Objectives: To test the hypothesis that cardiovascular diseases and risk factors are associated with ulcer relapse in after‐retirement patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis. Subjects and Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed the data of 40 minor recurrent aphthous stomatitis patients aged 55–75 years, admitted to Oral Medicine Clinic at one university hospital in China between 2016 and 2018. The diagnosis of minor recurrent aphthous stomatitis was made based on the history and manifestation of oral ulcers. The ulcer relapse was evaluated after a 5‐week anti‐inflammatory treatment, and the history of systemic diseases was collected. cardiovascular disease/metabolic risk referred to the presence of any cardiovascular diseases and metabolic cardiovascular disease risks. Associations among cardiovascular diseases, risk factors, and ulcer relapse were evaluated. Results: The mean age of 40 patients with minor recurrent aphthous stomatitis was 62.4 years (SD 5.1), and 60% were women. The ulcer relapse rate was 37.5% (95% CI, 0.242–0.530). The proportion of cardiovascular disease/metabolic risk was higher in the relapse group than in the no‐relapse group after 5‐week anti‐inflammatory treatment (Fisher's exact test, p = 0.041). Conclusions: According to this single‐center experience, older patients with cardiovascular disease/metabolic risk may be more prone to oral ulcer recurrence. The key to China's regional high-quality development lies in county-level coordination and promotion. Therefore, based on 2847 county-level administrative units in China, this paper uses empirical analysis methods such as dynamic spatial panel Dobbin model and intermediary effect model to study.Then we test the relationship between the industrial structure of county innovation capacity and regional development of high quality. The results showed that (1) the regional development of high quality at the county level in China was generally distributed in clusters, and the agglomeration had a further trend of strengthening. (2) The innovation ability and industrial structure also had a positive effect on the regional development of high quality at the county level, and the result was significant. (3) Innovation had both direct and indirect effects on regional development of high quality. Township health centers play a cornerstone role in the primary healthcare in China while it's development is largely limited by the brain drain. Job satisfaction is closely related to brain drain, investigating the relevant factors of job satisfaction can provide strategies to reduce brain drain. This research was conducted in Huangpi, China. Convenience sampling methods and self-administereded questionnaires were used. We collected 1370 valid samples, with an effective rate of 97.72%. Descriptive statistics are used to describe sociodemographic information. The Pearson Chi-square statistical was used to test the binary association between job satisfaction and another categorical variable. All the sociodemographic information was applied to the binary logistic regression model using the stepwise selection method. The mean age was 36.98 (SD = 9.84), factors that affect job satisfaction include educational background (x2 = 7.99, p< 0.05), marital status (x2 = 8.96, p< 0.05, monthly income (x2 = 51.43, p< 0.01), hire form (x2 = 7.64, p< 0.05), hours worked per week (x2 = 33.48, p< 0.01), parent had a stable job (x2 = 10.65, p< 0.01). Government and management should consider the impact of current policies on job satisfaction. Background: This population-based cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions (OMLs) in children in a rural area in China as epidemiological data on these conditions from such areas are insufficient. Methods: A total of 3145 children in Xiangyun of Yunnan were enrolled. A socio-economic questionnaire and a field survey of OMLs were administered. We gathered information on factors (sex, age, caregiver, parental education, and last-month household income) that might be associated with OMLs in these children. Results: OMLs in children in Xiangyun of Yunnan had a prevalence of 1.8% (95% CI; 1.3–2.3%). The most prevalent OML was oral ulcer (n = 11; 18.3%), followed by linea alba (n = 10; 16.7%), whereas the least prevalent OMLs were frenal tag (n = 1; 1.7%) and herpes labialis (n = 1; 1.7%). On unadjusted or adjusted regression, school-aged children had about 50% lower risk of OMLs than preschoolers. Conclusions: These findings indicate that the prevalence of OMLs in Xiangyun of Yunnan is lower than previously reported. Background: Osteosarcoma is a relatively rare malignant tumor with a high incidence in young people. The development of tyrosine kinase inhibitors has brought the treatment of osteosarcoma into a new stage. Apatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor specifically targeting VEGFR2, has been increasingly reported as a treatment for osteosarcoma with promising outcome parameters, but there has been no systematic analysis of the treatment of osteosarcoma by apatinib.Methods: A single-arm meta-analysis was performed, and published literature from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI and Wan Fang databases as of March 1, 2021 was systematically retrieved. Quality assessment is carried out in accordance with a 20 item checklist form prepared by the Institute of Health Economics (IHE). Double arcsine transformation is performed to stabilize the variance of the original ratio. When I2 > 50%, the random effect model is used to calculate the pooled parameters; otherwise, the fixed effect model is used. We conducted subgroup analysis according to age and apatinib dose.Results: This meta-analysis included 11 studies of 356 Chinese patients with osteosarcoma. The pooled objective remission rate (ORR) of advanced or metastatic osteosarcoma treated by oral apatinib in Chinese patients was 0.27(95%CI = 0.18-0.38). The pooled disease control rate (DCR) was 0.57 (95%CI = 0.42-0.72). The pooled median progression-free survival (mPFS) and median total survival (mOS) were 5.18 months (95%CI = 4.03-6.33) and 10.87 months (95% CI = 9.40-12.33), respectively. More than 70% of adverse reactions were mild, the most common adverse reaction was hand-foot syndrome (HFMD), with an incidence of 0.46 (95%CI = 0.35-0.58), the second was hypertension, with an incidence of 0.40 (95%CI = 0.29-0.51).Conclusions: The efficacy of apatinib in the treatment of osteosarcoma is competitive with current evidence, and it is worth noting that its low cost can significantly improve patient compliance and increase therapeutic value. Background: As a special medicinal plant in Xinjiang province, Elaeagnus angustifolia L. plays an important role in windbreak and sand fixation. Its leaves are widely used in the field of traditional Chinese medicine treatment, mainly including diarrhea, dysentery, coronary heart disease and arrhythmia. Objective: In this study, our primary goal was to understand the mechanism of action of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. leaves (EALs) in protecting Rat Schwann cells (RSC-96) against H2O2-induced oxidative stress. Materials and Methods: The study material, EALs, was collected from Xinjiang Province in China. RSC-96 cells were stimulated by H2O2. Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used in the detection of cell viability, and the cellular apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were assessed by flow cytometry. The level of nerve growth factor (NGF) was assayed through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the expression of p-Akt BAX, PI3K, Bcl-2, and Akt was analyzed by Western blot. In addition, we detected the expression level of NGF. Results: According to our results, its levels were increased after stimulation with H2O2, but the levels of ROS and apoptosis were found to be reduced. Simultaneously, after induction with H2O2, the expression of Bcl-2, PI3K, p-Akt, and Akt was increased due to the presence of EALs extract, but the expression level of BAX was reduced. According to our results, EALs protects RSC-96 cells from hydrogen peroxide stress and its antiapoptotic and antioxidant effects are mainly mediated through PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Conclusion: EALs extracts protected RSC-96 cells against H2O2-induced oxidative stress by exerting antioxidative and antiapoptotic effects through PI3K/Akt signaling pathways. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The tectonic setting of Indosinian magmatism in West Qinling Orogen and the tectonic evolution of the Paleo-Tethys remain hotly debated. Here we present SHRIMP zircon U Pb dating, major-trace elemental and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic data for four granitic and gabbroic plutons across the eastern West Qinling Orogen, from north to south including Guanshan, Fengxian, Mishuling and Miba. Our new data indicate that the Fengxian granitoids, emplaced at 238 Ma in a continental arc setting, show adakitic affinity and were formed by partial melting of subducted sediments. The southern Guanshan granitoids, emplaced at 235–229 Ma in a continental arc setting, also show adakitic affinity but were generated by partial melting of thickened (>50 km) lower crust. The northern Guanshan granites and gabbros were emplaced at 217–216 Ma in a back-arc setting, with the former generated by partial melting of normal (40–50 km) lower crust and the latter derived from asthenospheric mantle. The Mishuling granitic pluton contains abundant mafic microgranular enclaves, both emplaced at 214 Ma in a back-arc setting with the host granitoids formed by partial melting of normal (40–50 km) lower crust and the enclave magmas derived from asthenospheric-lithospheric mantle. The Miba granitoids, emplaced at 216 Ma in a continental arc setting, show adakitic affinity and were generated by partial melting of thickened (>50 km) lower crust. We suggest that the Paleo-Tethyan oceanic crust had subducted near the Shangdan suture by 238 Ma and successively advanced northward, approaching southeastern Qilian Orogen at 235–229 Ma. Then slab rollback initiated and gradually migrated southward. Seed dispersal is essential for plant recruitment and the maintenance of biodiversity. Colobine monkeys are primarily folivorous, but they also consume fruits and are often assumed to be seed predators. Although they are known to be epizoochorous seed dispersers, their role as endozoochorous seed dispersers needs reassessment. We examined potential endozoochory in golden snub‐nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus roxellana) at Dalongtan in Shennongjia National Park, central China, by assessing potential germination of ingested seeds (n = 1806, 9 species) from fecal samples. Intact seeds were in almost all fecal samples (ranging from 5–130 seeds), and ingested seeds were from small seeded species (seed width <4.5 mm). The 2 most abundant species were Actinidia arguta (73%) and Rosa caudata (15%). The fruits