Naval transportation played an important role in chrome mining in Cuba since the mineral was shipped and transferred in cargo ships to North American ports. In the community of Yamanigüey in the municipality of Moa, a wreck linked to chrome mining has been submerged for more than 60 years. Due to the lack of management of the municipality's underwater cultural heritage, there is a risk of it being looted. An inventory was carried out to identify the submerged wreck using knowledge of geodesy and diving techniques to achieve the subsequent cataloguing, registration and protection of this wreck as mining and cultural heritage of the Moa Municipality. The macroscopic identification of a chromite sample in the archaeological site where the wreck is located confirms the transportation of the mineral at the time of its shipwreck.
