Parallel evolution usually occurs among related species with similar morphological characters in adaptation to particular environments. Four wild almond species (Prunus) sharing the character of dry mesocarp splitting are distributed in China, most of which occur in arid Northwestern China. In the present study, we aimed to clarify the phylogenetic relationship, evolutionary history, and environmental adaptation of these wild almond species based on genome-wide SNP data and chloroplast genomes. Chloroplast phylogeny showed P. pedunculata and P. tenella were clustered with wild cherry species (Prunus), while P. mongolica and P. tangutica were clustered with wild peach species (Prunus). Genomic phylogeny suggested P. tenella formed an independent clade. An ABC-RF approach showed P. pedunculata was merged with P. tenella and, then, diverged from the ancestor of P. mongolica and P. tangutica. P. tenella was split from other wild almond species at ca. 7.81 to 17.77 Ma. Genetic environment association analysis showed precipitation variables contributed the most to genetic variations between P. mongolica from an arid environment and P. tangutica from a humid environment. Finally, a total of 29 adaptive loci were successfully annotated, which were related to physiological processes in response to abiotic stresses. Inconsistent genomic and chloroplast phylogenetic positions of P. tenella suggested this species could have originated from historical hybridization among different clades of Prunus. By solving the problems such as the shortage of drainage power in inland rivers and the difficulty of construction land, the integrated gate pump with compact structure and small floor area has received much attention. Among them, the integrated gate pump with larger diameter has a short application time and few examples in China. This paper takes the Salt River Pump Gate Project as the background, uses the three-dimensional parametric calculation model, carries on the design optimization analysis of the door blade thickness, the plate thickness and other parameters, and the reinforcement analysis of the weak parts of the wall pipe and web. At the same time, the key problems such as vibration and anticorrosion of the gate pump are analyzed and demonstrated. The results show that the thickness of the door blade should not increase too much, and the panel and web structure with large separation should be properly strengthened at the same time to control the resonance frequency domain. When the ratio of gate width to height is less than 0.6 and the ratio of the pump outer diameter to gate width is close to 0.5, the plate thickness combination in the range of 12-16 mm should be used. Transverse, longitudinal and diagonal ribs should be considered at the same time for wall pipe reinforcement. Through a dynamic simulation analysis, the design of Salt River Pump Gate can avoid the resonance of the integrated pump gate, and has a certain safety margin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy may exhibit cognitive impairment. • Cognitive impairment in boys with DMD rises with increasing brain dystrophin loss. • Boys with DMD may show improved cognition after glucocorticoids treatment. Our study aimed to explore the intellectual function of patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in China and examine the correlation of full-scale intelligence quotient (FSIQ) with age, mutation locations, mutation class, and dystrophin isoforms. We assessed 64 boys with DMD using The Wechsler Intelligence Scales for Children-Fourth Edition and compared intellectual function at enrollment and follow-up in the 15 patients who completed the follow-up. Our findings confirm that boys with DMD may exhibit cognitive impairment, with the Working Memory Index being the most impaired. There was no significant correlation between FSIQ and age; however, a positive correlation was noted between age and the Verbal Comprehension Index. FSIQ was not associated with mutation class, the number of affected mutated exons, or mutation locations. However, there was a significant difference in FSIQ between the groups with intact and deficient Dp140. Fifteen participants adhered to glucocorticoid therapy throughout the two-year follow-up period, and eleven of them showed an improvement in FSIQ compared to their initial scores, with improvement ranging from 2 to 20. In conclusion, patients with the cumulative loss of isoforms in the brain are at a higher risk of cognitive deficits and may require early cognitive interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: To evaluate the ability of carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), risk of ovarian malignancy algorithm (ROMA), and Copenhagen Index (CPH‐I) to identify primary ovarian cancer (OC) from borderline and benign ovarian tumors (OTs) and explore ideal cutoff points. Methods: A total of 684 OTs containing 276 OC patients, 116 ovarian borderline OTs and 292 benign OTs