturbance on vegetation, and explored the driving mechanism between NDVI and natural, socio-economic and accessibility factors. The main results were as follows: (1) From 2000 to 2014, the decline rate of NDVI in the Fengfeng District was 0.0015/yr, and from 2014 to 2022, the growth rate of NDVI was 0.0058/yr. The overall trend was positive growth; (2) The response of NDVI to mining activities showed a distance decay pattern, with 2.0 km from the mine as the turning point of impact degree and 3.0 km as the boundary of the impact range; (3) The impact intensity of six factors in descending order was population density > gross domestic product density > precipitation> temperature > elevation> distance to the road. Natural factors were positive factors, and socio-economic factors were negative factors. In addition, socio-economic factors held the dominant position, whereas the impact on vegetation showed a declining trend. It's worth noting that natural factors exceeded gross domestic product density as the dominant factors in 2015. The rapid economic development and intense human activities have seriously restricted the sustainable development of ecology and the maintenance of ecosystem services. Ecological network can effectively connect fragmented habitats and is an important way to couple landscape structure, ecological process, and function. This study proposes a multimodel coupling framework to explore the ecological security status of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR) under different development scenarios from the perspective of ecological networks. The conclusions are as follows: (1) From 2000 to 2030, grassland and arable land were the main land types of NHAR. Grassland is the main expansion land type under the ecological land protection (ELP) scenario, while construction land is the main expansion land type in two other scenarios. (2) The main gather and change of the ecological sources occurred in the central region, and the ecological expansion should develop from the middle to the south. (3) The average area of ecological sources under BAU and RED scenarios is smaller than that under ELP scenario, and more ecological corridors are needed to connect. (4) The centrality of the ecological sources under the BAU scenario is generally high, but the ecological sources under ELP and RED scenarios have undergone spatial migration. In addition, the urbanization trend of NHAR is different under different scenarios, and more attention should be paid to the maintenance and protection of ecological networks in typical areas.
