Objectives: To explore the postoperative kinesophobia of patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and its related factors. Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention is an effective method to treat coronary heart disease (CHD), and cardiac rehabilitation is an important auxiliary method after PCI. However, the compliance of patients with cardiac rehabilitation after PCI is not good, among which kinesophobia is an important influencing factor. Design: A descriptive cross‐sectional design was implemented, and the high‐quality reporting of the study adhered to the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology Statement. Methods: In total, 351 inpatients who underwent PCI in three tertiary grade‐A hospitals in China were selected by convenient sampling method. We use one‐way ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis to determine the relevant related factors. Results: The kinesophobia of patients after PCI was negatively correlated with chronic illness resource utilization and sense of personal mastery, and positively correlated with illness perception. Education level, clinical classification of CHD, exercise habits, chronic illness resource utilization, illness perception and sense of personal mastery entered the regression equation, which could explain 78.1% of the total variation. Conclusion: The level of kinesiophobia of patients after PCI is high. Education level, clinical classification of CHD, exercise habits, chronic illness resource utilization, illness perception and sense of personal mastery are the related factors of kinesiophobia of patients after PCI. Relevance to Clinical Practice: By reducing the level of exercise fear of patients after PCI, patients are more likely to accept and adhere to the cardiac rehabilitation plan, thus improving their prognosis and improving their quality of life. Aim(s) Design Methods Results Conclusions Impact Reporting Method Patient or Public Contribution To explore the mediating role of coping styles in the association between illness perception and kinesiophobia in atrial fibrillation patients.A cross‐sectional survey.Between June 2021 and November 2022, data were collected using a self‐designed demographic questionnaire, the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart (TSK‐SV Heart) and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ). The sample comprised 474 atrial fibrillation patients recruited from three hospitals in China. To analyse the data, multiple linear regression models with forced entry were employed, and the mediation Mode 4 of the PROCESS macro in SPSS was implemented.In total, 57.8% of patients exhibited a high level of kinesiophobia. Regression analyses uncovered associations between kinesiophobia and various demographic and disease characteristics, as well as assessments of both illness perception and coping styles. Path analysis results indicated that illness perception reduced kinesiophobia through the mediating effect of confrontation, while avoidance and resignation intensified kinesiophobia. The mediating factor of coping styles explained a significant 53% of the overall effect.Coping styles mediate the relationship between illness perception and kinesiophobia, resulting in a shift in coping styles as illness perception decreases and ultimately leading to reduced kinesiophobia.Coping styles play a mediating role in the relationship between kinesiophobia and illness perception. The results suggest healthcare providers in identifying high‐risk individuals and tailoring interventions to effectively break the vicious cycle of kinesiophobia. Exercise is significantly beneficial for patients with osteoporosis. However, physiological and psychological factors such as pain and kinesiophobia prevent patients from participating in exercise. Therefore, it is important to understand how these patients perceive participation in exercise. This qualitative study was conducted in China using conventional content analysis. Using a purposeful sampling method, 17 patients with primary osteoporosis were recruited. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview and managed using ATLAS.ti 21. Nine generic categories were developed from 26 subcategories and two main categories were identified: Barriers and facilitators, support systems, network resources, positive emotions, and reactions were the facilitators for exercise in this study. In addition, mindful exercise was positively viewed by the patients. Inefficient awareness, weak support systems, and burdens were identified as barriers. Purpose: To examine whether exercise self-efficacy mediates the contributions of pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia to exercise adherence in patients after total knee arthroplasty.Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study design was conducted. A total 211 post-total knee arthroplasty patients were recruited from three orthopedics units of a tertiary hospital in China. Participants were invited to complete questionnaires on pain catastrophizing, kinesiophobia, exercise self-efficacy, and exercise adherence. Mplus 8.3 software was used to construct mediation models.Results: Pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia were negatively correlated with exercise adherence (r = − 0.509, r = − 0.605, p < 0.001 respectively), while exercise self-efficacy were positively associated with exercise adherence (r = 0.799, p < 0.001). The results found exercise self-efficacy mediated the correlations of pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia with exercise adherence after adjusting for demographic and clinical covariates. Pain catastrophizing indirectly affected patients' exercise adherence through its effect on exercise