Background: Dietary assessment methods have limitations in capturing real-time eating behaviour accurately. Equipped with automated dietary-data-collection capabilities, the "intelligent ordering system" (IOS) has potential applicability in obtaining long-term consecutive, relatively detailed on-campus dietary records among university students with little resource consumption. We investigated (1) the relative validity of IOS-derived nutrient/food intakes compared to those from the 7-day food diary (7DFD); (2) whether including a supplemental food frequency questionnaire (SFFQ) improves IOS accuracy; and (3) sex differences in IOS dietary intake estimation. Methods: Medical students (n = 221; age = 22.2 ± 2.4 years; 38.5% male and 61.5% female) completed the 7DFD and SFFQ. During the consecutive 7-day survey period, students weighed and photographed each meal before and after consumption. Then, students reviewed their 3-month diet and completed the SFFQ, which includes eight underprovided school-canteen food items (e.g., dairy, fruits, nuts). Meanwhile, 9385 IOS dietary data entries were collected. We used Spearman coefficients and linear regression models to estimate the associations among the different dietary intake assessment methods. Individual- and group-level agreement was assessed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, cross-classification, and Bland‒Altman analysis. Results: IOS mean daily energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrate intake estimations were significantly lower (-15-20%) than those of the 7DFD. The correlation coefficients varied from 0.52 (for added sugar) to 0.88 (for soybeans and nuts), with fruits (0.37) and dairy products (0.29) showing weaker correlations. Sixty-two (milk and dairy products) to 97% (soybeans and nuts) of participants were classified into the same or adjacent dietary intake distribution quartile using both methods. The energy and macronutrient intake differences between the IOS + SFFQ and 7DFD groups decreased substantially. The separate fruit intake measurements from each assessment method did not significantly differ from each other (p > 0.05). IOS and IOS + SFFQ regression models generally yielded higher R2 values for males than for females. Conclusion: Despite estimation differences, the IOS can be reliable for medical student dietary habit assessment. The SFFQ is useful for measuring consumption of foods that are typically unavailable in school cafeterias, improving the overall dietary evaluation accuracy. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to survey the prevalence of C-shaped root canal system in mandibular first premolar in Chinese population by reading Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and to analyze its anatomical characteristics by CBCT and Micro–computed tomography (Micro-CT). Methods and materials: The prevalence and the morphologic features of C-shaped root canal system were evaluated by observing CBCT images of 760 patients (1520 mandibular first premolars). 66 mandibular first premolars with C-shaped root canal system were scanned by Micro-CT. The morphologic features including radicular groove, C-shaped root canal categories in the cross-sections and in the 3D models, accessory and connecting canals, apical foramina and accessory foramina, were analyzed using image software. Results: C-shaped root canal system was identified in 16.9% of mandibular first premolars. The minimum mesial wall thickness most commonly occurred at the lingual site (69.7%). Regarding to the cross-sectional classification, the maximum was C2 (41.5%). In the 3D classification, the most common was S (34.8%). Accessory canals were observed in 36.4% of the samples and occurred mostly in the middle and apical regions. 42.4% samples had 1–3 variable connecting canals, and 40.9% samples had only one apical foramen. Conclusions: The incidence of C-shaped root canal system in mandibular first premolars was 16.9% in the Chinese population. The anatomy was very complex and variable, mostly distributed in the middle and apical regions of the root canal. The mesial wall of C-shaped canal was extremely thin on the lingual side. Dust storms have large impacts on air quality and meteorological elements; however, their relationships with atmospheric greenhouse gases (e.g., CO2) and radiation components remain uncertain. In this study, the co-variation of dust and CO2 concentrations and its possible influencing mechanism are examined using observations at the Shangdianzi (SDZ) regional Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) station along with simulations of the Vegetation Photosynthesis and Respiration Model coupled with the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF-VPRM), during two dust storm events on 15 and 28 March 2021. During these events, hourly CO2 concentrations decreased by 40–50 ppm at SDZ while dust concentrations increased to 1240.6 and 712.4 µg m−3. The elevated dust increased diffusive shortwave irradiance by 50–60% and decreased direct shortwave irradiance by ~60% along with clouds. The dust events were attributed to the passages of two cold front systems over northern China. At SDZ, during the frontal passages, wind speed increased by 3–6 m s−1, and relative humidity decreased by 50–60%. The CO2 variations associated with the frontal systems were captured by the WRF-VPRM despite the overestimated surface CO2 level at SDZ. Biogenic CO2 flux plays an indistinctive role in the large CO2 variation at SDZ, as