Purpose: The key to successful textbook compilation lies in incorporating children's experiences and facilitating their growth. This study examines the process of textbook compilation. Design/Approach/Methods: This study criticizes the traditional compiling approach of excessive lecturing and reasoning. It further elaborates the theoretical and institutional background for the traditional approach. Involving retrospective narratives, researchers reflect on how new textbook compilation tends to connect with children's experience. Findings: Researchers have explored several approaches to organizing and reconstructing children's experiences in preparing textbooks, including using "an experience" to awaken children's experiences, using the expression of experience to reconstruct children's experience, and transforming children's "experience" ("jing yan," [Chinese character omitted]) into lived experiences ("ti yan," [Chinese character omitted]). Another approach involves facilitating the connection and interaction between children's experiences and those of others in order to bridge personal experience and sociocultural values. However, this can only be achieved by ensuring that textbooks reflect and are part of children's lives. The successful incorporation of children's experiences into textbook compilation lays the foundation for children to identify with textbooks and internalize textbook values. Originality/Value: Bridging the gap between children's experience and textbooks constitutes the primary theoretical and practical issue in textbook compilation and education.

Animal vocal behaviour represents a certain meaning, which is the explicit expression of animal emotions, needs and communication. Different from human language, animal vocal behaviour is very abstract, and the learning material of animal vocal behaviour is also more difficult to obtain. It is hard for college students to recognize vocal behaviours of animals accurately. Using virtual reality (VR) to describe them is an innovation in outdoor practice. Zoology teaching can be further enhanced by VR online application. However, current online VR application is mostly restricted as visualization tools, and the application in virtual sound environment is rarely supported. An online VR demonstrator tool was developed by integrating affordable visualization and auralization components. The tool could be published in mainstream web browsers with users' own devices. Sichuan golden monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) of Shennongjia Nature Reserve in Hubei province, China was used as the case site to create the virtual environment. A participatory evaluation was performed to test and evaluate the effect of the online VR tool. The result was analysed and discussed on the usability and potential of the VR tool in animal vocal behaviours.

Background: Previous studies have evaluated the safety and efficacy of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the mechanism underlying the effect of taVNS on PD remains to be elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of taVNS in PD patients. Methods: This crossover self-controlled study included 50 PD patients. Each patient underwent three sessions of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) under three conditions: real taVNS, sham taVNS, and no taVNS intervention. We analyzed whole-brain amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) from preprocessed fMRI data across different intervention conditions. ALFF values in altered brain regions were correlated with clinical symptoms in PD patients. Results: Forty-seven participants completed the study and were included in the final analysis. Real taVNS was associated with a widespread decrease in ALFF in the right hemisphere, including the superior parietal lobule, precentral gyrus, postcentral gyrus, middle occipital gyrus, and cuneus (voxel p < 0.001, GRF corrected). The ALFF value in the right superior parietal lobule during real taVNS was negatively correlated with the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III (r = −0.417, p = 0.004, Bonferroni corrected). Conclusion: TaVNS could immediately modulate the functional activity of brain regions involved in superior parietal lobule, precentral gyrus, postcentral gyrus, middle occipital gyrus, and cuneus. These findings offer preliminary insights into the mechanism of taVNS in treating PD and bolster confidence in its long-term therapeutic potential. Under global warming, understanding the long-term variation in different types of heatwaves is vital for China's preparedness against escalating heat stress. This study investigates dry and wet heatwave shifts in eastern China over recent decades. Spatial trend analysis displays pronounced warming in inland midlatitudes and the Yangtze River Valley, with increased humidity in coastal regions. EOF results indicate intensifying dry heatwaves in northern China, while the Yangtze River Valley sees more frequent dry heatwaves. On the other hand, Indochina and regions north of 25°N also experience intensified wet heatwaves, corresponding to regional humidity increases. Composite analysis is conducted based on different situations: strong, frequent dry or wet heatwaves. Strong dry heatwaves are influenced by anticyclonic circulations over northern China, accompanied by warming SST anomalies around the coastal midlatitudes of the western North Pacific (WNP). Frequent dry heatwaves are related to strong subsidence along with a strengthened subtropical high over the WNP. Strong and frequent wet heatwaves show an intensified Okhotsk high at higher latitudes in the lower troposphere, and a negative circumglobal teleconnection wave train pattern in the upper troposphere. Decaying El Niño SST patterns are observed in two kinds of wet heatwave and frequent dry heatwave years. Risk analysis indicates that El Niño events heighten the likelihood of these heatwaves in regions most at risk. As global warming continues, adapting and implementing mitigation strategies toward extreme heatwaves becomes crucial, especially for the aforementioned regions under significant heat stress. Purpose: This paper explores the information sharing between farmers clustered around a formal plant health information source, using six case studies of plant clinics in China and Zambia. Design/methodology/approach: A survey was carried out with 327 farmers; six plant doctors were interviewed and plant clinic records reviewed. Data were analysed using social network analysis and descriptive statistics. Findings: Clinic attendees shared plant health information with an average of 4.6 other farmers in China and 3.8 farmers in Zambia. However, the effective secondary reach of plant clinics, i.e. clinic attendees sharing information with non-attendees, was considerably lower, especially in China, where most sharing took place among clinic attendees. The Zambian plant clinics, managed by public extension services, show a more open pattern where information is also shared with non-attendees. Practical implications: Plant doctors could play a more proactive role in bridging formal and informal networks to enhance the diffusion of plant health information within farming communities. Strategies to optimize the secondary reach of plant clinics should be informed by the agro-ecological and socio-economic context, as well as the type of organization operating the service. Theoretical implications: The type of production system (degree of market orientation) and clinic's institutional setup (private vs. public sector) determine the characteristics of the social network around it. The closed, crop-specific networks in China result in high uptake of advice but limited secondary reach. The open, more crop-diverse networks in Zambia have higher secondary reach but lower uptake. Originality/value: This is the first study examining how information travels within social networks linked to plant clinics, and patterns of information sharing and use.

Polygonatum kingianum Collett & Hemsl., is one of the most important traditional Chinese medicines in China. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between herb quality and microbial-soil variables, while also examining the composition and structure of the rhizosphere microbial community in Polygonatum kingianum, the ultimate goal is to provide a scientific approach to enhancing the quality of P. kingianum. Illumina NovaSeq technology unlocks comprehensive genetic variation and biological functionality through high-throughput sequencing. And in this study it was used to analyze the rhizosphere microbial communities in the soils of five P. kingianum planting areas. Conventional techniques were used to measure the organic elements, pH, and organic matter content. The active ingredient content of P. kingianum was identified by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Colorimetry. A total of 12,715 bacterial and 5487 fungal Operational Taxonomic Units (OTU) were obtained and taxonomically categorized into 81 and 7 different phyla. Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Acidobacteriae were the dominant bacterial phyla Ascomycota and Basidiomycota were the dominat fungal phyla. The key predictors for bacterial community structure included hydrolysable nitrogen and available potassium, while for altering fungal community structure, soil organic carbon content (OCC), total nitrogen content (TNC), and total potassium content (TPOC) were the main influencing factors. Bryobacter and Candidatus Solibacter may indirectly increase the polysaccharide content of P. kingianum, and can be developed as potential Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR). This study has confirmed the differences in the soil and microorganisms of different origins of P. kingianum, and their close association with its active ingredients. Strengthening the financial capabilities of local governments is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Previous research has primarily focused on the flows of finance across countries and regions, neglecting the interaction between international investment and local fiscal response. To address this gap, this study first developed the typology of local environmental spending, and then linked it to a panel dataset composed of 4,439 CDM projects in China and expenditure at the provincial level from 2005 to 2017 to explore the role of international green finance. By categorizing local environmental spending into capital spending and recurrent spending, the findings reveal that international green investment primarily influences the former type, with regional and project type variations. With explanation and discussions of the results, this study contributes to sustainability research by investigating the global-local nexus through a fiscal lens and provides policy insights for local capacity building and global financial system design. Background and Aims Emerging evidence has raised an obesity paradox in observational studies of body mass index (BMI) and health among the oldest-old (aged ≥80 years), as an inverse relationship of BMI with mortality was reported. This study was to investigate the causal associations of BMI, waist circumference (WC), or both with mortality in the oldest-old people in China. Methods A total of 5306 community-based oldest-old (mean age 90.6 years) were enrolled in the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) between 1998 and 2018. Genetic risk scores were constructed from 58 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with BMI and 49 SNPs associated with WC to subsequently derive causal estimates for Mendelian randomization (MR) models. One-sample linear MR along with non-linear MR analyses were performed to explore the associations of genetically predicted BMI, WC, and their joint effect with all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, and non-CVD mortality. Results During 24 337 person-years of follow-up, 3766 deaths were documented. In observational analyses, higher BMI and WC were both associated with decreased mortality risk [hazard ratio (HR) 0.963, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.955–0.971 for a 1-kg/m2 increment of BMI and HR 0.971 (95% CI 0.950–0.993) for each 5 cm increase of WC]. Linear MR models indicated that each 1 kg/m2 increase in genetically predicted BMI was monotonically associated with a 4.5% decrease in all-cause mortality risk [HR 0.955 (95% CI 0.928–0.983)]. Non-linear curves showed the lowest mortality risk at the BMI of around 28.0 kg/m2, suggesting that optimal BMI for the oldest-old may be around overweight or mild obesity. Positive monotonic causal associations were observed between WC and all-cause mortality [HR 1.108 (95% CI 1.036–1.185) per 5 cm increase], CVD mortality [HR 1.193 (95% CI 1.064–1.337)], and non-CVD mortality [HR 1.110 (95% CI 1.016–1.212)]. The joint effect analyses indicated that the lowest risk was observed among those with higher BMI and lower WC. Conclusions Among the oldest-old, opposite causal associations of BMI and WC with mortality were observed, and a body figure with higher BMI and lower WC could substantially decrease the mortality risk. Guidelines for the weight management should be cautiously designed and implemented among the oldest-old people, considering distinct roles of BMI and WC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Veronica anagallis-aquatica L. and Veronica undulata Wall. are widely used ethnomedicinal plants in China. The two species have different clinical efficacies, while their extremely similar morphology and unclear interspecific relationship make it difficult to accurately identify them, leading to increased instances of mixed usage. This article reports on the complete chloroplast genomes sequence of these two species and their related Veronica species to conduct a comparative genomics analysis and phylogenetic construction. The results showed that the chloroplast (cp) genomes of Veronica exhibited typical circular quadripartite structures, with total lengths of 149,386 to 152,319 base pairs (bp), and GC content of 37.9 to 38.1%, and the number of genes was between 129–134. The total number of simple sequence repeats (SSRs) in V. anagallis-aquatica and V. undulata is 37 and 36, while V. arvensis had the highest total number of 56, predominantly characterized by A/T single bases. The vast majority of long repeat sequence types are forward repeats and palindromic repeats. Selective Ka/Ks values showed that three genes were under positive selection. Sequence differences often occur in the non-coding regions of the large single-copy region (LSC) and small single-copy region (SSC), with the lowest sequence variation in the inverted repeat regions (IR). Seven highly variable regions (trnT-GGU-psbD, rps8-rpl16, trnQ-UUG, trnN-GUU-ndhF, petL, ycf3, and ycf1) were detected, which may be potential molecular markers for identifying V. anagallis-aquatica and V. undulata. The phylogenetic tree indicates that there is a close genetic relationship between the genera Veronica and Neopicrorhiza, and V. anagallis-aquatica and V. undulata are sister groups. The molecular clock analysis results indicate that the divergence time of Veronica may occur at ∼ 9.09 Ma, and the divergence time of these two species occurs at ∼ 0.48 Ma. It is speculated that climate change may be the cause of Veronica species diversity and promote the radiation of the genus. The chloroplast genome data of nine Veronica specie provides important insights into the characteristics and evolution of the chloroplast genome of this genus, as well as the phylogenetic relationships of the genus Veronica. Copy number variations (CNVs) critically influence individual genetic diversity and phenotypic traits. In this study, we employed whole-genome resequencing technology to conduct an in-depth analysis of 50 pigs from five local swine populations [Rongchang pig (RC), Wuzhishan pig (WZS), Tibetan pig (T), Yorkshire (YL) and Landrace (LR)], aiming to assess their genetic potential and explore their prospects in the field of animal model applications. We identified a total of 96,466 CNVs, which were subsequently integrated into 7112 non-redundant CNVRs, encompassing 1.3% of the swine genome. Functional enrichment analysis of the genes within these CNVRs revealed significant associations with sensory perception, energy metabolism, and neural-related pathways. Further selective scan analyses of the local pig breeds RC, T, WZS, along with YL and LR, uncovered that for the RC variety, the genes PLA2G10 and ABCA8 were found to be closely related to fat metabolism and cardiovascular health. In the T breed, the genes NCF2 and CSGALNACT1 were associated with immune response and connective tissue characteristics. As for the WZS breed, the genes PLIN4 and CPB2 were primarily linked to fat storage and anti-inflammatory responses. In summary, this research underscores the pivotal role of CNVs in fostering the diversity and adaptive evolution of pig breeds while also offering valuable insights for further exploration of the advantageous genetic traits inherent to China's local pig breeds. This facilitates the creation of experimental animal models tailored to the specific characteristics of these breeds, contributing to the advancement of livestock and biomedical research. The rehabilitation of diverse and three‐dimensional forest vegetation patterns is crucial for preventing forest degradation and improving soil fertility. However, the relationship between soil microbial community and soil fertility was not clear. To accurately assess the capability of vegetation restoration measures on the real impact on degraded soil ecosystems. We selected three vegetation rehabilitation models of degraded Pinus massoniana forests in typical soil erosion areas in China as the research objects, with untreated bare land as the control. All three vegetation construction patterns increased the abundance and diversity of soil bacteria and fungi, thereby enhancing the stability of the soil ecosystem. Additionally, the vegetation rehabilitation models also altered the community structure of soil bacteria and fungi in the degraded P. massoniana forests. The pH and soil fertility index (IFI) were the main factors leading to variations in the community structure of the soil bacteria and fungi. Among them, the grass‐planting model showed a significantly greater improvement in the soil fertility of degraded P. massoniana forests than the shrub‐planting and arbor‐planting models. Furthermore, Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, and Glomeromycota exhibited the most significant response to IFI, indicating their potential as indicator microorganisms for soil fertility changes. The improvement in soil fertility in degraded P. massoniana forests was influenced primarily by the increase in urease activity (S‐UE) according to the vegetation rehabilitation models (84.20%, p = 0.000). In conclusion, the grass‐planting system effectively improved the soil ecosystem quality of degraded P. massoniana forests in southern erosion‐prone areas of China and was suitable for further application. Objective To screen the risk factors of hydrocephalus after decompressive craniectomy in patients with cerebral hernia after traumatic brain injury (TBI), and construct a Bayesian network model based on the risk factors. Methods A total of 77 patients with cerebral hernia after TBI who underwent decompressive craniotomy in Nanjing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Southeast University from March 2020 to January 2022 were included. They were divided into hydrocephalus group (n = 25) and non - hydrocephalus group (n = 52) according to whether hydrocephalus was complicated after surgery. The risk factors of hydrocephalus after decompressive craniectomy in patients with cerebral hernia after TBI were analyzed by univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analyses. The Bayesian network model was constructed based on the risk factors, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve were drawn and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test was conducted. Results In hydrocephalus group, the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score at admission (t = 2.178, P = 0.032), the ratio of cerebrospinal fluid replacement after lumbar puncture (χ² = 8.675, P = 0.003), and the level of β2 -microglobulin after operation (t = 11.146, P = 0.000) were lower than those in non-hydrocephalus group, while subarachnoid hemorrhage (χ² = 5.901, P = 0.015), bilateral operation (χ² = 6.441, P = 0.011), the ratio of dural unstitched during operation (χ² = 9.759, P = 0.002), postoperative intraventricular hemorrhage (χ² = 