efficacy (indirect effect: − 0.412), while Kinesiophobia is directly associated with exercise adherence and also indirectly through exercise self-efficacy (direct effect: − 0.184, indirect effect: − 0.415).Conclusion: Patients after total knee arthroplasty who have high levels of psychological distress (pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia) are vulnerable to be non-adherent to exercise behaviors. Exercise self-efficacy explains the effects of pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia on exercise adherence and may be a key target for measures to improve exercise behaviors in patients after total knee arthroplasty. Background: Kinesiophobia is one of the most common and aversive psychological phenomena among patients after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to identify trajectories of kinesiophobia, examine factors distinguishing these trajectories, and clarify the association between trajectories of kinesiophobia and rehabilitation outcomes. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, the patients who underwent TKA were recruited between December 2021 and April 2022 from three orthopedic wards of a tertiary hospital in China. Kinesiophobia was measured using the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia at baseline (T0), and then at 1 month (T1) and 3 months (T2) after TKA to perform latent class growth analysis. Meanwhile, rehabilitation outcomes were assessed at 3 months after TKA, using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, the Hospital for Special Surgery-Knee Scale, Barthel Index, and the Impact on Participation and Autonomy questionnaire. Results: The four kinesiophobia trajectories identified were as follows: low stable group (n = 120), rapid recovering group (n = 31), slow recovering group (n = 48), and stable moderate group (n = 58). Body mass index, employment status, heart disease, and pain degree significantly predicted trajectory groups (all p < 0.05). Analysis of variance revealed significant differences between the four kinesiophobia trajectories concerning all rehabilitation outcomes, except for the activities of daily living. Conclusion: Distinct kinesiophobia trajectories were identified, and nurses should assess the kinesiophobia of patients after TKA in the early phase. Patients in the slow recovering group are worthy of a specific focus because of their poor recovery after undergoing TKA. Aim: To determine differences in kinesiophobia levels among COPD patients at different time points 6 months after discharge；To identify potential subgroups of COPD patients who perceived different levels of kinesiophobia over time；and to evaluate differences in identified subgroups based on demographic and disease‐related characteristics Design: An observational longitudinal study. Methods: OPD patients hospitalized in respiratory department of a grade A hospital in Huzhou city from October 2021 to May 2022 were selected as the research objects. TSK scale was used to evaluate the level of kinesiophobia at discharge (T1), 1 month after discharge (T2), 4 months after discharge (T3) and 6 months after discharge (T4). The kinesiophobia level scores at different time points were compared using latent class growth modelling. ANOVA and Fisher's exact tests were used to test differences in demographic characteristics，and univariate analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis were used to explore the influencing factors. Results: During the first 6 months after discharge, kinesiophobia levels decreased significantly in the entire sample of COPD patients. The best‐fitting group‐based trajectory model described three distinctive trajectories: Low kinesiophobia group (31.4% of sample); Medium kinesiophobia group (43.4% of sample)；and High kinesiophobia group (25.2% of sample). Logistic regression results showed that sex, age, course of disease, pulmonary function, education level, BMI, the level of pain, MCFS and mMRC were influencing factors of kinesiophobia trajectory in COPD patients (p < 0.05). Aim: The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship among kinesiophobia, self‐efficacy and self‐management behaviour related to physical activity (SMBPA) in Chinese patients with coronary heart disease(CHD) and the mediating role of self‐efficacy between kinesiophobia and SMBPA in Chinese patients with CHD. Design: A cross‐sectional study. Methods: From March to July 2021, 540 Chinese patients with CHD were investigated with three scales using convenient sampling method. The data were analysed with Pearson correlation, univariate analysis, multivariate linear regression and the PROCESS macro. Results: 509 valid questionnaires were collected (effective response rate: 94.2%). Low kinesiophobia and high self‐efficacy were related to high‐levels of SMBPA (all p <.01). To explore relationships among low back pain knowledge, fall fear, exercise self-efficacy and kinesiophobia in pregnant women with pregnancy-related low back pain (PLBP) through a chain mediating model. This study used a cross-sectional survey and utilized convenience sampling from August to December 2023 at a third-class hospital in Wuxi, China. A total of 325 PLBP pregnant women were chosen as the subjects of this study. Sociodemographics and information about low back pain knowledge, low back pain knowledge, fall fear, exercise self-efficacy, and kinesiophobia were collected. Path analysis was used to analyze the cross-sectional data. The results of this study found that low back pain knowledge can directly affect kinesiophobia (β = -0.489, p < 0.001). Fall fear and exercise self-efficacy play a significant mediating role between low back pain knowledge and kinesiophobia, with an overall mediating effect value of 0.202. After