- Abstract
These proceedings contain the three presentations and reports of four workshops of a conference addressing the issue of the jobs-skills mismatch problem in the Stamford Area (Connecticut). In his keynote address, Balancing People with Jobs: The Task Before Us, Fred T. Allen uses his own company, Pitney Bowes, as an illustration of the current job/skills imbalance. He outlines problems and offers suggestions for solutions. The presentation, The Stamford Labor Market Area--Its People, Labor Force, and Jobs, is a slide show presented by Hyung C. Chung. The twenty slides (figures and tables) are reproduced along with the narrative. Causes and affected segments of the labor force in the mismatch problem are several topics discussed. The topic, Toward an Action Plan, is approached through (1) a presentation entitled Jobs-Skills Mismatch Problems in the Southwestern Connecticut (Job Skills Mismatch Problems, Goals, and Proposals); (2) a proposal explicating goals and alternative methods; and (3) four workshop reports addressing questions about the important problems, the most workable solutions/actions, and specifications to address the most critical needs. Participant answers to the question, "What is your priority recommendation for followup action?" are summarized as conclusions. (YLB)
