The Chinese guidelines for ultrasound-guided thermal ablation of thyroid nodules (2024 edition) were jointly initiated by the Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Medical Association, the Interventional Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, the Ultrasonic Intervention Committee of Chinese Colleges of Interventionalists, and the Oncological Intervention Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association; 37 multidisciplinary experts in interventional ultrasound, ultrasound medicine, endocrinology, and thyroid surgery participated in the compilation of this guide, which expanded the depth and breadth of the perspective and enhanced the authority of the guide. Based on the systematic review of literature related to ultrasound-guided thermal ablation of thyroid nodules and the professional opinions of experts, the guidelines define the indications and contraindications of thermal ablation, including pre-ablation evaluation and preparation, thermal ablation techniques and operational procedures, post-ablation follow-up, therapeutic effect evaluation, complication prevention and treatment, and the writing of medical documents for ablation. According to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE), a total of 17 objective and comprehensive recommendations were given. The publication and promotion of this guideline will play a positive role in promoting the standardization of ultrasound-guided thermal ablation of thyroid nodules., (Copyright © 2025 The Author(s). Acid mine drainage （AMD） is of great concern owing to its safety hazards and environmental risks. However, little is known about the effects of AMD leakage on soil physicochemical properties and bacterial communities in ecologically fragile desert steppe soils, especially in the soil profile. Therefore, an AMD-contaminated profile and clean profile were used as research objects respectively to investigate the effects of AMD on soil physicochemical properties and bacterial community composition, structure, and interactions in soil layers at different depths of desert grassland and, based on this, to analyze the driving factors of bacterial community changes. The results showed that AMD significantly decreased the pH and increased electrical conductivity （EC） and heavy metal content in the upper （0-40 cm） soil layer of the profile. The AMD-contaminated profile bacteria were dominated by Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacterota, whereas clean profile bacteria were dominated by Firmicutes and Bacteroidota, with Thermithiobacillus and Alloprevotella being the biomarkers for the contaminated and clean profiles, respectively. AMD contamination significantly reduced bacterial diversity and significantly altered bacterial community structure in the upper soil layers of the profile. The results of redundancy analysis showed that soil physicochemical properties explained 57.21% of the variation in bacterial community changes, with EC, TP, TN, As, Zn, and Pb being the main drivers of bacterial community changes. Network analyses showed that AMD contamination increased profile complexity, modularity, and intra-community competition, thereby improving bacterial community stability and resilience. In conclusion, the study provided useful information on the effects of AMD pollution on soil physicochemical properties and bacterial communities in desert steppe soils, which may help to improve the understanding of the ecological hazards of AMD pollution on soils in extreme habitats.

The TIR domain-containing adaptor inducing IFN-β (TRIF) is an adaptor molecule that plays a critical role in the Toll-like receptors (TLRs)-mediated innate immune signaling pathway. Lamprey, as the most primitive jawless vertebrate, rely mainly on innate immunity to defend against various pathogens infection. The function of TRIF in lamprey remains unknown. In this study, a homologous adaptor molecule TRIF, named LmTRIF, was identified in Northeast Chinese lamprey (Lethenteron morii). The LmTRIF coding sequence (cds) is 1242 bp in length and encodes 413 amino acids (aa). Domain analysis showed that LmTRIF is characterized with the classical TIR domain and a lack of TRAF6 binding motif. The results of evolutionary tree indicated that the relationship between LmTRIF and other homologous proteins was consistent with the position of lamprey in the species evolutionary history. The relative expression of LmTRIF was highest in the liver of larvae and in the gill of adults, respectively. Cellular immunofluorescence assays showed that LmTRIF was expressed in the cytoplasma in both mammalian cell line HEK 293T and the fish cell line EPC. The double luciferase reporter gene assay showed that the overexpression of LmTRIF promoted the activity of NF-κB, an immune transcription factor downstream of the classical TLR signaling pathway. In this study, we identified the TLR adaptor molecule TRIF from L. morii, a vertebrate more primitive than fish. Our results suggested an important role of LmTRIF in the innate immune signal transduction process of L. morii and is the basis for the origin and evolution of the TLR signaling pathway in the innate immune system in vertebrates., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) caused by Leishmania spp. is an important vector-borne disease prevalent in China. VL was rampant in the vast area of China north of the Yangtze River before the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. As a result of strenuous interventions, the disease was basically eliminated in most of the former epidemic areas in 1958-60. At present, only sporadic cases occur in the western regions of China. In the process, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases at China CDC and the Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research (NIPD-CTDR) have achieved great impact in controlling the diseases as well as in research on Leishmania spp. This review summarized the contribution of experts from NIPD-CTDR to the control and elimination of VL in various aspects, such as understanding the epidemiological features of VL, confirmation of VL vectors and their distribution, development of control tools including diagnostics and insecticides, monitoring and evaluation supported by information management, technical supports to the control programmes, as well as analysis of the challenges faced. Lycocasuarines I-Q (1-9), nine new lycodine-type Lycopodium alkaloids were isolated from the aerial parts of Lycopodiastrum casuarinoides (Spring) Holub ex R.D.Dixit. Their structures were unambiguously determined via extensive spectroscopic analyses, including HRESIMS, NMR, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD). The new alkaloids were evaluated for their in vitro inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Background: Continuous vector pathogen surveillance is essential for preventing outbreaks of mosquito-borne diseases. Several mosquito species acting as vectors of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), dengue virus, Zika virus, malaria parasites and other pathogens are primary mosquito species in Shanghai, China. However, few surveys of human pathogenic arboviruses in mosquitoes in Shanghai have been reported in the last ten years. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated mosquito activity in Shanghai, China during 2016 and tested for the presence of alphaviruses, flaviviruses, orthobunyaviruses and several parasitic pathogens., Results: Five pooled samples were JEV-positive [4/255 pools of Culex tritaeniorhynchus and 1/256 pools of Cx. pipiens (s.l.)] based on analysis of the NS5 gene. Alphaviruses, orthobunyaviruses, Plasmodium and filariasis were not found in this study. Phylogenetic and molecular analyses revealed that the JEV strains belonged to genotype I. Moreover, newly detected Shanghai JEV strains were genetically close to previously isolated Shandong strains responsible for transmission during the 2013 Japanese encephalitis (JE) outbreak in Shandong Province, China but were more distantly related to other Shanghai strains detected in the early 2000s. The E proteins of the newly detected Shanghai JEV strains differed from that in the live attenuated vaccine SA14-14-2-derived strain at six amino residues: E130 (Ile→Val), E222 (Ala→Ser), E327 (Ser→Thr), E366 (Arg→Ser/Pro), E393 (Asn→Ser) and E433 (Val→Ile). However, no differences were observed in key amino acid sites related to antigenicity. Minimum JEV infection rates were 1.01 and 0.65 per 1000 Cx. tritaeniorhynchus and Cx. pipiens (s.l.), respectively., Conclusions: Five new Shanghai JEV genotype I strains, detected after a ten-year hiatus in local mosquito surveillance, were genetically close to strains involved in the 2013 Shandong JE outbreak. Because JEV is still circulating, vaccination in children should be extensively and continuously promoted. Moreover, JEV mosquito surveillance programmes should document the genotype variation, intensity and distribution of circulating viruses for use in the development and implementation of disease prevention and control strategies.