of A. arguta were unripe when ingested (i.e. effective seed predation) and the ingested seeds did not germinate in the trials. Therefore, ingestion of unripe seeds does not lead to effective seed dispersal. However, germination rates of defecated R. caudata (9%) were greater than control seeds (6% and 0%), demonstrating potential endozoochorous seed dispersal. Thus, colobine monkeys do indeed disperse mainly small‐seeded from multi‐seeded fruits through potential endozoochory and this process enhances the recruitment of seedlings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Xinxing granitic pluton is a large batholith cropping out in southern South China with its long axis parallel to the regional NE–trending faults. We conduct the first comprehensive study of zircon laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) U–Pb chronology and trace element chemistry, rock-forming mineral chemistry and whole-rock element and Sr–Nd isotope geochemistry for this pluton. Our new data indicate that the pluton was emplaced during the interval 234–232 Ma, i.e. early Indosinian rather than late Mesozoic as previously considered. The southern pluton consists of syenogranite and monzogranite, which are composed of K-feldspar, oligoclase, quartz and ferri-biotite. The northern pluton consists of monzogranite and granodiorite, which are composed of andesine, K-feldspar, quartz and magnesio-biotite. The southern granites have high SiO2 contents (72.5–79.2 wt%) and high FeOT/(FeOT + MgO) (T refers to total) ratios with low Mg# [atomic Mg/(Mg + FeT)]. They are enriched in rare earth elements and depleted in Sr and Ba with Zr + Y + Ce + Nb >350 ppm and 10,000 × Ga/Al >2.6. Their initial magma temperatures are unusually high (>886 °C). All those features strongly suggest an affinity with A-type granites. The northern granites have lower SiO2 contents (63.4–72.5 wt%) and lower FeOT/(FeOT + MgO) ratios as well as higher Mg# than the southern granites. They are also enriched in rare earth elements and depleted in Sr and Ba, with high Ga/Al ratios and high Zr + Y + Ce + Nb contents. Geochemical data and major element modeling confirm that the southern A-type granites were generated by the moderate degree (~49%) shallow (ca. 15–20 km depth) dehydration melting of the early Paleozoic granitoids triggered by intraplating of basaltic magmas. Subsequent moderate degree (~57%) fractionation of such crustal melts produced the more felsic granites in the southern pluton, whereas subsequent mixing of such crustal melts with about 8 to 48% intraplated mafic magmas generated the less felsic granites in the northern pluton. Interaction of mafic magmas with A-type crustal melts causes the northern granites to lose some diagnostic geochemical features of A-type granites such as high FeOT/(FeOT + MgO) ratios and to be transitional towards I-type granites. We further suggest their origin to have been related to the transtension of the regional NE–trending strike-slip faults coupled with the early Indosinian continental collisions. Late Paleozoic granites have rarely been reported in South China. We present the first detailed zircon laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) U-Pb dating and in situ Hf isotopic and whole-rock element geochemical and Sr-Nd isotopic data for two late Permian granitic plutons (Napeng and Shicun) recently identified in the Yunkai massif, South China. In addition, we assess their origin and relationship to the geodynamics of late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic magmatism in South China. The Napeng pluton consists of cordierite- and/or garnet-bearing biotite granites, and the Shicun pluton is composed of two-mica granites and muscovite granites. Detailed LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating shows that both plutons were emplaced in the late Permian and contain abundant inherited zircons with a spread of ages, including Neoarchean-Paleoproterozoic, Neoproterozoic-Cambrian, Ordovician-Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, and early Permian. The cordierite- and/or garnet-bearing biotite granites are strongly peraluminous and have higher maficity than experimental melts of metasedimentary rocks. Both the two-mica and muscovite granites are also strongly peraluminous but have similar maficity to experimental melts of metasedimentary rocks. All the granites have high initial 87Sr/86Sr, negative ε Nd(t), and ε Hf(t) (in situ zircon). Detailed petrographic and geochemical characteristics of the studied granites suggest that they are S-type granites and were formed by partial melting of subducted oceanic sediments of the eastern Paleo-Tethys Ocean within the depth of mantle region to normal lower crust in the continental collision zone. Our new data suggest that the origin of the Napeng and Shicun granites might mark the onset of the continental collision between the Indochina and South China Blocks with the initial closure of the eastern Paleo-Tethys Ocean at the beginning of the late Permian. Objective. To study the correlation between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) constitution and dyslipidemia. Methods. CNKI, VIP, Wanfang database, CBMdisc, PubMed, and Embase were searched, and meta-analysis was performed by Review Manager 5.2 software. Results. Altogether 11 studies were included with 12890 individuals. The results showed that balanced constitution was a protective factor of dyslipidemia (OR = 0.62, 95% CI 0.47~0.82) while phlegm-dampness constitution was a risk factor of it (OR = 2.50, 95% CI 2.22~2.80), and the effect of phlegm-dampness constitution in South China (OR = 3.31, 95% CI 1.71~6.43) was more obvious than that in East (OR = 2.40, 95% CI 2.06~2.80) and North China (OR = 2.24, 95% CI 1.81~2.78). Conclusion. This study provides evidence for the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia in TCM. However, most of the studies included are of moderate quality; more high quality, multicenter, large-sample studies are expected to provide higher level evidence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Alkaline intrusions such as ultrapotassic syenites are typically formed in extensional tectonic settings including continental rift, post-orogenic and post-collisional regimes. Here we present two early Mesozoic ultrapotassic syenite plutons (Tieshan and Yangfang) in South China that were formed in a continent collisional setting. LA-ICP-MS zircon U Pb chronological, major and trace elemental, and Sr Nd isotopic data of these syenites are used to explore their origin and to further constrain the geodynamics of early Mesozoic magmatism in South China. Our new data indicate that the Tieshan and Yangfang plutons were formed in Early Triassic (249 Ma) and Middle Triassic (240 Ma), respectively. The Tieshan and Yangfang syenites have SiO 2 contents of 50.84–56.95 wt% and 59.13–68.34 wt%, respectively, both are enriched in alkalis with very high K 2 O (5.60–9.68 wt%) and K 2 O/Na 2 O (1.8–15.7) and in LILE (Ba = 2464–8813 ppm; Sr = 652–3499 ppm), REE (498–1355 ppm) and HFSE (Zr = 264–766 ppm). They show enriched Sr Nd isotopic compositions with 87Sr/86Sr (t) and ε Nd (t) of 0.7096–0.7102 and − 5.2 to −6.5, respectively for Tieshan and of 0.7112–0.7119 and − 8.8 to −9.7, respectively for Yangfang. Geochemical data suggest that the studied ultrapotassic syenites were derived by partial melting of ancient subduction-modified lithospheric mantle including slab-derived melt hybridization and slab-derived carbonate fluid metasomatism, with the source depth of 60–90 km for Tieshan and at least 90 km for Yangfang. We further suggest that their origins are related to the transtension of the regional NE–trending strike-slip faults caused by continental collisions during the early Mesozoic amalgamation in East Asia. • Tieshan and Yangfang ultrapotassic syenites emplaced during Early to Middle Triassic. • Both syenites formed by partial melting of ancient subduction-modified mantle. • Their origin was related to transtension of regional NE–trending strike-slip faults. • Their formation was coupled with Late Permian to Triassic amalgamation in East Asia. The origin of A-type granites is purely circumstantial. Granitic complexes are quite common and generally composed of different type granites. I- and A-type granite association in a granitic complex is often described in the literature. Here we present a granitic complex, i.e. the Pitou complex in southern Jiangxi province, South China that is composed of different varieties of A-type granites. Detailed zircon LA-ICP-MS U Pb chronology and in situ Hf isotope, mineral chemistry and whole-rock element and Sr Nd isotope data of this granitic complex are used to explore their origin and to further constrain the geodynamics of Mesozoic magmatism in South China. Our new data indicate that the Pitou complex was emplaced during the Late Triassic (237 Ma) (central to northern part) and Early Jurassic (188–185 Ma) (southern part), respectively and that both the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic granites belong to A-type but show contrasting origins. The Late Triassic granites show an association of alkali-feldspar granite-syenogranite-monzogranite and the rock type of the Early Jurassic granites is alkali-feldspar granite. All the granites are composed mainly of K-feldspar, quartz, plagioclase and biotite (ferri-biotite or annite) with biotite occurring as anhedral crystal, interstitial to quartz and feldspar. Both the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic granites have high SiO 2 (>70 wt%) and total alkalis (K 2 O + Na 2 O > 8 wt%) with high FeO T /(FeO T + MgO) and low Mg#. They are enriched in rare earth elements (except Eu) and depleted in Sr and Ba. They display Zr + Y + Ce + Nb >350 ppm, 10,000 × Ga/Al >2.6 and have high zircon saturation temperatures (>800 °C). Biotites in the granites are Fe-rich with very low Fe3+/Fe2+, indicating fairly reducing conditions. However, the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic granites also show some geochemical differences. The Late Triassic granites have lower FeO T /(FeO T + MgO) and higher Mg# than the Early Jurassic granites, with the Mg# of the former consistent with pure crustal melts and the Mg# of the latter much lower than pure crustal melts. In addition, the Late Triassic granites have lower zircon saturation temperatures (up to 843 °C, average 823 °C) than the Early Jurassic granites (up to 946 °C, average 875 °C). Furthermore, the Late Triassic granites have high 87Sr/86Sr (t) (0.7132–0.7226) and negative ε Nd (t) (−10.3 to −10.9) and ε Hf (t) (in situ zircon) (−11.5 to −11.6) that are similar to those of the early Paleozoic granitoids in the region whereas the Early Jurassic granites have low 87Sr/86Sr (t) (down to 0.7034) and positive ε Nd (t) (up to +3.0) and ε Hf (t) (in situ zircon) (up to +8.3) that are similar to those of the Early Jurassic gabbroic rocks in the region. Geochemical data and major element modeling suggest that the Late Triassic A-type granites were formed by shallow (ca. 15–20 km depth) dehydration melting of the early Paleozoic granitoids triggered by intraplating of basaltic magmas and the Early Jurassic A-type granites were produced by extensive fractionation (ca. 90% to 95%) from gabbroic magmas by removal of plagioclase, amphibole, K-feldspar, clinopyroxene and magnetite. We further suggest the origin of the Late Triassic A-type granites was related to the transtension of the regional NE–trending strike-slip faults caused by the early Indosinian continental collisions and the Early Jurassic A-type granites were emplaced in a back-arc extensional setting coupled with the slab rollback and subsequent slab break-off of the subducted Palaeo-Pacific plate. Our new data confirm that the early Mesozoic magmatism in South China was controlled by continental collisions during the Late Permian to Triassic amalgamation in Southeast Asia whereas the late Mesozoic magmatism was related to the northwestward subduction of the Palaeo-Pacific plate. Abstract: The western Kunlun orogen, the northwest Tibet Plateau, occupies a key tectonic position at the junction between the Pan-Asia and the Tethyan tectonic domains. It is related to subduction of Proto- and Paleo-Tethys and terrane collision from early Paleozoic to early Mesozoic. This paper presents the first detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, mineral chemistry, major and trace element, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope geochemistry of three Middle Triassic plutons (Yuqikapa, Muztaga and Taer) and their microgranular enclaves in the western Kunlun orogen. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating shows that the Yuqikapa pluton was emplaced in the Anisian (~243Ma) and the Muztaga and Taer plutons that contain microgranular enclaves were emplaced in the Ladinian (234–227Ma). The Yuqikapa pluton is composed of peraluminous high-K calc-alkaline two-mica granites (monzogranite–syenogranite–alkali-feldspar granite), with initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7071–0.7077, ε Nd (T) of −4.4 to −6.3 and ε Hf (T) (in-situ zircon) of −3.3. Elemental and isotopic data suggest that they were formed by “wet” anatexis of the Precambrian metasedimentary and metaigneous rocks in the continental collision (overthrust) zone. The Muztaga and Taer plutons consist of metaluminous to weakly peraluminous high-K calc-alkaline granitoids (granodiorite–monzogranite), with initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7052−0.7104, ε Nd (T) of −3.6 to −7.3 and ε Hf (T) (in-situ zircon) of −3.1 to −1.0. Elemental and isotopic data suggest that they were formed by partial melting of the Precambrian metasedimentary and metaigneous rocks in the normal lower-crust (<40km) for the Muztaga pluton and in the thickened lower-crust (~40–50km) for the Taer pluton, triggered by underplating of coeval (233–226Ma) mantle-derived enclave-forming magmas. The enclaves are basic (SiO2 48.0–51.6wt.%) to intermediate (SiO2 53.0–54.6wt.%) with high K2O (1.4–4.2wt.%). They generally have lower initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7034–0.7084) and high initial ε Hf (−1.1 to +1.2) than their respective host granitoids. The enclave magmas are considered to have been derived from the partial melting of subduction-modified mantle in the spinel stability field (<60km) (enclaves in the Muztaga pluton) and the spinel-garnet transition zone (~60–80km) (enclaves in the Taer pluton). Final closure of the Paleo-Tethys occurred in the Middle Triassic Anisian (~243Ma). Abstract: This paper presents detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, mineral chemistry, major and trace element, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope geochemistry of two Cenozoic plutons (Karibasheng and Kuzigan) in western Tibetan Plateau, China. The Karibasheng pluton is composed of monzogranite, and the Kuzigan pluton consists of syenogranite, diopside-bearing syenite and diopside syenite. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating on monzogranite, syenogranite and diopside syenite shows that they were emplaced in Miocene (12–10Ma). These rocks are metaluminous and show the affinities with shoshonitic rocks, i.e., alkali-rich (K2O+Na2O=8.6–13.4wt.%), high K2O contents (4.7–10.6wt.%) with high K2O/Na2O ratios (1.2–4.6), enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) (e.g., Ba=2200–9100ppm; Sr=840–3100ppm, most >1100ppm) and rare earth elements (REE), especially light REE (LREE) (La/Yb up to 168). The rocks are depleted in high field strength elements (HFSE) but show high Nb/Ta ratios (13.3–30.7). The granites have lower initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7091–0.7099) and higher εNd (T) values (−7.1 to −9.5) than the syenites that have initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7095–0.7117 and εNd (T) values of −8.6 to −12.2. Their zircon εHf (T) values (−7.2 to −9.7) are coupled with their whole-rock εNd (T) values, and plot along the mantle array. The amphibole–plagioclase thermometer and estimation of apatite saturation temperature indicate that the primary magmas had high temperatures (up to 880°C for the granites and up to 1100°C for the syenites). The source depth for the granites and syenites is <70–100km inferred by the metasomatic volatile phase (amphibole–phlogopite) relation, and thus most probably within the upper part of lithospheric mantle. Detailed elemental and isotopic data and major element modeling suggest that the granites and syenites were derived directly by partial melting of the veined lithospheric mantle that had been hybridized by the continental slab-derived melts. The origin of microgranitoid enclaves in granitic plutons has long been debated (hybrid magma blobs vs. refractory restites or cognate fragments). This article presents detailed petrography, SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, bulk-rock major and trace element analyses, and Sr–Nd isotope and in situ zircon Hf isotopic geochemistry for microgranitoid enclaves within two Late Triassic granitic plutons in the Qinling orogen. Zircon U–Pb dating shows that the enclaves formed during the Carnian (222.5 ± 2.1 to 220.7 ± 1.9 Ma) coeval with their host granitoids (220.0 ± 2.0 to 218.7 ± 2.4 Ma). Field and petrological observations (e.g. double enclaves, xenocrysts, acicular apatite, and poikilitic K-feldspar or quartz) suggest that the enclaves are globules of a mantle-derived more mafic magma that was injected into and mingled with the host magma. The enclaves are mainly ultrapotassic, distinct from the host granitoids that have high-K calc-alkaline bulk-rock compositions. Although the enclaves have closely similar bulk-rock Sr–Nd isotope [initial 87Sr/86Sr = 0.7046–0.7056, ϵNd (T) = –0.3 to –5.0] and in situ zircon Hf isotope [ϵHf (T) = –1.5 to +2.9] ratios as the granitoids [initial 87Sr/86Sr = 0.7042–0.7059, ϵNd (T) = –0.6 to –6.3, ϵHf (T) = –2.2 to +1.6], chemical relationships including very different bulk-rock compositions at a given SiO2 content lead us to interpret the isotopic similarities as reflecting similar but separate isotopic source rocks. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that the enclaves and the host granitoids were emplaced in a continental arc environment coupled with northward subduction of the Palaeo-Tethyan oceanic crust. Partial melting of subducted sediments triggered by dehydration of the underlying igneous oceanic crust, with melts interacting with the overlying mantle wedge, formed high-K calc-alkaline granitic magmas, whereas partial melting of diapiric phlogopite-pyroxenites, solidified products of the same subducting sediment-derived melts, generated ultrapotassic magmas of the microgranitoid enclaves. Our new data further confirm that in the Late Triassic time the Qinling terrane was an active continental margin rather than a post-collisional regime, giving new insights into the tectonic evolution of this orogen. Most Old World monkeys show male-biased dispersal. We present the first systematic data on male dispersal in a provisioned multilevel group of Rhinopithecus roxellana, based on 4.5 years of field observations in Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, China. We evaluated both ultimate (inbreeding avoidance and male mating competition) and proximate (food availability and predation risk) factors influencing male dispersal. The focal group contained 34-53 individuals, in 3-4 one-male units (OMUs) and 1 all-male unit (AMU). We observed 37 dispersal events involving 10 of 11 adults, 7 of 8 subadults, and 7 of 15 juveniles. Most interunit transfers within the focal group occurred around the months of mating season. Adult males competed for the leader positions of OMUs mainly through aggressive takeovers, and young males transferred from the OMUs to the AMU at the median age of 41 months, forced out by leader males. No young males older than 4 years remained in natal or non-natal OMUs. The male mating competition hypothesis was supported. The young males emigrated voluntarily from the focal group at the average age of 58.6 months, and no young emigrating male was observed to return, suggesting inbreeding avoidance also played a role in the dispersal of young males. Most emigration/immigration events were parallel dispersal and occurred during intergroup encounters, suggesting increased predation risk during the dispersal period. Males were more likely to emigrate/immigrate during the months when preferred foods were most available. We compared the dispersal patterns in R. roxellana with those in gelada baboons and hamadryas baboons, both living in multilevel societies. Similar to R. roxellana, young male geladas disperse at puberty, but they may return and breed in their natal groups. Males in hamadryas also disperse, but much less commonly than in R. roxellana. This paper presents detailed mineral chemical, element geochemical and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopic data for the Late Jurassic (155 ± 4 Ma) lamprophyre dikes in the Liaodong Peninsula, NE China. The lamprophyres are shoshonitic and geochemically fall into three groups: Group I has relatively high SiO (52.5-57.0 wt.%), low MgO (5.5-8.3 wt.%) and compatible trace element (e.g. Cr = 128-470 ppm) contents, high initial Sr/Sr ratios (0.7093-0.7117), and low ε (T) values (−9.6 to −12.1); Group II has relatively low SiO (44.8-50.0 wt.%), high MgO (10.8-14.2 wt.%) and compatible trace element (e.g. Cr = 456-1,041 ppm) contents, low initial Sr/Sr ratios (0.7073-0.7087), and high ε (T) values (−1.4 to −2.9); Group III is transitional between the two in all elemental and isotopic compositions. Interpretation of the elemental and isotopic data suggests that the lamprophyric melts were derived by partial melting of subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) at a depth of 60-80 km (group I), decompression melting of upwelling asthenosphere at 60-100 km (group II), and mixing between the SCLM-derived and asthenosphere-derived melts (group III). It is assumed that the local SCLM was detached at a depth of 60-80 km by the 155 Ma ago. This paper presents detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, mineral chemistry, major and trace element, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope geochemistry of the Datong pluton and its quenched enclaves from the western Kunlun orogen, northwest China, in an attempt to achieve a better understanding on the origin of diverse arc magmas. The Datong host granitoids are intermediate to acid in composition (SiO = 57.5 ~ 73.1 wt.