One of the important artillery manuals of the 15th century is the Feuerwerkbuch. The treatise was one of the first European didactic technical texts, intended for both artillerymen and their employers. After circulating in manuscript copies for over a hundred years, the text was first printed in 1529. By 1619 it had been published thirteen times in total, making it exceptional among military manuals published in Central Europe at that time. The content of the work has been studied by various medievalists and codicologists to date, but they were not usually concerned with later transformations of the publication. The aim of this paper is to characterise the changes in this work between the late Middle Ages and the beginning of the Thirty Years' War and to trace its publication history and its publication relationship to other educational texts. Studies carried out in Europe are of great importance in terms of the history of the Book of Dede Korkut studies. The present study is based on the analytical evaluation of studies conducted in Europe on the Book of Dede Korkut and in foreign languages spoken in Europe. For the list of academic studies in this article, previous bibliographic studies, European and USA-centered databases/online catalogs were utilized. The bibliographic list obtained was classified as "translations" and "selected other works". This study, which has a descriptive character in terms of presenting a bibliographic list on the Book of Dede Korkut, can also be accepted as an analytical review in terms of a holistic evaluation of the studies in question. The present study, which aims to bring the studies on the Book of Dede Korkut in foreign languages to the attention of scholars who read and write in Turkish, to determine the general tendencies of the Dede Korkut researches in Europe and to make a general evaluation based on these determinations, has the purpose of contributing to the corpus of the Book of Dede Korkut researches. In addition, in the light of the data and evaluations put forward, it can be considered as another aim of the article to direct new studies on the Book of Dede Korkut. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The difficulties associated with the creation of a large database of book prices include giving effective answers to questions such as how prices were formed during the various steps of the production process (sedimentation of production costs, costs related to the sale) or what the nature of the assigned value is (estimated in the case of used books, or of stock inventories, or the result of special conditions offered to specific customers, etc.). But first it is necessary to reflect on the interpretation given to the figures provided by the heterogeneous documentation which supports the creation of such a database. The many reference currencies in which these prices are expressed, depending on the monetary area of action of the economic operators (printers, booksellers, customers) are likely to confuse and mislead if their exact meaning is not clearly understood. This problem becomes even more urgent when, for example, the primary sources are the private notes of a collector who recorded how much he had paid for a book, or when two different currencies in place or in time have the same name. This aspect is also crucial in comparing different places and markets. Was the price expressed in money of account or in coined money? In domestic or foreign currency? Is it possible to relate two prices expressed in different currencies? The purpose of this paper is therefore to explore in greater depth some of the economic-monetary aspects of Renaissance Europe in order to help clarify any doubts or misreadings by building a reliable picture of the various types of currency used in Europe between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This paper presents a summary of the conceptual framework within which a study of book prices should take place and the research issues, as well as the methodological problems, which need to be addressed. Although the nature of books as semiindustrial goods puts them in a different class of product as seen from the point of view of a pre-industrial economy, the broad categories of supply and demand have been used to identify a series of factors giving rise to specific research questions which need input from various aspects of economic historical analysis. The history of the book is placed in relation to some classic topics of economic history, in an attempt to put the book trade and the prices of books in the context of a broader historiographical debate. Among available sources for early modern book prices, the inventory of the book shop of Bernardo Giunti (Department of Special Collections, UCLA, Collection 170/622) is evidence of the thriving book market in Venice of the period. The almost 12,000 entries included in the list of books for sale reflect the purposes and aims of the firm. The structure of this document is somewhat complex as it was in continual use for more than twenty years. Over this period of time, it appears to have become not merely a catalogue or finding-list of books for the use of the firm's clerks, but also an important tool for the management of the shop and its stock. Almost every title is priced, making this inventory one of the most extensive and significant sources for the study of book prices in early modern Europe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is a think-piece, exploring the potential for developing inter-operable systems or unitary databases for collecting, storing, analysing, and cross-referencing various historical bibliometric data. It particularly focuses on the conceptual development, use, and benefits of such a database or databases in library history. The author surveys a range of leading digital library history and book history projects, establishing their uses and commonalities, before exploring how far the tools for developing a common database system are already being developed out of his 'French Book Trade in Enlightenment Europe' (FBTEE) project by a team centred on the University of Western Sydney. In the process he also outlines much of the current work being done in library history by members of an international research network devoted to community libraries, and lays out a vision and hypothetical case study of how, and with what results, this work could be applied. Eighteenth-century European publications focused on book history followed the contemporaneous standards in science and scientific literature, but showed also certain characteristics arising from the state of bibliology itself. Bibliology at that time -- an in statu nascendi discipline-gained its scientific status through historical research. Fairly voluminous European literature on the history of book encompassed a broad spectrum of issues and facts, including the history of writing, manuscripts, printing, bookselling, and libraries. The typological approach to this legacy allows identifying its specific features, evolutionary tendencies, strengths and weaknesses of the early book historiography. In the presentation, various types of 18th-century publications are shown, distinguished by writing and editorial characteristics, form, content, objectives and targets. These include individual and multi-authored works; monographs and syntheses; original writings, compilations and adaptations; publications in different literary forms, such as letters and travelogues (e.g., library travels, Germ. Bibliotheks-reisen; teaching materials (academic textbooks, handbooks); promotional texts; reference works (encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, catalogues); and source collections. This article aims to introduce research on book and library history in the Nordic and Baltic countries during the last ten to fifteen years. The role of historical subjects in library and information science (LIS) curricula has diminished in all curricula in Europe. As a result, a threat to the continuity of academic research can be observed. The books and articles on book and library history published in the Nordic and Baltic countries are difficult to access for the international community of researchers, as a majority of them have been published only in local languages. This article presents the main achievements in the history of the book, printing, publishing and the book trade, and library history. The publications presented in the article reflect the personal choice of the author. In 2006 Nordic and Baltic researchers joined the scholarly network HIBOLIRE (History of Books, Libraries and Reading). The activities of the network are financed by the Nordforsk Foundation. The aim of the network is to enhance collaboration between individual researchers and their home institutions, as well as to intensify doctoral studies and contacts between doctoral students.
