Our aim was to clarify the incidence and risk of acute symptomatic seizures in people with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19). This multicenter retrospective study enrolled people with COVID‐19 from January 18 to February 18, 2020 at 42 government‐designated hospitals in Hubei province, the epicenter of the epidemic in China; Sichuan province; and Chongqing municipality. Data were collected from medical records by 11 neurologists using a standard case report form. A total of 304 people were enrolled, of whom 108 had a severe condition. None in this cohort had a known history of epilepsy. Neither acute symptomatic seizures nor status epilepticus was observed. Two people had seizurelike symptoms during hospitalization due to acute stress reaction and hypocalcemia, and 84 (27%) had brain insults or metabolic imbalances during the disease course known to increase the risk of seizures. There was no evidence suggesting an additional risk of acute symptomatic seizures in people with COVID‐19. Neither the virus nor potential risk factors for seizures seem to be significant risks for the occurrence of acute symptomatic seizures in COVID‐19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Health literacy (HL) has become an important public health issue and is receiving growing attention. However, the HL levels of military college students in China have never been analyzed. This study aimed to investigate the HL and related associate factors in military college students in Chongqing, China. Data was obtained with the “Chinese Citizen Health Literacy Questionnaire (2012 edition)” from 3183 military college students aged 16–28 years at Chongqing in December 2015. A total score of ≥80 points determined adequate HL, and HL level was defined as the proportion of students who had adequate HL out of the total number of participants. Multiple logistic regression analysis with a stepwise forward likelihood ratio (LR) method was used to determine the effects of sociodemographic characteristics, health-related behaviors, and family-related factors on HL level. The mean score of HL was 68.56, and the HL level of military college students was 21.05%; the overall knowledge rate was 71.33%. The independent factors that were associated with HL level were years in college, educational system, time playing online games, annual household income and father's education level. Senior (odds ratio [OR] = 1.229, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.018∼1.484), undergraduate (OR = 1.509, 95% CI 1.151∼1.978), time played games more than 5 hours each week (OR = 0.638, 95% CI 0.486∼0.837), annual household incomes more than 50,000 yuan (OR = 1.231, 95% CI 1.027∼1.476) and father's education level (high school: OR = 2.327, 95% CI 1.186∼4.565; university: OR = 2.450, 95% CI 1.244∼4.825), were independently associated with higher HL level. HL levels of military college students in Chongqing need to be improved across the board. Our data suggests that special emphasis should be placed on students in junior and those in the specialist educational system. School departments may also benefit from incorporating health literacy into their curricula and helping students manage the time they spend playing online games. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To elucidate the interspecies connectivity between cyanobacteria and other bacteria (noncyanobacteria), microbial diversity and composition were investigated through high-throughput sequencing (HTS) in a drinking water reservoir in Chongqing city, Southwest China, during Raphidiopsis raciborskii blooms. Significant temporal changes were observed in microbial community composition during the sampling period, primarily reflected by variations in relative bacterial abundance. The modularity analysis of the network demonstrated that the bacterial community forms co-occurrence/exclusion patterns in response to variations in environmental factors. Moreover, five modules involved in the dynamic phases of the R. raciborskii bloom were categorized into the Pre-Bloom, Bloom, Post-Bloom, and Non-Bloom Groups. The reservoir was eutrophic (i.e., the average concentrations of total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were 2.32 and 0.07 mg L−1, respectively) during the investigation; however, Pearson's correlation coefficient showed that R. raciborskii was not significantly correlated with nitrogen and phosphorus. However, other environmental factors, such as water temperature, pH, and the permanganate index, were positively correlated with R. raciborskii. Importantly, Proteobacteria (α -, γ -Proteobacteria), Acidobacteria, Chloroflexi, and Firmicutes were preferentially associated with increased R. raciborskii blooms. These results suggested that the transition of R. raciborskii bloom-related microbial modules and their keystone species could be crucial in the development and collapse of R. raciborskii blooms and could provide a fundamental basis for understanding the linkage between the structure and function of the microbial community during bloom dynamics. Health literacy is important in public health and healthcare, particularly in effective communication between patients and health professionals. Although most medical students will eventually work as health professionals after graduation, research on health literacy of medical students is scarce. This study aimed to assess the health literacy level of medical students in Chongqing, China, and its influencing factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted and 1,275 participants (250 males and 1,022 females) who majored in five different disciplines were involved. The Health Literacy Questionnaire was used as the survey tool. The junior students obtained the highest scores, whereas the freshman students had the lowest scores on each scale. The average score of males was higher than that of females except in “feeling understood and supported by healthcare providers,” and the average score of students who reside in urban areas was higher than that of students in rural areas. Moreover, the average score of engineering students was higher than that of medical or health sciences students. Multiple linear regression models (Radj2 = 0.435, P = 0.000) showed that the grade, socioeconomic status, and parent’s highest level of education were positively correlated with health literacy.
