This article discusses annotations to some eighty surviving copies of William Caxton's "Golden Legend." It assesses reactions from male and female readers across the religious spectrum, exploring the varied ways in which early modern readers engaged with a book that quickly became—and has remained—a shorthand for medieval religion. The library at Lanhydrock in Cornwall contains many books annotated by its seventeenth-century owners. The complex meanings these books carried depended on their physical location in the Cornish landscape, and the meaning of that landscape was in turn shaped by the presence of the marked books. Early moderns were adept at creating and interpreting such context-specific assemblages of books which projected autobiographical personae. These habits were a means by which book-users could simultaneously fit themselves to their environments (or "habitats") and reshape those environments in a reciprocal process of fashioning. Public reputation was an important consideration guiding these practices. This model of the interaction of books, reputation, and habitat can be extended beyond physical locations like Lanhydrock to help understand how early moderns inhabited their economic culture. The article presents and discusses annotations to a copy of the 1710 book "The Tryal of Dr Henry Sacheverell," by Jacob Tonson, held by the Huntington Library in San Marino, California, which forms an account of the trial of English High Church clergyman and politician Henry Sacheverell following his delivery of controversial sermons. It consider the annotator's whig political leanings and sympathies for religious dissent. The image of Sacheverell as a trumpeter is also analyzed.

Abstract: The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) provides a free-access sequence search service that combines some of the most comprehensive, annotation-rich resources with a broad range of search and analysis tools. These resources contain patent abstracts, patent chemical compounds, patent sequences and patent equivalents extracted from the EPO, USPTO, JPO and KIPO, in addition to non-patent data. Patent protein and nucleotide sequence data are also available as annotation-enriched non-redundant datasets that clearly display priority dates. Search results are linked to a wide array of specialized databases and, for proteins, functional predictions that add in-depth annotation to help prioritize results when building a claim, without the need to search multiple databases. This article identifies one of Robert Fabyan's source books, his copy of the Nuremberg Chronicle, which contains extensive notes and annotations in his hand. The volume is among the collections at Guildhall Library, London. The marginal notes are of particular interest, not only for the light they shed on Fabyan's working practice, but also because the similarities with the hands of the extant manuscripts of the latter part of the Great Chronicle of London, and The Newe Cronycles of England and Fraunce (Fabyan's Chronicle), demonstrate Fabyan's involvement in each work. Een schoone ende wonderlijcke prognosticatie (1560) is one of many Dutch texts dealing with the trickster Till Eulenspiegel, known as "Tiji Uilenspiegel" in the Low Countries and "Owiglass" in England. The poem differs from most Eulenspiegel literature in two key respects. First, it treats the figure as a narrator rather than a character, and second, it seems designed for performance rather than simple recital. This article provides a detailed study of the annotations in the two Winchester College copies of Robert Lowth’s (1710–1787) Short Introduction to English Grammar (1762) which R. C. Alston used for his facsimile edition (1968). Alston believed that one of the copies belonged to Lowth and that the other copy was used for the second edition of the grammar in 1763. My article, however, demonstrates that this was not the case. It present arguments that serve to identify the owner of the second copy, and it demonstrates that there is one feature in his language the historical development of which was very likely due to influence from Lowth’s grammar. The author notes Clifford reading habits and discusses annotations made by her in copies of the books "A Mirror for Magistrates" and "The Court and Character of King James," by Anthony Weldon, that Clifford had owned. He discusses how Clifford had the book read to her in her youth and reread it after gaining control of her estates and comments on an annotation identifying the character of a knight in the book.
