Automated vehicles have started to be integrated into the road transportation system and operate in a mixed traffic environment. To ensure a smooth and successful integration, it is vital to have a good understanding of the human factor challenges involved in the process, especially the issues related to other road users who will share roads with automated vehicles. The study focuses on conventional vehicle drivers' acceptance of and interaction with fully automated vehicles (FAV). An online survey with experimental scenarios showing an FAV's lane-changing intention was designed to test the interaction responses of participants. The survey also collected the participants' demographic information (e.g., age, gender, driving experience), self-reported general driving behaviours (e.g., errors, lapses and violations), past benchmark behaviour in the same situation and their acceptance of FAVs. The study recruited 838 participants in total, comprising 465 participants from Australia (216 males vs. 249 females) and 373 participants from China (172 males vs. 201 females). Ordered probit models were developed to predict three types of behavioural responses of drivers in the lane-changing scenario, i.e., positive, disregardful and aggressive responses. The results showed that older drivers, females, and drivers who had less driving experience were more likely to adopt positive interactions with FAVs than their counterparts. Drivers who reported frequent risky driving behaviours (e.g., aggressions, lapses and errors) were less likely to report positive interaction but more likely to report disregardful and aggressive interactions. Drivers reporting more positive/favourable attitudes and a higher trust toward FAVs demonstrated a higher possibility of positive interaction, and those with higher perceived behaviour control were more likely to restrain disregardful interaction. The study helps to form a greater understanding of conventional vehicle drivers' perception of FAVs and the underlying factors that may influence their interaction behavioural tendency. Purpose: Although research on prefabricated construction has gained increasing attention in recent years, limited efforts have been devoted to investigating safety issues in the off-site manufacture, especially workers' behavioral intentions to work safely. Thus, research is needed to identify the motivational factors determining off-site construction workers' safety behaviors. The purpose of this paper is to investigate workers' safety behavior by examining the determinants of behavioral intention in the off-site manufacturing plants in China. Design/methodology/approach: Theory of planned behavior (TPB) was modified and used in this study to explain how the elements in the hypothesized model interact. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Structural equation modeling technique with partial least-squares estimation was used to analyze the data collected. Findings: The findings of this study indicated that workers' tendency to engage in safety behavior is positively related to attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and behavioral habit, among which attitude toward the behavior and behavioral habit have most significant influences on safety behavior. This finding provides a better explanation on the pathways and the impacts of the crucial factors on the safety behaviors for the off-site manufacture. Originality/value: The possible innovation of this research lies in its attempt to understand the antecedents of workers' safety behavior in the off-site construction environment, which may make original contributions to construction safety research and practice. The findings of this study contribute to the body of knowledge in TPB. Corresponding countermeasures are put forward in order to improve workers' safety behavior in off-site construction. Snacking is prevalent in adolescents and can have significant health impacts, but there is considerable individual and cross-country variation in determinants on adolescent snacking. The present study examined the role of eating styles (i.e. restrained eating, emotional eating, external eating, mindful eating) and the constructs of an extended Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) (i.e. attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, habit strength) in predicting adolescent snacking, and the moderating effects of country. A survey was completed by adolescents aged 16–19 years from China (N = 182; mean age = 16.13, SD = 0.87) and England (N = 96; mean age = 17.04, SD = 0.74). Compared to British adolescents, Chinese adolescents showed higher restrained eating (p =.009), lower external eating (p =.004), less positive attitudes (p <.001) and subjective norms (p =.007) to, and less strong habit strength (p =.005) for unhealthy snacking. Mindful eating significantly predicted lower consumption of unhealthy snacks (p =.008) and beverages (p =.001), while restrained eating predicted higher consumption of fruit (p <.001) and vegetables (p <.001), regardless of country. Country showed significant moderating effects of TPB constructs on unhealthy beverages (p =.008) and fruit (p <.001) consumption, and effects on unhealthy snack (p =.023) and vegetable (p =.015) consumption approaching significance. Subjective norms predicted unhealthy snacking frequency regardless of country (p =.001). Habit strength predicted consumption of beverages (p <.001) and fruit (p <.001) only in English adolescents. Mindful eating may be a positive intervention approach to help reduce adolescent unhealthy snacking. TPB-based snacking interventions should carefully consider the country context. Latterly, the pollution problem of microplastics, known as "PM2.5" in the ocean, has become a novel global problem. Plastic microbeads in daily chemical products have received attention from various countries and scholars because of their tiny size, large quantity, and continuous destructive cycle. China has also actively adopted policies to ban plastic microbeads. It is important whether the Chinese population will support the new products. This study initially describes the current situations and characteristics of China's daily chemical industry. It then focuses on summarizing the development of China's marine regulatory policy. We conclude that regulatory policies in China's daily chemical industry have evolved in a bid to echo marine policies. This study investigates the factors influencing Chinese residents' purchase intentions towards daily chemical products without plastic microbeads through the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). We extend the TPB model by adding environmental concern and moral norm. The results indicate that attitude, subjective norm, environmental concern, and moral norm positively influence purchase intention; however, there is no correlation between perceived behavioural control and purchase intention. This study seeks to suggest recommendations, including improving the ethical educational system, promoting environmental knowledge, etc. This will assist Chinese companies to promote environmentally friendly daily chemical products without plastic microbeads and achieve the environmental products transformation of China's daily chemical industry quickly. It will also provide a reference for further improvement of relevant regulatory policies, striving for the harmonious and sustainable development of China's daily chemical industry and the marine environment at large. In recent decades, water shortage has become a grave problem faced by countries all over the world. Seawater desalination, regarded as an alternative complement to water resources, has gained the attention of governments and scholars. China, particularly its coastal provinces, suffers from water shortage and has devoted considerable energy to promoting the seawater desalination industry. Nevertheless, the fact that residents in coastal regions are unwilling to use desalinated water restricts the large-scale development of desalination. By reviewing policy evolution and the status quo of desalination in China, this paper offers a new perspective for researchers on desalination, in which the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) is adopted to investigate residents' acceptance towards the utilisation of desalinated water. We find that attitude, subjective norm and perceived behaviour control have significant positive effects on behavioural intention and further impact the use of desalinated water. Moreover, an interrelationship between subjective norm and attitude exists as well. In combination with a realistic situation, we further provide a series of corresponding implications for practice.
