Background: Reference values are necessary in clinical practice in order to correctly evaluate testicular volume and detect disorders.Objectives: The objective of this prospective cross-sectional study was to evaluate reference values for testicular volume dependent on age, height, and weight in boys aged 0-18 years.Material and Methods: During their inpatient stay, the testes of 174 boys, who were free of disease or therapy that might influence testicular development, were examined by sonography. High resolution ultrasound transducers ranging from 7.5-14 MHz were used for evaluation. The testicular volume was calculated by the ellipsoid formula: length • width • height • (π/6).Results: The subject age ranged from 0-18 years (average 7.1 ± 5.3 years). At the age of 0-8 years, the left testicular volume (1.2 ml) was less than the right testicular volume (1.3 ml). At the age of 13 years, the testicular volume of all subjects was over 3 ml. Left testicular volume of boys aged 16.5-18 years ranged from 7 to 22 ml and the right testicular volume ranged from 6 to 22 ml.Conclusion: Reference value tables of testicular volume dependent on age, and for the first time dependent on weight and height in boys aged from 0-18 years were compiled. Abstract: Concentrations of tributyltin (TBT) and its breakdown products, dibutyltin (DBT) and monobutyltin (MTB), were measured in tissues of male turbot Scophthalmus maximus from the Gulf of Gdańsk (GDA) and the Pomeranian Bay (POM) in the southern Baltic Sea. The fish (n =206) were collected during the spawning seasons of 2008–2009. All specimens were at the same maturity stage and in full breeding condition. The ripe testes of the turbot appeared to be a target tissue for TBT accumulation. We report that TBT is extensively eliminated at the specific whole-body level and that the males from TBT-contaminated location (GDA) reach this specific level at 23–24cm in total length. Fertility preservation in trans women is a crucial but thus far neglected component in the gender confirming treatment in Germany. It is difficult for trans women to access reproductive health care because centers offering treatment, psychological guidance, gender confirming surgery, as well as reproductive health services are scarce in Germany. Legal, social, or financial issues as well as individual patient comorbidities prevent trans women from receiving appropriate counselling. This review provides an overview on options of fertility preservation in trans women. We consider recent publications on testicular regression at the time of gender confirming surgery demonstrating presence of sperm or at least spermatogonia in the majority of tissues. This may open options for cryopreservation of sperm or testicular stem cells in trans women even at the final stage of transition. Hence, standardized urological procedures (i.e., sperm cryopreservation after masturbation or sperm extraction from the testicular tissue) and experimental approaches (cryopreservation of testicular tissue with undifferentiated spermatogonia) can be offered best at the initiation but also during the gender confirming process. However, counselling early in the gender confirming process increases the chances of fertility preservation because gender confirming hormone therapy has an impact on spermatogenesis.