%), and exhibit high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic affinities. The quenched enclaves are silica-rich ultrapotassic rocks. Detailed SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating indicates that the Datong pluton was emplaced in Ordovician time (473.4–447.7 Ma), which places the Datong pluton in an active continental margin setting, rather than a syn-collision setting of Early Silurian age. The Datong host granitoids were derived by partial melting of subducted sediments, with the subsequent melt interacting with the overlying mantle wedge during its ascent. Partial melting of the veined mantle wedge hybridized by sediment-derived melts generated the silica-rich ultrapotassic magma, which was injected into the Datong granitoid magma chamber and quenched, resulting in enclaves hosted by granitoids. This contribution provides evidence that arc magmas can be derived directly by partial melting of subducted sediments, which is helpful to further understand the origin of diverse arc magmas. Abstract: The Qinling–Dabie–Sulu orogen marks the junction between the North and South China Blocks. However, the exact timing of the final coalescence of the North and South China Blocks in the Qinling orogen is poorly constrained. This paper presents new SHRIMP zircon U–Pb chronology, major and trace elements, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotope data for five early Mesozoic granitic plutons across the Qinling orogen. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating shows that four plutons were emplaced in the Carnian (227–218Ma) of Late Triassic with a southward-younging trend and one pluton was emplaced in the Norian (∼211Ma) of Late Triassic. The Carnian plutons consist of high-K calc-alkaline granitoids (quartz monzodiorite, quartz monzonite, granodiorite and monzogranite) and calc-alkaline diorite. These rocks are mainly metaluminous and are characterized by high Sr and low Y and Yb contents, with high Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios, and by high Mg#, higher than pure crustal melts. The Norian pluton is composed of high-K calc-alkaline two-mica granites, which are peraluminous. These granites have low Sr and high Y and Yb contents and show similar Mg# to pure crustal melts. Detailed elemental and isotopic data suggest that the Carnian plutons were emplaced in a continental arc setting coupled with the northward subduction of the Paleo-Tethyan oceanic crust. Partial melting of subducted sediments triggered by dehydration of the underlying igneous oceanic crust, with subsequent melts interacting with the overlying mantle wedge, formed the high-K calc-alkaline granitic magmas. Partial melting of the hybridized peridotitic mantle wedge induced by slab melts generated the calc-alkaline dioritic magma. The Norian pluton was emplaced during continental collision between the South Qinling terrane and South China Block, which marks the final integration of the North and South China Blocks. Partial melting of subducted sediments at a shallow depth (<30km) in the collision (overthrust) zone could account for the origin of the Norian peraluminous granites. Our new data suggest that the final coalescence of the North and South China Blocks in the Qinling orogen is not synchronous with that in the Dabie–Sulu orogen, and thus, the Paleo-Tethyan oceanic basin between the North and South China Blocks most likely occurred as a ‘scissors-like’ shape, with closure in the Anisian (∼240Ma) of Middle Triassic in the eastern part (Dabie–Sulu) and in the Norian (∼211Ma) of Late Triassic in the western part (Qinling). Abstract: Extensive middle to late Jurassic felsic and mafic magmatism occurred in the southern Hunan province, southeast China. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating, mineral chemical, element geochemical and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic data have been determined for these rocks. The results indicate that the middle Jurassic (178–170 Ma) Changchengling and Ningyuan basaltic rocks belong to tholeiitic series and alkaline series, respectively, and were formed by fractional crystallization of the parent magmas that were derived from partial melting of asthenospheric mantle triggered by the slab-released fluids of the subducted Paleo-Pacific plate. The late Jurassic (152–146 Ma) Daoxian basalts and Guiyang lamprophyre dikes are low-Ti, high-Mg potassic rocks. They were derived directly by partial melting of shallower (60–100 km) lithospheric mantle composed of amphibole- and phlogopite-bearing lherzolite in response to thermal perturbations associated with the rifting of continental arc. The middle Jurassic (164 Ma) Tongshanling granitic rocks belong to calc-alkaline series and are strongly peraluminous. They were formed by partial melting of Palaeoproterozoic metasedimentary basement in the lower-crust plus additional input from coeval basaltic magma. The late Jurassic (156 Ma) Jinjiling and Xishan granitic rocks show A2 subtype affinity. They were generated by partial melting of granulitized Palaeoproterozoic metamorphic basement in the lower crust in response to injection of coeval low-Ti, high-Mg potassic magmas. A moderate degree (56–58%) of fractionation of these pure crustal melts could account for more felsic end-member of granitic rocks. Detailed petrologic and geochemical data for the middle to late Jurassic felsic and mafic rocks from the southern Hunan imply that during the middle Jurassic time SE China on the southeast of the Shi-Hang zone was a continental arc coupled with the subduction of the Palaeo-Pacific plate and since the beginning of late Jurassic time an intra-arc rift has been formed along the Shi-Hang zone as a consequence of slab roll-back. Two suites of granitoids, the Late Jurassic (158 ± 3 Ma) Linglong suite and the Early Cretaceous (130-126 Ma) Guojialing suite, crop out in the northwestern Jiaodong Peninsula, eastern China. The Linglong suite is a monzogranite, comprising alkali feldspar, plagioclase, quartz and Ferich biotite. The Guojialing suite includes at least five plutonic bodies of both granodiorite and monzogranite. The rocks are composed of plagioclase, alkali feldspar, quartz, Mg-rich amphibole and Mg-rich biotite. Both the Linglong and Guojialing suites have adakitic affinity. They are enriched in LREE with high La/Yb ratios and show positive Eu anomalies. The rocks are also enriched in LILE and depleted in HFSE with high Sr/Y ratios. The Linglong granite shows very uniform Sr--Nd isotopic compositions with initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7119-0.7126 and εNd (T) values of -21.3 to -21.6, which are similar to those of the local Neoarchaean basement. The Guojialing suite has variable initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7108-0.7120) and εNd (T) values (-10.8 to -17.2), which are distinct both from those of the Neoarchaean basement and from those of the local enriched lithospheric mantle inferred from the coeval mafic dykes in the studied area. Detailed petrological and geochemical data indicate that the Linglong suite was derived by partial melting of Neoarchaean metamorphic lower-crustal rocks at depth of > 50 km with a eclogite residue, whereas the Guojialing suite was formed by the reaction of delaminated eclogitic crust-derived melt with the upwelling asthenospheric mantle. The petrogenesis of these two contrasting adakitic granitoids suggests intensive lower-crustal delamination during Early Cretaceous times, following a crustal thickening process from the late stage of the Early Jurassic to early stage of the Late Jurassic with crustal thickness of < 32 km to > 50 km, respectively. A series of granitoids from Proterozoic to Cenozoic age occurred in the western Kunlun orogenic belt, Xinjiang, northwestern China. Several intrusions such as the West Datong (Middle Caledonian age), North Kuda (Late Caledonian age) and Kuzigan, Karibasheng, Zankan (Himalayan age) plutons have shoshonitic affinity. Their rock assemblages include (quartz) monzodiorite–(quartz) monzonite–quartz syenite (Middle Caledonian) or monzonitic granite–granite (Late Caledonian) or biotite (monzonitic) granite–diopside granite–diopside syenite (Himalayan). Generally, biotite is iron–phlogopite, with some eastonite and high Mg/(Mg+FeT) and Fe3+/Fe2+ ratio. Amphibole is mainly edenitic hornblende and magnesian hastingsitic hornblende, with some edenite and higher Mg/(Mg+FeT) and Fe3+/Fe2+ ratio. The rocks show SiO2 contents of 52.77–71.85% and high K2O+Na2O (mostly >8%, average 9.14%), K2O/Na2O (mostly >1, average 1.50) and Fe2O3/FeO (0.85–1.51, average 1.01) and low TiO2 contents (0.15–1.12%, average 0.57%). Al2O3 contents (13.01–19.20%) are high but variable. The granitoids are prominently enriched in LILE, LREE and volatiles such as F. However, the studied shoshonitic granitoids among the three intrusive periods also show differences in isotopic compositions and trace element concentrations, suggesting their different geneses: the origin of the West Datong pluton is probably related to the involvement of subducted oceanic crust sediments into the mantle source; the North Kuda and Himalayan plutons could have been generated by partial melting of subducted oceanic crust sediments or metasediments of thickened continental lower crust in the process of late-orogenic slab break-off or lithospheric thinning. Objective. This analysis was aimed at providing evidence-based medicine basis for systematic evaluation of chondroitin combined with glucosamine in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods. The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of chondroitin combined with glucosamine in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) were searched in PubMed, EMBASE, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, China Knowledge Network Database (CNKI), China VIP Database, Wanfang Database, and China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM) online database. The retrieval time ranges from the database creation to the present. Two investigators gathered the information individually. The risk of bias was assessed using the criteria of the Cochrane back review group. RevMan5.4 statistical software analyzed the selected data. Results. A total of 6 RCT articles were obtained. Overall, 764 samples were evaluated by meta-analysis. The clinical efficacy of chondroitin combined with glucosamine was significantly better than that of routine treatment by