Purpose: This study aims to explore the information needs of Chinese parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and how these needs evolve as their children develop. Design/methodology/approach: This study collated 17,122 questions regarding raising children with ASD via the Yi Lin website until November 2021. Findings: The information needs of parents of children with ASD were classified into two categories: 1) Cognition-motivation: related to children with ASD; and 2) Affection-motivation: related to their parents. Child development causes the adaptation of information needs of these parents. Within the first three years, nine different topics of these parents' information needs were identified. Major information needs at this stage are as follows: intervention content, intervention methods and pre-diagnosis questions. During the ages of three to six years, there were 13 topics of information needs for parents, focusing on three areas: intervention content, intervention methods and diagnosis and examination. There are eight topics of information needs post six years. Parents are more concerned with the three topics of intervention content, life planning and intervention methods. Originality/value: This novel study indicates the complex and changing information needs of parents of children with ASD in China. It may enhance the understanding of the information needs of these parents at theoretical and practical levels, provide support for them to understand their own information needs and provide a reference for relevant government and social organisations to provide targeted information services for them. Qiongzhuea tumidinoda stands out as an endemic bamboo species of significant conservation importance in Southwest China, particularly in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It holds a pivotal role in poverty alleviation through the commercialization of its wood and bamboo shoots. However, the suitable area of this species is undergoing rapid changes due to climate change, resulting in species redistribution and potential losses for bamboo farmers. We utilized 209 presence records and 25 environmental variables from 1987 to 2012 to predict the potentially suitable habitats for Q. tumidinoda using MaxEnt (version 3.4.1), ArcGIS (version 10.8.2), and R (4.3.3). We rigorously screened the recorded data for reliability and accuracy through expert consultations and observer interviews. We performed pre-processing to select the variables with high contributions for modeling, and 11 variables were selected for the final modeling. Our findings reveal that the top three most influential variables associated with Q. tumidinoda's distribution were the mean monthly potential evapotranspiration (Pet), annual range of air temperatures (Bio7), and mean diurnal air temperature range (Bio2), and the rates of contributions from 1987 to 2012 were 4.8333, 3.5833, and 1.7000. There was a southeastward shift and an elevation increase in the potentially suitable habitats for Q. tumidinoda. The area of potentially suitable habitats in the study region exhibited fluctuating growth, expanding from 3063.42 km2 to 7054.38 km2. The mean monthly potential evapotranspiration (Pet) emerged as a critical determinant shaping the distribution of potentially suitable habitats for Q. tumidinoda. Our study sheds light on the response of Q. tumidinoda to climate change, offering valuable insights for the development and management of plantation industries associated with this species. In the future, to enhance prediction accuracy, researchers could equally consider both organic and inorganic environmental variables. For better preservation of environment and development, Q. tumidinoda could be introduced into nature restoration projects in areas with a suitable habitat or as a commodity that participates in forest carbon sink trading. There are growing concerns about elevated lead (Pb) levels in lip cosmetics, yet in China, the largest lip cosmetic market, recent Pb contamination in lip cosmetics and associated Pb exposure remain unclear. Here, we measured Pb levels of 29 popular lip cosmetics in China and conducted the bioaccessibility-corrected carcinogenic risk assessments and sensitivity analysis regarding Pb exposure for consumers using Monte Carlo simulation. The Pb concentrations of collected samples ranged from undetectable (< 0.05 µg/kg) to 0.21 mg/kg, all of which were well below the Pb concentration limit set for cosmetics in China (10 mg/kg). The 50th percentile incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) of Pb in Chinese cosmetics (1.20E-07) was below the acceptable level (1E-06), indicating that the application of lip cosmetics and subsequent Pb exposure does not pose carcinogenic risks to consumers in most cases. China's widely adopted expressway ETC system provides a feasible foundation for realizing co-operative vehicle–infrastructure integration, and the accuracy of ETC data, which forms the basis of this scheme, will directly affect the safety of driving. Therefore, this study focuses on the abnormal data in an expressway ETC system. This study combines road network topology data and capture data to mine the abnormal patterns of ETC data, and it designs an abnormal identification model for expressway transaction data based on TL-XGBoost. This model categorizes expressway ETC abnormal data into four distinct classes: missing detections, opposite lane detection, duplicated