The essay analyzes the theoretical conceptualization of the Caribbean through three fundamental approaches: 1) The colonial historical perspective, which begins with the arrival of the conquerors to the Antilles, which had as a consequence negative modification in the ways of life of the autochthonous populations, the exploitation of nature, the slave trade, among other situations that threaten the human condition and dignity. 2) The philosophical and emancipatory perspective, where the main problems when defining Caribbean philosophy are highlighted, due to academic factors, geographical and linguistic problems and the lack of interest of the conquerors in the cultural evolution of the region (Valdés, 2020). In addition, it points out the role of philosophy in the progress of independent thought, characterized by humanistic and subversive ideals, materialized in the Haitian Revolution and, later, in the independence of Cuba. 3) It explores how, despite a diverse colonial past, the Caribbean maintains its roots in its identity, becoming a diverse, and half-blood culture that is integrated into the struggles for the recognition of what is proper to being American. The method used is the hermeneutic-documentary. It concludes on the importance of the Caribbean as a pluriversal strategic space, with a common objective of struggle: the emancipation of modern / colonial power, manifested in hegemonic globalization. Cultural identity of peoples and individuals has been threatened by the continuous migrations, mainly from under-developed to developed countries. Therefore, it is an issue of current importance that has been approached from different fields of study. However, the study of this phenomenon from the linguistic perspective is insufficient, even when language is one of the vital pillars of identity. The use of language in the Cuban-American literature is a way of representing the cultural hybridism of Cuban immigrants in the United States. Hence, the objective of this research is to propose a cultural-linguistic model of analysis of bilingualism in the discourse of Cuban-American authors as a representation of cultural identity, illustrated through the analysis of bilingualism in Next Year in Cuba, a representative Cuban-American literary work. The hermeneutic-dialectic approach has been present throughout this research which has permitted the transit from observation, comprehension, explanation, and interpretation. Through this model it has been possible to demonstrate that bilingualism is a feature of linguistic identity that expresses the bicultural identity of immigrants of Cuban origin in the United States. The sugar industry was the main factor of colonization of Cuba since the half of the XVIII century. Starting with this activity an own identity was conformed in the social, the economic and the physical aspects of the regions where it was developed, an own identity that responds to the production of the candy. The territory that occupies the current province of Villa Clara is not the exception of this process. The sugar batey derived of the factories of the candy, constitutes an important expression of this identity, because of that to characterize the urban structures that were fomented and grew enclosed to the sugar factories that were in exploitation until the restructuring process attacked in the sector starting from the 2002 or that installations that still continue active, constitutes the main objective of this work. The novel Sab (1841) by Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda is a major critical contribution concerning patriarchal society and the enslavement of the subject of African descent in Cuba. However, Sab is not an abolitionist text: the discourse on race coincides with the expectations of the white dominant culture. This article places Avellaneda's narrative within the socio-cultural project of Creole reformists who promoted a gradual end of slavery with financial compensation for the slave owners, a transition from slave to free salaried labor, and, most importantly, the whitening of Cuban society.