Background: During the past six decades, remarkable success on malaria control has been made in China. The major experience could be shared with other malaria endemic countries including Tanzania with high malaria burden. Especially, China's 1-3-7 model for malaria elimination is one of the most important refined experiences from many years' efforts and key innovation measures for malaria elimination in China., Methods: The China-UK-Tanzania pilot project on malaria control was implemented from April, 2015 to June, 2018, which was an operational research with two communities receiving the proposed interventions and two comparable communities serving as control sites. The World Health Organization "Test, Treat, Track" (WHO-T3) Initiative, which calls for every suspected case to receive a diagnostic test, every confirmed case to be treated, and for the disease to be tracked, was integrated with Chinese experiences on malaria control and elimination for exploration of a proper model tailored to the local settings. Application of China's 1-3-7 model integrating with WHO-T3 initiative and local resources aiming at reducing the burden of malaria in terms of morbidity and mortality by 30% in the intervention communities in comparison with that at the baseline survey., Discussion: The China-UK-Tanzania pilot project on malaria control was that at China's first pilot project on malaria control in Africa, exploring the feasibility of Chinese experiences by China-Africa collaboration, which is expected that the strategies and approaches used in this project could be potential for scaling up in Tanzania and African countries, and contribute to the acceleration of malaria control and elimination in Africa.

Objective: To study serum HCV antibody (anti-HCV) with geographic distribution characteristics in Zhejiang Province. Methods: A stratified random cluster sampling method was used. Serum samples of the surveyed population were collected from selected hospitals, anti-HCV antibodies were examined, then hepatitis C infection rates among different genders, regions and age groups were analyzed. The anti-HCV rate was compared using the χ (2) test. Results: The average anti-HCV positive rate in Zhejiang Province was 0.24% [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.16% ~ 0.32%]. The antibody positive rate in the plain area was 0.32% (95% CI: 0.19% ~ 0.45%), which was significantly higher than the coastal islands 0.05%(95% CI: 0.00% ~ 0.12%, χ (2) = 7.638, P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between plain area and hilly area 0.22% (95% CI: 0.03% - 0.41%). There was no statistically significant difference in anti-HCV positive rates between males and females ( χ (2) = 2.238, P = 0.135). The highest positive rate of anti-HCV (0.93%) was in the population aged 56-60 years and the lowest in the population aged less than 20 years. Anti-HCV positive rate of all age groups in 2017 was lower than that of 2006 seroepidemiological study of hepatitis C. Conclusion: Zhejiang Province is a region with low anti-HCV positive rate and the disease prevalence further reduced than 10 years ago. The positive rate of anti-HCV in plain areas is higher than islands. Middle-aged and elderly people are the age group with high prevalence, and the anti-HCV positive rate in people under 20 years old is exceptionally low. Gender differences in anti-HCV positive rate have little effect.