detection and reverse trajectory detection. ETC transaction data from a southeastern Chinese province were used for experimentation. The results validate the model's effectiveness, achieving an accuracy of 98.14%, a precision of 97.59%, a recall of 95.44%, and an F1-score of 96.49%. Background: The 2020 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China (Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2020 edition) has 255 Chinese prescriptions with different dosage forms, accounting for 21.09% of the total prescriptions (1,209) in Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2020 edition. However, the scientific rationality of the phenomenon of "Different Dosage Forms of the Same Prescription" of Chinese proprietary medicine has been less explored. Based on the dosage form theory of "components in pills release slowly and take effect in slow-acting manner, while in powders release quickly and take effect in fast-acting way," we provided the in vitro dissolution experiment and in vivo pharmacokinetics of Chuanxiong Chatiao powders and pills in order to rationalize the phenomenon of "Different Dosage Forms of the Same Prescription" of Chuanxiong Chatiao prescription. Materials and Methods: Chuanxiong Chatiao powders and pills were prepared in the laboratory referring to the preparation methods in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2020 edition, and the contents of tetramethylpyrazine, ferulic acid, nodakenin, and isoimperatorin were determined by the external standard method. We measured the in vitro dissolution of four analytes of Chuanxiong Chatiao powders and pills according to the second method for dissolution determination (paddle method) in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2020 edition, and their corresponding contents in each sampling point were determined by LC-MS/MS. We also provided a pharmacokinetic study of Chuanxiong Chatiao powders and pills. Six female domestic rabbits were divided into two groups (powder and pill groups) and given Chuanxiong Chatiao powders and pills (9.85 g/kg) by surgical administration separately. Blood samples were collected at 5, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 240, 360, 480, 720, and 1,440 min after drug administration to measure the plasma concentration of the four analytes by LC-MS/MS. Results: The results of in vitro dissolution experiment showed that the dissolution rate of four analytes in the powder group was greater than that of the pill group. However, the solubilities of tetramethylpyrazine and isoimperatorin were very low in the powder and pill, which may be related to their low solubility properties. The results of the in vivo pharmacokinetic study of Chuanxiong Chatiao powders and pills showed that T max (h) of ferulic acid and nodakenin in the powder group was 0.420 and 0.053 times that of the pill group and t 1/2 (h) of ferulic acid, nodakenin, and isoimperatorin of the powder group was 0.910, 0.262, and 0.661 times that of the pill group, respectively. Conclusion: The in vitro dissolution rate and in vivo pharmacokinetic parameters of four analytes in CXCTF could partly explain the scientific rationality of the classic theory of "丸者缓也, 散者散也" as in Chinese, which is helpful for providing a basis for the comparison of subsequent dosage forms. Improvement of water quality has frequently been delayed due to high recycling rates of nutrients across the sediment–water interface in a reservoir. Diffusive fluxes and annual loads of ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) and phosphate (PO43−-P) in sediments from Guanting Reservoir (GTR) were estimated according to their vertical distribution. The average contents of NH4+-N and PO43−-P in surface pore water were higher by factors of 6.9 – 11.7 and 1.3 – 6.4 than those in overlying water, respectively. The ranges of fluxes were 1.59 – 13.0 (mg m2 d−1) for NH4+-N, and 0.002 – 0.196 (mg m2 d−1) for PO43−-P. The annual load contributions from sediments of GTR were 659 t a−1 for NH4+-N and 4.83 t a−1 for PO43−-P. Notably, the upstream of GTR accounted for 50.7% annual loads for NH4+-N, while the downstream contributed 71.2% loads to PO43−-P. • MeHg photodegradation commonly occurs in paddy water during rice growth. • The photodegradation rates are comparable to those found in natural waters. • pH and DOC contents negatively impact MeHG degradation in paddy water. • MeHg photodegradation in paddy water moderately reduces MeHG accumulation in rice. • MeHg photodegradation in paddy water greatly limits its export to downstream systems. Photodegradation is critical to reduce the potent neurotoxic methylmercury (MeHg) in water and its subsequent accumulation along food chains. However, this process has been largely ignored in rice paddies, which are hotspots of MeHg production and receive about a quarter of the world's developed freshwater resources. Here, we reported that significant MeHg photodegradation, primarily mediated by hydroxyl radicals, occurs in the overlying water during rice growth. By incorporating field-measured light interception into a rice paddy biogeochemistry model, as well as photodegradation rates obtained from 42 paddy soils stretching ∼3500 km across China, we estimated that photodegradation reduced MeHg concentrations in paddy water and rice by 82 % and 11 %, respectively. Without photodegradation, paddy water could be a significant MeHg source for downstream ecosystems, with an annual export of 