8.938, P = 0.003), postoperative midline displacement > 10 mm (χ² = 7.589, P = 0.006), and intracranial infection (χ² = 4.519, P = 0.034), as well as postoperative coma time (t = 2.709, P = 0.008) were higher than those in non-hydrocephalus group. Logistic regression analysis showed that subarachnoid hemorrhage (OR = 1.885, 95%CI: 1.432-2.240; P = 0.012), dural unstitched during operation (OR = 1.468, 95%CI: 1.215-1.930; P = 0.006), long postoperative coma time (OR = 1.574, 95%CI: 1.358-1.926; P = 0.007), postoperative intraventricular hemorrhage (OR = 1.550, 95%CI: 1.254-1.768; P = 0.010), the level of β2- microglobulin increased after operation (OR = 1.622, 95%CI: 1.165-1.840; P = 0.004) were risk factors for hydrocephalus after decompressive craniectomy in patients with cerebral hernia after TBI. Based on these 5 factors, the Bayesian network model was constructed, and the area under ROC curve was 0.886 (95%CI: 0.823-0.925, P = 0.000). The calibration curve showed that there was a good consistency between the predicted probability and the actual probability, while the Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test showed no significant difference (χ² = 8.760, P = 0.232), which indicated that the model had good discrimination, calibration and accuracy. Conclusions Subarachnoid hemorrhage, dural unstitched during operation, long postoperative coma time, postoperative intra ventricular hemorrhage, and elevated β2 - microglobulin level are the risk factors for hydrocephalus after decompressive craniectomy in patients with cerebral hernia after TBI. Background: Understanding how medical students respond to financial and non-financial incentives is crucial for recruiting health workers and attracting health talents in medical education. However, both incentives are integrated in working practice, and existing theoretical studies have suggested that various income levels may influence the substitution effect of both incentives, while the empirical evidence is lacking. Furthermore, little attention has been paid to the intrinsic motivation. This study aimed to explore the substitution effect of extrinsic incentives at different income levels, also taking intrinsic altruism into account. Methods: We used the behavioral data from Zhang et al.'s experiments, which involved discrete choice experiments (DCEs) to assess the job preferences of medical students from six teaching hospitals in Beijing, China. The incentive factors included monthly income, work location, work environment, training and career development opportunities, work load, and professional recognition. Additionally, a lab-like experiment in the medical decision-making context was conducted to quantify altruism based on utility function. Furthermore, we separated the choice sets based on the actual income and distinguished the medical students on altruism. The willingness to pay (WTP) was used to estimate the substitution effect of incentives through conditional logit model. Results: There was a significant substitution effect between non-financial and financial incentives. As income increased, non-financial incentives such as an excellent work environment, and sufficient career development became relatively more important. The impact of the increase in income on the substitution effect was more pronounced among individuals with higher altruism. Concerning the non-financial incentive work environment, in contrast to the growth of 546 CNY (84 USD) observed in the low-altruism group, the high-altruism group experienced a growth of 1040 CNY (160 USD) in the substitution effect. Conclusions: The increase in the income level exerted an influence on the substitution effect of non-financial incentives and financial incentives, especially in high-altruism medical students. Policymakers should attach importance to a favorable environment and promising career prospects on the basis of ensuring a higher income level. Medical school administrations should focus on promoting altruistic values in medical education, enhancing talent incentives and teaching strategies to encourage medical students to devote themselves to the medical professions. From 1956 to 2016, Hai River Basin suffered the most severe surface water resource attenuation among the 10 first-class river basins in China. Based on the surface water circulation process, and evolving characteristics of precipitation and underlying surface in Hai River Basin, this study attributed the causes of surface water resource attenuation to six primary impact factors, analyzed each factor's quantitative contribution, and revealed four patterns of surface water resource attenuation in Hai River Basin. The pattern of the dominant factor: comparing the 1980–2000 period with the 1956–1979 period, the variation of precipitation is the dominant factor of which contribution is 7 billion m3, accounting for 59% of total 11.7 billion m3; comparing the 2001–2016 period with the 1956–1979 period, the increasing of vegetation cover in mountainous area is the dominant factor of which contribution is 2.78 billion m3, accounting for 51% of total 4.9 billion m3. The pattern of spatial distributions: comparing the 2001–2016 period with the 1956–1979 period, mountainous areas were more affected by increasing vegetation cover which for example contributed 42% in Luan River Basin mountainous; the plains were more impacted by farmland ridge interception which for example contributed 51% in Beisi River Basin plains. The pattern of attenuation trend: comparing the 2001–2016 period with the 1980–2000 period, surface water resources in mountainous areas continued to decline, owing to the increasing water consumption of large-scale vegetation restoration, while the influence of the underlying surface changes on surface water resources in plains areas tended to remain stable. The pattern of reversible change: among factors led to surface water resource attenuation, the human activity, including vegetation cover increase, farmland ridge interception, and urbanization expansion, contributed 36% of the attenuation, which resulted in the variation of precipitation-runoff relation. This study improved the traditional attribution classification model of climate change and human activity and analyzed the causes and contributions of water resource attenuation in Hai River Basin based on the water circulation process, which can provide scientific support for the development of water resource management in the basin. Despite a gradual decline in rural population due to urbanization, as of 2022, approximately 35% of China's total population still resides in villages. Over a span of 40 years, carbon emissions from villages have significantly surged, with a sevenfold increase from energy consumption and a 46% rise from agriculture. Consequentially, the development of low-carbon villages is imperative. A comprehensive understanding of the primary sources of carbon emissions in villages is crucial for implementing practical and effective strategies towards low-carbon development. However, limited research has been conducted on quantifying carbon emissions and sinks for Chinese villages. This study aims to address this gap by proposing a methodology for assessing carbon emissions in villages, including the emissions of CO2, CH4 and N2O. Inspired by the IPCC standard methodology for greenhouse gas emissions at national levels and provincial greenhouse gas inventory guidelines customized for China's context incorporating localized characteristics, this approach has been applied to seven villages in Northern China based on field investigations. Employing a range of methods including field surveys, questionnaires, statistical records and big-data platforms, we collected the carbon emission activity levels of the seven villages using the most up-to-date carbon emission factors. Subsequently, the collected data and facts are quantitatively processed to generate results that are compared among the seven villages. These findings are also compared with those from other studies. The analysis indicates that the primary industries in these villages significantly influence the total carbon emissions. Moreover, the study reveals that energy consumption in buildings, agriculture, transportation and waste disposal are the most influential emission sources. These findings provide valuable insights into the carbon emission landscape of villages and can serve as a guide for implementing strategies and policies aimed at promoting low-carbon development in the rural areas of Northern China. Land use and rainfall are two important factors affecting soil erosion processes. The red soil region of southern China is a representative region with high rainfall amounts and rapidly changing land use patterns where the water erosion process is sensitive to changes in land use and rainfall. To comprehensively understand the water erosion response to land use and rainfall in this region, a 6-year in situ experiment based on eight plots (bare land and seven typical land uses) was conducted from 2015 to 2020. The 320 rainfall events were divided into 4 types, and there were 3 main rainfall types. The runoff of different rainfall types was primarily determined by the rainfall amount, while the soil erosion of different rainfall types was primarily determined by the rainfall intensity. High-intensity rainfall contributed the most to both total runoff and soil erosion. Compared with bare land, the seven typical land uses reduced runoff and soil erosion by more than 75%. Grassland, cropland, and forest with low vegetation coverage experienced high runoff and soil erosion, while shrubland most effectively reduced runoff and soil erosion. The combination of land use and rainfall type significantly affected the annual average runoff depth, soil erosion modulus, and soil loss coefficient. Rainfall types can change the relationship between runoff and soil erosion for different land uses. The runoff and soil erosion of bare land were highly correlated with rainfall characteristics, while vegetation weakened this relationship under short- or moderate-duration rainfall. To effectively reduce water erosion, high-intensity rainfall should receive special attention, and all land uses should ensure that vegetation is well developed, especially understory vegetation. Conspiracy theories tend to be prevalent, particularly in societies