FINANCIAL statements , *ACCOUNTING standards , *FINANCIAL ratios , *GLOBALIZATION - Abstract
As a result of globalization, the transfer of ownership to the hands of foreign firms, as a result of acquisitions and mergers, the accounting entity switches to other accounting systems. In the US, the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles accounting standard is used, the International Financial Reporting Standards accounting system is increasingly being promoted in Europe, and the Czech Accounting Standards are the most widely used in the Czech Republic. However, some Czech companies also keep IFRS accounting not only for the purpose of business comparability with other SBUs operating in Europe, but also because it is a necessary condition for entering a company on the stock exchange. Also, the Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) requires companies with traded securities to disclose their financial statements in the form of financial statements prepared in accordance with IFRS. The aim of this paper is to compare selected indicators of financial analysis and to verify the hypothesis that the chosen accounting system influences the economic performance of the enterprise expressed through financial ratios. For owners, investors and management are the key financial indicators the profitability ratios. The statistical significance of the research has shown that the financial ratios of return on assets and return on capital employed differ according to used accounting standards. On the other hand, return on equity ratios also showed different values, but this difference was statistically confirmed with lower significance level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The focus is mainly on financial health of the given sector with the objective to identify its strengths and its weaknesses. Financial analysis is an important part of financial management. Financial analysis results serve as a starting point for decision making by management, by owners and by other external but involved parties. The centre of attention of a financial analysis is the short-term financial situation (ability to pay in one year horizon) as well as the long-term financial situation (ability to pay for long-term obligations). Effective functioning of the relevant sector has also an impact on financial health (achievement of profits). Despite the fact that financial analysis is based on past periods data its main reason is to give forward looking information. Financial analysis is used as a support tool for decision-making processes. The financial analysis of the land and the pipeline transportation in the Czech Republic is executed as an external financial analysis. This financial analysis is based on publicly available data published by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. In this financial analysis the basic financial analysis methods are utilized, primarily the method of ratio indicators is used here. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aim of the submitted paper is to analyse the impact of the amendment to the Act on Accounting on the selected ratios of financial analysis in the Czech Republic. Users of accounting information analyse presented information about the company for various reasons. One reason may be the fact that they can elaborate financial analysis based on the obtained data and use processed results for decision - making. There was a change in reporting of items "Change in own inventories" and "Capitalization" since the 1st January 2016 in the Czech Republic. These items were recognized as revenues till the end of 2015 and they have been recognized as expenses since 2016. The new method does not influence the total amount of long-term or current assets, liabilities, equity, profit or loss. The total amount of operating expenses and revenues has been influenced only. These changes in Act on Accounting can be insignificant at first sight, but if the company elaborates selected ratios of financial analysis, the results will be different in accordance with the usage of the old and new method. Analysis of the impact of these changes on the financial performance will be elaborated on a sample of companies operating in the automotive industry. Based on the data it will be possible to say whether these changes has a major impact on results of selected ratios or not. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Overall effectiveness of the subsidy policy applied by the EU in the area of renewable energy in the first decade of the 21st century was assessed. The case study involved three renewable energy sources who received the subsidies. The detailed analysis of economic efficiency presented here was built on real cash flows data and holistic assessment of the externalities. The applied criteria of financial efficiency were as follows: the simple payback period, rate of return and net present value. Based on the results of the last given criterion the newly proposed indicator of effective subsidy policy was constructed. Its contribution lies in the fact that it allows to formulate recommendations regarding the effective management of subsidies to the maximum possible extent in the case of a limited amount of resources. In addition, this indicator assesses the effectiveness of the subsidy policy of projects of this kind more accurately than methods used so far. Finally, it is recommended rather to prevent failures of the market, in order to completely abolish the subsidies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multi-criteria analysis is a decision-making and efficiency assessment tool for application in both the private and public sectors. Its application is preceded by the selection of suitable indicators and a homogenous set of variants, as well as suitable methods based on the nature of the input data. The goal of the submitted research is to highlight the importance of selecting suitable indicators using a case study assessment of the financial health of a municipality—more precisely, the efficiency of management of this municipality. Four key indicators, thirty-two homogenous subjects, and one multi-criteria analysis method were identified in this study based on the theoretical foundations of the specific issue. These elements were processed into a total of 14 variants depending on the number of assessed indicators. Then, these results were subjected to statistical verification alongside verification using the Jaccard index. Based on the acquired results, we highlight the need for correct and expert identification of the relevant sets of alternatives (the criteria matrix) and expert discussion, which should precede the selection of the assessed indicators and objectify this selection process as much as possible. Assessment based on a low number of indicators was shown to be insufficient, highly variable, and diverse, and these differences were partially eliminated as the number of assessed indicators increased.
