Abstract

A research examining the aerosol composition around the 4th block of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor in Ukraine, which might be hazardous for people not only living around the area but also to people living several kilometers away, is presented. It is reported that, molten fuel material within the concrete shelter of the reactor called, Sarcophagus, is continuously releasing atmospheric aerosols, mostly due to the crystallization of the amorphous lava-like materials.
