The lack of accessibility to the information associated with European built heritage is a significant factor of exclusion that precludes many European citizens from appropriating a shared cultural heritage. Nowadays, three-dimensional scanning, modelling, and rendering technologies provide many highly effective tools to virtually access the available digital heritage of many European buildings in different historical periods through images, videos, texts, libraries, or specific databases of information associated with historical-scientific knowledge. However, several factors, such as the availability of human, economic, and technical resources, the heterogeneity of the standards and the lack of regulations, still hinder the possibility of translating data into usable content for a wider audience and the chances of creating collaboration between professional experts and scholars. Considering that, the paper focuses on defining the User Experience (UX) of INCEPTION's web platform, a European-funded multidisciplinary research project that has adopted new web technologies to develop open-source three-dimensional models of cultural heritage buildings for digital architectural conservation. The paper evaluates the importance of adopting a User-Centred Design (UCD) approach and involving stakeholders and end-users throughout the design development process, as they actively contributed to fostering more accessibility and inclusiveness for the final INCEPTION's web configuration. Over the years, the funding of scientific projects has been the responsibility of traditional research funding institutions, such as government programmes or mainstream trusts. However, there are areas and topics of research which, for a variety of reasons, remain underfunded by traditional programmes. Crowdfunding has provided an alternative means of providing financial support to researchers and projects which ordinarily are not of interest to government funding agencies and other major funders of research. This paper explores the user needs of a nascent crowdfunding channel for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) research in Europe. The goal of the research was to understand and formalise a set of users' needs that could help in setting up this nascent crowdfunding solution. The users are the SSH researchers who seek financial support on scientific projects and the funders who are motivated to invest in a project. We utilised a mixed method of research design to collect both qualitative and quantitative data about the users and their needs. This included codesigning work and a Europe-wide questionnaire. The outcome of this work was formalised in a set of practical recommendations for the new crowdfunding channel, which might have a broader application for the design of crowdfunding solutions. This research is part of a large European research project, focused on building a discovery platform for SSH, called GoTriple, of which the new crowdfunding channel is one of the services. The paper concerns the notion of information technology (IT) reliability in an organization and User Experience as one of the factors which may potentially increase this reliability through a role of users (who should willingly use IT to perform tasks it is designed to support). Frequency of IT use (also in the context of economic advancement as a comparison between central Europe and North America) and job characteristics, such as task complexity, structuration and uniqueness are discussed as potential moderators strengthening that relation. The empirical research was performed among 550 organizations operating in Poland and USA in order to verify whether User Experience might be the factor positively influencing IT reliability in an organization and whether identified job characteristics indeed are strengthening that influence. The obtained results confirmed, among others, that the more complex and less routine are the tasks performed by the employee, the more significant is the influence of IT User Experience on IT reliability. This paper presents a qualitative investigation on user reactions, opinions, and sentiments about a TV-based technological solution developed within the EasyReach Project of the EU Ambient Assisted Living Joint Program to promote social interaction of less educated elderly people, that is, those individuals who, because of poor scholarization, low income, and, possibly, linguistic barriers, still find it difficult to use computers in order to improve their socialization. Experimental data were collected by extensive trials involving 40 real-end users. A methodology called “scenario engagement” was applied to get participants engaged in a live demonstration with the mediation of a facilitator who assisted elderly people to interact with the system. Results point out that the system can be effectively employed to foster social interaction, particularly when it is introduced in a collective use environment (e.g., Senior Center). Although the focus of the investigation was on information and communication technology-enabled social environments, the end users themselves strongly suggested to include in future system releases extra functions considered as essential opportunities for their potential digital lives: that is, medical or health services and bridges toward public administration. Purpose: To present the AsTeRICS construction set, and examine different combinations of sensors installed in the platform and how users interact with them. Method: Nearly 50 participants from Austria, Poland and Spain were included in the study. They had a heterogeneous range of diagnoses, but as a common feature all of them experienced motor limitations in their upper limbs. The study included a 1 h session with each participant where the user interacted with a personalized combination of sensors, based on a previous assessment on their motor capabilities performed by healthcare professionals. The sensors worked as substitutes for a standard QWERTY keyboard and a standard mouse. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to obtain participants' opinions. All collected data were analyzed based on the qualitative methodology. Results: The findings illustrated that AsTeRICS is a flexible platform whose sensors can adapt to different degrees of users' motor capabilities, thus facilitating in most cases the interaction of the participants with a common computer. Conclusion: AsTeRICS platform can improve the interaction between people with mobility limitations and computers. It can provide access to new technologies and become a promising tool that can be integrated in physical rehabilitation programs for people with motor disabilities in their upper limbs. Background : This user experience study evaluated the suitability of single-use versus multi-dose follitropin alfa pen injectors for self-administration by women undergoing fertility treatment. Methods : Twenty-four fertility patients and 19 specialist nurses were recruited in four European countries to assess their use of Bemfola (a single-use pen), Gonal-f®, and Ovaleap® (multi-use pens). Participants completed usability tests in which their performance in assembling and administering doses of each pen was assessed against defined critical steps for ensuring safe and correct administration. Results : Critical error rates among nurses were 4%, 40%, and 49% for Bemfola®, Ovaleap®, and Gonal-f®, respectively; and among patients were 7%, 16%, and 38%. The most frequently reported critical errors occurred with the multi-use pens and were incorrect/lack of priming and failure to check the dose window prior to setting a new dose. The need to 'top up' doses from a new pen or cartridge when a pen contained insufficient dose also caused errors. The single-use pens did not cause these errors. Overall, 63% of nurses and 67% of patients had most confidence in Bemfola® for correct dosing and self-administration. Conclusions : Single-use pens require fewer preparation and administration steps than multi-use pens and are associated with fewer critical handling errors.

Objective: The main objective of this user experience testing study was to evaluate the impact of human factors on the use of a disposable pen containing follitropin alfa by patients and nurses with special focus on the convenience, safety and ease of use, in different types of stimulation protocols., Methods: Infertile women trying to conceive, and specialist nurses were recruited across 6 European countries. In total 18 patients and 19 nurses took part in the testing, which included both nurse-patient pairings and in-depth interviews. A standardized list of expected and pre-defined critical steps according to the Instructions for Use (IFU), was used to assess the correct handling of the pen., Results: During the user experience testing, no critical errors, related to the use of the pen, which could affect the success of the injection process were identified. In general, both nurses and patients found the pen very easy to learn, use and would be confident using the pen for self-injection. Nurses also found the pen very easy to train the patients., Conclusions: The study provides valuable information on the pen from both patient and nurse perspectives in different simulated scenarios reflecting standard practice.