with high economic inequality. However, few studies have examined the relationship between economic inequality and belief in conspiracy theories. We propose that economic inequality leads people to believe conspiracy theories about economically advantaged groups (i.e., upwards conspiracy theories) and that moral evaluations of those groups mediate this relationship. Study 1 (N = 300) found support for these ideas in a survey among Chinese residents. Study 2 (N = 160) manipulated participants' perceptions of economic inequality in a virtual society. The manipulation shaped moral evaluations of economically advantaged groups, and conspiracy beliefs, in the predicted manner. In Study 3 (N = 191) and Study 4 (N = 210), we experimentally manipulated participants' perceptions of economic inequality in real Chinese society and replicated the results of Study 2. In addition, in Study 4, we find that economic inequality predicts belief in conspiracy theories about economically disadvantaged groups (i.e., downward conspiracy theories), which was mediated by anomie. We conclude that perceived economic inequality predicts conspiracy theories about economically advantaged groups and that moral evaluations account for this effect. Traditional logging methods need a lot of data support such as suction profile information, reservoir geological information, and production information of injection and extraction wells to calculate oil and gas production, which is a tedious and complicated process with low interpretation accuracy. Distributed fiber optic vibration signal logging is a technology that uses fiber optics to sense the vibration signals returned from different formations or well walls to analyze the surrounding formation characteristics or downhole events, which has the advantages of strong real-time monitoring results and high reliability of interpretation results. However, the currently distributed fiber optic vibration signal logging also fails to fully utilize the technical advantages to form a systematic production calculation process. Therefore, this paper proposes to use the K-means++ algorithm to divide the vibration signal frequency bands to represent different downhole events and use the amplitude mean curve envelope area of the reservoir-related frequency bands to calculate the relative production of each production formation. The experimental results correspond well with the relative water absorption data interpreted by conventional production logging, and the accuracy of production interpretation is high, which fills the gap of a production calculation method in the field of distributed fiber optic vibration signal logging in China and strongly promotes the development of the intelligent construction of oil and gas fields. Background: The association of genital Mollicutes infection transition with adverse pregnancy outcomes was insignificant among general pregnant women, but there remains a paucity of evidence linking this relationship in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) women. The aim was to investigate the association between genital Mollicutes infection and transition and adverse pregnancy outcomes in GDM women, and to explore whether this association still exist when Mollicutes load varied. Methods: We involved pregnant women who attended antenatal care in Chongqing, China. After inclusion and exclusion criteria, we conducted a single-center cohort study of 432 GDM women with pregnancy outcomes from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021. The main outcome was adverse pregnancy outcomes, including premature rupture of membrane (PROM), fetal distress, macrosomia and others. The exposure was Mollicutes infection, including Ureaplasma urealyticum (Uu) and Mycoplasma hominis (Mh) collected in both the second and the third trimesters, and testing with polymerase chain reaction method. The logistic regression models were used to estimate the relationship between Mollicutes infection and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Results: Among 432 GDM women, 241 (55.79%) were infected with genital Mollicutes in either the second or third trimester of pregnancy. At the end of the pregnancy follow-up, 158 (36.57%) participants had adverse pregnancy outcomes, in which PROM, fetal distress and macrosomia were the most commonly observed adverse outcomes. Compared with the uninfected group, the Mollicutes (+/-) group showed no statistical significant increase in PROM (OR = 1.05, 95% CI:0.51 ∼ 2.08) and fetal distress (OR = 1.21, 95% CI: 0.31 ∼ 3.91). Among the 77 participants who were both Uu positive in the second and third trimesters, 38 participants presented a declined Uu load and 39 presented an increased Uu load. The Uu increased group had a 2.95 odds ratio (95% CI: 1.10~8.44) for adverse pregnancy outcomes. Conclusion: Mollicutes infection and transition during trimesters were not statistically associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes in GDM women. However, among those consistent infections, women with increasing Uu loads showed increased risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes. For GDM women with certain Mollicutes infection and colonization status, quantitative screening for vaginal infection at different weeks of pregnancy was recommended to provide personalized fertility treatment. Objective To investigate the rehabilitation effects of vestibular rehabilitation in acute brainstem infarction patients with subjective visual vertical (SVV) tilting, and the correlation between the SVV, balance confidence, dizziness/vertigo and walking function. Methods All 45 acute brainstem infarction patients with SVV tilting who were hospitalized in Tianjin Huanhu Hospital from July 2022 to July 2023 were collected. Patients were divided into vestibular rehabilitation group (n = 25) and general rehabilitation group (n = 20), Bucket Test was used to test SVV tilting angle, Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC) was used to evaluate balance confidence, Visual Analog Scales (VAS) was used to evaluate dizziness/vertigo and Functional Ambulation Category Scale (FAC) was used to evaluate walking function before and after 2 weeks of treatment. Results The SVV tilting angle (F = 4.356, P = 0.043), ABC score (F = 4.389, P = 0.042), dizziness/vertigo VAS score (F = 4.138, P = 0.048) were significantly different between vestibular rehabilitation group and general rehabilitation group. After treatment, the SVV tilting angle (t =-2.139, P = 0.038) and the dizziness/vertigo VAS score (t =-2.952, P = 0.005) in vestibular rehabilitation group were lower than those in general rehabilitation group, and the ABC score was higher than that in general rehabilitation group (t = 2.920, P = 0.006). SVV tilting angle (F = 196.923, P = 0.000), ABC score (F = 89.050, P = 0.000), dizziness/vertigo VAS score (F = 81.803, P = 0.000), FAC grade (F = 72.866, P = 0.000) were statistically significant. Samples of scrub plants and soil were collected from May to October 2019 in the subalpine scrub zone of the Qilian Mountains. Based on measured oxygen isotope values (δ18O) in plant xylem water and soil water, the multivariate linear mixed model (IsoSource) and the proportional similarity index (PS index) were used to analyze the using proportion for each potential water source and the competition relationship for water use of scrub plants in different growing periods and habitats. The results showed that the soil water content gradually decreased with increasing depth of the soil layer, with the maximum value in the soil layer of 0–10 cm. Most of the scrub plants mainly used soil water in the soil layer of 0–30 cm during the different periods of growing season, but Salix sclerophylla Anderss. and Salix oritrepha Schneid. on the semi-sunny slope habitat mainly used soil water in the soil layer of 40–80 cm during the middle period of growing season (July–August), with the proportion of 59.5% and 52.1%, respectively; and Potentilla fruticosa Linn. and Salix cupularis Rehd. on the semi-shady slope habitat mainly used soil water in the soil layer of 30–60 cm during the early period of growing season (May–June), with the proportion of 61.1% and 49.7%, respectively. Extreme weather events and frequent meteorological disasters pose significant threats to vegetation growth in the context of climate change. However, information regarding the impact of extreme climate events on vegetation in the ecologically fragile Karst area has been lacking. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by quantifying changes in extreme temperature and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) while exploring the relationship between extreme temperature and NDVI in Guangxi's Karst area, China. Our analysis reveals a pronounced trend toward extreme warming in the study region from 2000 to 2019. Warm days TX90d, TX95d, and TX99d (count of days where daily maximum temperature TX > 90th, 95th, and 99th percentile) significantly (P < 0.05) increased 7.1, 5.5, and 2.0 days per decade. Warm nights TN90d, TN95d, and TN98d (count of nights where daily minimum temperature TN > 90th, 95th, and 98th percentile) significantly (P < 0.05) increased 9.7, 6.8, and 4.2 days per decade, with the increase rate greater than warm days. Annual days for daily maximum temperature higher than 35 °C also increased 3.4 days per decade. The annual NDVI increased 0.04 per decade. We have identified a negative linear relationship between the trends of very cold and very warm days (i.e., very cold days TX01d and hot days TX99d) and NDVI. In contrast, the annual NDVI demonstrates a positive correlation with the annual days for daily maximum temperature higher than 35 °C. The results suggested that climate warming might to some extent benefit the vegetation growth. The Yungang Grottoes, one of China's most notable cultural heritage sites, are located in sandstone strata. The main causes of deterioration observed in the field are associated with moisture action, which greatly affects the long-term performance of the material. In particular, for immovable cultural heritage that is exposed to natural climatic fluctuations throughout the year, interaction with water vapor cannot be avoided. To obtain an insight into the water vapor transmission properties of local sandstone, a series of laboratory tests were conducted using the