Non-syndromic oral clefts (NSOC) are among the most common birth defects. The prevalence of NSOC is 1.13-1.30 per 1 000 live births in China, which is higher than those in other major ethnic groups. The etiology of NSOC is complex and heterogeneous, which involves both genetic and environmental risk factors. Although genome-wide association studies have identified a number of risk loci, these loci can only account for a small proportion of the heritability of NSOC. The next-generation sequencing research provides new ideas for further exploring the genetic risk factors of NSOC. This paper summaries the progress in the next-generation sequencing research of NSOC.

A high fosfomycin resistance rate was observed in Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae (KPC-KP) in our previous study, but little is known about its mechanisms. In this study, we explored the prevalence of plasmid-mediated fosfomycin resistance determinants among fosfomycin-resistant KPC-KP strains from a Chinese university hospital and determined the complete sequence of a novel fosA3-carrying plasmid isolated from an epidemic K. pneumoniae sequence type (ST) 11 strain. A total of 97 KPC-KP strains were studied, of which 57 (58.8%) were resistant to fosfomycin, including 44 (45.4%) harboring fosA3 and 1 harboring fosA. All fosA3-positive strains belonged to the dominant ST11-pulse type (PT) A clone according to multilocus sequence typing and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, suggesting clonal dissemination. The fosA-positive isolate belonged to ST11-PTE. The fosA3-carrying plasmid pKP1034 is 136,848 bp in length and is not self-transmissible. It is a multireplicon plasmid belonging to IncR-F33:A-: B-. Besides fosA3, a variety of other resistance determinants, including blaKPC-2, rmtB, blaCTX-M-65, and blaSHV-12, are identified in pKP1034, which would allow for coselection of fosA3 by most β-lactams and/or aminoglycosides and facilitate its dissemination despite limited use of fosfomycin in China. Detailed comparisons with related plasmids revealed that pKP1034 is highly mosaic and might have evolved from alarming recombination of the blaKPC-2-carrying plasmid pKPC-LK30 from Taiwan and the epidemic fosA3-carrying plasmid pHN7A8 from mainland China., (Copyright © 2016, American Society for Microbiology. Background: Hemodynamic stability is one of the most critical concerns during induction of anesthesia. Whether the pharmacokinetic model by Marsh or the one by Schnider will produce better hemodynamic stability remains unclear. This study compared hemodynamic changes during induction between the two models., Methods: 60 patients who underwent elective surgery were randomly assigned to plasma target-controlled infusion by Marsh's (n = 30) or Schnider's (n = 30) model with an initial target concentration of 4 μg×mL-1. The target was then reset and gradually titrated to a sedation level with a narcotrend index (NI) below 64. Stroke volume, cardiac output, systemic vascular resistance, arterial pressure, target, and effect site concentration, and dose of propofol infused were recorded every minute during the first 25 minutes of infusion., Results: Throughout the first 25 minutes, stroke volume index and cardiac index were decreased significantly in both Marsh and Schnider groups, but no statistical difference was detected between the groups (p > 0.05). Central venous pressure (CVP), systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI), and heart rate (HR) did not significantly change during induction (p > 0.05). Time to loss of responsiveness (LOR), and time for NI to decrease to 64 was faster in Marsh than in Schnider (1.51 ± 0.8 minutes vs. 2.8 ± 1.2 min, p < 0.001; 3.3 ± 2.0 minutes vs. 5.2 ± 2.3 minutes, p < 0.01, respectively)., Conclusions: When target concentrations are titrated according to NI during induction of anesthesia, Marsh's model could induce sedation faster than Schnider's. Meanwhile, hemodynamic changes were not observed to be statistically different between the two models. Hypotension induced by plasma target-controlled infusion of propofol could mainly be attributed to decreased stroke volume instead of vascular dilation.

Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) is an important molecule in the regulation of T cells, so the CTLA-4 gene has been considered as a strong candidate associated with T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). CTLA-4 has many variants and polymorphic forms, among which the +49A/G polymorphism, causing a non-synonymous substitution, has been studied most. However, previous studies of the association between the +49A/G polymorphism of the CTLA-4 gene and RA have provided conflicting results. The aim of this study was to determine the potential relationship of the CTLA-4 +49A/G polymorphism and the risk of RA in Chinese Han population. TaqMan assay was used to genotype the +49A/G polymorphism in 1,489 RA patients and 1,200 healthy controls. Furthermore, a meta-analysis of all studies relating this polymorphism in Chinese population to the risk of RA was performed. The genotype and allele frequencies of the CTLA-4 +49A/G in patients with RA differed significantly from those of controls (P = 0.03 and P = 0.007, respectively). The meta-analysis also revealed that the CTLA-4 +49G allele was associated with an increased risk of RA in Chinese population. Our results suggested that the CTLA-4 gene might contribute to the pathogenesis of RA, and the +49A/G polymorphism of this gene was a risk factor associated with increased RA susceptibility in Chinese Han population.