patients who underwent surgery in our hospital were included. We retrospectively searched the results of CA125 and HE4 before patients' surgery from the hospital's electronic medical records system. ROMA and CPH‐I were calculated according to their menopausal status and age, respectively. Diagnostic performance of these four were assessed by drawing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: CA125, HE4, ROMA, and CPH‐I were all significantly higher in OC women compared with borderline OTs (p < 0.001), followed by benign OTs (p < 0.001). Area under the curves (AUCs) for distinguishing OC were 0.850 (0.818–0.882), 0.891 (0.865–0.916), 0.910 (0.888–0.933) and 0.906 (0.882–0.930), respectively, and the corresponding ideal cutoff values for CA125, HE4, ROMA, and CPH‐I were 132.5, 68.6, 23.8, and 6.4, respectively. The difference between ROMA and CPH‐I was not significant (p = 0.97), but both were higher than CA125 and HE4 (p < 0.05). HE4 showed a significantly higher AUC than CA125 (p < 0.05). For postmenopausal women, CA125 performed equivalently to ROMA (p = 0.73) and CPH‐I (p = 0.91). Conclusions: In identifying patients with OC, ROMA and CPH‐I outperformed single tumor marker. All this makes it possible to have academic accomplishments as its object of narration. The exploration of the novel's theoretical and practical implications in making the theme of academic accomplishments meet the generic requirements of novels is indispensible to an objective evaluation of its contributions to the creation of novels, thus serving as a good channel for viewing the stylistic changes in novels of the Jiaqing and Daoguang Reigns in the Qing Dynasty and its influence on the historical development of Chinese novels. This study aimed to investigate the impact of different nitrogen forms on soil physicochemical properties and microbial community structure in perennial alpine cultivated grasslands, in order to provide scientific basis for developing nitrogen addition strategies for perennial alpine cultivated grasslands. In June 2022, a 4-year-old Qinghai grassland mixed with Poa pratensis Qinghai and Festuca sinensis Qinghai was established at the Bakatai Farm in Gonghe County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. The study was conducted without fertilization as a control (CK), and three different forms of nitrogen treatments were set up, namely, U:urea (amide nitrogen), A:ammonium sulfate (ammonium nitrogen), and N:calcium nitrate (nitrate nitrogen); the nitrogen application rate for each treatment was 67.5 kg·(hm 2 ·a) -1 , and the composition and diversity of soil nutrients and microbial communities under different treatments were analyzed. The results showed that the input of exogenous ammonium nitrogen significantly increased NH 4 + -N content, AP content, and EC; amide nitrogen input significantly increased SOC content and TN content; and nitrate nitrogen input significantly increased NO 3 - -N content, AN content, and TC content. Exogenous nitrogen input changed the structure of soil bacterial and fungal communities, as well as the relative abundance of dominant phyla and genera, but it did not significantly affect the alpha diversity of bacterial and fungal communities. Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) showed that different forms of nitrogen addition had a significant impact on the Beta diversity of bacterial communities, whereas the impact on fungal communities was not significant. Redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that nitrogen addition mainly changed the composition and structure of microbial communities through soil ammonium nitrogen. Overall, ammonium nitrogen fertilizer should be given priority in the soil remediation process of perennial cultivated grasslands in the Qinghai Tibet Plateau.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of anisometropia and associated parameters among school-aged children in Nantong, China., Methods: This school-based, cross-sectional study examined students from primary schools, junior high schools, and senior high schools in an urban area of Nantong, China. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the specific correlations between anisometropia and related parameters. Non-cycloplegic autorefraction was assessed for each student. Anisometropia was defined as the spherical equivalent refraction (SE) difference ≥ 1.0 D between eyes., Results: A total of 9,501 participants were validated for analyses, of which 53.2% ( n  = 5,054) were male, and 46.8% ( n  = 4,447) were female. The mean of age was 13.32 ± 3.49 years, ranging from 7-19 years. The overall prevalence of anisometropia was 25.6%. Factors such as myopia, scoliosis screening positive, hyperopia, female sex, older age, and higher weight had a significantly higher risk of anisometropia ( p  < 0.05)., Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of anisometropia in school-age children. Some physical examination parameters are closely