wet-cup method. The correlation of water vapor transmission with environmental relative humidity and pore structure was examined. The results indicate that as the relative humidity increased, the diffusion coefficient increased considerably due to the contribution of capillary condensate flow. In addition, a positive relationship was found between the diffusion coefficient and open porosity. The water vapor diffusion in sandstone occurred in transitory mode and the diffusion coefficient was estimated from the average pore radius. The calculated values were two orders of magnitude larger than those measured in the tests, reflecting the complex microstructural features concerning diffusion paths and area. Roegneria yenchiana sp. nov. (Triticeae) is a new species collected from Shangri‐la of Yunnan Province in China based on morphological, cytological, and molecular data. It is morphologically characterized by one spikelet per node, rectangular glums, awns flanked by two short mucros in lemmas, distinguished from other species of Roegneria. The genomic in situ hybridization results indicate that R. yenchiana is an allotetraploid, and its genomic constitution is StY. Phylogenetic analyses based on multiple loci suggested that R. yenchiana is closely related to Pseudoroegneria and Roegneria, and the Pseudoroegneria served as the maternal donors during its polyploid speciation. Background: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is the most common neonatal metabolic disorder. In patients with CH in China, thyroid dyshormonogenesis is more common than thyroid dysgenesis; however, the genetic causes of CH due to thyroid dyshormonogenesis remain largely unknown. Therefore, we aimed at identifying novel candidate causative genes for CH. Methods: To identify novel CH candidate genes, a total of 599 patients with CH were enrolled and next-generation sequencing was performed. The functions of the identified variants were confirmed using HEK293T and FTC-133 cell lines in vitro and in a mouse model organism in vivo. Results: Three pathogenic contactin 6 (CNTN6) variants were identified in two patients with CH. Pedigree analysis showed that CH caused by CNTN6 variants was inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. The CNTN6 gene was highly expressed in the thyroid in humans and mice. Cntn6 knockout mice presented with thyroid dyshormonogenesis and CH due to the decreased expression of crucial genes for thyroid hormone biosynthesis (Slc5a5, Tpo, and Duox2). All three CNTN6 variants resulted in the blocking of the release of the Notch intracellular domain, which could not translocate into the nucleus, impaired NOTCH1 transcriptional activity, and decreased expression of SLC5A5, TPO, and DUOX2. Further, we found that DTX1 was required for CNTN6 to promote thyroid hormone biosynthesis through Notch signaling. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that CNTN6 is a novel causative gene for CH through the mediation of thyroid hormone biosynthesis via Notch signaling, which provides new insights into the genetic background and mechanisms involved in CH and thyroid dyshormonogenesis. Background: Living in higher greenness level community has many benefits for pregnancy outcomes, however, few research have explored the relationship between greenness and spontaneous abortion (SAB). We aimed to analyze relationships between SAB and community greenness in Chinese pregnant women, and further assessed the modifying effects from air pollutants. Methods: We studied 90 890 pregnant women from the China Birth Cohort Study from February 2018 to December 2021. We diagnosed SAB by certified obstetricians and gynecologists. The level of exposure to greenness during the first trimester was measured using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the enhanced vegetation index (EVI). Particulate matter ≤ 2.5 μm (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) were used as proxies of ambient air pollution. Time-dependent multivariable adjusted Cox proportional hazards models, with gestational weeks as the time scale, were used to analyze the association between SAB and greenness. We additionally performed subgroup analyses stratified by age, urbanicity, research location, season of birth, temperature, humidity and air pollution levels. Results: Lower SAB prevalence was related to living in greener places. A 0.1 unit increase in NDVI500m and EVI500m was significantly associated with a 12.3% (95% CI 9.9%, 15.5%) and 16.2% (95% CI 11.4%, 20.6%) lower risks of SAB, respectively. In sensitivity analysis, these relationships remained consistent. The associations were stronger among older, participants lived in the north of China and lived in places with higher PM2.5 and lower NO2 levels. Conclusions: Our findings indicate significantly inverse associations between community greenness and SAB in Chinese pregnant women, especially for older and participants who live in the north of China, the PM2.5 and NO2 may modify the effects of greenness on SAB. Soil bacterial communities play a crucial role in the evaluation of soil ecosystem stability. Vegetation restoration is a key determinant of soil bacterial communities in areas affected by soil erosion. However, it remains unclear how the structure and diversity of soil bacterial communities vary with soil depth. In this study, we collected soil samples from 0 to 10 cm, 10 to 20 cm, 20 to 30 cm, and 30 to 40 cm depths in vegetation restoration sites located in typical soil erosion areas in China. We compared and analyzed the differences in bacterial community characteristics among different soil depths, using untreated areas as controls. Compared to the untreated areas, the abundance of soil bacteria in the 0–10 cm, 10–20 cm, and 20–30 cm depths of the vegetation restoration sites increased by 1.63, 1.04, and 1.29 times, respectively. Furthermore, vegetation restoration enhanced soil bacterial diversity at the 0–10 cm, 10–20 cm, and 20–30 cm depths. Soil organic carbon (OC) was the main explanatory factor (53.50%, p = 0.000) for the decrease in soil bacterial diversity with soil depth. Additionally, after vegetation restoration in soil erosion areas, the dominant bacterial community composition shifted from Chloroflexi to Actinobacteria at the 0–10 cm, 10–20 cm, and 20–30 cm depths and to Proteobacteria at the 30–40 cm depth. The differences in soil bacterial communities among different soil depths were primarily driven by soil total nitrogen (TN) content, which explained up to 34.5% of the variation. In conclusion, in the subsequent management of vegetation restoration sites, increasing OC and TN content can enhance soil bacterial diversity, improve bacterial community composition, and ultimately enhance the stability of soil ecosystems. Researchers continue to debate about how high-status and low-status members will divide into subgroups. The purpose of this research is to enrich the faultline, subgroup, and status literature by specifying how and why status-based subgroups (i.e., subgroups based on status positions) are formed within a team. This research employed a grounded theory approach and conducted interviews with 111 individuals distributed over 21 work teams in Chinese highly competitive industries. The results identify two typical formation patterns of the status-based subgroup: vertical stratification that indicates team members vertically split into different subgroups along status hierarchies, and horizontal polarization that indicates team members at the same status horizontally divided into different subgroups. Furthermore, the results distinguish different sources for the formation of stratified and polarized status-based subgroups. This study expands faultline and subgroup literature by identifying multiple formation patterns and sources of status-based subgroup, and contributes to status literature by clarifying how high-status and low-status members will bound together or split within a work team. This study investigates the coupled variability of temperature and precipitation in eastern China during summer using empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis to better understand and mitigate simultaneous occurrences of extreme events, such as compound droughts and heat waves. Two dominant modes are identified: the first exhibits a strong warming and drying trend in the region north of the Yangtze River, with the opposite occurring in the south; the second illustrates decadal oscillations in temperature and precipitation, alternating between cool-wet conditions and warm-dry conditions in southern China. The underlying mechanisms for these leading modes are revealed through correlation, composite analysis, and model simulations. The first mode is associated with a negative Pacific-Japan teleconnection in the lower atmosphere and a stationary Rossby wave train across Eurasia in the upper troposphere, which are influenced by global warming and sea surface temperature anomalies in the western North Atlantic. The second mode is linked to alternating active periods of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO). The NAO exerts a significant influence on the summer climate in eastern China during its active phases, while the PDO shows an opposite effect when the NAO is less active. Soil hydraulic properties significantly affect the occurrence and development of collapsing gully walls. The effect of temperature on the hydraulic properties of soil in collapsing gully walls remains unclear. In this study, the hydraulic properties of the red soil layer, the sandy soil layer and the detritus layer in a collapsing gully wall were investigated using the filter paper method, and the soil water retention curves of the different soil layers at 25 and 40 °C were determined. