Introduction: Large artery intracranial occlusive disease including middle cerebral artery (MCA) is a major contributor to the incidence of stroke in China. The data on the prognosis of symptomatic atherosclerotic MCA occlusions (MCAO) are limited. We aimed to investigate the related factors of unfavorable outcomes in patients with stroke associated with MCAO.Material and methods: A total of 119 patients with MCAO symptom were enrolled in this retrospective longitudinal cohort study. All patients met inclusion criteria of cerebral angiography by CT angiography or magnetic resonance angiography. Stroke severity was assessed on admission using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and modified Rankin Scale (mRS).Results: We showed an average follow-up time of 46.8 months, within which 20 (19.6%) cases died and 14 (13.7%) cases had stroke recurrence. Using mRS as an evaluation index, the patients were divided into an unfavourable outcome group (mRS > 2, 48 cases) and a favourable outcome group (mRS ≤ 2, 54 cases). Logistic regression analysis suggests that age and NIHSS score were independent risk factors for a poor outcome value. Coexisting other cerebral vascular occlusion was an independent risk factor for stroke recurrence. Age was an independent risk factor for death.Conclusions: The prognosis of patients with MCAO was generally optimistic, with higher survival rate and longer survival time. As compared, elder age and higher NIHSS score both tend to be associated with worse prognosis of survival. MCAO patients with other extracranial or intracranial vascular occlusion have higher risk of recurrent stroke. Death rate increases with age among the MCAO patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The assessment of water resource responses to climate change is required in water resource planning and management, protecting environmental quality, and managing watersheds. This study modeled surface runoff and baseflow responses to variations in precipitation (0%, ±10%, and ±20%) and temperature (0 °C, ±1 °C, and ±2 °C) in 25 types of scenarios in the LanheWatershed (1140 km2), which possesses the typical hydrological and meteorological characteristics of the Loess Plateau in China. The study is based on the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), which was calibrated and validated using the coefficient of determination (R2), Nash-Suttcliffe (Ens), and Percent bias (PBIAS), using the observed streamflow of Shangjingyou Station, a unique gauging station in the study area. The model was calibrated with daily streamflow, from 1967 to 1996, and then validated from 1997 to 2011. R2, Ens, and PBIAS were 0.95 and 0.84, 0.78 and 0.72, and 0.6% and -9.1% in annual and monthly calibration periods, 0.90 and 0.78, 0.74 and 0.67, and 22.1% and 18.8% in annual and monthly validation periods, and the overall performance ratings was ?satisfactory?. The assessment indicates that surface runoff is likely to be more affected than baseflow when altering temperatures and precipitation, and the noticeable changes of surface and baseflow are from June to September and October to November, respectively. Results also indicate that surface runoff and baseflow are very sensitive to the projected reduction in temperature, rather than to an increase of temperature, while precipitation is a constant. In turn, when the temperature is a constant, the surface runoff is sensitive to the projected increase in precipitation and the baseflow is sensitive to the decrease in precipitation. Based on an in-depth survey of different typical areas that are selected in different regions and at different levels, this paper identifies the general characteristics of China’s urbanization, the impacts that economic development driven by both exogenous and endogenous engines has on the spatial pattern of urbanization, and the two urbanization paths: gradient development and hierarchal advancement. By analyzing such factors as population growth, population mobility, and economic and industrial development, it sums up five spatial patterns for future urbanization development trends. Through the analyses on the three aspects: whereabouts of the present 260 million migrant workers and their families, whereabouts of the new-born population and new working-age rural population, and the migrant scale of the existing agricultural labors moving to non-agricultural industries, this paper predicts that China’s urbanization rate will slow down in the next five to ten years, and will reach about 65 percent in around 2030. On the basis of the analyses, it puts forward that “Five-Six-Eleven” regional pattern of urbanization should be established to guide the overall strategy for spatial pattern optimization. To optimize the spatial pattern of urbanization, it proposes specific strategies including coordinated development of large, medium-sized, and small cities, and small towns, as well as urbanization development strategies of differentiation according to different classes and regions. MODFLOW is a groundwater modeling program. It can be compiled and remedied according to the practical applications. Because of its structure and fixed data format, MODFLOW can be integrated with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology for water resource management. The North China Plain (NCP), which is the politic, economic and cultural center of China, is facing with water resources shortage and water pollution. Groundwater is the main water resource for industrial, agricultural and domestic usage. It is necessary to evaluate the groundwater resources of the NCP as an entire aquifer system. With the development of computer and internet information technology it is also necessary to integrate the groundwater model with the GIS technology. Because the geological and hydrogeological data in the NCP was mainly in MAPGIS format, the powerful function of GIS of disposing of and analyzing spatial data and computer languages such as Visual C and Visual Basic were used to define the relationship between the original data and model data. After analyzing the geological and hydrogeological conditions of the NCP, the groundwater flow numerical simulation modeling was constructed with MODFLOW. On the basis of GIS, a dynamic evaluation system for groundwater resources under the internet circumstance was completed. During the process of constructing the groundwater model, a water budget was analyzed, which showed a negative budget in the NCP. The simulation period was from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2003. During this period, the total recharge of the groundwater system was 49,374 × 106 m3 and the total discharge was 56,530 × 106 m3 the budget deficit was −7,156 × 106 m3. In this integrated system, the original data including graphs and attribution data could be stored in the database. When the process of evaluating and predicting groundwater flow was started, these data were transformed into files that the core program of MODFLOW could read.