178 − 856 kg MeHg to downstream waters in China, the largest rice producer. There are global concerns about heavy metal (HM) contamination in soils, which in turn has produced an increased demand for soil remediation. Biochar has been widely documented to effectively immobilize metals in contaminated soils and has received increasing attention for use in soil remediation. Here, we review recent progresses in understanding metal-biochar interactions in soils, potential risks associated with biochar amendment, and application of biochar in soil remediation in China. These recent studies indicate that: (1) the remediation effect depends on the characteristics of both biochar and soil and their interactions; (2) biochar applications could decrease the mobility/bioavailability of HMs in soils and HM accumulation in plants; and (3) despite its advantages, biochar applications could pose ecological and health risks, e.g., by releasing toxic substances into soils or by inhalation of biochar dust. Research gaps still exist in the development of practical methods for preparing and applying different biochars that target specific HMs. In the future, the long term effects and security of biochar applications on soil remediation, soil organisms and plant growth need to be considered. Photodegradation is an important pathway for monomethylmercury (MeHg) degradation in aquatic ecosystems. In this process, dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays an essential role. However, little information is available regarding the photo-transformation of MeHg in shallow aquatic environments, where a significant portion of MeHg is associated with soil suspensions. In this study, 14 soils sampled from different sites in China were used to simulate these conditions. Our results clearly demonstrated that soil organic matter (SOM) was the most important factor controlling the MeHg photodegradation in suspension. Degradation in this heterogeneous aqueous system was shown to be mediated by the 1O 2 produced by organic matter on the surface of the soil particles rather than by DOM. This was confirmed by the strong correlation between the kinetics rate constant of MeHg degradation and steady state concentrations of 1O 2 (R 2 = 0.81). Our results propose a new pathway of MeHg induced by sediment soils under sunlight irradiation. Identification of this pathway may improve the estimates of potential ecological risk of Hg in shallow field ecosystems. Methylmercury (MeHg) accumulation in aquatic food raises global concerns about human exposure to MeHg. Crayfish is the world's third largest farmed crustacean species and a favorite aquatic food in many countries. However, human health hazard due to MeHg exposure via crayfish consumption is unclear, partly because appropriate survey data are lacking. We report on mercury concentrations and speciation in edible tail muscle of crayfish collected from restaurants in 23 Chinese cities. On average, MeHg constituted 99.1 % of mercury in tail muscle, and MeHg concentrations were comparable with those reported for fish in China. Variation in MeHg concentrations was not attributable to broad geographic region (i.e., provinces) or tail length. For different populations, potential health risk (characterized by hazard quotient or HQ) of MeHg exposure through crayfish consumption depended largely on crayfish consumption rates. In particular, a health hazard (HQ > 1) was found for high-rate consumers (i.e., 95 %ile or higher) in some cities in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River (MLYR), during the peak consumption season. Systematic investigation on enhancing removal of natural organic matter (NOM) using inorganic polymer flocculant (IPF), polyaluminum chloride (PACL) and polyacrylamide (PAM) was performed in a typical south-China source water. Enhanced coagulation and applying polymer flocculant-aid were compared through jar tests and pilot tests. Raw water and settled water were characterized and fractionated by resin adsorption. The results show that DOC composes major part of TOC. The DOC distribution keeps relatively stable all around the year with typical high amounts of the hydrophilic matter around 50%. The distribution between HoB, HoA and HoN varies and undergoes fluctuation with the year round. During the summer season, the HoN becomes gradually the major part in hydrophobic parts. PACL with the species being tailor-made shows little pH effect during coagulation. The enhanced coagulation dosage for PACL could be 4.5 mg/L for the typical source water. The highest TOC removal achieved 31%. To be economically, 3 mg/L dose is the optimum dosage. Although hydrophilic fractions of NOM of both treatment strategies are removed about 30%, NOM causing UV254. absorbance were well removed(about 90%). Hydrophobic bases and acids fractions are much more removed under enhanced conditions. The hydrophilic fraction could be better removed using PAM, the polymer coagulant aid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The discusses that according to a national-scale survey by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) and the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) of China, the elevated mercury levels in soils could raise ecological and health concerns; and mentions under the context of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, China should take actions to reduce releases of mercury and the related environmental health risks.

Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) is one of the main active ingredients in the fruit of L. barbarum L. It has been used as herbal medicine for thousands of years in China. In this study, Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was taken as the research object. After feeding tilapia with 5 different doses of LBP (0 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg, 1500 mg/kg, 2000 mg/kg) for 55 d, it was found that LBP could promote the growth of tilapia, and this effect was the strongest at Group 1500 mg/kg. Apoptosis analysis in the liver and spleen showed that dietary supplementation with 1000 mg/kg LBP had the best protective effect on the spleen and liver in tilapia. Combined transcriptomics and metabolomics of the spleen in tilapia at Group 0 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg showed that the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) such as NT5C2L1, pmm1, FasL and the differentially metabolites such as xanthine, dGMP, guanine and glutamate were mainly concentrated in signaling pathways such as Purine metabolism and FoxO signaling pathway. In conclusion, LBP regulates the metabolic waste levels of tilapia mainly through Purine metabolism and the FoxO signaling pathway, thereby inhibiting cell apoptosis, improving the utilization of nutrients, and promoting the growth of tilapia. Abstract Eutrophication is a major environmental concern in lake systems, impacting the ecological risks of contaminants and drinking water safety. It has long been believed that eutrophication and thus algal blooms would reduce methylmercury (MeHg) levels in water, as well as MeHg bioaccumulation and trophic transfer (e.g., by growth dilution). In this study, however, we demonstrated that algae settlement and decomposition after algal blooms increased MeHg levels in sediments (54–514% higher), as evidenced by the results from sediments in 10 major lakes in China. These could in turn raise concerns about enhanced trophic transfer of MeHg and deterioration of water quality after algal blooms, especially considering that 9 out of the 10 examined lakes also serve as drinking water sources. The enhanced microbial MeHg production in sediments could be explained by the algal organic matter (AOM)-enhanced abundances of microbial methylators as well as the input of algae-inhabited microbes into sediments, but not Hg speciation in sediments: (1) Several AOM components (e.g., aromatic proteins and soluble microbial by product-like material with generally low molecular weights), rather than the bulk AOM, played key roles in enhancing the abundances of microbial methylators. The copies of Archaea- hgcA methylation genes were 51–397% higher in algae-added sediments; thus, MeHg production was also higher. (2) Input of algal biomass-inhabited microbial methylators contributed to 2–21% of total Archaea- hgcA in the 10 lake sediments with added algal biomass. (3) However, AOM-induced changes in Hg speciation, with implications on Hg availability to microbial methylators, played a minor role in enhancing microbial Hg methylation in sediments as seen in X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) data. Our results suggest the need to better understand the biogeochemistry and risks of contaminants in eutrophic lakes, especially during the period of algae settlement and decomposition following algal blooms. A key factor in autophagy regulating, the genetic polymorphism of MTOR gene is essential. The objective was to explore the associations between MTOR gene polymorphism and MPA susceptibility in a Guangxi population of China. A sum of 208 MPA cases and 209 healthy volunteers from Guangxi in this case-control study, four important single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) loci of MTOR gene including rs3806317, rs1064261, rs1883965 and rs2295080 were examined. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction combined with high-throughput sequencing was performed. Subgroup analysis was evaluated by gender and ethnicity. Linkage disequilibrium and haplotype analysis were tested. Multi-SNPs interaction among mTOR signaling pathway was assessed. For rs2295080, homozygous mutant GG genotype was associated with a decreased susceptibility of MPA in recessive model (OR = 0.38, 95%CI: 0.14–1.00, p = 0.040), particularly in the subgroup of female (OR = 0.16, 95%CI: 0.03–0.74, p = 0.006) and Han population (OR = 0.32, 95%CI: 0.10–1.00, p = 0.034). Individual carrying G allele was linked with decreasing MPA susceptibility in Han population of Guangxi (OR = 0.65, 95%CI: 0.44–0.97, p = 0.036). In haplotype analysis, the haplotype AAT was correlated with increasing susceptibility of MPA (OR = 1.347, 95%CI: 1.004–1.807, p = 0.046). Moreover, in the multi-SNPs interaction analysis, the six-locus model was identified as the best interaction model (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that rs2295080 polymorphism of MTOR gene may be associated with MPA susceptibility in a Guangxi population of China and G allele might be an important protective factor. Abstract: Background: Methadone client retention levels and treatment doses of patients vary widely in methadone clinics across China. Because methadone clinics have been available in China only recently, this study explored the relationship between methadone dosage and client retention in methadone maintenance programmes in Guizhou province. Methods: The study used a prospective cohort study design. Injecting and non-injecting heroin-using clients who had been treated for no more than two and half months in one of eight methadone maintenance treatment clinics in Guizhou province were recruited into the cohort, beginning on 3 June 2006 and followed up until 1 June 2007. A total of 1003 participants were enrolled. Face-to-face interviews were conducted to collect baseline information, and clients’ daily doses were recorded. Results: The 14-month retention rate was 56.2%. Controlling for other covariates in the multivariate Cox model, a higher methadone dose was found to predict higher client retention. Retention was also associated with intention to remain in treatment for life and the clinic attended. Conclusion: Clients need to receive an adequate methadone dose to assure continued retention. Patients who expect to be treated for life have higher retention rates than patients who anticipate only short-term treatment. • Contribution of rice versus fish to metal(loid) exposure were compared in China. • Measured bioaccessibilities in fish were generally higher than those in rice. • Rice consumption contributed dominantly to carcinogenic risks of iAs. • Rice and fish contributed comparatively to non-carcinogenic risk of metal(loid)s. There are global concerns about dietary exposure to metal(loid)s in foods. However, little is known about the relative contribution of rice versus fish to multiple metal(loid) exposure for the general population, especially in Asia where rice and fish are major food sources. We compared relative contributions of rice and fish consumption to multi-metal(loid) exposure on the city-scale (Nanjing) and province-scale in China. The effects of ingestion rate, metal(loid) level, and bioaccessibility were examined to calculate modeled risk from Cu, Zn, total As (TAs), inorganic As (iAs), Se, Cd, Pb, and methylmercury (MeHg). Metal(loid) levels in rice and fish samples collected from Nanjing City were generally low, except iAs. Metal(loid) bioaccessibilities in fish were higher than those in rice, except Se. Calculated carcinogenic risks induced by iAs intake (indicated by increased lifetime cancer risk, ILCR) were above the acceptable level (1 0 −4) in Nanjing City (median: 3 × 10−4 for female and 4 × 10−4 for male) and nine provinces (1.4 × 10−4 to 5.9 × 10−4) in China. Rice consumption accounted for 85.0% to 99.8% of carcinogenic risk. The non-carcinogenic hazard quotients (HQ) for single metals and hazard index (HI) for multi-metal exposure were < 1 in all cases, indicating of their slight non-carcinogen health effects associated. In Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, results showed that rice and fish intake contributed similarly to the HI (i.e., 42.6% vs 57.4% in Guangdong and 54.6% vs 45.4% in Jiangsu). Sensitivity analysis indicated that carcinogenic risk was most sensitive to rice ingestion rate and rice iAs levels, while non-carcinogenic hazard (i.e., HQ and HI) was most sensitive to ingestion rate of fish and rice, and Cu concentration in rice. Our results suggest that rice is more important than fish for human dietary metal(loid) exposure risk in China, and carcinogenic risk from iAs exposure in rice requires particular attention. Unraveling the geochemical and microbial controls on methylmercury (MeHg) dynamics in mangrove sediments is important, as MeHg can potentially pose risks to marine biota and people that rely on these ecosystems. While the important role of sulfate-reducing bacteria in MeHg formation has been examined in this ecologically important habitat, the contribution of non-Hg methylating communities on MeHg production remains particularly unclear. Here, we collected sediment samples from 13 mangrove forests in south China and examined the geochemical parameters and microbial communities related to the Hg methylation. MeHg concentrations were significantly correlated to the OM-related parameters such as organic carbon content, total nitrogen, and dissolved organic carbon concentrations, suggesting the importance of OM in the MeHg production. Sulfate-reducing bacteria were the major Hg-methylators in mangrove sediments. Desulfobacteraceae and Desulfobulbaceae dominated the Hg-methylating microbes. The continuous increase in sulfate (SO 4 2- budgets in freshwater lakes. Here we conducted a field investigation in the lakes along the highly developed Yangtze River basin, China, additionally, we analyzed long-term data (1950-2020) from Lake Taihu, a typical eutrophic lake worldwide. We observed a gradual increase in SO 4 2- concentrations up to 100 mg/L, which showed a positive correlation with the trophic state of the lakes. The annual variations indicated that eutrophication intensified the fluctuation of SO 4 2- concentrations. A random forest model was applied to assess the impact of SO 4 2- concentrations on CH 4 emissions, revealing a significant negative effect. Synchronously, a series of microcosms with added SO 4 2- were established to simulate cyanobacteria decomposition processes and explore the coupling mechanism between sulfate reduction and CH 4 production. The results showed a strong negative correlation between CH 4 concentrations and initial SO 4 2- levels (R 2 = 0.83), indicating that higher initial SO 4 2- concentrations led to lower final CH 4 concentrations. This was attributed to the competition for cyanobacteria-supplied substrates between sulfate reduction bacteria (SRB) and methane production archaea (MPA). The global occurrences of lake eutrophication have led to algal bloom and the subsequent algal decomposition, releasing high amounts of algae-derived dissolved organic matter (DOM) into the lake water. Algae-derived DOM could regulate the quantity and composition of DOM in lake water and further impact the biogeochemical cycles of multiple elements. In this study, the dynamic changes in the quantity and quality of DOM during algal decomposition under different eutrophic scenarios (e.g., from oligotrophication to severe eutrophication) were monitored, and the corresponding environmental effects (e.g., microbial responses and greenhouse gas emissions) caused by algal decomposition were further explored. The results showed that algal decomposition significantly increased the DOM levels, bioavailability, and intensities of fluorescent components in the water. The total DOM levels gradually decreased, whereas the average molecular weight increased along the decomposition process. Furthermore, unsaturated hydrocarbon and aliphatic compounds were preferentially utilized by microorganisms during algal decomposition, and some refractory molecules (e.g., lignin, condensed hydrocarbons, and tannin with high O/C values) were synchronously generated, as evidenced by the results from ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry. The dominant bacterial species during algal decomposition shifted from Proteobacteria (46%) to Bacteroidetes (42%). In addition, algae addition resulted in 1.2-5 times the emissions of CO 2 and CH 4 from water, and the emission rates could be well predicted by the optical index of a 254 in water. This study provides comprehensive perspectives for understanding the environmental behaviors of aquatic DOM and further paves the ways for the mitigation of lake eutrophication.

Methionine restriction reduces animal lipid deposition. However, the molecular mechanism underlying how the body reacts to the condition and regulates lipid metabolism remains unknown. In this study, a feeding trial was performed on rice field eel Monopterus albus with six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic feeds that included different levels of methionine (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 g/kg). Compared with M0 (0 g/kg), the crude lipid and crude protein of M. albus increased markedly in M8 (8 g/kg) ( p < 0.05), serum (total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and non-esterified free fatty acids), and hepatic contents (hepatic lipase, apolipoprotein-A, fatty acid synthetase, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and lipoprteinlipase). However, in the serum, very-low-density lipoprotein and hepatic contents (hormone-sensitive triglyceride lipase, Acetyl CoA carboxylase, carnitine palmitoyltransterase, and mirosomal triglygeride transfer protein) decreased markedly in M8 ( p < 0.05). The contents of hepatic C18:2n-6, C22:6n-3, and n-3PUFA in the M8 group were significantly higher than those in M0 ( p < 0.05), and the contents of lipid droplets in M8 were higher than those in M0. Compared with M0, the hepatic gcn2, eif2α , hsl, mttp, ldlrap, pparα, cpt1 , and cpt2 were remarkably downregulated in M8, while srebf2, lpl, moat2, dgat2, hdlbp, srebf1, fas, fads2, me1, pfae, and icdh were markedly upregulated in M8. Moreover, hepatic SREBP1 and FAS protein expression were upregulated significantly in M8 ( p < 0.01). In short, methionine restriction decreased the lipid deposition of M. albus , especially for hepatic lipid deposition, and mainly downregulated hepatic fatty acid metabolism. Besides, gcn2 could be activated under methionine restriction.

