In this article the author recalls his having been sent to fight in the British Army during the Suez Crisis of 1956. He describes his travel through the Mediterranean in a troop transport and his regiment's occupation of the Egyptian town of Port Said. By the author's own admission he was an undistinguished soldier and saw no action. He cites the crisis as a cautionary tale against impulsive and assertive political leaders.