including fall fear and exercise self-efficacy, the direct effect value of low back pain knowledge on kinesiophobia was - 0.287. Low back pain knowledge in PLBP pregnant women can significantly and negatively predict their kinesiophobia. Objective: To investigate the potential classification of kinesiophobia in patients after cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation from a psychosocial perspective, and analyse the characteristic differences among different latent levels of patients., Study Design: This is a cross-sectional study of Chinese adults after cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation, aged 18 years and older, recruited from a tertiary hospital in North China., Methods: This study uses latent profile analysis to identify potential classifications of kinesiophobia in questionnaires from 348 patients undergoing cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the influencing factors at different latent classifications., Results: The average performance of each indicator in Model 3 is best suited for analysis, Entropy=0.873 and bootstrap likelihood ratio test (p)＜0.0001. The result of regression equation shows postoperative time (p<0.001), age, self-efficacy, pain and social support level (p<0.05) were the factors influencing the potential profile classification of patients after cardiac surgery under extracorporeal circulation., Conclusion: The study identified three distinct classifications of patients: the low kinesiophobia group, the moderate kinesiophobia-high-risk perceived symptoms group and the high kinesiophobia-high exercise avoidance group (HK-HEAG). Addressing kinesiophobia, especially in older male patients during the early postoperative period, is crucial. Enhancing self-efficacy seems effective in reducing kinesiophobia, while increasing social support may not be as beneficial for the HK-HEAG. Background: Dyspnea-related kinesiophobia refers to restrictions or avoidance of activities due to fear of dyspnea and is prevalent among older adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Hence, there is a need to identify subgroups of dyspnea-related kinesiophobia among older adults with COPD to support the development of strategies to increase activity levels., Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate dyspnea-related kinesiophobia among older adults with COPD, explore heterogeneity in kinesiophobia within subgroups of this population, and analyze the characteristics of different subgroups of kinesiophobia., Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted from November to December 2023 in Fenyang City, Shanxi Province, China, via face-to-face questionnaire surveys of hospitalized adults with COPD aged over 60 years in four secondary or tertiary hospitals. The Breathlessness Beliefs Questionnaire (BBQ) was used to measure dyspnea-related kinesiophobia. Latent profile analysis was employed to classify the subgroups. CChi-square tests and binary logistic regression were used to examine the effects of sociodemographic factors, marital status, education, income, daily activities, general health, and COPD severity across different profiles., Results: A total of 384 older adults with COPD (Male N = 228, aged 60-88) were included in the study. Their average BBQ score was (39.15±5.59). Latent profile analysis identified two groups: 230 participants (59.9 %) in the low-level kinesiophobia group (C1) and 154 participants (40.1 %) in the high-level kinesiophobia group (C2). Multivariable stepwise binary logistic regression analysis revealed that older adults with COPD who engaged in exercise less than three days weekly reported an average monthly household income of <3000 CNY, unmarried status (including unmarried, divorced, or widowed), a Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) >1, more than three exacerbations within one year or with moderate (GOLD 2 Criteria)-severe (GOLD3) COPD were more likely to be the high-level kinesiophobia group (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Dyspnea-related kinesiophobia manifests in two groups among older adults. Kinesiophobia is related with adverse outcomes in various diseases, but it has not been studied in chronic heart failure (CHF). Fatigue often causes movement avoidance in CHF patients, and thereby, leads to a worsening of condition and increasing severity of symptom burden. The purpose of this study was to explore kinesiophobia and its related factors and the relationship between the kinesiophobia and fatigue in CHF patients. We recruited (n = 236) inpatients with CHF from October 2020 to March 202 I and administered a self-designed demographic questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart (TSK-Heart-C), and the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20), and collected related electronic medical record data. Findings revealed that 63% of participants had kinesiophobia. There was a moderate correlation between fatigue and kinesiophobia (r=.49, p <.01). Educational background, monthly family income, disease course, and fatigue explained 41%of the variance in kinesiophobia, of which fatigue independently accounted for 9%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Kinesiophobia, an irrational fear-avoidance behaviour, can significantly impact the quality of life and prognosis of peritoneal dialysis patients. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of kinesiophobia in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis and to analyse its influencing factors., Methods: A total of 291 patients who visited the outpatient and ward of peritoneal dialysis in 7 tertiary hospitals in Jiangsu Province from December 2023 to March 2024 were selected as research subjects via the convenience sampling method. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a general data questionnaire, the Tampa Kinesiophobia-11 Scale, the Chinese Version of the Multidimensional Fatigue Symptom Scale, and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire., Results: The score obtained using the Tampa Scale for kinesiophobia in patients with peritoneal dialysis was 22.44 ± 7.46, with a prevalence rate of 69.1%. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that no complications, daily exercise before illness, and positive coping styles were protective factors (p < 0.05), whereas fatigue and negative coping styles were risk factors for kinesiophobia in patients receiving peritoneal dialysis (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: The prevalence of kinesiophobia in patients receiving peritoneal dialysis was high but at a mild level. Objective: To examine the phenomenon of pain catastrophizing among the principal caregivers of postoperative children with malignant bone tumors and explore its impact on pain perception and kinesiophobia in children., Design: A cross-sectional study design., Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted among 140 children with malignant bone tumors and their principal caregivers, who were admitted to a tertiary hospital in Shanghai from 2020 to 2023. Pearson's univariate and multiple regression analyses were conducted. The questionnaire included general data, the Parental Pain Catastrophizing Scale, the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire, and the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia., Results: The frequency of pain catastrophizing for the principal caregivers was 16.8%. The frequency of kinesiophobia in children was 93.1%. The level of pain catastrophizing was positively correlated with the level of kinesiophobia and pain perception (r = 0.556, 0.614, p < 0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the level of pain catastrophizing in principal caregivers was an important factor of kinesiophobia in children (B = 0.370, Std. = 0.119, Wald = 9.687, Ex (P) = 1.448, p = 0.002). Purpose: Kinesiophobia refers to an irrational fear of physical activities or functional exercise due to the fear of pain or reinjury. Cancer patients who undergo esophagectomy are prone to developing kinesiophobia, which adversely affects their disease prognosis and quality of life. Somatic symptoms are closely related to kinesiophobia, but the mechanisms underlying this relationship remain unclear. Therefore, the current study aimed to explore the chain-mediation roles of intrusive rumination and avoidant coping in the relationship between somatic symptoms and kinesiophobia in cancer patients who underwent esophagectomy., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in China from February 2023 to December 2023. A total of 279 postesophagectomy cancer patients were evaluated using the Symptom Check List 90 (SCL-90), Event Related Rumination Inventory (ERRI), Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ), and Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-11)., Results: Kinesiophobia was significantly positively correlated with somatic symptoms, intrusive rumination, and avoidant coping (p < 0.001). Somatic symptoms had a direct association with kinesiophobia (β = 0.280, 95% CI (0.200, 0.360), p < 0.001). Furthermore, our model showed that somatic symptoms had a significant indirect association with kinesiophobia through the separate mediating effects of intrusive rumination (β = 0.204, 95% CI (0.145, 0.267), p < 0.001) and avoidant coping (β = 0.049, 95% CI (0.019, 0.088), p < 0.001), as well as through the chain-mediated effects of intrusive rumination-avoidant coping (β = 0.026, 95% CI (0.012, 0.044), p < 0.001)., Conclusions: The findings of this study suggested that intrusive rumination and avoidant coping play separate and chain-mediated roles in the relationship between somatic symptoms and kinesiophobia in postesophagectomy cancer patients., (© 2024. Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate how kinesiophobia and self-efficacy explain the relationship between fatigue and physical activity (PA) in post-coronary artery bypass grafting (post-CABG) patients over the age of 45., Design: A prospective multicentre and cross-sectional study., Setting: The study was conducted in four public tertiary hospitals in China., Participants: A total of 1278 patients who underwent CABG surgery were selected from the case pool, with their surgeries occurring between 3 and 19 months prior to selection. Out of 1038 patients who met the inclusion criteria and were invited to participate in the study, 759 patients agreed to participate and complete the questionnaire. Ultimately, 376 questionnaires were deemed eligible and included in the analysis., Primary and Secondary Outcome Measures: The questionnaire included the following scales: the Chinese version of the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20), the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart (TSK-SV Heart), the Cardiac Exercise Self-Efficacy Instrument (CESEI) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Long (IPAQ-L). A serial mediation model was used to test whether the association between fatigue and PA was mediated by kinesiophobia and self-efficacy, in the overall sample and subsamples defined by age., Results: The results confirmed that fatigue was directly (95% CI (-5.73 to -3.02)) associated with PA. Higher kinesiophobia (95% CI (-0.16 to -0.05)) or lower PA self-efficacy (95% CI (-0.11 to -0.02)) were parallel pathways through which higher fatigue impediment reduced PA levels. In both subgroups, the street pathways of kinesiophobia and self-efficacy were altered. In the age, 45-60 years