Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the exegetical initials of codex Parisinus graecus 41. The objective of this study is to introduce to the scholarly community a practically unknown illustrated Byzantine psalter. It focuses on the meaning and function of some of its illustrated initials, with particular attention to historical letters that work as visual comments to the psalms they introduce. According to laconic description of Henry Omont, codex graecus 41 is datable to the twelfth century, comprises 190 folios with psalms, odes and homilies, and is illuminated.