it is weak during the non-growing season. The cold fronts pushed polluted air southeastward over the North China Plain and replaced it with low-CO2 air from Northwest China, leading to the decline in CO2. These findings demonstrate that mesoscale synoptic conditions significantly affect the regional transport and dispersion of CO2, which can influence the prediction of terrestrial carbon balance on a regional scale. High-throughput sequencing was used to visualize microbial biocoenoses on different metallic surfaces and rust layers of highly corroded steels after immersion in coastal marine water for 30 months at Sanya, China. Distinct microbial community compositions were observed on these metallic surfaces. The dominant genus was the copper-tolerant, acid-producing Lactobacillus on copper alloys, the common aerobic surface colonizers Bacillus and Ruegeria on aluminum alloys, and aerobic biofilm-forming Pseudomonas on carbon steel. Most of these are copiotrophic microbes compared to planktonic microbes, which are oligotrophic. Additionally, sulfate-reducing prokaryotes (SRP) were detected in the rust layer, but the dominant genera changed from the outer layer to the inner part. The dominant genera detected in the outer, middle and inner rusts layers were Desulfotomaculum, Desulfonatronum (obligate anaerobe) and Desulfovibiro (electroactive), respectively. Household consumption has great potential to reduce CO 2 emissions from the demand side which is an important way to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. However, the shrinking household size will have a significant impact on household carbon emissions. In this paper, we have investigated the impacts of the decrease in Chinese household size on the direct and indirect household carbon emissions by using the input-output model and the bidirectional fixed-effect model, based on China's Urban Household Income and Expenditure Survey dataset. Results have shown that household size has a significant negative effect on household carbon emissions per capita, and such a negative effect on indirect carbon emissions is much greater than that on direct carbon emissions in China. Reducing the average household size by one has led to an increase of 0.128 t of the direct household carbon emissions per capita and 1.344 t of indirect household carbon emissions per capita, respectively. We also projected the potential change of household carbon emissions by 2030 under scenarios of increasing total population and shrinking household size and found that there may generate a 15.3%–18.8% growth in household carbon emissions compared to that in 2012, with other demographic characteristics unchanged. Biogenic methane in shallow shale reservoirs has been proven to contribute to economic recovery of unconventional natural gas. However, whether the microbes inhabiting the deeper shale reservoirs at an average depth of 4.1 km and even co-occurring with sulfate-reducing prokaryote (SRP) have the potential to produce biomethane is still unclear. Stable isotopic technique with culture-dependent and independent approaches were employed to investigate the microbial and functional diversity related to methanogenic pathways and explore the relationship between SRP and methanogens in the shales in the Sichuan Basin, China. Although stable isotopic ratios of the gas implied a thermogenic origin for methane, the decreased trend of stable carbon and hydrogen isotope value provided clues for increasing microbial activities along with sustained gas production in these wells. These deep shale-gas wells harbored high abundance of methanogens (17.2%) with ability of utilizing various substrates for methanogenesis, which co-existed with SRP (6.7%). All genes required for performing methylotrophic, hydrogenotrophic and acetoclastic methanogenesis were present. Methane production experiments of produced water, with and without additional available substrates for methanogens, further confirmed biomethane production via all three methanogenic pathways. Statistical analysis and incubation tests revealed the partnership between SRP and methanogens under in situ sulfate concentration (~ 9 mg/L). These results suggest that biomethane could be produced with more flexible stimulation strategies for unconventional natural gas recovery even at the higher depths and at the presence of SRP. Biomass, as a renewable and clean energy resource, plays a vital role in energy security and greenhouse gas reduction across the world. This paper reports on our newly established technology: a downdraft fixed-bed biomass gasification system using nut shells (mainly apricot kernel shells) for electricity generation, heating and partially activated carbon production at the same time. Particularly, the key features of the gasification reactor will be presented in detail. In the commercial plant (3 MW scale) located in Hebei province, China, the typical energy conversion from apricot kernel shell gasification is as follows: 47% syngas, 44% char (partially activated carbon), 5% hot water, and 4% energy loss. The main gasification temperature is 600–800 °C, while the activation zone is 850–900 °C. The commercial system has currently been in operation for 4 years. The production of nitrogen fertilizer in China generates a substantial quantity of gasifier coke (GFC) as an industrial by-product, posing challenges for its effective recycling. In this study, a combination of co-hydrothermal carbonization (co-HTC) and pelleting technology