group, kinesiophobia (Boot 95% CI (-0.19 to-0.05)) was a mediator of fatigue on PA levels, while in the 61-75 years age group, self-efficacy (Boot 95% CI (-0.17 to -0.04)) was a mediator of fatigue on PA levels., Conclusions: A clear relationship between fatigue and PA was mediated by both kinesiophobia and self-efficacy. Furthermore, our findings highlight the importance of adapting the intervention according to the age of the patients, mainly by reducing patients' kinesiophobia in patients aged 45-60 years and increasing patients' self-efficacy in patients aged 61-75 years. Aim: To explore the prevalence of kinesiophobia in older patients with primary osteoporosis and analyze its influencing factors., Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 221 older patients with primary osteoporosis in a general hospital in Kunming, China. Data were collected through a sociodemographic-clinical questionnaire, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11), Global Pain Scale (GPS), Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire-Short Form (FFMQ-SF), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). SPSS 27.0 software was utilized for univariate and binary logistic regression analyses., Results: The findings revealed that the prevalence of kinesiophobia in this study was 57.01 %. Age, history of fractures, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lumbar disc herniation, chronic pain, mindfulness, anxiety, and depression were identified as significant influencing factors of kinesiophobia in the binary logistic regression analyses., Conclusion: Healthcare professionals should be attentive to occurrence of kinesiophobia. Background: Physical activity (PA) is essential and effective for chronic heart failure (CHF) patients. A greater understanding of the longitudinal change in PA and its influencing factors during the postdischarge transition period may help create interventions for improving PA. The aims of this study were (1) to compare the change in PA, (2) to examine the influencing factors of PA change, and (3) to verify the mediating pathways between influencing factors and PA during the postdischarge transition period in CHF patients., Methods: A total of 209 CHF patients were recruited using a longitudinal study design. The Chinese version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), Patient-reported Outcome Measure for CHF (CHF-PRO), and the Chinese version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart (TSK-Heart) were used to assess PA, CHF-related symptoms, and kinesiophobia. The IPAQ score was calculated (1) at admission, (2) two weeks after discharge, (3) two months after discharge, and (4) three months after discharge. Two additional questionnaires were collected during admission. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) models were fitted to identify variables associated with PA over time. We followed the STROBE checklist for reporting the study., Results: The PA scores at the four follow-up visits were 1039.50 (346.50-1953.00) (baseline/T1), 630.00 (1.00-1260.00) (T2), 693.00 (1-1323.00) (T3) and 693.00 (160.88-1386.00) (T4). The PA of CHF patients decreased unevenly, with the lowest level occurring two weeks after discharge, and gradually improving at two and three months after discharge. CHF-related symptoms and kinesiophobia were significantly associated with changes in PA over time. Compared with before hospitalization, an increase in CHF-related symptoms at two weeks and two months after discharge was significantly associated with decreased PA. According to our path analysis, CHF-related symptoms were positively and directly associated with kinesiophobia, and kinesiophobia was negatively and directly related to PA. Moreover, CHF-related symptoms are indirectly related to PA through kinesiophobia., Conclusion: PA changed during the postdischarge transition period and was associated with CHF-related symptoms and kinesiophobia in CHF patients. Reducing CHF-related symptoms helps improve kinesiophobia in CHF patients. Objective: This study is designed to investigate the status of kinesiophobia and related factors in cancer patients with totally implantable venous access ports (TIAPs)., Methods: This is a cross-sectional study; all the participants were recruited from the Oncology Department and the Daytime Chemotherapy Center, Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, from April 1 to May 31, 2021. The participants were interviewed by researchers using the self-made general information questionnaire and the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) scale, which allows the fear of movement to be quantified. Eligible patients were aged ≥ 18 years, confirmed with cancer, and implanted with a port. The logistic regression model was used to evaluate clinical factors and the risk of kinesiophobia., Results: A total of 282 patients were recruited (aged 58.0 ± 11.5 years), of which gastrointestinal cancer accounted for 54.6%, breast cancer accounted for 22.7%, lung cancer accounted for 11.3%, and other types accounted for 11.3%. The TSK-11 score of the 282 patients was 17.84 ± 6.06 points, 45.7% of the patients reported mild kinesiophobia (TSK-11 ≥ 18), 18.4% of the patients reported moderate to severe kinesiophobia (TSK-11 ≥ 25), and the highest score reached 34 points. Results of logistic regression analysis showed that exercise habits (P = 0.025), pain (P = 0.023), and foreign body sensation (P = 0.003) were the risk factors of kinesiophobia., Conclusion: Kinesiophobia is common in cancer patients with TIAPs, and it is closely related to the subjective experience of daily activities, which requires more attention and early intervention to reduce the potential adverse effects., (© 2022. Background: The