The article discusses the multinational field campaign known as Stratosphere-Climate Links with Emphasis on the Upper Troposphere and Lower Stratosphere and Aerosol and Chemical Transport in Deep Convection in Darwin, Northern Territory on November 10 to December 10, 2005. It investigates the effect of deep convection on the composition of the tropical tropopause layer through the transport of water vapor, aerosols, and chemicals into the tropical upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. The experiment involved four aircraft and the principles were to examine the tropical convection in a region where convection was regular, isolated, and facilities were available. It suggests that the campaign was successful due to the excellent data measured by aircraft, sondes, and ground-based systems.