Background: Estimating the risk of lymph node metastasis (LNM) is crucial for determining subsequent treatments following curative resection of early colorectal cancer (ECC). This multicenter study analyzed the risk factors of LNM and the effectiveness of postoperative chemotherapy in patients with ECC., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 473 patients with ECC who underwent general surgery in five hospitals between January 2007 and October 2018. The correlations between LNM and sex, age, tumor size, tumor location, endoscopic morphology, pathology, depth of invasion and tumor budding (TB) were directly estimated based on postoperative pathological analysis. We also observed the overall survival (OS) and recurrence in ECC patients with and without LNM after matching according to baseline measures., Results: In total, 473 ECC patients were observed, 288 patients were enrolled, and 17 patients had LNM (5.90%). The univariate analysis revealed that tumor size, pathology, and lymphovascular invasion were associated with LNM in ECC (P = 0.026, 0.000, and 0.000, respectively), and the multivariate logistic regression confirmed that tumor size, pathology, and lymphovascular invasion were risk factors for LNM (P = 0.021, 0.023, and 0.001, respectively). There were no significant differences in OS and recurrence between the ECC patients with and without LNM after matching based on baseline measures (P = 0.158 and 0.346, respectively), and no significant difference was observed between chemotherapy and no chemotherapy in ECC patients without LNM after surgery (P = 0.729 and 0.052)., Conclusion: Tumor size, pathology, and lymphovascular invasion are risk factors for predicting LNM in ECC patients. Adjuvant chemotherapy could improve OS and recurrence in patients with LNM but not always in ECC patients without LNM.

On the base of the idea of traditional Chinese medicine as "disease prevention", the mode and the protocol of the moxibustion intervention for the group under quarantine after close contact with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were explored. The group under quarantine after close contact with COVID-19 was taken as the subjects. By the non-contact physician-patient communication network platform co-developed by China Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion, Hunan Provincial Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion, Data Center of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Yuge Medicine Company, an exploratory randomized controlled trial was designed. A total of 100 cases were included and randomized into a moxibustion group and a conventional intervention group, 50 cases in each one. In the moxibustion group, moxibustion intervention was used. In the conventional intervention group, the conventional observation was adopted without moxibusiton intervention applied. The outcomes included the symptoms changes, e.g. anxiety, emotional disturbance, fatigue, headache and diarrhea, as well as whether quarantine release and the case confirmed or not, etc. The results were evaluated before intervention, in 14 days of intervention and 2 weeks after intervention separately. In this research, on the base of internet plus technology and with the internet communication platform adopted, through mobile phone WeChat App, it was to implement the subject screen, the random allocation and the instruction of moxibustion intervention as well as the quality control of patient's diary and data collection. It is anticipated that the significance and the implementation mode of moxibustion intervention can be assessed preliminarily for the group under quarantine after close contact with COVID-19.