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of temperature on the soil hydraulic properties of different soil layers in collapsing gully walls. The study found that when the water content in the red soil layer and sandy soil layer exceeded 20% and in the detritus layer exceeded 10%, the soil's matric suction significantly decreased as the temperature increased from 25 to 40 °C. Additionally, the parameters of θ s , α , n and m all exhibited a decreasing trend, and the soil water content in the detritus layer was primarily influenced by the temperature change, which resulted in a decrease of 38.10%. The unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of the detritus layer exhibited higher values than that of the sandy layer and red soil layer under identical temperature conditions. Moreover, the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of the red soil layer, sandy soil layer and detritus layer increased with increasing temperature. It was observed that the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of the detritus layer increased by 0.18 cm h−1 at a soil water content of 44%. This increase in conductivity was more pronounced than the corresponding changes in the red soil layer and sandy soil layer. An elevated temperature caused the water-holding capacity of the different soil layers of the collapsing gully wall to decrease and the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity to increase. However, the influence of the clay particle content within the soil of the collapsing gully wall rendered the temperature effect more distinct. Therefore, the destabilizing deformation of the soil in the collapsing gully wall during the summer under high temperatures and precipitation may have played a key role in its collapse. Protamine is a cationic peptide derived from fish sperm and has several important functional properties: antibacterial properties, acting as a carrier for injectable insulin and as a heparin antagonist, combatting fatigue, etc. Thus, it has been widely used in medicinal applications and food products. Cultured Takifugu flavidus is a type of pufferfish with a delicious taste that is popular in China, and its production is increasing significantly. Therefore, protamine was extracted via acid extraction from the sperm of Takifugu flavidus and further isolated and purified via sephadex gel chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, and desalination chromatography. Furthermore, the physicochemical properties of protamine were investigated. The results showed that the sperm of the cultured T. flavidus were non-toxic, and the extracted and purified protamine had high contents of arginine (36.90%) and lysine (27.02%), respectively. The secondary structure of protamine was mainly β-folded and irregularly curled. Additionally, protamine exhibited high thermal stability with a denaturation temperature of 176 °C. This study would provide a theoretical basis for the structural analysis, bioactivity, and resource development of pufferfish protamine and help to promote the development of the pufferfish industry. Simple Summary: In China, the large eggs of the Chinese oak silkworm (COS), Antheraea pernyi, have been extensively utilized as beneficial factitious hosts for the mass rearing of parasitoid wasps and in the biological control of agricultural and forestry pests. Furthermore, the eri silkworm (ES), Samia cynthia ricini, has a widely distributed large egg that has the potential for use in the mass rearing of Trichogramma parasitoids. This study investigates the role of T. chilonis as a dominant Trichogramma species in lepidopteran pest control for agricultural and forestry production. It offers a comparative analysis of T. chilonis parasitism and suitability with respect to the large eggs from two factitious hosts, the ES and COS. The results reveal the feasibility of mass producing T. chilonis using ES eggs and provide insights into this species' parasitism of both COS and ES eggs. These findings are crucial for developing a cost-effective strategy for large-scale Trichogramma rearing using ES eggs, contributing to efficient biological pest control in agricultural and forestry contexts. Trichogramma, an effective biological control agent, demonstrates promise in environmentally sustainable pest management through its parasitic action toward insect eggs. This study evaluates the parasitism fitness and ability of T. chilonis with regard to two factitious host eggs, aiming to develop a cost-effective biological control program. While T. chilonis demonstrated the ability to parasitize both host eggs, the results indicate a preference for ES eggs over COS eggs. The parasitism and emergence rates of T. chilonis regarding ES eggs (parasitism: 89.3%; emergence: 82.6%) surpassed those for COS eggs (parasitism: 74.7%; emergence: 68.8%), with a notable increase in the number of emergence holes observed in the ES eggs compared to the COS eggs. Moreover, the developmental time of T. chilonis for ES eggs (10.8 days) was shorter than that for COS eggs (12.5 days), resulting in a lower number of dead wasps produced. Notably, no significant difference was observed in the female ratios between the two species. A comprehensive analysis was conducted, comparing the size and shell thickness of the two factitious hosts. The ES eggs exhibited smaller dimensions (length: 1721.5 μm; width: 1178.9 μm) in comparison to the COS eggs (length: 2908.8 μm; width: 2574.4 μm), with the ES eggshells being thinner (33.8 μm) compared to the COS eggshells (47.3 μm). The different host species had an effect on the body length of the reared parasitoids, with T. chilonis reared on COS hosts exhibiting a larger body length (female: 626.9 µm; male: 556.7 µm) than those reared on ES hosts (female: 578.8 µm; male: 438.4 µm). STUDY QUESTION Do couple's age ranges for optimal fecundability, and the associations with fecundability of couple's age combinations and age differences differ with gravidity? SUMMARY ANSWER The couple's age range of optimal fecundability and age combinations differed with gravidity, and gravidity might modify the associations of age and spousal age difference with couple's fecundability. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Age is one of the strongest determinants of fecundability, but the existing studies have certain limitations in study population, couple's extreme age combinations and age differences, and have not explored whether the association between age and fecundability differs with gravidity. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION Retrospective cohort study. 5 407 499 general reproductive-aged couples (not diagnosed with infertility) participated in the National Free Pre-conception Check-up Projects during 2015–2017. They were followed up for pregnancy outcomes through telephone interviews every 3 months until they became pregnant or were followed up for 1 year. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS The main outcome was time to pregnancy, and the fecundability odds ratios and 95% CIs were estimated using the Cox models for discrete survival time. The associations of age and spousal age difference with fecundability were evaluated by restricted cubic splines. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE In this large cohort of general reproductive-aged population, the age of optimal fecundability of multigravida couples was older than that of nulligravida couples, but their subsequent fecundability declined more sharply with age. The decline in female fecundability was more pronounced with age, with fecundability dropping by ∼30% in both nulligravida and multigravida couples whose female partners aged ≥35 years. In the nulligravida group, the fecundability of couples who were both ≤24 years with the same age was the highest, which decreased steadily with the increase of spousal age difference, and younger male partners did not seem to contribute to improving couple's fecundability. In the multigravida group, couples with female partners aged 25–34 years and a spousal age difference of −5 to 5 years showed higher fecundability, and the effect of spousal age difference on couple's fecundability became suddenly apparent when female partners aged around 40 years. Young male partners were unable to change the decisive effect of female partner's age over 40 years on couple's reduced fecundability, regardless of gravidity. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Lacking the time for couples to attempt pregnancy before enrollment, and some couples might suspend pregnancy plans during follow-up because of certain emergencies, which would misestimate the fecundability. Due to the lack of information on sperm quality and sexual frequency of couples, we could not adjust for these factors. Moreover, due to population characteristics, the extrapolation of our results required caution. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The couple's age range of optimal fecundability, age combinations, and spousal age difference on fecundability varied with gravidity. Female age-related decline in fecundability was more dominant in couple's fecundability. Targeted fertility guidance should be provided to couples with different age combinations and gravidities. Assessing the distribution and risks associated with the soil lead content in the Tieguanyin tea plantations of Anxi County is critical, given the county's significance as the primary Tieguanyin tea production area in Fujian Province. This study examined the distribution characteristics of soil lead in Anxi County's tea plantations according to the Kriging spatial interpolation of the parameters of the semivariance function of the exponential model. Moreover, the sources of lead content were analyzed, considering geological backgrounds and anthropogenic influences. Ecological risks and the issuance of early warnings were also assessed. The soil lead content in the rocks of the Tieguanyin tea plantations in Anxi County followed the order: andesite > dacite > rhyolite > granite. The soil lead content gradually decreased from the center toward the east and west, forming four distinct north–south parallel zones. High-lead-content areas were identified at the border of Jiandou, Bailai, and Hushang; in the central part of Lutian; and in the southern part of Huqiu. The high levels of soil lead in the tea plantations possibly originated from industrial and mining activities, automobile exhaust, and agricultural activities. The distribution of single-factor pollution indices and potential risk evaluation based on the Soil Environmental Quality Standard, Environmental Technical Conditions for Tea Production Area, and Environmental Technical Conditions for Organic Tea Production Area indicated that the soil in Tieguanyin tea plantations in Anxi County was clean and safe for tea cultivation. The Longnan goat (LN) is a local breed discovered during the third census of China's livestock