Abstract

A recent study conducted at Fujian Normal University in China has explored the use of reduced graphene oxide/iron nanoparticles (rGO/FeNPs) to activate peroxydisulfate (PDS) for the removal of 17 beta-estradiol (beta E2) and estriol (E3). The study found that the rGO/FeNPs-PDS system was able to remove 83.6% of beta E2 and 62.5% of E3 within 240 minutes. The research also identified the reactive species involved in the degradation process and proposed degradation pathways for beta E2 and E3. This study provides new insights into the biosynthesis of rGO/FeNPs for the oxidation of emerging contaminants. [Extracted from the article]
