The article presents information about Utah with respect to its petroleum production and oil reservoirs. The petroleum exploration history in Utah dates back to the 1890s. The maximum number of fields in Utah were concentrated in the Uinta and Paradox basins which were located on the Colorado Plateau. Several small, independent oil companies were located in the central Utah overthrust belt including Burnett oil Co., Delta Petroleum Corp. and many others. Petroleum production went up at an increasing pace which was analyzed from the number of drilling permits for Sanpete and Sevier counties in central Utah which have increased from zero in 2002 to eight in 2005.