and poultry genetic resources. In order to thoroughly comprehend the population traits, this research examined a total of 70 animals from three different goat populations, namely the LN goat, Nanjiang Brown goat (NJ), and Boer goat (Boer). Specific‐Locus Amplified Fragment Sequencing was employed to analyze genetic diversity, population structure, and selective sweep patterns. Additionally, individual DNA fingerprints were generated to provide detailed genetic profiles for each subject. A total of 643,868 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected, with a majority located in intergenic and intronic regions. Genetic diversity analysis uncovered lower diversity within the LN population compared to the other two populations. The analysis of population structure unveiled significant genetic distance between LN and both NJ and Boer populations, with distinct clustering patterns observed. Moreover, genetic differentiation coefficients (FST) of 0.1019 and 0.0854 were determined between LN and Boer, as well as LN and NJ, respectively, indicating substantial genetic differentiation. Selective sweep analysis, combining FST and π ratio, identified several genes associated with growth and development, reproduction, hair color, and immunity that may serve as valuable candidates for marker‐assisted breeding. Furthermore, identification of 47,541 runs of homozygosity (ROHs) revealed non‐uniform distribution across chromosomes, with the highest frequency on chromosome 1 and the lowest on chromosome 27. Correlations between different inbreeding coefficients varied, with the highest observed between FHOM and FGRM, and the lowest between FROH >1.5Mb and FROH <500kb. A total of 46 candidate genes were annotated within high‐frequency ROH islands, primarily associated with biological processes such as reproduction, growth and development, and immunity. Finally, a DNA fingerprint, consisting of 371 highly polymorphic SNPs, was generated and presented in the form of a two‐dimensional code for convenient access. Based on the population structure analysis, LN goats have been found to have a distant genetic distance and a higher degree of differentiation from both the Boer and NJ populations. Evaluation of genetic diversity parameters and ROH analysis indicates that the LN population exhibits lower genetic diversity and shows signs of inbreeding. Aims Understanding the transmission mode of syphilis is essential to prevent and predict its future prevalence and to develop effective control measures. This study aimed to develop a network suspected infectious disease model to simulate the syphilis transmission. Methods and results The number of syphilis cases in Wuhan's Fourth Hospital, Hubei province, China, from October 2015 to July 2021 was collected. The simulation was carried out by interpersonal network-SI (suspected infectious) model based on temporal exponential family random graph models. Late latent syphilis and tertiary syphilis are predicted by December 2025. The validity of simulated value and real data was tested, including determination coefficient (R 2), root means square error (RMSE), and means relative error (MRE). Moreover, we developed an online app that can more easily predict the number of syphilis infections in different scenarios by setting different parameters. Results showed that R 2, RMSE, and MRE were 0.995, 36.19, and 6.31, respectively. Speed from latent infection to primary syphilis, primary syphilis to secondary syphilis, and susceptible group to latent infection decreased rapidly. The speed of transformation from secondary syphilis to early incubation period and early latent to late latent experienced a process from increase to decreased. Late latent to tertiary syphilis patients increased steadily. The number of late latent patients, early latent, invisible infection, primary syphilis, and secondary syphilis all increased at first and turn to decreased. However, tertiary syphilis continuously kept rising in the whole process. To better make use of the transmission model, an online application was developed (https://alanwu.shinyapps.io/MD-shiny/). Potassium is essential for plant growth and development and stress adaptation. The maintenance of potassium homeostasis involves a series of potassium channels and transporters, which promote the movement of potassium ions (K+) across cell membranes and exhibit complex expression patterns and regulatory mechanisms. Rice is a major food crop in China. The low utilization rate of potassium fertilizer limits the yield and quality of rice. Elucidating the molecular mechanisms of potassium absorption, transport, and utilization is critical in improving potassium utilization efficiency in rice. Although some K+ transporter genes have been identified from rice, research on the regulatory network is still in its infancy. Therefore, this review summarizes the relevant information on K+ channels and transporters in rice, covering the absorption of K+ in the roots, transport to the shoots, the regulation pathways, the relationship between K+ and the salt tolerance of rice, and the synergistic regulation of potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus signals. The related research on rice potassium nutrition has been comprehensively reviewed, the existing research foundation and the bottleneck problems to be solved in this field have been clarified, and the follow-up key research directions have been pointed out to provide a theoretical framework for the cultivation of potassium-efficient rice. Serum uric acid (SUA) is considered as a risk factor for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, current studies showed inconsistent results. This study aimed to explore the relationship between SUA levels and GDM risk. Eligible studies were retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases up to November 1, 2022. The pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to represent the difference in SUA levels between GDM women and controls. The combined odds ratios (OR) and 95% CI were applied to assess association between SUA levels and GDM risk. Subgroup analyses were conducted on study continents, design, and quality, detection time of SUA, and GDM diagnostic criteria. Totally 11 studies including five case-control and six cohort studies, in which 80,387 pregnant women with 9815 GDM were included. The overall meta-analysis showed that the mean SUA level in GDM group was significantly higher than in controls (SMD = 0.423, 95%CI = 0.019–0.826, p =.040, I2 = 93%). Notably, pregnant women with elevated levels of SUA had a significantly increased risk of GDM (OR = 1.670, 95%CI = 1.184–2.356, p =.0035, I2 = 95%). Furthermore, subgroup analysis performed on the detection time of SUA showed a significant difference in the association between SUA and GDM risk within different trimesters (1st trimester: OR = 3.978, 95%CI = 2.177–7.268; 1st to 2nd trimester: OR = 1.340, 95%CI = 1.078–1.667; p between subgroups <.01). Elevated SUA was positively associated with GDM risk, particularly in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Further studies with high quality are required to validate the findings of this study. Meteorological disasters have increasingly become one of the important interferences limiting vegetation growth and productivity recent years, especially in ecologically fragile regions. However, it is unknown how much the impact of meteorological disaster on the vegetation in ecologically fragile area under the changing climate. This study aims to identify the spatial and temporal distribution of four meteorological disasters (drought, rainstorm, high temperature, and low temperature) as well as net primary productivity (NPP) reduction rate in Guangxi province, China, which has large ecologically fragile Karst areas. We also aim to quantify the relative impact of each disaster on NPP loss. During the last 20 years (2000–2019), there was a decreasing trend for drought indicator (drought days), but an increasing trend for rainstorm (cumulated rainfall for daily rainfall higher than 50 mm and less than 99.9 mm), high temperature (daily maximum air temperature higher than 35°C and less than 37°C days), and low temperature (cumulated thermal time for daily minimum temperature less than 0°C) indictors. In the northeast area of study region, all the intensity of rainstorm, high- and low-temperature disasters showed an increasing trend. Under the more intense and frequent meteorological disasters, 87% study sites (60 stations/69 stations in total) showed an increasing trend in terms of NPP reduction rate. Results on grey correlation between each meteorological disaster and NPP reduction rate showed that high-temperature disaster had the greatest impact (27%) on vegetation growth, followed by drought (25%) and rainstorm (25%) disaster, and then low-temperature (23%) disaster. Stable isotopes of precipitation play an important role in understanding hydrological and climatic processes of arid inland river basins. In order to better understand the difference of regional water cycle and precipitation patterns, precipitation samples were collected in Shiyang River Basin from June 2018 to May 2020, and spatial and temporal variation characteristics of stable isotopes in precipitation and their relationships with meteorological factors were discussed. The results showed that stable isotopes in precipitation showed seasonal variation characteristics, that δ2H and δ18O values were higher in summer and autumn and lower in winter and spring, and d-excess values were higher in spring and autumn and lower in winter and summer. Slopes and intercepts of the local meteoric water lines gradually increased with elevation increasing. δ18O significantly showed a positive correlation with temperature but a negative correlation with precipitation in summer. Contrary to below 15 hPa, δ18O significantly showed a negative correlation with water vapor pressure above 15 hPa. Due to the influence of meteorological factors, there are significant differences in stable isotopes of precipitation in arid inland river basins, which were more influenced by local moisture recycling in upstream area but by below-cloud secondary evaporation in mid-downstream area. This study investigates the effect of corporate environmental information disclosure (EID) on green innovation in China's heavily