meta-analysis. The confidence interval of 95% was (4.86, 17.08) (Z = 6.89 , P < 0.00001). The scores of joint pain, tenderness, swelling, and dysfunction in patients with knee osteoarthritis treated with chondroitin combined with glucosamine were significantly lower than those treated with routine treatment. There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between chondroitin combined with glucosamine and single treatment of KOA. Due to the small number of documents included in the analysis, it is not suitable to make a funnel chart, but there may be some publication deviation in the analysis. Conclusion. Chondroitin combined with glucosamine is more effective than chondroitin or glucosamine alone in the treatment of KOA and deserves clinical promotion. However, this conclusion still needs to be supported by multicenter, high-quality, double-blind, large-sample randomized controlled clinical trials due to the limitations of the six trials included. The Jiaodong Peninsula is the largest gold concentration district in China and the third largest one in the world. It covers no >0.2% of China's total landmass yet accounts for 30% of the total national gold reserves with total proved resources near 5000 t Au. One wonders where all this gold comes from. Here we present detailed whole-rock element and Sr-Nd-Pb isotope, quartz H-O isotope and pyrite He-Ar isotope geochemical data for the Xiadian gold deposit, a large Jiaojia-type gold deposit in the Jiaodong district, which furnishes new constrains on the sources of ore-forming fluids and metals. The results indicate that the ore and alterated rock have much higher HREE (e.g. Yb and Y), HFSE (e.g. Nb, Ta, Zr and Hf) and transition elements (e.g. Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Co and Ni) than the host granites but similar to the lithospheric mantle-derived lamprophyres, suggesting an enriched lithospheric mantle origin. The H-O isotopes (δD V-SMOW = −93.9‰ to −102.3‰, δ18O H2O = −0.2‰ to 1.6‰) of fluid inclusions in quartzs collected from auriferous pyrite–sericite–quartz altered rocks are distinctly different from either primary magmatic water and metamorphic water or meteoric water in the Jiaodong district but similar to the local enriched mantle-derived fluids. The He-Ar isotopes [3He/4/He = 0.58 × 10−6 to 1.90 × 10−6 (0.42–1.36 Ra), 40Ar/36Ar = 725–1358] of fluid inclusions in pyrites collected from auriferous pyrite–sericite–quartz altered rocks are also similar to the local enriched mantle-derived fluids. The ore and alterated rock have distinct Nd-Pb isotopic compositions either from the host Linglong granites or from the asthenosphere-derived mafic dikes but similar to the lithospheric mantle-derived mafic dikes. Their Sr isotopic compositions show a mix trend between the lithospheric mantle-derived mafic dikes and Neoarchaean basement. All the elemental and multiple isotopic features support a metallogenic model that the ore-forming fluids and metals were derived from the local previously enriched lithospheric mantle, and such deeply sourced fluids may have interacted with Neoarchaean basement along their flow path and mixed with a little meteoric water when they arrived high levels in the crust. • We have identified hydrothermal zircons from the Xiadian gold deposit, Jiaodong. • They show homogeneous low CL-response image and have high U with low Th/U. • Direct LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating shows the Paleocene gold mineralization. • In-situ Hf isotopes suggest lithospheric mantle-derived ore-forming fluids. The eastern North China Craton is characteristic of Mesozoic cratonic destruction and largescale gold mineralization. Previous geochronological studies by 40Ar–39Ar dating on alteration minerals such as sericite and K-feldspar and Rb–Sr and 40Ar–39Ar dating on quartz and pyrite suggested that the gold mineralization occurred in Early Cretaceous. We have identified hydrothermal zircons from the orebody and alterated rocks in the Xiadian gold deposit, Jiaodong Peninsula. These zircons contain two phase (vapor-liquid) fluid inclusions or enclose hydrothermal alteration minerals such as sericite. They show homogeneous low CL-response image and have high U with low Th/U, and also show enriched and flatter normalized LREE pattern with high La and low (Sm/La) N and Ce/Ce* relative to magmatic zircons. Their petrographical, textural and compositional features strongly suggest that they mainly crystallized from the hydrothermal fluids during the pyrite–sericite–quartz alteration that was closely related to the gold mineralization. Direct LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating on such hydrothermal zircons indicates that the gold mineralization in the Xiadian deposit mainly occurred during the Paleocene and underwent a prolonged metallogenic process (68.7–56.7 Ma), most likely commenced at the end of Cretaceous and lasted at the end of Paleocene. In-situ Hf isotopic compositions of the hydrothermal and inherited zircons suggest that the ore-forming fluids might have been derived from an enriched lithospheric mantle, followed by interacting with Archean metamorphic basement during ascent. Such a gold mineralization event might have been associated with the early Cenozoic uppermost lithospheric thinning in eastern North China Craton. The Huashandong W deposit (7.7 Mt @ 0.26% WO3) is a newly discovered Neoproterozoic scheelite-dominated deposit in the world-class Jiangnan tungsten belt, South China. It occurs largely in metasedimentary rocks near the western margin of the Neoproterozoic Jiuling batholith and mainly consists of W-bearing exogreisen, hydrothermal breccias, and quartz veins. Two episodes of Neoproterozoic granite magmatism are identified with zircon U-Pb ages of ca. 830–823 and 807–804 Ma, respectively. According to cross-cutting relationships and mineral assemblages, two periods of hydrothermal alteration and W mineralization, corresponding to the two episodes of granite magmatism, are recognized in the Huashandong deposit. The early period is dominated by greisenization and associated scheelite mineralization whereas the late period is characterized by sericitization, hydrothermal brecciation, quartz veining, and associated scheelite and minor wolframite mineralization. Molybdenite Re-Os dating indicates that the early- and late-period W mineralization took place at ca. 828 and 800 Ma, respectively. Zircon trace element characteristics suggest that the Jiuling granite crystallized from reduced granitic magmas and has the potential for W mineralization. The petrologic and geochemical features of the Jiuling granite, coupled with the zircon U-Pb ages and Hf isotopic signatures and molybdenite Re-Os ages, imply that the Huashandong W deposit is genetically related to two phases of evolved granodiorites in the Jiuling batholith. Background: Growth chart is a valuable clinical tool to monitor the growth and nutritional status of children. A growth chart widely used in China is based on the merged data sets of national surveys in 2005. We aimed to establish an up-to-date, complete growth curve for urban Chinese children and adolescents with a full range of ages. Methods: Using data collected in a large-scale, cross-sectional study (Prevalence and Risk factors for Obesity and Diabetes in Youth (PRODY), 2017–2019), we analyzed 201,098 urban children aged 3 to 18 years from 11 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities that are geographically representative of China. All participants underwent physical examinations. Sex-specific percentiles of height-for-age and weight-for-age were constructed by Generalized Additive Models for Location Scale and Shape (GAMLSS) model. We also compared the median values of height-for-age or weight-for-age between our growth chart and the established growth reference using Welch-Satterthwaite T-Test. Results: Consistent with the established growth reference, we observed that the P50 percentile of height-for-age reached plateaus at the age of 15 years (172 cm) and 14 years (160 cm) for boys and girls, respectively. In addition, boys aged 10 ~ 14 years and girls aged 10 ~ 12 years exhibited the most dramatic weight difference compared to those of other age groups (19.5 kg and 10.3 kg, respectively). However, our growth chart had higher median values of weight-for-age and height-for-age than the established growth reference with mean increases in weight-for-age of 1.36 kg and 1.17 kg for boys and girls, respectively, and in height-for-age of 2.9 cm and 2.6 cm for boys and girls, respectively. Background: Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia duodenalis and Enterocytozoon bieneusi can cause important intestinal diseases in ruminants. However, data on the distribution of these three protozoan pathogens in Tibetan sheep are limited. Methods: We collected 761 fecal samples from Tibetan sheep across four seasons in Qinghai Province, China, and screened the samples for Cryptosporidium spp., G. duodenalis and E. bieneusi using PCR-based sequence analysis of the genes encoding 18S ribosomal RNA, triosephosphate isomerase and the internal transcribed spacer, respectively. Results: The positivity rates of Cryptosporidium spp., G. duodenalis and E. bieneusi in Tibetan sheep were 3.68% (28/761 samples), 1.58% (12/761) and 6.44% (49/761), respectively. Four species of Cryptosporidium were identified: C. xiaoi (n = 13 samples), C. ubiquitum (n = 8), C. bovis (n = 6) and C. ryanae (n = 1). Two G. duodenalis assemblages, namely the A (n = 2 samples) and E (n = 10) assemblages, were detected. Five zoonotic E. bieneusi genotypes were found: BEB6 (n = 21 samples), COS-I (n = 14), CHS3 (n = 11) and CGS1 (n = 2) from group 2, and PIGEBITS5 (n = 1) from group 1. Geographic differences in the distribution of E. bieneusi, and seasonal differences for all the three protozoan pathogens were noted. Conclusions: Our results elucidate the prevalence and genetic diversity of these three pathogens in Tibetan sheep across different regions and seasons, including zoonotic pathogens such as C. ubiquitum, C. ryanae, G. duodenalis assemblage A and five genotypes of E. bieneusi. Background: To evaluate the effectiveness of individualized-dose polyethylene glycol recombinant human growth hormone (PEG-rhGH) for short stature. Methods: This real-world study enrolled children with short stature in 19 hospitals throughout China. They were treated with PEG-rhGH for 6 months. The starting dosage ranged from 0.10 to 0.20 mg/kg/week. The primary outcome was the change in height standard deviation score (ΔHt SDS). Results: Five hundred and ten patients were included and grouped based on dosage as A (0.10–0.14 mg/kg/week), B (0.15–0.16 mg/kg/week), C (0.17–0.19 mg/kg/week), and D (0.20 mg/kg/week). The mean 6-month ΔHt SDS for the total cohort was 0.49 ± 0.27, and the means differed among the four dose groups (P = 0.002). The ΔHt SDS was lower in group A than in groups B (LSM difference [95%CI], -0.09 [-0.17, -0.01]), C (LSM difference [95%CI], -0.10 [-0.18, -0.02]), and