In order to reduce the phosphorus (P) resource consume, the polyphosphatekinase (ppk)-expressing transgenic rice (ETR) with high utilization efficiency of P fertilizer had been constructed. However, synthesis polyphosphates (polyP) mediated byppkin the plants have the ability of chelating heavy metals, so the potential hazards of the new elite rice variety have raised concerns. In the study, we planted ETR and wild-type Nipponbare (WT) in paddy fields in southern China. After harvest, the concentrations of eight heavy metals in rice tissues were measured, and health risks assessments were performed. The field experiment showed that the ppkexpressions were detected in the roots and straws of ETR plants but did not increase the concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb in rice tissues. The Hg concentration in the ETRD root was 1.70-fold higher than that in WT, but the abundant Hg bioaccumulation in ETRD only occurred in the root. The bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) of all the detected heavy metals in the ETRS were no different from WT except for Cu and Zn. The results of human health risks assessment of heavy metals in brown rice showed that the non-carcinogenic risks of Cu or Zn in ETRD were higher than that in WT, while there was no difference in the total noncarcinogenic risk of the eight heavy metals in ETR. The carcinogenic risks of heavy metals in ETR were also comparable to that in WT. Rice ingestion has been recognized as an important route of dietary exposure to neurotoxic methylmercury (MeHg) that is commonly synthesized in rice paddy soils. Although Hg methylators are known to regulate soil MeHg formation, the effect of non-Hg methylating communities on MeHg production remains unclear. Here, we collected 141 paddy soil samples from main rice-producing areas across China to identify associations between bacterial community composition (including both Hg and putative non-Hg methylators) and MeHg production. Results showed that the MeHg content in the paddy soils varied from 0.11 to 8.36 ng g -1 at a national spatial scale, which could be due to the shifts of soil microbial community composition across different areas. Our structure equation modeling suggested a strong link between bacterial community composition and MeHg content and %MeHg. More importantly, random forest analyses suggested a more significant role of putative non-Hg methylators than Hg methylators in predicting variations of soil MeHg content. The relative abundance of putative non-Hg methylators such as unclassified Xanthomonadales and Chitinophagaceae were strongly correlated with soil MeHg contents. Further, microbial network analysis revealed strong co-occurrence patterns between the putative non-Hg and Hg methylators. These findings highlight an overlooked role of non-Hg methylating communities in predicting MeHg production in paddy soils.

The influence of elemental sulfur (S(0)) amendment on methylmercury (MeHg) accumulation in rice and the chemical form of Hg in the rhizosphere were investigated under waterlogged conditions in Hg-contaminated soil (the majority of the Hg (˜70%) in forms similar to HgS). Different levels of S(0) addition increased the MeHg accumulation in rice. After a sequential extraction analysis of the chemical forms of Hg in the rhizosphere, the results showed that S(0) addition increased the organic bound Hg and decreased the residual Hg in the soils. An Hg L III XANES further showed that S(0) addition increased the proportion of Hg in the form of RS-Hg-SR and decreased the proportion of Hg in the form of HgS, indicating that S(0) input may reactivate the non-bioavailable Hg in the rhizosphere and improve the net Hg methylation. These findings suggest that the application of S fertilizers to Hg-contaminated paddy soils may increase the MeHg concentration in the edible parts of crops, which may lead to more potential health problems in humans depending on the crop type. However, our study also suggests that S(0) addition could be an effective measure for mobilizing the insoluble Hg and accelerating the phytoremediation process in Hg-contaminated paddy soils., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Consumption of rice has been shown to be an important route of dietary exposure to methylmercury (MeHg, a neurotoxin) for Asians having a low fish but high rice diet. Therefore, factors that increase MeHg production and bioaccumulation in soil-rice systems, could enhance the risk of MeHg exposure. On the basis of a national-scale survey in China (64 sites in 12 provinces) and rice cultivation experiments, we report that straw amendment, a globally prevalent farming practice, could increase MeHg concentrations in paddy soils (11-1043%) and rice grains (95%). By carrying out a series of batch incubation, seedling uptake and sand culture experiments, we demonstrate that these increases could be attributed to (1) enhanced abundances/activities of microbial methylators and the transformation of refractory HgS to organic matter-complexed Hg, facilitating microbial Hg methylation in soils; (2) enhanced MeHg mobility, and increased root lengths (35-41%) and tip numbers (60-105%), increasing MeHg uptake by rice roots; and (3) enhanced MeHg translocation to rice grains from other tissues. Results of this study emphasize fresh organic matter-enhanced MeHg production and bioaccumulation, and highlight the increased risk of MeHg after straw amendment and thus the need for new policies concerning straw management.

Systematic studies on enhancing normal treatment processes were performed in order to remove aquatic organic matter economically and efficiently. Enhanced coagulation and polymer coagulant-aid coagulation were compared through jar tests and on-spot experiment (Pilot-scale and full-scale experiment). Fractionations of raw water and water after treatments of above two strategies were performed based on selective adsorption of resin DAX-8. It was found that matters causing UV absorbance at 254 nm were well removed by above two treatments; removals of which could be achieved 90% or more. Hydrophobic bases and acids fractions were more removed under enhanced conditions with removals 66% and 35% respectively; while hydrophilic fraction could be better removed by about 45% using polymer coagulant aids. But the whole removals of the two strategies were almost equal.
