The Taihang–Lvliangshan region is located in the central part of the North China Craton (NCC), which has undergone significant reactivation and reconstruction during the Mesozoic–Cenozoic period. Documenting its long‐term uplift and exhumation history is critical for accurately characterizing the reformation extent of the NCC. In order to further reveal the Mesozoic and Cenozoic exhumation stages and spatial exhumation pattern of the Taihang–Lvliangshan, we present a comprehensive low‐temperature thermochronometric datasets from the region. The compilation revealed five distinct rapid exhumation episodes within the Taihang–Lvliangshan, including the Middle‐Late Jurassic (~160–150 Ma), Early Cretaceous (~120–110 Ma), Late Cretaceous (~100–60 Ma), Eocene (~50–40 Ma), and Late Oligocene–Early Miocene (~30–20 Ma). During the Middle–Late Jurassic, the Taihang–Lvliangshan underwent a strong thrusting deformation caused by the synthesis of northwestward subduction of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate and southward subduction/collision of the Mongol–Okhotsk suture zone. Subsequently, rapid exhumation under an extensional tectonic environment occurred during the Early Cretaceous primarily owing to the subduction of the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate. During the Late Cretaceous, the collision between the Okhotomorsk Block and East Asia resulted in the regional northwest–southeast shortening and uplift of the Taihang–Lvliangshan. During the Eocene, normal fault activations were occurring throughout the range, likely owing to the change in the convergence rate and direction between the Palaeo‐Pacific Plate and East Asia. Another important exhumation event occurred during the Late Oligocene–Early Miocene period, which was likely attributed to the result of combined effects from both the India–Eurasia collision and Pacific Plate subduction. Furthermore, differential exhumation of the Taihang–Lvliangshan were clearly revealed according to the five separate E–W elevation–distance profiles of the Taihang–Lvliangshan. They displayed greater exhumation thicknesses at the southern regions than those along the northern regions, which can be explained by the development of the Shanxi Rift that began to form following the Oligocene–Miocene period. Most gastric cancer (GC) cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage in China. Because of its high morbidity and mortality, GC remains a major health crisis in China. Surgical resection is the only potentially curative treatment for GC. Owing to being minimally invasive, laparoscopic radical gastrectomy has been widely used in various countries, especially in East Asia, since Kitano first reported the feasibility and safety of this technique. Although laparoscopic gastric surgery was introduced relatively late in China, Chinese surgeons have made unique contributions to the research and clinical practice of laparoscopic gastric surgery due to the large number of clinical cases. This review focuses on the progress in laparoscopic gastrectomy for advanced stage GC in China, including reasonable approaches in different areas and oncologic efficacy of laparoscopic surgery, and introduce advanced technology to facilitate surgeons to rapidly overcome the learning curve in clinical practice. Quaternary climate and environment oscillations have profoundly shaped the population dynamic history and geographic distributions of current plants. However, how the endangered and rare tree species respond to the climatic and environmental fluctuations in the subtropical regions of China in East Asia still needs elucidation. In this study, we collected 36 natural populations of an endangered and rare tree species Magnolia sprengeri Pamp. in subtropical China to determine the demographic history, and modeled the changes of geographic distributions of this species in East Asia based on the MaxEnt ecological niche analyses. In addition, we sequenced three maternally inherited chloroplast DNA fragments (matK, trnH-psbA, and rbcL) for all the natural populations which covered the whole geographic distributions of M. sprengeri. Population genetic analysis showed that the endangered tree species have a low level of chloroplast DNA diversity. However, the genetic variation contribution within populations was greater than that among populations (FST = 0.276), which demonstrated a high level of genetic differentiation. Interestingly, some unique chloroplast DNA haplotypes and higher genetic variations were identified in the Qinling-Daba Mountains, Central China, and Tianmu Mountains of Zhejiang province, East of China in East Asia. Combining with the species distribution modeling, we speculated that these areas might be the potential glacial refugia for the endangered plant M. sprengeri. Phylogeographic analysis demonstrated that the geographic factors (e.g., mountains, rivers, and other isolation barriers) had little effect on the genetic divergence among populations. Ecological niche modeling further revealed that the natural populations of M. sprengeri did not experience significant geographic distribution changes from the last glacial maximum to the present time. These findings are in line with the analysis results of the multimodal mismatch patterns of the chloroplast DNA variations. To protect the endangered species M. sprengeri, in situ and ex situ conservation strategies should be formulated for the natural populations with higher genetic variations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• First mitogenome of the superfamily Arionoidea. • Novel gene order for Stylommatophora. • Repeated tandem duplication random loss best explains gene order evolution. Stylommatophora is a main clade of Gastropoda that encompasses approximately 112 gastropod families and may exceed a total of 30,000 species. Twenty-four complete stylommatophoran mitogenomes have been sequenced to date, yet our understanding of mitochondrial evolution in stylommatophorans is still in its infancy. To further expand the set of available mitogenomes, we sequenced the mitogenome of Meghimatium bilineatum (Arionoidea: Philomycidae), a widespread land slug in East Asia. This is the first report on a mitogenome of the superfamily Arionoidea, and indeed on a terrestrial slug. The mitogenome of Meghimatium bilineatum comprises 13,972 bp and exhibits a novel, highly distinctive gene arrangement among the Stylommatophora. Phylogenetic reconstructions based on the sequences of all protein-coding genes consistently recovered Meghimatium bilineatum as sister-group of the Succineidae. A phylogenetic reconstruction based on gene order, however, suggested a highly divergent tree topology, which is less credible when taking into account prior knowledge of stylommatophoran relationships. Our CREx (Common interval Rearrangement Explorer) analysis suggested that three successive events of tandem duplication random loss (TDRL) best explain the evolutionary process of gene order rearrangement in Meghimatium bilineatum from an ancestral stylommatophoran mitogenome. The present example offers new insights into the mechanisms of mitogenome rearrangements in gastropods at large and into the usefulness of mitogenomic gene order as a phylogenetic marker.
