The article presents information related to a study on the movements of female big brown bats in roosting places during their reproductive phase. Female bats roosting during summer in buildings in Fort Collins, Colorado, have been observed in this study. Their behavior of moving around buildings occupied by people can become a source of public concern as they are also the carriers of several diseases such as rabies. Therefore, the researchers used passive integrated transponders (PIT tags) to mark the bats and maintained a daily watch on the adult females throughout the lactation phase of their reproduction. It was found that hot conditions influenced movements in bats in urban settings.