was employed to convert pomelo peel (PP) and GFC into fuel pellets. Notably, these two feedstocks, characterized by significantly distinct physicochemical properties, exhibited beneficial complementarity, mitigating the limitations of using a single feedstock for fuel preparation. The severe caking and non-uniformity of PP hydrochar resulted in significant flaws in the pellets prepared through direct blending with GFC. The co-HTC technology significantly alleviated the poor processability of PP hydrochar and the low energy density of PP hydrochar pellet while greatly improving the flammability of GFC and the mechanical strength of GFC pellet. The results demonstrated a significant enhancement in uniformity of hydrochar after co-HTC, leading to a reduction in compression energy consumption to 6.16–7.62 J/g and an increase in pellet energy density to 30.60–35.08 GJ/m3. The ignition temperature and the activation energy of GFC were significantly reduced. The co-HTC technology effectively addressed the challenge of GFC pelletizing by achieving fuel pellets with a compressive strength of 11.89 MPa and a drop resistance of 99.8 %. Interestingly, the co-HTC process showed significant synergistic effects, increasing the energy yield of PP hydrochar to 73.38–92.9 % and effectively reducing the ash and sulfur content in GFC to 4.99–11.92 % and 0.35–0.55 %, respectively. The most pronounced synergistic effects were observed when blending PP and GFC in a 5:5 ratio. The complementarity of feedstocks and the synergistic effects of co-HTC converge to facilitate the conversion of biomass and industrial waste into high-performance fuel pellets. Hydroa vacciniforme lymphoproliferative disorder (HVLPD) is a rare disease related to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), mainly in children, and is an EBV-associated cutaneous T and natural killer (NK) cell lymphoproliferative disorder. The disorder in some patients may progress to EBV-associated systemic T or NK-cell lymphoma. To summarize the characteristics of HVLPD in Chinese paediatric patients and to examine the risk factors indicating poor prognosis. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with HVLPD from the Department of Dermatology, Beijing Children's Hospital. Based on diagnosis, medical history, examination results, and immunophenotype, we analysed HVLPD in 42 paediatric cases in order to examine the clinical features, prognoses, and risk factors. Forty-two paediatric patients were enrolled, with a median onset age of five years. All patients presented with papulovesicular lesions, and 32 systemic HVLPD (sHVLPD) patients had systemic symptoms, including fever, lymphadenopathy, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, and liver dysfunction. Of the sHVLPD cases, 13 also had severe mosquito bite allergy (SMBA). Twenty-five cases were T-type, and nine were CD56+-dominant type. Follow-up data showed that 12 patients had complete remission, and three patients died. SMBA is a risk factor for disease progression in patients with HVLPD, and the pathological CD56+-dominant phenotype is associated with poor prognosis.

Background: Previous studies have shown an association between increased arterial stiffness and reduced bone mineral density. However, the relationship between arterial stiffness and fragility fracture remains unclear. In this study, we explored the impact of arterial stiffness on the risk of new-onset fragility fracture., Methods: The study included 53,107 participants in the Kailuan Study in whom brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) measurements were obtained between 2010 and 2021. All participants were free of fragility fractures at baseline. A Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95 % confidence interval (CI) for incident fragility fracture on the baseline baPWV groups: <1400 cm/s (reference), 1400 ≤ baPWV < 1800 cm/s, and ≥1800 cm/s., Results: In total, 327 incident fragility fractures were recorded during an average follow-up of 4.99 ± 3.02 years. After adjustment for potential confounders, the HR for the risk of new-onset fragility fracture was 1.66 (95 % CI 1.14-2.42) for the arterial stiffness group in comparison with the normal baPWV group. The risk of fragility fracture was higher in men (HR 1.64, 95 % CI 1.05-2.57). The effectiveness of government environmental policies is pivotal to environmental quality and provides the reference for further policy design. This paper estimates the effect of comprehensive demonstration of fiscal policy for ECER (Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction) on pollution emissions in Chinese cities with the sample period from 2003 to 2016, which is an important practice for policy integration. We find that this policy reduces the industrial SO 2 (sulfur dioxide) emission by 23.8% on average and the industrial wastewater emission by 17.5% on average. This policy, implemented by Chinese government, has effectively achieved its target for emission reduction. A series of robustness checks are also conducted to verify the baseline results. Mechanism analysis indicates that this policy has the effect by the change in the industry structure and the enhancement of fiscal capacity, especially the capacity of fiscal revenue. Some policy recommendations, such as laying emphasis on the policy integration, integrating the financial resources of governments and expanding the demonstration effect, are proposed in order to facilitate green development in Chinese cities.