D (LSM difference [95%CI], -0.13 [-0.21, -0.05]) after adjusting baseline covariates. There were no significant differences among groups B, C, and D. When the baseline IGF-1 was < -2 SDS or > 0 SDS, the △Ht SDS was not different among the four groups (P = 0.931 and P = 0.400). In children with baseline IGF-1 SDS of -2 ~ 0 SDS, a higher dosage was associated with a better treatment effect (P = 0.003), and the △Ht SDS was lower in older children than in younger ones (P < 0.001). Conclusions: PEG-rhGH could effectively increase height in prepubertal short children. When the baseline IGF-1 was < -2 SDS, 0.10 mg/kg/week could be a starting dose. Background: The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) continues to be one of the major public health challenges in the world. Despite the advancement in medication and changes in views towards HIV in Chinese society, little is known about the changes in the psychosocial and mental health of HIV‐positive women in recent years. Objectives: The present study examined the change in depression, anxiety, stigma, relationship with the child, intimacy with a partner, and social support from family, friends, and health professionals, for HIV‐positive women in China from 2015 to 2020. Methods: Two cross‐sectional surveys were conducted in 2015 and 2020, and 429 and 382 HIV‐positive women were recruited from the Women's Health Department in Yunnan and Guangxi, China between November 2015 to May 2016, and November 2019 to January 2020, respectively. Results: After controlling for significant sociodemographic variables, participants recruited in 2019–2020 had significantly lower levels of depression and anxiety and higher scores on emotional and tangible support from friends. On the other hand, they had lower scores in intimacy with partners and emotional and tangible support from family. No significant changes were found in stigma, relationship with the child, and support from health professionals. Conclusion: Results provide important information on the changes in psychosocial and mental health, which offer insights into the design of interventions to promote psychosocial and mental health among HIV‐positive women in China. Skarn deposits are significant sources of copper, yet there are different understandings on their fluid evolution and precipitation mechanism due to lack of direct constraints on fluid compositions of mineralization process. Here, we present a detailed reconstruction of fluid evolution history from the pre-ore prograde stage through the syn -ore retrograde stage to the post-ore stage of the Chuankeng deposit in the North Wuyi area, South China, based on fluid inclusion microthermometry and LA-ICP-MS analysis of typical minerals from three stages. The pre-ore fluids trapped in pyroxene have higher homogenization temperatures (450–550 ℃), higher salinities (31.9–51.5 wt% NaCl equiv), but lower concentrations of Cu (∼556 ppm) than syn -ore fluids (338–465 ℃, 31.3–38.9 wt% NaCl equiv, ∼3247 ppm Cu). The post-ore fluids show lower temperatures (139-163℃), salinities (1.1–6.5 wt% NaCl equiv), and low concentrations of Cu (<387 ppm). Fluids of all paragenetic stages have high K/Na and Rb/Na ratios, exhibiting signatures of magmatic hydrothermal fluids. Mixing of the magmatic fluids with meteoric waters of lower temperature and salinity occurred at the final post-ore stage, thus it is not related to Cu mineralization. As the temperature descends from 445 ℃ to 340 ℃, the Cu/(Na + K) ratios of syn -ore fluids diminish exponentially, manifesting fluid cooling within a certain temperature may be an important factor controlling Cu mineralization. Concomitantly, a moderate negative correlation between the Ca/(Na + K) ratios and Cu/(Na + K) ratios of syn -ore fluids suggests that fluid-rock interaction do have some impact on copper contents. Additionally, the Cu/(Na + K) ratios of syn -ore fluids in quartz are an order of magnitude higher than those of pre-ore fluids, and it is proposed that during the initial retrograde stage—the onset of mineralization—the magma chamber released fluid pulse with higher copper contents. Based on these findings, the fluids of pre-ore prograde stage and syn -ore retrograde stage are distinct magmatic fluid pulses, and copper-rich fluids, thermal cooling within a specific temperature range and fluid-rock reaction are suggested to be key factors controlling metal enrichment in skarn copper systems. Introduction: Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) and Alzheimer's disease are the most common cognitive impairment diseases in the elderly. This study aimed to apply the Repeatable Battery for Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) scale to evaluate VCI in elderly patients and analyze its reliability and validity. Methods: We enrolled 278 VCI patients admitted to our hospital, from June 2017 to June 2018. The basic clinical information of each patient was documented, and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the RBANS scales were suggested to complete. Results: We found significant correlations between the RBANS total score and age, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease and years of education. The internal consistency of the RBANS scale Cronbach α suggested a good agreement with the total score and the single score at two time points. Moreover, the RBANS total score and the score of each dimension in the RBANS scale were positively correlated with the MMSE immediate memory, calculation ability, delayed memory, commanding ability, reading comprehension ability, command execution, sentence making, and pattern duplicating ability. Conclusion: In conclusion, the RBANS has good reliability and validity for the assessment of cognitive dysfunction in elderly VCI patients. With Visual Basic 6. 0 for compilation environment, used Matlab and Surfer to make secondary mixed programming, Analysed the drilling data and geological data and draw partition map of coal roof stability to form partition system. Background: Atopy may be associated with disease severity and a poor prognosis of human adenovirus (HAdV) pneumonia in children. Our aim was to observe the clinical characteristics and pulmonary radiological changes in children with atopy and HAdV pneumonia in China.Methods: Children hospitalised with HAdV pneumonia from June 2018 to December 2019 were analysed. All children were divided into atopic with HAdV, non-atopic with HAdV, and atopic without HAdV infection group. Each group was further divided into the mild and severe pneumonia groups according to disease severity. Standard treatment was initiated after admission, and regular follow-up evaluations were conducted at 1 month after discharge. Baseline and clinical characteristics and pulmonary radiological changes in children with and without atopy were evaluated. Risk factors associated with small airway lesions in patients with HAdV pneumonia were analysed.Results: The eosinophil count in the atopic group was significantly higher than that in the non-atopic group (P < 0.05). Severe coughing, wheezing, and small airway lesions on chest high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) upon admission, after discharge and 1 month after discharge were significantly higher in the atopic group (with or without HAdV infection) than in the non-atopic group (P < 0.05). There were significant differences in the number of patients with wheezing and small airway lesions during hospitalisation and after discharge among the three groups (P < 0.05). The risks of small airway lesions in children with a family or personal history of asthma, severe infection, atopy, and HAdV infection were 2.1-, 2.7-, 1.9-, 2.1-, and 1.4-times higher than those in children without these characteristics, respectively.Conclusions: Children with atopy and HAdV pneumonia may experience severe coughing in mild cases and wheezing in mild and severe cases. Children with atopy are more susceptible to the development of small airway lesions, recurrent wheezing after discharge and slower recovery of small airway lesions as observed on pulmonary imaging than non-atopic children after HAdV infection. A family or personal history of asthma, atopy, severe infection, and HAdV infection are independent risk factors associated with the development of small airway lesion as observed on chest HRCT. Through field observation and theoretical study, we found that the Hanxing mining area has a typical ternary structure in coal mining under high water pressure of the aquifer. This ternary structure is the Ordovician limestone aquifer-aquiclude including thin limestones-coal seam. Although the aquiclude is considerably thick, there is still a great risk of water burst during mining under water pressure in the deep burial environment. Multidimensional characteristics of floor water inrush in deep mining are summarized in the paper, including water migration upwardly driven by the Ordovician confined water, the planar dispersion of the water inrush channel, the stepped increase of the water inrush intensity, the hysteretic effluent of the water inrush time and the exchange, and adsorption of the water quality. The water inrush mechanism is clarified that the permeability, dilatancy, fracturing, and ascending of the water from the Ordovician limestone aquifer form a planar and divergent flow through the transfer, storage, and transportation of thin limestone aquifers. The corresponding water inrush risk evaluation equation is also proposed. Based on the thickness of the aquiclude, the thickness of the failure zones, and the water inrush coefficient, the floor aquiclude is classified into five categories. While water inrush cannot be completely controlled by the traditional underground floor reinforcement with ultra-thick aquiclude or even zonal grouting, a comprehensive prevention and control concept of the four-dimensional floor water hazard in full time-space domain are proposed. A tridimensional prevention and control model of three-dimensional reticulated exploration, treatment, verification, and supplementation is presented. A full time domain technological quality control process of condition assessment, exploration, remediation, inspection, evaluation, monitoring, and reassurance is formed, and a water disaster prevention method with full time-space tridimensional network in deep coal mining is established. Abstract: Radix swinhoei (H. Adams) is a freshwater snail commonly found in shallow regions of Lake Taihu. This research estimated, based on experiments, the consumption rates of R. swinhoei on three young submerged plants (Vallisneria spiralis, Hydrilla verticillata and Potamogeton malaianus) and its rates of nutrient release. Results showed that the snails consumed V. spiralis at the highest rate (23.34mgg−1 d−1), P. malaianus at a lower rate (11.97mgg−1 d−1), and H. verticillata at the lowest rate (7.04mgg−1 d−1). The consumption rates on V. spiralis varied significantly, with snail size, ranging from 13.63mgg−1 d−1 for large-size snails to 143.42mgg−1 d−1 