The objective of this study was to focus on the banking-sustainability relationship from a vision of science, technology and society, considering that the financial sector can contribute to the mitigation of the negative impacts that the climate change has on the national economy. To summarize the main elements associated with sustainable development, corporate social responsibility and the contribution of banking to sustainable development. Emphasis is placed on Cuban conditions. The level of commitment of the entities with sustainability from the main actors is identified: the internal environmental management and the introduction of sustainable criteria in the financial products of the services portfolio. The introduction of the principles of sustainability in banking institutions constitutes the primary step towards the development of sustainable banking in the national banking system, mainly focused on supporting projects with socio-environmental benefits.