related to children's anisometropia, especially myopia and scoliosis. Preventing myopia and controlling its progression may be the most important ways to reduce the prevalence of anisometropia. Foliar stoichiometry provides information on the biotic and abiotic changes of environment. We examined the stoichiometric characteristics of plant leaves at different altitudes to understand how plants adapt to environmental changes. Foliar stoichiometry of Leontopodium leontopodioides at various altitudes (2400, 2600, 2800, 3000 and 3200 m) were analyzed in the Qilian Mountains of China. Across the altitude gradient, mean value of leaf carbon content (LC), nitrogen content (LN), and phosphorous content (LP) of L. leontopodioides was 401.27, 23.99 and 1.22 g·kg -1 , respectively. The mean value of LC:LN, LC:LP and LN:LP was 16.8, 352.5 and 20.7, respectively. LC, LC:LN, LC:LP and LN:LP initially increased with increases in altitude, rea-ching the maximum at 2600 m, then decreased, reaching the minimum at 3000 m, and finally increased again. LP exhibited the opposite trend. LN demonstrated an initial decrease with altitude, reaching the minimum at 2800 m, followed by an increase at higher altitudes. LC did not correlate with LN, but was significantly negatively correlated with LP. LN was significantly positively correlated with LP. There was no correlation between LN and any other stoichiometry ratios. LP showed a significantly negative correlation with other stoichiometry ratios. LC:LN, LC:LP, and LN:LP were positively correlated with each other. Both soil total nitrogen and total phosphorus affected LC and LN, whereas LP was significantly negatively correlated with soil total phosphorus. The results suggested that the growth of L. leontopodioides in the study region was mainly limited by P availability.

As important topographic factors, slope aspect and gradient affect plant growth and leaf functional traits by regulating the combination of water and heat. Exploring the response of leaf functional traits to topographic factors is helpful for understanding plant adaptation strategies. We investigated the effects of sunny slope (including half sunny slope) and shady slope (including half shady slope) and three slope gradient (15°-20°, 21°-25°, and 26°-30°) on the leaf functional traits of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.), the main afforestation tree species on the Loess Plateau. The results showed that: 1) Slope aspect and gradient exerted significant effects on all functional traits. Except leaf water content (LWC), other leaf functional traits were not affected by the interaction of slope aspect and gradient. 2) The leaf area (LA) under the sunny slope was equivalent to that under the shady slope. Leaf dry matter content (LDMC) and LWC (0.27 g·g -1 and 67.0%, respectively) were significantly higher under the shady slope than under the sunny slope (0.24 g·g -1 and 59.6%, respectively), while specific leaf area (SLA) (163.05 cm 2 ·g -1 ) was significantly lower under the former than under the latter (183.72 cm 2 ·g -1 ). 3) At different slope gradients, SLA and LA reached a maximum value at 15°-20° (184.04 cm 2 ·g -1 ) and 26°-30° (21.14 cm 2 ), respectively. 4) Except no difference in soil water content (Θ) between 15°-20° and 26°-30°, it differed significantly between two slope aspects and among other slope gradients. The Θ was one of the main factors causing the differences in functional traits, especially in the 0-10 cm soil layer. 5) SLA was negatively correlated with LWC and LDW and positively correlated with LA. LDW was positively correlated with LWC and negatively correlated with LA. Θ was positively correlated with LWC but not with other leaf functional traits.

Topography has major impacts on the trade-off of plant survival strategies. Exploring the differential pattern of leaf ecological stoichiometry along the elevation gradient contributes to a better understanding of plant's response to environmental changes and its ecological adaptability. We investigated leaf C, N, and P concentrations and stoichiometric ratios of Leontopodium leontopodioides at three elevations, including from 4400 m to 4700 m, from 4701 m to 5000 m, and from 5001 m to 5300 m, on the northeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in China. The results showed that the concentrations of leaf C, N, and P of L. leontopodioides were 405.36 g·kg -1 , 18.42 g·kg -1 and 0.94 g·kg -1 , respectively. Leaf C/N, C/P, and N/P were 22.67, 467.61 and 20.30, respectively. The concentrations of leaf N and P of L. leontopodioides consistently increased with the increases of elevation. The coefficient of variations for leaf C, N and P concentrations and ratios of L. leontopodioides were all less than 30%, with an order of P (30%) > C/P (29%) > C/N (18%) > N (17%) > N/P (15%) > C (3%). The growth of L. leontopodioides on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau was mainly limited by P availability.