shortened version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK-11) has been well characterized in the literature. However, to the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have evaluated the reliability and validity of the TSK-11 for Chinese-speaking patients who have undergone total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Thus, the objectives of this study were to translate and adapt the TSK-11 cross-culturally into Chinese and to evaluate its reliability and validity in a sample of Chinese TKA patients., Methods: The TSK-11 was translated and cross-culturally adapted into Chinese according to the international guidelines for the cross-cultural adaptation of self-report measures. The Chinese version of TSK-11 was administered to 254 patients following their TKA, along with the Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire, Pain Catastrophizing Scale, Numerical Rating Scale, and 12-Item Short Form Health Survey. Psychometric testing included internal consistency, test-retest reliability, floor and ceiling effects, construct validity, and convergent validity., Results: A high completion rate of 95.8% with no floor or ceiling effects was noted in the Chinese version of the TSK-11. The questionnaire also showed good internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.883) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.798). Construct validity was assessed by exploratory factor analysis, and 3 factors were extracted that accounted for 65.2% of the variance. Convergent validity was confirmed by significant Pearson correlations between the Chinese version of the TSK-11 and the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (r = 0.751), Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (r = 0.719) and VAS (r = 0.450), as well as the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey subdomains Bodily Pain (r = -0.391), Mental Health (r = -0.356), Physical Functioning (r = -0.339), Role-Emotional (r = -0.317), and Role-Physical (r = -0.277)., Conclusion: The Chinese version of the TSK-11 demonstrated satisfactory acceptability, reliability, and validity; therefore, it can be used in clinical practice and research for assessing kinesiophobia in Chinese patients after TKA., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc. Background: The incidence of and risk factors for kinesiophobia after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have not been well characterized in the literature. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of postoperative kinesiophobia among patients undergoing TKA and to identify the associated risk factors., Methods: The simplified Chinese version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, Knee Self-Efficacy Scale, Numerical Rating Scale, Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and Social Support Rating Scale were used to measure kinesiophobia, self-efficacy, pain intensity, coping styles and social support, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were utilized to identify the risk factors for postoperative kinesiophobia among TKAs., Results: A total of 862 participants were included in this study. Among all participants, 210 (24.4%) were identified as having kinesiophobia according the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK>37), with a mean score of 32.5 (standard deviation 13.1). A multivariate regression analysis showed that older age (odds ratio [OR] = 2.8, confidence interval [CI] = 2.0-3.7), lower education level (OR = 1.7, CI = 1.3-2.4), negative coping styles (OR = 1.6, CI = 1.0-2.2), less social support (OR = 3.5, CI = 3.1-4.1), lower self-efficacy (OR = 1.4, CI = 1.1-1.7), and greater pain intensity (OR = 2.8, CI = 1.5-5.3) are independent risk factors for kinesiophobia., Conclusion: A 24.4% incidence rate of postoperative kinesiophobia was noted in patients following TKA. Older age (most notably ≥76 years old), lower education levels, negative coping styles, greater pain intensity, lower self-efficacy, and less social support were associated with odds of developing postoperative kinesiophobia., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Inc. Background: To evaluate the effects of a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program on kinesiophobia, knee function, pain and pain catastrophizing in patients following total knee arthroplasty (TKA)., Methods: This was a parallel-group, randomized, controlled pilot study in which 100 patients who exhibited kinesiophobia after TKA were randomly assigned to participate in a CBT (experimental group) or standard care (control group) program. Each group included 50 patients. Before intervention (preintervention), 4 weeks after intervention (postintervention), and 6 months after the end of intervention (follow-up), patients were assessed via the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, the Pain Catastrophizing Scale, a numerical rating scale, and the Hospital for Special Surgery knee rating scale. Repeated-measures analysis of variance was used to test the significance of each outcome measure., Results: The CBT program had significant group (P < .001), time (P < .001), and group-by-time interaction (P < .001) effects on kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, and knee function, and these effects lasted for at least 6 months after the end of the intervention. Pain was reduced in both groups after the intervention, but there were significant time and group effects (P = .003) in favor of the experimental group., Conclusion: The CBT program was superior to standard care in reducing kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, and knee pain and in enhancing knee function in patients who have a high level of kinesiophobia following TKA.
