We report the first definite specimen of a thalattosuchian crocodylomorph from the Portland Stone Formation of England. This specimen (an isolated tooth crown) can be referred to the teleosauroid genus Machimosaurus based on its conical shape, distinctive enamel ornamentation and lack of carinae. Understanding the faunal composition of the Portland Stone Formation is key to elucidating the distinct shift in crocodylomorph taxa that occurred during the Tithonian-to-Berriasian in Europe. One of the most striking aspects of this faunal shift is the hypothesised extinction of Teleosauroidea in Europe. The presence of Machimosaurus in the Portland Stone Formation supports the hypothesis that the localised marine regression in Europe at the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary, and the resultant habitat loss, contributed to the absence of teleosauroids in Europe during the Berriasian. However, the fossil record of thalattosuchians during the Cretaceous is notorious scarce. We review the purported Cretaceous record of teleosauroids, and agree that closer to the equator this clade survived for at least 20 million years after the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary. Teleosauroids were a successful group of semi-aquatic crocodylomorphs that were an integral part of coastal marine/lagoonal faunas during the Jurassic. Their fossil record suggests that the group declined in diversity and abundance in deep water deposits during the Late Jurassic. One of the few known teleosauroid species from the deeper water horizons of the well-known Kimmeridge Clay Formation is 'Teleosaurus' megarhinus Hulke, 1871, a poorly studied, gracile longirostrine form. The holotype is an incomplete snout from the Aulacostephanus autissiodorensis Sub-Boreal ammonite Zone of Kimmeridge, England. The only other referred specimen is an almost complete skull from the slightly older A. eudoxus Sub-Boreal ammonite Zone of Quercy, France. Recently, the validity of this species has been called into question. Here we redescribe the holotype as well as the referred French specimen and another incomplete teleosauroid, DORCM G.05067i-v (an anterior rostrum with three osteoderms and an isolated tooth crown), from the same horizon and locality as the holotype. We demonstrate that all specimens are referable to 'Teleosaurus' megarhinus and that the species is indeed a valid taxon, which we assign to a new monotypic genus, Bathysuchus. In our phylogenetic analysis, the latest iteration of the ongoing Crocodylomorph SuperMatrix Project, Bathysuchus megarhinus is found as sister taxon to Aeolodon priscus within a subclade containing Mycterosuchus nasutus and Teleosaurus cadomensis. Notably Bathysuchus has an extreme reduction in dermatocranial ornamentation and osteoderm size, thickness and ornamentation. These features are mirrored in Aeolodon priscus, a species with a well-preserved post-cranial skeleton and a similar shallow and inconspicuous dermal ornamentation. Based on these morphological features, and sedimentological evidence, we hypothesise that the Bathysuchus + Aeolodon clade is the first known teleosauroid lineage that evolved a more pelagic lifestyle. A new metriorhynchid crocodylomorph from the Lower Kimmeridge Clay Formation ( Kimmeridgian, Upper Jurassic) of England is described. This specimen, a three-dimensionally preserved skull and left mandibular ramus, is referred to a new species: T orvoneustes coryphaeus sp. nov. Within the genus Torvoneustes, T . coryphaeus sp. nov. is unique as it has a long anteromedial process of the frontal, ornamented dermatocranium, and the supraorbital notch forms a strongly acute angle. Our phylogenetic analysis confirms the placement of this specimen in Torvoneustes. The dentition of T . coryphaeus sp. nov., like that of the type species, has a blunt apex, crown basal-mid regions with numerous tightly packed apicobasally aligned ridges, and apical region with an anastomosed pattern of ridges that interact with the carinae. Within Thalattosuchia these dental characteristics are only found in Torvoneustes and the teleosaurid Machimosaurus. The heavily ornamented dermatocranium of T . coryphaeus sp. nov. is in contrast to the unornamented (nasals and frontal)-lightly ornamented (maxillae and premaxillae) pattern seen in Torvoneustes carpenteri. Curiously, this pattern of reduction and loss of dermatocranium ornamentation is also observed in Metriorhynchus, Dakosaurus, and the subclade Rhacheosaurini. We hypothesize that the 'smooth' dermatocranium of Late Jurassic metriorhynchids evolved independently in each subclade (parallel evolution), and would have reduced drag, thereby making locomotion through water more energy efficient. © 2013 The Linnean Society of London [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

‘Ergonomics: Real Design’ was an exhibition at the Design Museum in London to celebrate the 60th anniversary of UK ergonomics. The aim of the exhibition was to enhance the appreciation of ergonomics in society amongst researchers and the general public; as a public engagement project a key objective was to facilitate two-way dialogue between ergonomists and non-ergonomists. This article presents the development of the exhibition, covering the formative evaluation which was directed at determining perceptions of ergonomics from both within and outside the discipline. The output was then used to guide the choice of exhibits – both in terms of the content and the structure of the message – and further summative evaluation work to assess the impact of the exhibition is presented. This article concludes by extracting key lessons from the exhibition project for future public engagement with ergonomics, with critical reflection on the nature of ergonomics itself. Recent revision of the marine metriorhynchid crocodilians indicates that a partial skull previously assigned to the species Metriorhynchus superciliosus and newly discovered postcranial elements from the Kimmeridge Clay of Westbury, Wiltshire belong to a new species of metriorhynchid. This material is herein described and referred to a new species of the genus Dakosaurus, characterised by four apomorphies: the size and shape of the enlarged supratemporal fossae; relatively large teeth, and half the number in relatives; the robust and unornamented cranium; and the angle that the prefrontal makes with the long axis of the skull. In a new phylogenetic analysis, Dakosaurus carpenteri sp. nov. is the basal member of a clade containing also D. maximus and D. andiniensis: it is not so short-snouted and its teeth are not so few and large as in the other two species, but the new form illustrates the ecological transition among metriorhynchids from a piscivorous diet to high-order carnivory. Objectives: This study primarily aimed to explore injury incidence rates in the three main domestic competition formats in England and Wales (First-Class, One-Day and Twenty20 [T20]). For the first time, the study also describes the epidemiology of elite men's domestic cricket injuries across nine seasons (2010-2018 inclusive)., Design: Prospective cohort analysis., Methods: Injury incidence and prevalence from all injuries calculated according to the updated international consensus statement on injury surveillance in cricket, with statistical process control charts (SPC) used to detect trends in the data., Results: The average match injury incidence was 102 injuries/1000 days of play, with highest incidence in One-Day (254 injuries/1000 days of play), followed by T20 (136 injuries/1000 days of play) and First-Class Cricket (68 injuries/1000 days of play). Most match injuries were sustained during bowling (41.6 injuries/1000 days of play), followed by fielding (26.8 injuries/1000 days of play) and batting (22.3 injuries/1000 days of play). The thigh was the body area most commonly injured (7.4 injuries/100 players per season), with lumbar spine injuries the most prevalent (1.3% of players unavailable on any given day during the season). On average, 7.5% of players were unavailable on any given day during the domestic season when all injuries were considered (match and training). The SPC charts showed relatively consistent match injury incidence for all competitions, reproduced across all nine seasons., Conclusion: These findings provide a robust empirical base for the extent of the injury problem in domestic cricket played in England and Wales, with similar injury profiles across the three formats., (Copyright © 2020 Sports Medicine Australia.
