This article reports that the European market for automotive ICs is poised to grow 23 percent to US$4.5 billion ($5.8 billion) this year, representing 40 percent of the US$11.5 billion worldwide automotive IC market. According to analysts IC Insights Inc., Europe became the world's largest market for automotive ICs in 1997 and has maintained that position each year since then. The European automotive market for microcontrollers is significantly greater than other regions. This year's market for these devices will reach US$1.5 billion, or 39 percent of the overall European automotive IC market.