polluting industries during 2009–2020 and the moderating effect of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) visibility. The results show that: (1) corporate EID increases green innovation, and CEO visibility strengthens the positive impact of corporate EID on green innovation. (2) The green innovation fostered by EID comes from the leverage effect, not from the crowding‐out effect at the expense of other existing innovations; EID stimulates green innovation by alleviating financing constraints and increasing R&D expenditures. (3) Corporate EID has a greater impact on substantive green innovation than on strategic green innovation, and hard EID makes a more significant contribution to green innovation than soft EID does. (4) State‐owned, large, and established enterprises benefit more from the promotion effect of EID on green innovation as well as the positive moderating effect of CEO visibility. The carbon quota allocation rules of China's pilot carbon emissions trading (CET) regions are various, which mainly include benchmarking, historical carbon intensity reduction and auctioning. When the allocation rules change, it is unresolved how to achieve the optimal product prices and effectively allocate the carbon emissions reduction profits of CET-covered enterprises in the cooperative supply chain. Thus, this paper uses the Stackelberg game, Nash equilibrium and the Shapley value based on cost modification to investigate these issues. The results indicate that: (1) The increasing carbon prices can always improve the retail prices only under the auctioning rule. Meanwhile, the growing low-carbon awareness of consumer cannot be always conducive to improving the wholesale and retail prices, and the similar product prices of non-CET-covered enterprises have greater impact on the wholesale prices than that on the retail prices. (2) Only under the free carbon quota allocation rules, can the optimal wholesale and retail prices under the Stackelberg game be always higher than those under the Nash equilibrium. Meanwhile, the auctioning rule can better reduce carbon emissions than the free allocation rules. (3) Improving carbon emissions reduction contribution and emission reduction costs can be conducive to increasing the carbon emission reduction profits of the supplier and retailer, while the impact of carbon emission reduction contribution on improving the carbon emission reduction profits is not always greater than that of the carbon emission reduction costs. Urban digital infrastructure is the cornerstone of optimizing resource allocation and promoting sustainable economic development in the era of digital economy, and it will also affect corporate ESG performance. Based on the data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2011 to 2021, an asymptotic difference-in-difference model is used to investigate the impact of urban digital infrastructure on corporate ESG performance based on the "broadband China" strategy and its underlying mechanism. This paper finds that urban digital infrastructure can promote corporate ESG performance. Further, urban digital infrastructure can contribute to corporate ESG performance by increasing research and development (R&D) investment, improving corporate governance, and increasing information transparency. Through heterogeneity analysis, the results show urban digital infrastructure contributes more significantly to the ESG performance of state-owned, small and medium, growth-stage, and low-profit companies and is more pronounced in non-heavy polluting companies and companies in the central and western regions. This paper has enhanced the theoretical framework of urban digital infrastructure and corporate ESG (environmental, social, and governance) performance, paving the way for a new approach to the collaborative development of cities and enterprises in pursuit of green and sustainable growth. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in China leverage their strengths to engage stakeholders in knowledge co-creation processes and get mutual benefit via knowledge-based view (KBV). Design/methodology/approach: Based on KBV, the authors conduct a multiple-case study of five SMEs in China to embrace the knowledge co-creation practice using semi-structured interview, organizational documents and onsite observation. Findings: This study highlights how SMEs leverage their strengths to engage stakeholder to co-create knowledge and practice for the better capturing and utilization of external and internal knowledge. The authors identify three processes of knowledge co-creation for SMEs based on knowledge sharing, knowledge integration and knowledge application in the B2B context. This study finds that SMEs engage their stakeholders in knowledge sharing by building and maintaining trust. The knowledge integration process was driven by the owner's openness. Mutual learning facilitates the knowledge application process of SMEs. Research limitations/implications: This study relies on a limited number of case studies and considers only firms' perspective to analyze the SMEs co-create knowledge with their stakeholders. Further studies could examine the challenge of knowledge co-creation in multiple stakeholders' relationships in B2B contexts, i.e. in relation to product and service innovation with complexity and uncertainly. Practical implications: Managers need to make choices when designing knowledge co-creation process in collaborative product development activities. The use of online and offline approaches can help balance requirements in terms of joint problem-solving across firms, the efficiency of knowledge co-creation and effective of knowledge leakage. Originality/value: The conceptualization of knowledge co-creation as knowledge sharing and knowledge integration and knowledge application extends existing perspective on knowledge co-creation as either a transfer of knowledge or as revealing the novel situation of pertinent knowledge with entirely assimilate it. The findings point to the complexity of knowledge co-creation as a process influenced by stakeholder engagement, perspectives on knowledge, trust of multiple stakeholders, openness of firm boundaries and mutual learning of SMEs with their stakeholders. Political connections are the main social resource of a company. Internal control and digital transformation are different tools that increase the efficient distribution of resources. This study explores the relationship between executive political connections and financial performance. It also examines the function of internal control quality and digital transformation in terms of this relationship. We used data from Chinese A-share listed companies as a sample. The results suggest that having political connections can significantly improve financial performance and that the quality of internal control plays a partial mediating role in state-owned enterprises. Moreover, when digital transformation is taken as a moderating variable, the role of political connections or internal control in enterprise performance will be weakened. Enterprises should take full advantage of political connections and establish a high-quality internal control system. At present, COVID-19 vaccination is an effective method to stop the spread of the epidemic and reduce disease severity and mortality. It has been reported that COVID-19 vaccine can activate several autoimmune diseases. However, whether it can affect development of vitiligo remains elusive. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the possible risk factors of vitiligo disease activity or recurrence after COVID-19 vaccination. We recruited 383 vitiligo patients, of whom 126 were not vaccinated and 257 had received the COVID-19 vaccine. Vitiligo disease activity (VIDA) score was used to analyze key risk factors of vitiligo in patients who underwent COVID-19 vaccination. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to explore the risk factors associated with VIDA. Compared with patients without history of undergoing vaccination, the VIDA score of vaccinated patients increased significantly (3(2, 4) vs. 3(2, 3) scores, P < 0.01). Logistic regression analysis identified COVID-19 vaccination (odds ratio (OR): 3.040, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.649–5.603) as an independent risk factor for VIDA. Purpose: Journal clubs hold significant importance in medical education, with numerous studies highlighting their contributions worldwide. However, studies specifically examining their role in China, particularly among Chinese medical postgraduates categorized into academic and clinical types, remain scarce. This research aims to investigate the participation, performance, and benefits of journal clubs, and explore the influence of student type and study phase on these aspects. Method: A survey encompassing demographic information, participation rates, performance evaluations, and perceived improvements was distributed to postgraduates at Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. A total of 232 completed questionnaires were included for further analysis. Statistical analysis employed the Mann–Whitney U test and Gamma tests, with statistical significance set at p-value < 0.05. Results: Overall participation and performance in journal clubs among Chinese medical postgraduates were comparable to global findings. Notably, academic postgraduates exhibited higher levels of attendance rate and gained more research assistance than clinical postgraduates, while their performance levels were similar. When considering the study phase, a downward trend in academic postgraduates' attendance rate and listening attitude and an upward trend in clinical postgraduates' participation were observed with the seniority phase. Additionally, presentation comments, post-presentation progress, and research assistance showed improvements over time for both student types. Conclusions: This study reveals academic postgraduates' fatigue, contrasting with clinical postgraduates' enthusiasm, and underscores academic postgraduates' superior research assistance. To address these findings, we recommend supporting and encouraging scientific research training for clinical postgraduates, aiding academic postgraduates in better time management and reducing non-essential responsibilities, and implementing critical appraisal skill education.