for small-size ones. The average nutrient release rates of snails grazing on different macrophytes were 45.93μg PO4-P and 0.58mg NH4-Ng−1 d−1. The food species had a significant effect on NH4-N release rates but not on PO4-P. However, the snail size had a significant effect on PO4-P release rates and not on NH4-N. The present study indicates that through selective grazing and nutrient release, snails may impose a significant impact on the macrophyte community, which should be considered in managing the macrophytes of a lake. Abstract: Water quality experienced changes throughout the 3-year ecological engineering experiment in the drinking water source in Meiliang Bay of Lake Taihu. Average concentrations of TN, TP, NH4 +, BOD5 and transparency in the drinking water source during the period of July–December 2005 were 1.85, 0.13, 0.23, 3.03mgL−1 and 27.5cm, respectively, decreasing by 47.9%, 21.2%, 83.3%, 54.4% and 24.2%, compared to concentrations from the same period in 2003. Concentrations of chlorophyll a and COD were 89.9μgL−1 and 6.45mgL−1, increasing by 27.9% and 17.7%, compared to the values in 2003. Cyanobacteria (mainly Microcystis) dominated the phytoplankton community in the ecological engineering area during July–December 2005. Densities of cyanobacteria and Microcystis were higher in 2005 than in 2004 and higher inside the engineering area than outside. Density percentages of cyanobacteria and Microcystis to total algae were above 90% and 60% during the bloom period. Average density of flagellate algae was higher during July–December 2005 than in 2004. Changes in water quality in the engineering area resulted mainly from the weakening of waves, decrease in concentrations of suspended solids, and assimilation of mass algae and periphytons. In spite of initial improvement of water quality, cyanobacterial bloom still determined the phytoplankton dynamics and variations. Additionally, nutrient concentration still remained at a high level without control of external loading. Therefore, a more holistic approach and long-term management should be adopted in Lake Taihu. The gut microbiota represents a source of genetic and metabolic diversity of a complex polymicrobial ecosystem within its host. To investigate age-based variations of the gut microbiota among Shennongjia golden snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus roxellana hubeiensis), we characterized the microbial species in fecal samples from 18 Shennongjia golden snub-nosed monkeys evenly pooled into 3 aged groups (Group 1, 1-3 years; Group 2, 5-8 years; Group 3, above 12 years) in Shennongjia, Hubei Province, China. Genomic DNA was extracted from fecal samples, and the 16S rRNA gene V4 region was sequenced using the Illumina high-throughput MiSeq platform PE250. A total of 28 microbial phyla were identified in the gut microbiome of these monkeys with the ten most abundant phyla (i.e., Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Verrucomicrobia, Spirochaetes, Tenericutes, Proteobacteria, Planctomycetes, Fibrobacteres, Cyanobacteria, and Euryarchaeota). A total of 1,469 (of 16 phyla and 166 genera), 1,381 (of 16 phyla and 157 genera), and 1,931 (of 19 phyla and 190 genera) operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were revealed in Groups 1, 2, and 3, respectively, with Group 3 containing the most diverse groups of OTUs as revealed by the species relative abundance clustering analysis. These results suggest that the gut microbiota in these monkeys maintain a dynamic status, starting from the early developmental stages of life with the species relative abundance increasing with age. This is the first study to comprehensively characterize the gut microbiota and provide valuable information for monitoring the health and nutritional needs of this endangered primate at different ages. Summary: Andrographis paniculata is a herbaceous dicot plant widely used for its anti‐inflammatory and anti‐viral properties across its distribution in China, India and other Southeast Asian countries. A. paniculata was used as a crucial therapeutic treatment during the influenza epidemic of 1919 in India, and is still used for the treatment of infectious disease in China. A. paniculata produces large quantities of the anti‐inflammatory diterpenoid lactones andrographolide and neoandrographolide, and their analogs, which are touted to be the next generation of natural anti‐inflammatory medicines for lung diseases, hepatitis, neurodegenerative disorders, autoimmune disorders and inflammatory skin diseases. Here, we report a chromosome‐scale A. paniculata genome sequence of 269 Mb that was assembled by Illumina short reads, PacBio long reads and high‐confidence (Hi‐C) data. Gene annotation predicted 25 428 protein‐coding genes. In order to decipher the genetic underpinning of diterpenoid biosynthesis, transcriptome data from seedlings elicited with methyl jasmonate were also obtained, which enabled the identification of genes encoding diterpenoid synthases, cytochrome P450 monooxygenases, 2‐oxoglutarate‐dependent dioxygenases and UDP‐dependent glycosyltransferases potentially involved in diterpenoid lactone biosynthesis. We further carried out functional characterization of pairs of class‐I and ‐II diterpene synthases, revealing the ability to produce diversified labdane‐related diterpene scaffolds. In addition, a glycosyltransferase able to catalyze O‐linked glucosylation of andrograpanin, yielding the major active product neoandrographolide, was also identified. Thus, our results demonstrate the utility of the combined genomic and transcriptomic data set generated here for the investigation of the production of the bioactive diterpenoid lactone constituents of the important medicinal herb A. paniculata. Vocal individuality is a prerequisite for individual recognition, especially when visual and chemical cues are not available or effective. Vocalizations encoding information of individual identity have been reported in many social animals and should be particularly adaptive for species living in large and complexly organized societies. Here, we examined the individuality in coo calls of adult male golden snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus roxellana) living in a large and multilevel society. Coo calls are one of the most frequently occurring call types in R. roxellana and likely serve as the signals for contact maintenance or advertisement in various contexts including group movement, foraging, and resting. From April to October 2016, April to July 2017, and September to October 2017, we recorded a total of 721 coo calls from six adult males in a provisioned, free-ranging group and one adult male in captivity in Shennongjia National Park, China. We selected 162 high-quality recordings to extract 14 acoustic parameters based on the source-filter theory. Results showed that each of all parameters significantly differed among individuals, while pairwise comparisons failed to detect any parameter that was different between all pairs. Furthermore, a discriminant function analysis indicated that the correct assignment rate was 80.2% (cross-validation: 67.3%), greater than expected by chance (14.3%). In conclusion, we found evidence that coo calls of adult male R. roxellana allowed the reliable accuracy of individual discrimination complementarily enhanced by multiple acoustic parameters. To study rock spalling in deep tunnels at China Jinping Underground Laboratory Phase II (CJPL-II), photogrammetry method and digital borehole camera were used to quantify key features of rock spalling including orientation, thickness of slabs and the depth of spalling. The failure mechanism was analysed through scanning electron microscope and numerical simulation based on FLAC3D. Observation results clearly showed the process of rock spalling failure: a typical spalling pattern around D-shaped tunnels after top-heading and bottom bench were discovered. The orientation and thickness of the slabs were obtained. The slabs were parallel to the excavated surfaces of the tunnel and were related to the shape of the tunnel surface and orientation of the principal stress. The slabs were alternately thick and thin, and they gradually increased in thickness from the sidewall inwards. The form and mechanism of spalling at different locations in the tunnels, as influenced by stress state and excavation, were analysed. The result of this study was helpful to those rethinking the engineering design, including the excavation and support of tunnels, or caverns, at high risk of spalling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The NWW-striking North Qilian Orogenic Belt records the Paleozoic accretion–collision processes in NW China, and hosts Paleozoic Cu–Pb–Zn mineralization that was temporally and spatially related to the closure of the Paleo Qilian-Qinling Ocean. The Wangdian Cu deposit is located in the eastern part of the North Qilian Orogenic Belt, NW China. Copper mineralization is spatially associated with an altered early Paleozoic porphyritic granodiorite, which intruded tonalites and volcaniclastic rocks. Alteration zones surrounding the mineralization progress outward from a potassic to a feldspar-destructive phyllic assemblage. Mineralization consists mainly of quartz-sulfide stockworks and disseminated sulfides, with ore minerals chalcopyrite, pyrite, molybdenite, and minor galena and sphalerite. Gangue minerals include quartz, orthoclase, biotite, sericite, and K-feldspar. Zircon LA-ICPMS U–Pb dating of the ore-bearing porphyritic granodiorite yielded a mean 206 Pb/ 238 U age of 444.6 ± 7.8 Ma, with a group of inherited zircons yielding a mean U–Pb age of 485 ± 12 Ma, consistent with the emplacement age (485.3 ± 6.2 Ma) of the barren precursor tonalite. Rhenium and osmium analyses of molybdenite grains returned model ages of 442.9 ± 6.8 Ma and 443.3 ± 6.2 Ma, indicating mineralization was coeval with the emplacement of the host porphyritic granodiorite. Rhenium concentrations in molybdenite (208.9–213.2 ppm) suggest a mantle Re source. The tonalities are medium-K calc-alkaline. They are characterized by enrichment of light rare-earth elements (LREEs) and large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs), depletion of heavy rare-earth elements (HREEs) and high-field-strength elements (HFSEs), and minor negative Eu anomalies. They have ε Hf ( t ) values in the range of +3.6 to +11.1, with two-stage Hf model ages of 0.67–1.13 Ga, suggesting that the ca. 485 Ma barren tonalites were products of arc magmatism incorporating melts from the mantle wedge and the lithosphere. In contrast, the 40-m.y.