Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a zoonotic disease caused by protozoa of the Leishmania genus, transmitted by vectors from the Phlebotominae subfamily. The interaction between the vector, reservoir, and parasite is susceptible to climate change. This study explores how temperature and rainfall influenced the incidence of CL in 15 Colombian municipalities between 2017 and 2019. Epidemiological data were obtained from Colombia's Instituto Nacional de Salud, while climatological data came from the Instituto de Hidrología, Meteorología y Estudios Ambientales. Using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, we examined the relationships between monthly climatic variables and the cumulative incidence of CL, considering various lag times. The data were further analyzed using Locally Weighted Scatterplot Smoothing (LOWESS). Our findings reveal both significant positive and negative correlations, depending on locality and climate variables. LOWESS analysis indicates that while rainfall-related incidence remains stable, temperature impacts incidence in a parabolic trend. This study underscores the significant yet complex influence of climatic factors on CL incidence. The insights gained could aid public health efforts by improving predictive models and crafting targeted interventions to mitigate the disease's impact, particularly in regions vulnerable to climate variability. Insect population decline has been reported worldwide, including those of pollinators important for ecosystem services. Therefore, conservation actions which rely on available rigorous species distribution data are necessary to protect biodiversity. Niche modeling is an appropriate approach to distribution maps, but when it comes to bumble bees, few studies have been performed in South America. We modeled ecological niches of nine Colombian Bombus species with MAXENT 3.4 software using bioclimatic variables available from WorldClim. This resulted in maps for each species that show the potential distribution area at the present time. Modeled species maps accurately represent potential niches according to the description of bioclimatic conditions in the species' habitat. We grouped the species into three clusters based on our results, as well as on distributional information from literature on the topic: High Mountain, Mid-Mountain and inter-Andean, and the Amazon and Eastern Plains Basin. Objective/Context: Citizen support for democracy is in question. In the Latin American case, after having increased at the beginning of the 21st century, indicators of support for democracy showed marked decline throughout the last decade. This is particularly evident in the Andean countries, where recent setbacks in the legitimacy of democratic institutions have been accompanied by problematic electoral processes that were deeply questioned by their citizens. Methodology: Using recent data from two of the main sources of comparative public opinion available for Latin America--AmericasBarometer and the World Values Survey--this work focuses on indicators of citizen support for democracy in four countries of the Andean region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru), investigating the effect of government approval on the evaluation of democracy. The study uses a methodological design that recognizes different levels of support for democracy, to discuss the hypothesis that effects should be different between the levels analyzed. Conclusions: The results show that more concrete levels of support for democracy are more strongly influenced by individual political positions, while the values that sustain democracy are not affected at a statistically significant level. Originality: The methodology allows identifying the multidimensionality of citizen support for democracy and how this support depends on different factors according to the studied level. Introduction: The objective of this study was to explore the approach to patients with psychiatric symptoms by nursing professionals in general hospitalisation units in the city of Medellín, Colombia., Methods: A qualitative study with the method of interpretive phenomenology. 11 nursing professionals from general hospitalisation units in the city of Medellín, Colombia participated. The information analysis was processed according to the Phenomenological Interpretive Analysis method and with the support of the NVIVO Plus 12 software., Results: The nurses' experience is described through three themes: representations of the patient with psychiatric symptoms, the patient as aggressive, violent and unpredictable; feeling fearful while providing care, caring for others in the midst of prevention, fear and stress, and being in a chaotic situation, a circumstance that gets out of control and alters the dynamics of the hospitalisation unit., Conclusions: Caring for patients with psychiatric symptoms is stressful, especially when nursing professionals perceive a lack of support from other colleagues and from the hospital administration. Objective: Describe the beliefs of parents about the mental disorders of their children who attended a paediatric outpatient clinic at a university hospital., Methods: This was a descriptive study with parents of children with mental disorders seen from January to May of 2018 at a high complexity hospital in Medellin, Colombia. Ninety-eight (98) parents of children and adolescents attending their first outpatient consultation with Paediatric Psychiatry were studied. An instrument designed by the investigators was applied to obtain demographic variables and beliefs about the origin of their child's mental disorder, treatment and adjuvants., Results: 49.9% of the 98 parents believed that their child had a mental disorder. 43.9% believed the disorder was inherited and 41.8% believed its cause was organic. 95.9% of the parents believed the child needed treatment, including psychotherapy (90.4%) and medication (58.51%). Among the alternative treatments the parents believed the child needed, healing was the most commonly cited by 27.5% of the parents. Of the adjuvant methods, the most commonly cited were reinforcing positive behaviour (82.7%) and correcting with words and setting a good example (72.4%)., Conclusions: Nearly half of the parents believed their child had a mental disorder, the treatment that was most commonly considered was psychotherapy above medication, and the best adjuvant methods cited by parents were reinforcing positive behaviour, correcting with words and setting a good example., (Copyright © 2019 Asociación Colombiana de Psiquiatría. The article aims to describe the Mental Health Recovery Model, the Tidal Model in Mental Health Recovery and their relevance to implementation within the practice of Colombian nursing. Some concepts about mental health recovery and the theoretical model proposed by Phil Barker are presented in the text, analysing these with the challenges of the nursing professional to improve mental health care, taking into account the current context of care practice. The principles proposed with the Recovery model help to focus care on the person and not on the symptomatology of the illness, understanding that the person has different dimensions which make it possible for him/her to explore his/her own path to recovery. We can conclude that, through the theory, we can develop interventions and nursing activities that contribute to improving the quality of life of people who have been diagnosed with a mental illness, modifying the traditional healthcare models., (Copyright © 2018 Asociación Colombiana de Psiquiatría.
