LONDON Terrorist Bombings, London, England, 2005 , *INFORMATION networks , *TERRORISM , *WEBSITES - Abstract
The article focuses on the impact of terror attacks in London, England on the information network. Major London news sites suffered performance degradation following last week's terror attacks, as people from across the globe headed to the Web to access information from primary sources. Some one in four people heading to Great Britain-based news sites such as the BBC, Sky News, Financial Times and the Daily Mirror, were unable to get through in the hours after the bombings. Download times for home pages of the leading Great Britain news sites tracked increased more than eightfold, to as much as 18 seconds. Panicked residents and visitors in London during the attacks generally found their cell phones jammed, but those with text messaging were often able to get through.