-younger ore-bearing porphyritic granodiorite is sub-alkaline and peraluminous. They are enriched in LREEs and LILEs, depleted in HFSEs, and show weak negative Eu anomalies. They display ε Hf ( t ) values of captured or inherited zircons in the range of +8.5 to +10.0, and younger two-stage Hf model ages of 0.78 Ga and 0.86 Ga, similar to those of ca. 485 Ma tonalite. The ca. 445 Ma zircons have ε Hf ( t ) values of −2.1 to +9.9, with two-stage Hf model ages of 0.75–1.27 Ga. Moreover, they have relatively high oxygen fugacity than that of the precursor barren tonalite. The ca. 445 Ma magmas at Wangdian thus formed in a subduction setting, and incorporated melts from the subduction-modified lithosphere that had previously been enriched by additions of chalcophile and siderophile element-rich materials by the earlier magmatism and metasomatism during the Paleo Qilian-Qinling Ocean subduction event. This study explored nephrotoxicity in elderly Chinese patients after exposure to vancomycin and other nephrotoxic risk factors. This was a single-center retrospective study. The patient population included those who were ≥60 years of age, had normal baseline serum creatinine values, and received vancomycin for ≥48 h between January 1, 2013 and August 30, 2014. Nephrotoxicity occurred in 29% of 124 patients. A baseline creatinine clearance ≥63.5 ml/min was more common in the nephrotoxic group. Patients with high (≥15 mg/l) rather than low (<15 mg/l) average vancomycin troughs had elevated nephrotoxicity (47.2 vs. 27.3%, p = 0.0001). Of the comorbid conditions evaluated, there were more patients with shock (p = 0.001), hypertension (p = 0.020) and congestive heart failure (p = 0.04) in the nephrotoxic group. Drugs frequently given at the same time with vancomycin, such as angiotensin receptor blockers and furosemide, were also associated with increased nephrotoxic risk. In conclusion, nephrotoxicity was frequently observed in patients with concurrent vancomycin trough concentrations ≥15 μg/ml and hypertension, shock, congestive heart failure. In addition, drugs concurrently used with vancomycin may also increase its nephrotoxicity. Mafic microgranular enclaves (MMEs) are common in the monzogranites from the Yangba pluton in the Bikou Terrane of central China. Zircon LA-ICP-MS U–Pb dating yields ages of 208.7 ± 0.7 Ma and 209.3 ± 0.9 Ma for the host monzogranites, and 211.9 ± 0.8 Ma for the MMEs, indicating formation from coeval magmas. The field occurrence and textures including spheroidal shapes, transitional contacts, igneous mineral assemblages, acicular apatites, and oscillatory zoning with repeated resorption surfaces in plagioclase, indicate that the MMEs crystallized from mafic magma that was injected into and mingled with the host felsic magma. The host monzogranites are intermediate-felsic, metaluminous, and lack typical peraluminous minerals or alkaline mafic minerals, suggesting their I-type affinity. The monzogranites display depletion in high field strength elements, with Nb and Ta anomalies, and enrichment in large ion lithophile elements and light rare earth elements (LREE), with slightly negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu ∗ = 0.72–0.93). The MMEs from the Yangba pluton are intermediate, metaluminous, and have higher K 2 O, Al 2 O 3 , Fe 2 O 3 T , MgO, Ni, and Cr contents than the pluton. The MMEs also display much higher total rare earth element (REE) concentrations and REE patterns that are sub-parallel to those of the host rocks, enrichments in Rb, Th, U, K, and LREE, and depletions in Ba, Nb, Ta, and Ti. These features are similar to those of the host rocks, indicating crust–mantle interaction during their petrogenesis. Zircons from the MMEs have highly variable ε Hf ( t ) values (−5.5 to +8.7) with corresponding two-stage Hf model ages ( T DM2 ) of 1.14 to 1.42 Ga, indicating they were derived from depleted mantle with crustal contamination. In contrast, zircons from host monzogranite show ε Hf ( t ) values ranging from −1.7 to +2.7, with T DM2 of 1.13 to 1.21 Ga, corresponding to that of the basement rocks in the Bikou Terrane, which indicates that these granitic magmas were probably derived from the Neoproterozoic juvenile lower crust with minor contribution of Mesoproterozoic ancient lower crust. The integrated petrology and elemental and isotopic geochemistry suggest that the MMEs and host monzogranites were generated by the interaction of a granitic magma and a mafic magma in the lower crust. We envisage that Neoproterozoic subcontinental lithosphere mantle-derived mafic magma intruded the lower continental crust during Late Triassic, following the Late Permian to Early Triassic collision between the South China and North China Blocks. Abstract: Lithospheric thinning and destruction of the North China Craton have been topics of active discussion throughout the last two decades, but the specific processes associated with lithospheric thinning remains controversial. Here we report co-occurrence of low-Ti (TiO2 <1.1wt.%, Ti/Y<270) and high-Ti (TiO2 >2wt.%, Ti/Y>370) types of lamprophyres in the Jiaodong Peninsula, eastern North China Craton in order to address this issue. Low-Ti lamprophyres are depleted in HFSE and enriched in Pb, both typical subduction signatures. We suggest they were derived from partial melting of an ancient and enriched lithospheric mantle, which was previously modified by slab-derived hydrous fluids. In contrast, the high-Ti lamprophyre has trace element patterns similar to many oceanic basalts with depletion of Pb but little or no HFSE depletion. We infer that they originated from partial melting of a convective asthenospheric mantle. Zircon U–Pb dating shows that both types of lamprophyres intruded the eastern North China Craton about 121Myr ago. Their indistinguishable ages thus appear to record a rapid transition from lithospheric to asthenospheric mantle source, suggesting further that the lithosphere beneath the eastern North China Craton was removed, potentially delaminated ca. 121Myr ago beneath Jiaodong Peninsula. The detachment of cratonic lithosphere is likely related to continental arc-rifting which resulted from Palaeo-Pacific plate subduction in the Mesozoic. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo (Orchidaceae) is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant. The stem contains an alkaloid that is the primary bioactive component. However, the details of alkaloid biosynthesis have not been effectively explored because of the limited number of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) available in GenBank. In this study, we analyzed RNA isolated from the stem of D. officinale using a single half-run on the Roche 454 GS FLX Titanium platform to generate 553,084 ESTs with an average length of 417 bases. The ESTs were assembled into 36,407 unique putative transcripts. A total of 69.97% of the unique sequences were annotated, and a detailed view of alkaloid biosynthesis was obtained. Functional assignment based on Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) terms revealed 69 unique sequences representing 25 genes involved in alkaloid backbone biosynthesis. A series of qRT-PCR experiments confirmed that the expression levels of 5 key enzyme-encoding genes involved in alkaloid biosynthesis are greater in the leaves of D. officinale than in the stems. Cytochrome P450s, aminotransferases, methyltransferases, multidrug resistance protein (MDR) transporters and transcription factors were screened for possible involvement in alkaloid biosynthesis. Furthermore, a total of 1061 simple sequence repeat motifs (SSR) were detected from 36,407 unigenes. Dinucleotide repeats were the most abundant repeat type. Of these, 179 genes were associated with a metabolic pathway in KEGG. This study is the first to produce a large volume of transcriptome data from D. officinale. It extends the foundation to facilitate gene discovery in D. officinale and provides an important resource for the molecular genetic and functional genomic studies in this species. The diet of Rhinopithecus roxellana is characterized by lichens, which are available year-round and an uncommon food source for nonhuman primates, supplemented by seasonal plant foods. We present the first study of foods eaten by R. roxellana in relation to nutritional chemistry in Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, Hubei Province, China. We analyzed the nutrients (crude protein, crude fat, and water soluble carbohydrate [WSC]) and feeding deterrents (crude fiber, condensed tannin [CT], and total phenolic [TP]) of 111 parts from 53 plant species and of 6 lichen species. Results showed that lichens were a good choice for R. roxellana living in habitats with limited and seasonally available plant foods. They contained higher concentrations of WSC than foliage, fat concentrations equivalent to those in plant parts (except fruits/seeds), and lower concentrations of fiber than mature leaves, flowers, and fruits. Although lichens were lower in protein than plant parts (except fruits), the monkeys could likely meet their protein requirement by eating seasonal plant foods rich in protein, including foliage, flowers, buds, and seeds. The monkeys were not observed to select foliage higher in protein, but appeared to select mature leaves higher in WSC and lower in fiber. Fruits were a good source of WSC and fat, and seeds were a good source of fat. Neither CT nor TP content showed negative effects on the selection of mature leaves or lichens. Am. J. Abstract: The Linglong granite is one of the most important Mesozoic plutons in the Shandong Peninsula, eastern China, and its petrogenesis has long been controversial, particularly with regard to the nature of source region and geodynamic setting. Our new precise zircon U–Pb dating results reveal that the Linglong granite was emplaced in the Late Jurassic (157–160Ma). In addition, abundant inherited zircons are identified in the granite with four groups of age peaked at ~208, ~750, ~1800 and ~2450Ma. Geochemical studies indicate that the Linglong granite is weakly peraluminous I–type granite, and is characterized by high SiO2, Sr and La, but low MgO, Y and Yb contents, strongly fractionated REE pattern and high Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios. It also exhibits high initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7097 to 0.7125), low εNd(t) (−17.7 to −20.3) and variable zircon εHf(t) (−22.2 to −8.7) values. Calculation of the zircon saturation temperature (TZr) reveals that the magma temperatures are 760±20°C, and the lowest TZr value of 740°C may be close to initial magma temperature of this inheritance-rich rock. Interpretation of the elemental and isotopic data suggests that the Linglong granite has some affinities with the adakite, and was most likely derived from partial melting of thickened lower crust without any significant contribution of mantle components. The presence of a large number of inherited zircons and variable Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic compositions reveal that the Linglong granite probably has multiple sources consisting of the lower crust of both South China Block and North China Block, as well as the collision-related alkaline rocks and UHP metamorphic rocks. The continental arc-rifting related to the Izanagi plate subduction was the most likely geodynamic force for formation of the Jurassic Linglong adakatic granite in the Shandong Peninsula.
